No, your goal is to get the torturee to tell you what you don’t know. Their goal is to get you to stop. Therefore, it’s much more important to tell you what you want to hear than the truth. For example, let’s say you’re torturing a cab driver who you think is a terrorist. If he tells you he’s a cab driver, you’ll just torture him some more, because of course that’s what the terrorist would say. So he’ll tell you he’s a terrorist. Congratulations, you just caught a terrorist! Now he’s got to make up a bunch of stuff to keep you satisfied or you’ll start torturing him again. Because he doesn’t know anything about terrorism to begin with, all of what he tells you will be false.
