Olmert stands by his story on Rice’s Gaza vote.

The Bush administration has been on a full-court press to push back on Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s widely-circulated statements that he got the U.S. to abstain from voting on the U.N.’s Gaza ceasefire resolution. But Olmert aides say today that he “stands by his claim” and that he “told the story as it happened.” U.N. Dispatch notes these comments from U.N. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad:

He said that Rice spent an “unprecedented” three days working on the resolution, and that the United States drafted a big portion of the resolution, which he described as “very reasonable.”

Mark Leon Goldberg asks, “What’s curious to me, at least, is why the United States would not vote in favor of a resolution that its ambassador considered ‘very reasonable’ and its Secretary of State worked so hard on drafting?”

I hate to keep repeating myself but…

Jerusalem: 3 Oct 2001 (IAP) — According to Israel radio (in Hebrew) Kol Yisrael, [Shimon] Peres warned [Ariel] Sharon Wednesday that refusing to heed incessant American requests for a cease-fire with the Palestinians would endanger Israeli interests and “turn the US against us.”

At this point, a furious Sharon reportedly turned toward Peres, saying “every time we do something you tell me Americans will do this and will do that. I want to tell you something very clear, don’t worry about American pressure on Israel, we, the Jewish people control America, and the Americans know it.”

When Israel calls, Bush always grabs the phone and does whatever he is told. What is not to understand about this relationship? We send Israel about $10 billion per year, and we do what they tell us to do. Sounds reasonable, no?

  12. Jackie says:

As the Palestine Holocaust Massacre has now killed 1,000 innocent people and thousands injured it’s clear Olmert the criminal has lied. Every tale Israel now reports ends up to be a bold face lie even with proof. Cluater bombs to kill as many people as possible and now fire bombs to burn people to death. All with a report of 3 Israel people killed. Many who are alived and witnessed the Horror of the Jews Holocaust can only now witness the Palestine Holocaust Massacre done by Israel. Israel celebrated 60 years on the land agreed in the 1948 United Nations settlement on Palestine land. This stuff about God giving Israel the land is fake but when people don’t read History it seems to work. If the World were to use the bible to give everyone back the land God gave the US would be out of luck. Israel is now seen for who they really are Axis of Evil. Even Olmert has been indicted for crimes. What’s shocking is how Abbas of the Fatah Party went along with the US/Israel in slaughtering his own people. The pictures are so horrorible of the kids burned to death and those little bodies under rocks, what kind of human does this to a child?

Yep. Dr. Rce is a very accomplished person who certainly has a level of pride still within her. Why would she let the ‘all hat and no cattle’ preznit drop be like a bad habit? She may still have a future in the academic world, so she would want the account of her performance to be accurate.

Is she going to, once again, cover for Bush?

    Shayne,

Condi cannot ever save her own legacy. Her failure to do her job allowed 9/11 to happen. Period.

    Richard Clark warned this loser!

She ignored the intel because she and the RePugniScums were too busy hating Clinton to the core!

Clark was considered to be a “Clinton” enemy despite his years of service to other administrations.

The RePugniScums quickly covered her lame a$$ by quickly creating the DHS instead of investigating her HUGH FAILURE that lead to 9/11 !!!!

Jackie, have you ever read passages from the Jewish Holy Book, the Talmud?

Sanhedrin 57a . When a Jew murders a gentile (”Cuthean”), there will be no death penalty. What a Jew steals from a gentile he may keep.

  23. Keltoi at Night says:

Man, is there anything uglier than feckless, weakling politicians in their waning days of power? By that I mean both Olmert and Bush. Why in the hell are they having this hair pulling spat in public?

  24. Mr. Evil says:

Israel. What a joke. Instead of appreciating the great gift they were given in by the UN in 1947 they they declared their independence in 1948 and began their paranoid aggression against the Palestinians and the rest of the Arab world. Instead of being a gracious neighbor, they became warmongers bent on taking what they believe God gave them. Well, you can believe anything you want. If you want to believe that little purple elephants flutter outside your bedroom window singing you lullabies every night, you are free and clear to do so. I believe the Israel of today is a piece of shit. This fantasy that the Christians of the U.S. believe that they have to protect Israel at all costs so Jesus can return to kill them and enact the rapture for the faithful Christians is nothing short of twisted! When will people learn that you cannot shape reality with fantasy? The Israelies are not special. They are not God’s chosen people. They are not anyone’s chosen people (except maybe fellow neocons and warmongers). They need to wake up and realize that they are diseased human beings just like the rest of us.

