Pelosi: Bush is bragging about failed Social Security privatization efforts because he failed elsewhere.

Last week, President Bush told the Weekly Standard’s Fred Barnes that his unsuccessful push to privatize Social Security was his biggest domestic policy achievement. In an interview with PBS’s Jim Lehrer last night, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) knocked Bush for the claim, saying it was “curious” that Bush would cite something that was not only “bad policy,” but “also that he did not succeed with.” Pelosi then suggested that Bush may have cited it because he had failed in so many other areas:

PELOSI: I think it’s a presidency of missed opportunities. He took us to a war without end. I think that the Bush presidency did great harm to America with this war, with the enormous budget deficits, the challenges to the Constitution of the United States, the financial crisis that we are in.

Maybe that’s why that was all the president could point to, his attempt to privatize Social Security. But in this downturn in the financial — the stock market, thank God we won that fight.

It’s a lot easier to kick him on his way out, then when he was actually doing the things you’re cricizing him for, isn’t it, Nancy?

  2. JBaddo says:

Pelosi has to be the most vilest person on earth. Here is a political hack who today grovelled and called Nazi Ehud Olmert to offer support in continuing to slaughter innocent Palestinian babies. This b**ch does not serve the country’s interests and is an accessory to a war crime along with her spineless colleagues.

Are there no values or morals left in America’s politicians ?

  3. stateofthedivision says:

“Great harm to America” and not impeached? Thanks, Nancy.

  4. Hoodathunk says:

Ahem, Madam Speaker, and just whose job was it to be the check and balance?

  5. grover nerdkissed says:

…& yet she never lifted a finger to stop him.

  6. Daddy-O says:

There are only three taint-free actions taken by George W. Bush as President that I can think of off the top of my head:

    1. He chose to extend unemployment benefits in December of 2002, for another six months. Why? Who knows? He’s never done it before or since, but it WAS in the dawning hours of the worst decision ever made by an American president–the Iraq Invasion. Maybe he felt guilty, and decided to show the peasants a bit of financial mercy–as he was readying us for blood and debt.

    2. He declared the ocean zone north and west of Hawaii, underwater, to be free of prospecting, drilling, mining, etc. Of course, the ocean bed is incredibly deep right there, making such activities too expensive anyway.

    3. He signed a bill granting gay couples certain rights as federal employees.

I may have the exact details wrong, but EVERYTHING ELSE HE HAS DONE has had corporate, military or crony fingerprints all over it.

    Worst President EVER.

  7. old_hack says:

you know who else would like to privatize social security? Ron Paul

  8. Daddy-O says:

Well…you guys are certainly right. Pelosi and Reid have been HUGE disappointments. They played some of the dumbest politics I’ve ever seen, instead of playing as statesman and stateswoman.

Still, the real point of this article, Pelosi is right: Bush can only point to his FAILURES. He has nothing else.

I’m so old, I remember watching at least two of Clinton’s State of the Union speeches, and some excerpts of a few others. Those speeches, beginning with the first, were an UNRELIEVED PARADE of met or exceeded goals for the government and the country. Laundry lists of ACCOMPLISHMENTS. Financial, political, foreign policy, business, poverty, etc. And then Bill would tell us what he would be addressing in the next year.

Bill Clinton was far from perfect. But he DELIVERED. There really isn’t much else I would want from my President…

  9. stewarjt says:

Don’t take too much credit for derailing privatization, Nan. If it were up to Harry “Jellyfish” Reid a lot of seniors would be eating paste right now instead of enjoying the guaranteed retirement income Social Security provides.

  10. Hoodathunk says:

I had to read this one again and I have come to the same conclusion. WTF are these clowns thinking? The Speaker of the House just came out and admitted that she and Congress allowed the Administration to get away with things that have driven the country to the brink of collapse. Sort of like Cheney admitting to torture. Does she think she gets to say, oops, silly me, and we’ll all forget about it?

  11. Carlos says:

Don’t thank God, Nancy, for saving Social Security.

The thanks go to you, and especially Harry Reid, and AARP and the labor unions, and the individual citizens who fought Bush and the Republicans, and won. The most important victory in Bush’s administration.

  12. Tired Of Fighting says:

And yet you stood by and watched him do it and didnt do a damn thing about it. In a couple of years when there’s a new Speaker of the House, may he or she charge you, Hoyer, Feinstein, etc…as accessories in the Bush indictment.

Dont try to get tough now with Obama when for 8 years you sat like a frightened little child in the house. I wish you were in the U.S. Army when I was in and you all of you were my Soldiers (good thing this is hypothetical, I would have went AWOL myself lol), I would have given all of you a relief of cause NCOER, and sent you on your way. You (Mrs. Pelosi) have been derelict in your duties since you took the reins of the house. YOU HAVE FAILED.

We now know why “Impeachment was off the table” because you ( and some of the other Dems, Feinstein, Rockefeller, Harman) were/are complicit in the Bush crimes, some even gained monetarily. So Madame you need to be quiet, your credibility is nil among those of us who are keeping score.

Pass the gavel to Mr. Dennis Kucinich. NOW!!!

With representation like this who needs it.

Congratulations, you win the frothing-at-the-mouth hyperbole award of the day! Sure, we’re all disappointed in her, but that’s so over the top one just has to sit back and admire it. Did you inject yourself with pure adrenaline before typing that out?

I must say, she does have an amazing capacity to sound completely gracious while slamming the hell out of someone. She’s pretty much saying the same thing we all said in the last thread about this, except she doesn’t sound like she’s saying what we said, ‘cuz we ain’t so nice ’round these parts. But she is.

  15. JBaddo says:

    #15 ElBruce:

Twit. You just demonstrated your endorsement of state terrorism. I hope you dont have kids and if you do give them hug because, well they are fair game. Ask Nazi Pelosi why.

