White House press corps sends off Bush with awkward goodbye.

At the conclusion of President Bush’s final White House press conference earlier this morning, he addressed reporters, telling them: “It has been an honor to work with you. … I wish you all the very best.” And with that, Bush concluded the briefing and walked off the podium, leaving the press corps unsure of how to react. Some hesitated to stand, while most stayed seated. One said “thank you Mr. President,” and a small number offered half-hearted applause. Watch it:

Awww, couldn’t someone have thrown a shoe at him?

Helen Thomas, I’m very disappointed in you.

  2. Hoodathunk says:

Don’t you just hate those smarmy, long winded good byes?

  3. LibertyLover says:

I think that wild applause for his exit would have been the appropriate response. No more mangled press conferences where nothing is actually conveyed.

  4. Buckie Boy says:

It’s the Press that gave this War Criminal a pass for 8 years, they could have lined up for one last ‘Kiss Bush’s As$’.

Press, ha, what a joke that is, stenographers is more like it.

  5. pat of wheaton says:

Why did the reporter keep hitting himself in the head with a hammer?
Answer: Because it felt so good when he stopped

  6. sectionop92 says:

How long until Billo, Glenn Beck and Rush are all calling for the reporters that were unkind to the Dummy in Chief to be tortured for not giving the idiot a Stalin-like ovation?

  7. ElBruce says:

Out with a whimper… yeah, that’s Bush all over.

Couldn’t TMZ get anyone in there to play “Nah, Nah, Nah, Nah…Hey, Hey, Hey…Goodbye!”?

  9. Shayne says:

The pleasure was all yours I’m sure you ring tailed doofus.

  10. Curlew says:

A more appropriate “goodbye” would have been for everyone to kick him solidly in the Cheney and then everyone say “see you in The Hague, Chimpy.”

    Priceless

  11. McWars says:

Goodbye? You barely said hello. You are the president with the fewest press conferences.

I wonder what he will enjoy for his last meal? Timothy McVeigh had two pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream, if that’s any help.

Off to hell to you go, spoiled child. I hope to repeat that through January 20th, and if justice pulls through, the conviction and sentencing.

  15. 5th Estate says:

After all the sucking up they did, all they get is “it’s been nice knowin’ ya?

Rest assured the WH Press corp will NOT make that mistake again!

Starting with Obama on January 20 2009 they will do everything they can to question the president on every issue in any way possible, no matter how stupid or shallow the question might be, just to show everyone that they are not to be trifled with!

Bush’s 8 year legacy has already been consigned to the first three weeks of January never to be mentioned again. From now on, it will all be Obama’s fault–and maybe then the dirty filthy blogosphere will stop being so mean to the professionals of the 4th Estate.

This White House press corp is a joke. The same press corp that spent eight years not asking a thing. Eight years nodding their heads like bobble dogs in the back of a car. Allowing to go unchallenged everything the President said. The only reporter that pushed for the truth when the others stayed silent was Helen Thomas.

This press corp lost the right to call themselves either reporters or journalists. The White House press corp is a soft billet. And like the press that goes with the President on his plane, they did not want to do anything to lose their easy job. So they did nothing. They were intimidated into silence. Other then Helen Thomas which ended up not being called on because of her questions, they were afraid.

They enabled this President. That embarrassed scattered applause was for themselves. Any embarrassment belonged to them. Ineffectual and incompetent the lot of them.

  17. sectionop92 says:

Faux News kiss Dumbya’s shoes?! Oh no! We’re talking about a full shine job…front and back with those boys and girls on their real Executive Producer.

Take a peak at those poll numbers. It seems it isn’t just the press…

  23. Mathazar says:

An awkward farewell? Gee, I wonder why. Half of them probably pity

  24. JaneaneTheAcerbicGoblin says:

I’m surprised. Considering the MSM has been kissing George’s ass for the lst 8 years, I’d thought they would give him a standing ovation and start crying for their soon to be departed “king”.

  25. Mathazar says:

An awkward farewell? Gee, I wonder why. Half of them probably
pity the b*stard and the others breathed a sigh of relief.

Helen Thomas would top my list for medal of freedom, if it hadn’t
been so devauled by Reagan and W.

  26. JaneaneTheAcerbicGoblin says:

When the new President takes the oath of office in 8 days, the press corps will go into attack mode from day one.

  27. Ape-Man says:

Wow, every word a lie, right up to the bitter end.

I also hear he refuses to feel sorry for himself just because bad things happened on his watch.

  28. MapleStreet says:

As 1. Hussein Toasterhead seems to imply, I would rather everyone stood to their feet and threw their shoes – they could tell Bush it is like in Anapolis where everyone throws their hats in the air at graduation.

I’m not even sure the standing up wasn’t just people standing up fast to get out of the room. The applause wasn’t even half hearted – sounded like 1 person.

The worst part is that if someone turns in even a bad performance, if one person stands up and applauds, everyone else is goaded into a standing ovation just so they don’t appear impolite.

What a startling piece of footage! The press doesn’t like President Bush?? What a shocker!

Why would they still like him? They made him into a god after 9/11. They faithfully regurgitated his lies about WMD to support his invasion of Iraq. They covered up his crimes of wiretapping anf torture until he admitted those crimes himself. In all, not only did the press give Bush a free pass for 5 years, they were active accomplices in his criminal activities.

What did they get for abandoning their journalistic principles to become co-conspirators with the Bush administration? Nothing but continued derision from the right and appropriate indignation from the left.

The press corps hitched their wagon to the Bush administration, and the whole thing blew up in their faces. Now, even they realize their mistake.

  30. ctalk says:

Imagine when this monster took office there were 1.2 million more Iraqis living out their lives. Truth be told Clinton did as much damage with his various war crimes. This is beyond simple left/right politics. I pray Obama doesn’t go down that dark road.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

True then again why should the press be any different than the REST of the sane portion of the world?

  32. Ape-Man says:

Looks like Bush is still afraid Helen Thomas though. Helen Thomas should follow Bush and Cheney around and ask them questions until they break. Maybe then they will tell us what we need to know.

  33. ljm says:

Sincerity? The man isn’t sincere about anything! He makes lite (Bush lite) about the lives of billions of people for an hour, and then wanders off as quickly and insincerely as he has led the free world for 8 years. His sins are so great, over so long a time that I’m too burned out to adequately express the joy I’ll feel when exits the great door to the west in one week.

  34. KayInMaine says:

Did a reporter yell, “sit down!”, to the press at the end of the video? Sounded like it.

There has been only one journalist in that room for the past eight years – Helen Thomas.

You can flush the rest of those so called journalists down the toilet for allowing Bush to destroy America.

  38. Game of Life says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

I bet chimpy thought he would leave with a roaring standing ovation.

He’s lucky that the reporters kept their shoes on or maybe that’s why he didn’t stick around and tap dance for them.

That is what should happen in congress too.

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

BTW — Every year during the beginning of the year I mistakenly write the previous year. For some reason I haven’t made that mistake;I don’t think I can.

So isn’t it customary for some one to make up some shit about the white house being like vandalized or something? I heard they are planning to clear all the brush spray paint “Mission Accomplished” all over stuff.