  25. Perry logan says:

I can only conclude Israel is deliberately trying to humiliate both our outgoing and our incoming Presidents. Not a very gracious response to the people who are paying their bills–but they are insane, after all.

My feeling exactly, Keltoi. Their behavior seems more appropriate to Jerry Springer, than international relations.

  29. Marie says:

So, who’re you gonna believe? Honestly, Bush&Co don’t have any credibility.

  30. delafield says:

Mr. Evil Says: Israel. What a joke

    Mr. Evil,

As far as I’m concerned, there’s nothing funny about Jewish terrorists who’ve been murdering Muslims and Christians in Palestine/The Holy Lands for the past 60 years.

If America wants to win the “war on terror”, she has to deal with the root of terrorism – Israel.

  31. jurassicpork says:

“I don’t know what’s more nauseating, folks: This right wing lunatic Palmor branding as a Hamas propagandist and leftist everyone who cites facts after having worked in this war zone or the United States Senate holding a vote while our nation is falling down around our ears in order to reaffirm Israel’s right to defend itself. Which is sort of like a judge reaffirming a wife batterer’s right to defend himself after his wife scratched his face just before he sent her to the Critical Care Unit.”

  32. sacopenapa says:

Two War Criminals pointing the finger at each other…
Everybody knows how the USA and Israel have been blocking any atempt to a peaceful resolution in the region. When they don’t outright vote against it, that is vetoing it, they abstain from voting.
Rice bent over for Olmert on that one and everybody knows it. Who can trust a LIER???! Remeber her saying in Congress that “Let me state quite clear that the USA does not TORTURE and does not condone TORTURE”.
HAGUE FOR BOTH! OLMERT AND RICE!

  38. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

Will Obama be the next puppet that Israel holds the strings to? God, I hope not!!

If the US truly wants Israel to take up peace negotiations then we need to pull the vast amounts of funding they receive from us every damn year. It’s not as if WE couldn’t use the money ourselves.

  39. valletta says:

    You mean _this_ Khalilzad?

    http://www.politicalaffairs.net/article/articleview/4029/

“Unocal also employed two well-connected Afghans to influence the Taliban in its favor, naturalized U.S. citizen Zalmay Khalilzad, and Hamid Karzai, both linked to former Afghan king Zahir Shah, then living in Pakistan. The pair later became U.S. Ambassador to Iraq and U.S.-backed President of Afghanistan, respectively.
President Bush first appointed Khalilzad to his National Security Council(NSC) staff, under Condoleezza Rice, and on December 31, 2001, named him “special envoy” to Afghanistan, only nine days after the Karzai government took office in Kabul.

“It should be recalled,” Johnson writes, Khalilzad joined NSC on May 23, 2001, “just in time to work on an operational order for an attack on Afghanistan.”

    And _this_ Condoleeza?

This shouldn’t be hard at all to prove or disprove. I trust there’s a blogger out there somewhere working on this since I’m sure it’s too much to ask from a real reporter.

  42. getplaning says:

I heard an interesting idea today. That the Kings and Rulers of the Arab countries were allowing the slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza because Hamas was the first elected government in the Arab world, and that the Kings and Rulers were a little nervous that (real) democracy might take hold in the Arab world. And we already know what Israel and the US think of democracy.
    Something to think about.

  43. sectionop92 says:

Nah. The Israeli’s have our military tech and training on their side. For the Arab countries to be a threat, they’d have to combine their military forces and hope to Allah they could wage war with Israel with no Western military intervention.

The odds of worldwide Jewish outrage over an outbreak of war with the Arabs being silenced: 0.0000001%.

  44. JaneaneTheAcerbicGoblin says:

I wonder if Bush likes being publicly humilated by another head of state. It’s kind of pathetic if this story is true, that a prime minister of another country can have so much power over a soverign (sp) nation like the US.

Is Bush Olmert’s poodle? Would he like being called that?

Bush administration and in particular Condi Rice are trying to deny what has been known for some time regarding big influence of AIPAC and Israel on US foreign policies made.
Rice can try, but the facts are overwhelming.

When Olmert opened his mouth and spilled the beans in the open ,the issue became a problem for Bush and Rice who preferred to have it kept in the dark and out of the public’s knowledge instead ,as it is usually done to conceal the power of the AIPAC lobby, and to avoid such embarrassment.
