Israel prepares post-war battle for public opinion.

new.jpgEarlier this month, NBC’s war correspondent Richard Engel reported that Israel was waiting until Barack Obama’s inauguration to let reporters into Gaza, when viewers “simply won’t care.” Yesterday, Israel declared its war with Gaza over, meaning reporters may now be allowed to enter the strip:

With the fighting over, foreign journalists and non-governmental organisations are expected to flood into the impoverished Palestinian territory to assess the damage from 22 days of massive bombing and shelling.

With this in mind, Israel is reportedly “readying a new offensive — the battle for public opinion.” AFP reports Israel has begun compiling information to try to prove that many of the 4,000 residential buildings, 51 government buildings, and 20 mosques it hit during the offensive were legitimate targets used by Hamas militants. At least six Israeli ministers will be “fanning out to different countries to press home Israel’s view of the conduct of the war.” Welfare Minister Isaac Herzog said Israel is aiming to prevent an ‘over-dramatization‘ of the facts.”

See how the Israelis are? Just like Bush, everything is an orchestrated game to them. Spit.

  2. Another Joe says:

    “battle for public opinion”?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Like there is any real question that they have the media assets and the echo-chamber and noise machine to do it? The propaganda machine has already kicked into high gear.

This will be a “battle” in the same way Hitler’s conquest of Poland and France were “battles”. But most of the world call the total annihilation of your opposition “blitzkrieg”.

  6. barfly says:

To counter the criticism, the government has begun assembling “incriminating” information on the many buildings hit during the offensive to prove they were legitimate targets used by Hamas militants.

Aerial photos and images filmed by foot soldiers equipped with video cameras during the fighting are being combed through in order to extract details on as many incidents as possible, Israeli Welfare Minister Isaac Herzog said.

“Israel wants to be able to present facts that the majority of the demolished buildings were used by militants. Many were booby-trapped, used for firing rockets and storing arms,” he told AFP.

They’ll be salting the ruins with “evidence,” to justify the slaughter.

While we’re all reveling in the inauguration and celebrating. Isn’t that just so clever of Olmert. This time though, I don’t think it’s going to work as well. American public opinion seems to be turning. It’s time for the Israelis to look into themselves and remember the holocaust.

It is no surprise that media netowrks news in USA are reporting news differently than medias around the world about Israel assault on Gaza.

It is reported in a nicely and justifiably designed fashion to fit Israel’s goals of the repeated selling of ‘Israeli’s the victim’ to Americans scripted by military and and Israeli officials, and later parroted by US media, and sadly US officials.

  21. 5th Estate says:

    thanks for that freeman….

as soon as Israel began it’s blockade of Gaza, the parallel to the Warsaw ghetto was obvious. And then the bombing and shelling and the ground advance complete the parallel.

This is the SECOND time they have engaged in ‘total war’ ( the first was Lebanon, 2006).

The Israeli government does not have a logical (or moral) leg to stand on. They provoked a retaliation from the militants of Hamas on Dec15 by making up a ridiculous story about how a tunnel was going to be used to kidnap Israeli border soldiers–as is the soldiers couldn’t defend themselves?!
If they ‘knew’ about the ‘tunnel’, why didn’t they wait for the Hamas guys to surface inside Israel? (assuming of course that the tunnel story was true).

Instead the rolled into Gaza and killed 4 Hamas guys, thereby BREAKING THE CEASEFIRE. Two rockets into Israel was the response, no injuries, therefore not enough excuse to start a war. So Israel tried again by invading and killing more Hamas, to get a bigger response–which they did, though again without much effect. But as soon as one Israeli civilian got killed THEN the war could get started.

Hamas is endangering ordinary Palestinians with their methods, but the Israeli government is doing the same it it’s citizens—indeed it seems they encouraged Hamas to try and kill Israeli civilians so they could have a justification for their war. If the Hamas rockets had been more accurate the war would have started earlier. Israel needed Hamas to increase their rocket responses to be assured of the needed Israeli casualties.

Unfortunately for them the only support they have in the US is the support of our government. Most of the people in this country condemn what Israel is doing.

BTW, don’t you find it interesting that there have been no polls asking the people of Israel how they feel about what their government is doing? I suspect this is because the last poll they took showed that 65% of the people in Israel supported direct diplomatic talks with Hamas.

They have an election coming up in February. I would like to think that is when they can vote for a new leader who believes in diplomacy. Unfortunately it appears that all the candidates are Olmert clones.

  55. 5th Estate says:

freeman:The comparison to the nazi’s was made by a Jewish lawmaker in the English parliament whose grandmother was killed by the nazi’s in her bed in Poland

And as everyone in Israel must surely be aware (”Never Forget!”) the Nazis began by destroying Polish Jewish-owned businesses and confiscating property and controlling their general movement. Then they coralled them into ghettos and denied them the most basic supplies of food, water and medicine. And then when the Polish Jews attempted to get out, they were killed. And when they tried to fight back, they were killed en-masse.

Yet somehow glezerry refuses to see the comparison and therefore cannot see the extraordinary irony (and inhumanity of course) of the Israeli government employing exactly the same methods as did the Nazis against the Polish Jews!

