President Bush has repeatedly insisted that his think tank, or “Freedom Institute,” “won’t be used to promote a whitewashed perspective on his presidency.” Original plan, in fact, had his library and Freedom Institute as two separate buildings at Southern Methodist University. However, today the Dallas Morning News reports that they will actually be housed in the same building:
But in a White House interview this week, Laura Bush said the library design committee she chairs has moved away from its original plan.
She said the lone building will probably have separate wings and design elements to make the functions “distinct from each other.” [...]
“It will be cool-looking,” President Bush said.
This announcement reinforces concerns that the Freedom Institute will “celebrate” Bush, rather than promote “dispassionate inquiry.”
(ThinkProgress has been keeping a close eye on developments with the Bush library, and we will continue to do so. Read our related posts here.)
“It will be cool-looking,” President Bush said.
Yeah, almost as cool as him doing that soft shoe while waiting for John McCain.

January 10th, 2009 at 1:07 pmI prefer my symbolism with a dose of reality and in this case, having the various areas of Bushwa related revisionism and catapultation housed under one roof is reality I can believe in.
Why sprinkle lime on the whole thing? Let it stink. There’s rotting history in there. There’s rotten ideas in there. Call a farce a farce and maybe save a little on air condidtioning.
They could put Bush related crap in 5 or 10 buildings and it wouldn’t change a thing. It’s Bush folks. It’s always going to be Bullshit.

Dems signal CIA interrogators not held responsible
WASHINGTON – As President-elect Barack Obama assures intelligence officials that his complaints are with the Bush administration, not them, there are growing hints from Democratic Senate allies that spy agency veterans will not be prosecuted for past harsh interrogation and detainee policies.
Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein told The Associated Press in an interview this week that there is a clear distinction between those who made the policies and those who carried them out.

The Obama spokesperson was responding to an article in Britain’s Guardian daily on Friday, which asserted that three people with knowledge of discussions held in the Obama camp said that while the president-elect will not approve direct diplomatic negotiations with Hamas early on, his advisers are urging him to initiate low-level or clandestine approaches, in light of the growing recognition in Washington that ostracizing the terror group is counter-productive policy.

Our elected officials go there and spill the beans about what’s coming. Rep. Howard Berman did it on December 18th. Tony Blair, Quartet envoy, also has slightly loose lips. His record shows America supported the Israeli incursion, both the Bush & Obama administrations.

January 10th, 2009 at 2:45 pmPersonally, I have no problem with posts about relevant topics which don’t necessarily match the thread. But…
I find it ridiculous to make generalizations about Obama’s actions, re: national security issues, before he’s sworn in. Even if Bushco is operating in good faith and providing Obama’s administration with needed information (I think it far more likely that Obama’s team will find every hard drive wiped clean and piles of ash in place of valuable documents.) There is information to which he and future members of the administration has no access until he’s inaugurated.
As for the constant calls for Obama to announce policy on issues he has yet to face? That would be ridiculous and stupid in the extreme. Our county’s pitiful state is largely do to ideologues who make decisions independent of real-time information. Every time I hear Obama, or a future member of his Administration, say “I’m not going to comment until I’ve had time to study the situation” I feel a bit better about the future of our society.
If you wanted a President who makes decisions despite a lack of information? You should have voted for Flippy McSpin.

January 10th, 2009 at 3:45 pmGeorge Bush’s Very Successful Presidency
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/1/9/13570/31873/319/682106
People refer to Bush as a failed president. Indeed, that is probably how he will go down in history. But to be accurate, we must separate our failure, and that of our country’s, from those of the Bush administration, those who enabled him, and those whose interest he serves.
In eight years, almost completely unimpeded by Democrats, and in many cases, he couldn’t have done it without them, Bush dramatically changed this country to the benefit of the parasite class. From gutting environmental policy, to ridiculous tax cuts, to numerous bills that only benefited the monied interests, Bush helped corporate America make more profit than in human history. And I’m not even including the oil, gas, and coal industry. From bankruptcy reform, the energy bill, to the the medicare bill, Bush pushed through major legislation that eliminated oversight, hurt consumers, and weakened our democracy. Then, throw in two Supremes who love corporate power and God, and all I can say is, good job George.
Probably his greatest success, however, was letting 911 happen. I don’t know how they did it, but, despite a plethora of warnings, they actually managed to let 4 planes get hijacked at once, and fly unimpeded into three major sites including the World Trade Towers. Excellent.
From that single act, Bush was able to conquer two countries, seize about 45 trillion dollars in Iraqi oil, depending on the ppb this week, and turn the country into a war mongering, war profiteering, national security police state. Oh Mr Bush, you will always be VIP at the Petroleum Club.
Yes, Bush’s base has made trillions of dollars from his actions and policies. Kudos. A very successful presidency indeed.

