Bush declares ‘National Sanctity of Human Life Day.’

As one of his final actions in office, President Bush proclaimed today that Jan. 18 is National Sanctity of Human Life Day. In his official statement, Bush made it clear that his conception of “human life” includes the unborn:

All human life is a gift from our Creator that is sacred, unique, and worthy of protection. On National Sanctity of Human Life Day, our country recognizes that each person, including every person waiting to be born, has a special place and purpose in this world. We also underscore our dedication to heeding this message of conscience by speaking up for the weak and voiceless among us.

Bush also used the occasion to tout his legacy of anti-choice policies, such as promoting parental notification laws and opposing Federal funding for abortions overseas.

unless, of course, that human life happens to be Muslim. In that case, drop depleted uranium on them.

  2. 666lattes says:

It just goes to show… that he needs to declare it a special day just to appreciate the sanctitiy Human life.

At least he can be himself for the other 364 days.

Accept, of course, the U.S. govt and courts are still allowed to play God with post-born life as is the case with W’s fervent defense and heavy use of the death penalty particularly as governor of TX.

    1) It’s not a person, it’s a fetus, or more appropriatley, it’s a mass of cells devoloping into tissues (and eventually organs).
    2) I don’t think a fetus “waits” to be born. In fact, I’m pretty sure the fetus would stay in the warmth of the womb for eternity, if it could.
    3) When does our Day of Mourning for those who couldn’t enjoy National Sanctity of Human Life Day because of miscarriage begin???
    4) Better yet, why does this quote “We also underscore our dedication to heeding this message of conscience by speaking up for the weak and voiceless among us.” not include innocent Iraqis?
    5) And finally, nice to see that after almost 8 brutal years in office, you get your little “shout out to all your homies” who elected you in the first place. Oh sure, abortion rates really never drastically decreased, let alone stopped altogether. But, you must appease the masses, eh dum fck?

  35. misshusseinmolly says:

Does “National Sanctity of Human Life Day” mean that all scheduled executions are stayed — at least for the day? Does it mean that just for that day all of our troops stand down in Iraq? Does it mean amnesty for all Americans who have run up huge medical and/or pharmaceutical bills just to stay alive?

Nah — it’s just a bone he’s throwing to anti-abortionists. When the wingnuts say “sanctity of life” they are only talking about the pre-born kind.

  36. Zimzone says:

This from the peanut butter & ‘red’ jelly man?

Sanctity of life…was that what Babs & Dad did the day your little sister died & instead of telling you about it they went golfing?

This from the guy who’s ‘biggest disappointment’ was no WMDs in Iraq? So disappointed that to support the sanctity of life he bombed & killed thousands of children & babies?

Is this the sanctity of life he considered when the EPA denied clean air standards in CA to protect unborn babies & children?

Was it sanctity of life that propelled him to allows him to support Israelis bombing & killing children & babies in Gaza?

W, if your Savior is Jesus Christ, you better pray to your God that Jesus shows more compassion to you than you have to the ‘Sanctity of Life’.

  37. Wayne A. Schneider says:

I have found that people who talk about “the sanctity of human life” really do not believe in “the sanctity of human life”. They are nothing more than anti-abortionists. They could not care less what happens to people already born. Not one bit. This is just more hypocrisy from the Hypocrite-in-Cheif.

So capital punishment will be abolished that day?

Wow, it would really suck to be executed on “National Sanctity of Human Life Day.”

    .

    Marie Says:

4226 lives given up in a needless, unwarranted, illegal war.

The number is far, far higher than that if you consider non-Americans to be persons. I believe that the conservatives don’t.

    .

    Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

The Bible defines life when a baby draws its first breath. The Bible defines life as “breath” in several passages, including the story of Adam’s creation.

Modern fundamentalist Christianity has become completely divorced from its theological basis. It owes far more to the tent-revivals of the early 1900’s than it does to historical Christianity or Judaism. Consider all the “left behind” stuff, none of which is in the bible at all. They’re more off-script than the Mormons are by now, and are pretty much just making up new things to believe in at an ever-increasing pace.

The thing that biblethumpers actually have a problem with is any human agency interfering with the notion that God personally decides when any life begins and ends. They’ll complain about “playing God” whenever anyone tries to control either their own reproduction or the end of their life. Pharmacists refusing to sell plan-B is at one end of it, and Terry Schiavo is at the other.

The point is that this isn’t about “life” – if it was, grow some potted plants. And it’s not even about “human life,” or stem cell research would be great – they make lots and lots more of those in petri dishes. For rational people, it’s about personhood. For biblethumpers, it’s about taking control of decisions that they feel only God (i.e. chance) should be allowed to make.

I was referring to a physically abusive father, but incest is also a possibility. So, you’re saying that never happens. That no teenage daughters are deathly terrified of their parents finding out, and that even if there were, none of them have good reason to be.

That’s a very interesting view of reality. You’re lucky to live in such a wonderful country where things like that never happen. Me, I live in America, and it happens all the time – usually because of the presence of all those damn social conservatives.

For biblethumpers, it’s also about ducking the ultimate responsibility for their own choices and actions.
They forget the part about god giving mankind free will.
When things go good, they might remember to thank god. When things go bad they say “It’s god’s will”, in effect, laying the blame at gods feet.

Caring for your children, as opposed to killing them, is taking responsibility. Most Christians don’t blame God for the bad things in the world. They know it is all the result of sin in the world. ;)

Most of our brains are just fine. Now we just need to do something about the remaining social conservatives. But at the rate that they’re inbreeding amongst their own group, I’m concerned that they may stop evolving entirely, and the rest of us will leave them behind.

I never get how natural disasters which results from physical phemenon like earthquakes, floods, hurricanes and the like have anything at all with human behavior… It makes no sense!

As I understand it from listening to them, if some people do it in the butt, the Lord lifts his “invisible shield of protection,” allowing bad things to occur to the entire population. That’s because God will stop at no lengths to get at people who do it in the butt. Make sense now?

Sure it does. If humans had practiced a little self control in the beginning, none of those things would be happening. ;)

No I never heard of it. Maybe because a soon to be forgotten bunch of dipshits wanted to call it climate change to make it less scary

Wasn’t it the global warming alarmists who began using the term climate change to explain the extreme cold of late? ;)

You all need to give President Bush respect. We have not had a terrorist attack since Sept 11th 2001. I am a US Marine and have seen first hand what we have done in Iraq. Any of you who have not to Iraq, really have no place to talk when it comes to how the Iraqis are treated.

Life begins at conception regardless of what you all believe. The Fetus is alive and has a heartbeat at as early as 5 weeks which is usually right around when most women find out that they are pregnant.

A hospital checks for the heartbeat to determine whether a person is considered diseased. If this is how we measure death, then this should also be how we measure life.

    God Bless All of you!