  16. Fred says:

Well at least now congress’s approval rating will go up now that so many repubs have been sent home.

They have been dragging down congressional approval figures long enough.

  17. pdennany says:

Pelosi is a huge dissappointment as well. Not only has she insisted upon ignoring the Bush/Cheney crimes of War/crimes against humanity and refused to uphold her constitutional duties that she swore too, but was, according to Cheney, regularly briefed on the on-going crimes being committed in torturing prisoners. Pelosi, and other Democrat leaders kept agreed in torture of the prisoners! With that in mind, I no who can blame her for not wanting to impeach the tyranny of Bush and Cheney. She also is involved in some of their crimes. Until the US People make a stand, there will be more 9-11s and more resulting wars, when the main enemy is our very leaders! No AlQaeda or bin Laden did 9-11. It could only have happened with our own government active particapation. The existing evidence does prove that fact.

  18. krystalviews says:

    Talk about missed opportunities !!!
Right there – she had the chance to point out 5 or 6 of the most egregious human rights violations inflicted upon all of humanity by the Criminal Administration Of The Century !

I wish someone would mail Pelosi adn Reid some Cojones

  19. Max-1 says:

    .

    Ummm…

    Dear Nacy Pelosi,
    Who failed whom?

  20. Hoodathunk says:

Ok, expecting people like Bush or Cheney to feel any kind of remorse or responsibility for their arrogance is foolish. But this person is supposed to be the Top Dem in Congress and 3rd in line for the throne. This is a fine continuation of her qualifications for the job.

If she had an ounce of self respect she’d apologize and step down.

  21. A Patriot Acting says:

    Pelosi’s Oath of Office:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

    Pelosi’s comments to Jim Lehrer:

“He took us to a war without end. I think that the Bush presidency did great harm to America with this war, with the enormous budget deficits, the challenges to the Constitution of the United States, the financial crisis that we are in.”

    Previously on TP:

“You don’t have to be guilty of committing a crime to be impeached. You just have to be accused of abusing your power or unable or unfit to serve.”

So Nancy, care to explain why you were complicit in abetting a criminal and his vice-criminal for two years and did NOTHING???

Because allegiances behind closed doors outweigh Oaths of Office…? just guessing.

  24. tarazan says:

I was unhappy to see her chosen again as the Speaker Of the House.
    Where is the change…?!!
Democrats need another person to lead them before Republicans can make a come back under Pelosi’s leadership in the House and Reid’s in the Senate.

  25. Buckie Boy says:

And yet Pelosi let him continue to harm our country because she and other dems were complicate in his crimes.

She did not want her part of this corrupt government being exposed.

    Thanks for nothing Speaker.

  26. JBaddo says:

Pelosi and her colleagues were overwhelmingly supported and gained a majority in the mid-term elections in 2006. However, they chose to ignore the will of the people by not following the mandate in that election of ending the Iraq war and bringing our troops home.

Its bad enough for the Bush regime to ignore the will of the people but for the opposition to do it, well, it tell’s you democracy in America is in serious trouble.

Dear Santa, an early wish list:
1)a President with the chods to tell his AG to go after our home grown war criminals and profiteers. And when he issues the indictments, tell him to look on both sides of the fence. Not doing your job is generally considered complicity.

It shouldn’t be too hard considering how many of them are bragging on national TV.

  30. Max-1 says:

    And remember,
Nancy’s biggest success was raising minimum wage, which most States have already exceeded the Federal Government on this one.

    Dear Nancy,
    Where are the troops?

There is an excellent interview with Chalmers Johnson on YouTube!!! Chek it out!!!
It is an old interview, long before the last election, however, every issue he touches is relevant to understand what is happening with the current eocnony, wars, oil, and the Congress of the USA and its constitution! Worthed having a look! Cheers!

  33. freeman says:

    Nancy ,
you are responsible for allowing the Bush administration to trample the constitution , spy without warrants or oversight on our citizenry, kidnap , torture , usurp the power of the legislative branch of the American government through the use of signing statements , set up military tribunals ( kangaroo court )collect massive information in their worlds largest data base on innocent American citizens in flagrant violation of their basic rights ,run the worlds economy into the ground and continue a war which has destroyed our international reputation and killed so many men women and children whose sole crime was to be sitting on the wrong piece of real estate.
You vowed to protect the constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic and were elected to end the war . Your failures are overwhelming , you should be ashamed !

  36. drew3rd says:

Pelosi acts as though she were an innocent bystander during all of this. Bush spent us into oblivion and she and Reid went along for the ride. Now her only answer is to raise taxes. I’m doing with less, your doing with less, but Washington gets to take more money for spending? I’m not sure Washington deserves to receive another dime in taxpayer increases until they figure out how to stretch a dollar like the rest of us.

  37. Game of Life says:

    Awwwhhh shadup pelosi.

Policy shouldn’t be about death and destruction. chimpy and his gang should pay but noooooo you, yourself, madam pelosi, took impeachment off the table. Thus you made chimpy’s wrongs a right.

So please shut up and impeach the murderers, cheats and liars set forth in the constitution.

pelosi shouldn’t brag like she’s for the people.

  38. FunMe says:

    Is Pelosi a puppet?

She talks and spills out her yada, yada, yada yet she does NOTHING about it.

With her impeachment is off the table, Pelosi has proven herself to be a political SKANK of the highest order.

    She needs to STFU!

And WHY was she reelected to “leader” – get rid of her!

A person can not impeach the president when there has been no crimes committed. Even Nazi Pelosi knows this. I do agree that she is the biggest failure ever to be leader of the House. I also do not look for the congress’s approval rating to go up in the next 2 years with her in office.