These last eight years have meant so much to me it is with great pleasure to tell you the George W Bush Presidential Library is now in the planning stages and accepting donations.
The Library will include:

*The Economy Room, which is in the toilet.
*The Iraq War Room. (After you complete your first visit, they make you to go back for a second, third, fourth, and sometimes fifth visit.)

*The Decider Room, complete with dart board, magic 8-ball, Ouija board, dice, coins and straws.
*There will be an electron microscope so you can view the President’s accomplishments.
The library will also include many famous Quotes by George W. Bush:
‘The vast majority of our imports come from outside the country.’
‘If we don’t succeed, we run the risk of failure.’
‘Republicans understand the importance of bondage between a mother and child.’
‘No senior citizen should ever have to choose between prescription drugs and medicine.’
‘I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and democracy – but that could change.’
‘One word sums up probably the responsibility of any Governor, and that one word is ‘to be prepared’.’
‘Verbosity leads to unclear, inarticulate things.’
‘I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future.’
‘The future will be better tomorrow.’
‘We’re going to have the best educated American people in the
world.’
‘One of the great things about books is sometimes there are some fantastic pictures.’ (during an education photo-op)
‘Illegitimacy is something we should talk about in terms of not having it.’
‘We are ready for any unforeseen event that may or may not occur.’
‘It isn’t pollution that’s harming the environment. It’s the
impurities in our air and water that are doing it.’
‘I stand by all the misstatements that I’ve made.’…George W. Bush to Sam Donaldson

January 10th, 2009 at 4:28 pmHey publicrecord,
The link you give, states that Deadeye Dickie the DICK Cheeney said:
““I can’t — you know, I can’t speak for everybody in the administration, but my view would be that the people who carried out that program — intelligence surveillance program, the enhanced interrogation program, with respect to al Qaeda captives — in fact were authorized to do what they did, and we had the legal opinions that — and in effect said what was appropriate and what wasn’t,” Cheney said. “And I believe they followed those legal opinions and I don’t have any reason to believe that they did anything wrong or inappropriate.”
Which is beautiful in its tapestry of how to stitch together one bullshit idea after another to think that you have something to give you warmth and comfort.
John Yoo stitched together the POOREST excuse of a rationale of their torture and clandestine operations. Go back to the Congressional investigations and you will see that the ONLY thing Yoo actually used to forward the notion that what they wanted to embark upon, was an old Nixon era Whitehouse legal OPINION. Yes, people, that is ALL John YOO used to bring down the Geneva Conventions and the Fourth Amendment. ANd now this TRAITOR CHENEY says “in fact were authorized to do what they did, and we had the legal opinions that — and in effect said what was appropriate and what wasn’t”
YOu have to take him at his word. They had LEGAL OPINIONS BIG FCUKING DEAL, opinions are NOT LAWS.
TO THE GUILLOTINE with you CHENEY.

January 10th, 2009 at 7:18 pmTwo buildings, now one, $500 million down to $300 million, he’s raised a total of 3 million so far…
January 10th, 2009 at 7:48 pmMy guess is he’ll end up with an old Bookmobile.
He should be able to pick up John McCain’s campaign bus pretty cheap, take it to Earl Scheib…
January 10th, 2009 at 8:04 pmI’ve seen the preliminary blueprints, the Library/Freedom Institute complex consists of a shed full of guns bolted to a large outhouse containing a copy of The Pet Goat (to read while you ‘do your business’) and a copy of The Constitution (to wipe with, once you’re done).

THANKS W!
January 10th, 2009 at 8:24 pmIt’s the Dumb & Dumber building!
January 10th, 2009 at 10:43 pmWe are very much puzzled here in Dallas as to why one would need an entire building for a copy of “My Pet Goat”. This was the one book Dubbya apparently has ever read.

We can only hope and considering how badly the economy is doing I wouldn’t be shocked if donators withdrew their money till W. had less than 1 million.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:21 amFor your review : just prima fascia:
1: Bush Freedom Institute
2: Bush Library
3: Combining the two in one building.
January 11th, 2009 at 4:28 pmThe “freedom insitute” could be like one of those “educational” Disney rides, and have animatronic orange-jumpsuited Arabs chained to the walls, others being attacked by dogs, etc.