  56. Jess Wonderin says:

Glezzery is a fine example of the “revisionist” coverage of the “invasion” . . . state lies and deny facts – we actually take the time to respond and lose the fact that our media is played like a cheap pole dancer with bloodstained shekels stuffed in the thong . . .

Is there any REALLY evidence of phosphorous being used?
    Film?

It would be a little difficult to come up with film evidence since Israel has not allowed any reporters into Gaza until yesterday. Why is that? Why was Israel so desperate to keep reporters out of Gaza?

BTW, you didn’t provide any proof that they are not using cluster bombs and white phosphorus. All you provided were your opinions and they are worth squat here.

  58. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

    glezzery Says:
I see NO conclusive proof of these weapons in any of those articles, just innuendo.

And you have provided no conclusive proof that they haven’t used them. Personally I’ll take the word of a UN aid worker over yours any day.

  59. freeman says:

And the bombing of infrastructure only rebuilt since they last destroyed it upon pulling out of Gaza ?
Schools where they told people to seek shelter that were bombed ?
Ambulances and UN workers attempting to help the wounded ?
Starving the population pre invasion ?
The ratio of Palestinian dead to Israeli dead ?
The ratio of Palestinian women and children killed compared to Hamas ?
    No problem there ?

They deserve nothing as they have not given anything.
Aside from their homes which are occupied with no right of return or compensation ? How about their land or the fact that what percentage of their population is living in refugee camps and or as refugees in other part of the Arab world ?
Where does compassion fit in ?
The number of Palestine refugees registered with UNRWA in Lebanon is currently 409,714, or an estimated 10 per cent of the population of Lebanon, a small country which is now quite densely populated.
    From wikipedia
The number of Palestinian refugees by country as of 2005 were as follows:

    Jordan 1,827,877 refugees
    Gaza 986,034 refugees
    West Bank 699,817 refugees
    Syria 432,048 refugees
    Lebanon 404,170 refugees
    Saudi Arabia 240,000 refugees
    Egypt 70,245 refugees[1]
    Further information: Palestinian refugee camps
The Israeli government passed the Absentee Property Law, which allowed for the confiscation of the property of refugees. The government demolished many of the refugees’ villages and settled Jewish refugees in urban Arab communities – the Library of Congress Country Study on Israel cites American scholar Don Peretz’s estimate that ‘by 1954 “more than one-third of Israel’s Jewish population lived on absentee property, and nearly a third of the new immigrants (250,000 people) settled in the urban areas abandoned by Arabs”‘[8].

This is a complete lie. Israel never left either place. There are still growing settlements in the West Bank, whose residents are regularly harassing Palestinians who live around them. And while Israel abandoned their settlements in Gaza, they never actually left. Israel has not used one cluster bomb nor Phosphorous on anyone in Gaza.

Aren’t you the guy who said that we found WMD’s in Iraq? I’m withholding judgement on that one until someone can get some facts. It won’t be too hard to know either way once reporters get a chance to check for physical evidence thereof.

    glezzery Says:

They are a completely dysfunctional terrorist society bent on the destruction of Israel.

Aaaand there it is. You aren’t anti-Hamas. You’re anti-Palestinian. You want an entire people to be slaughtered because “they deserve it.” You are a genocidal bigot who champions mass murder.

    .

I just skipped to the end after this point, because none of your other lies matter in comparison to this fact: you support genocide. You champion the slaughter of populations. Everything that you say is solely in service to whatever f**king necon death god you bow to. You’ll say whatever it takes to kill more people. At this point, you could tell me that 2 + 2 = 4, and the only reasoned response would still be to backhand you across your evil face.

Seen a lot of lame trolls in my time, but this infantile glezzery character has about as much substance as saran wrap. When your reaction to what happened in Gaza boils down to “LMAO” you sir, are profoundly shallow. My 6 year old daughter has more to offer to a conversation.

On the bright side, with friends like glezzery, Irael’s propaganda war may be tougher than anticipated.

[Lots and lots and lots of crap deleted]

Please. Make it stop. This guy keeps lying and lying and denying everything, spewing all kinds of shit a 4-year old would find insulting.

How much are they paying him, and which Israeli bank manages his transactions?

  98. arleang says:

The Israelis should call off their media blitz. The very small percentage of people who are well-informed will not buy it. And no need to waste money on the rest; no matter what you spin, they didn’t care before you invaded and care even less now.

  99. Musk says:

Israel prepares post-war battle for public opinion.

Looks to the the ship has a ready saled on that one

  100. stateofthedivision says:

    From Haaretz:

Israeli President Simon Peres asserted that, “I am sure that Israel will be a good partner to President Obama.

“They say Obama will be a good president to Israel, and I say Israel will be a good country for the President, because his goals are our goals, his hopes are our hopes, his source is our source,” he said.

SOME Palestinians danced in the streets OTHERS held a prayer vigil to show solidarity. I guess SOME Palestinians were black hearted, small people like YOU and others had actual humanity UNLIKE you.

  103. markbaland says:

Perhaps with Barack’s more favorable attitude towards Islam and the people of the middle east, the USA will stop being so one-sided, supporting the Jews and treating the Muslims like sub-humans, just because the Jewish have more money and influence in Washington and New York and Hollywood than the Islamic people do. If we treated both sides equally, with the same compassion for the losses and the same disapproval of their violence, it would do wonders for US relations with Islam.
