On Fox News Sunday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said she was open to pursuing investigations of abuses by the Bush Justice Department. “I think that we have to learn from the past and we cannot let the politicizing, for example, of the Justice Department, to go unreviewed,” Pelosi said. “Past is prologue. We learn from it.” Asked if she wants to see investigations, Pelosi responded, “Well, I want to see the truth come forth.”
Pelosi sucks. Period.
January 18th, 2009 at 11:24 amOh, NOW you’re interested in prosecuting Bush??? Gosh Nancy…you finally feeling the heat of peoples anger towards your ‘impeachment is off the table’ stunt?
January 18th, 2009 at 11:28 amI’m not going to start the new year carrying the same cynical load I’ve lugged these last eight years. I’m looking at the new electoral mix, and the new, more powerful democratic majority. Perhaps past is prologue, but as time goes by, and the alleged abuses start to pile up, it’s hard to believe that congress won’t push for accountability for past criminality.
January 18th, 2009 at 11:30 amAbuses by the Bush Justice Department? When Bush allowed the “political” wing of the party (in the bloated form of Karl Rove) steer policy, what could be expected?
January 18th, 2009 at 11:30 amWhere was this attitude two years ago, Madame Speaker? And how, exactly, do you hope to see “the truth come forth” without investigations? And for the last time, why are you not supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States? Without that document, you would have no job.
If you try to impede the investigation or prosecution of any Bush officials or other Members of Congress, I will lead the charge to have you removed from your job as Speaker. Consider yourself on notice, Madame Speaker.
January 18th, 2009 at 11:31 amOh, well. Bad link. It should have gone here. Sorry. (I hope it’s right now.)
January 18th, 2009 at 11:32 amHooRah !!!
Pelosi had lots of time to investigate Bush but did not. It is my hope that, to her credit, Pelosi deferred until a time when documents and testimony would be more forthcoming – post inauguration.
The United States of America and the world need to heal after the gangland/drug-lord style administration of Cheney/Bush. The only way to heal this nation and develop confidence in our representatives is to investigate the Cheney/Bush administration. If, as they claim, no laws were broken, then we can rest easier. If laws were broken then appropriate recourse is necessary.
Bush and his handlers set out to usurp total control of our nation – forever. One only needs to reflect on the words of that cesspool of a person Tom Delay to understand their motive. They, and everyone, must be sent a message that usurping control of our nation is not acceptable. Prosecutions of Bush, Cheney and of everyone who facilitated their efforts would send such a message.
January 18th, 2009 at 11:36 amOkay. Impeachment off the table. Investigations on the table when they can’t do much good. Got it, Nancy.
By the way investigate your own culpability in the Bush crimes, Nan.
January 18th, 2009 at 11:36 amWell, I guess it’s safe to investigate politicizing the DoJ since that was one of the crimes she was not involved in. Torture? Rendition? Warrentless wiretaps? Illegal war in Iraq? Still off the table. Investigate, prosecute and imprison ALL involved no matter what party they are from. That is the only way we can move forward as a nation and preserve the Constitution. Are you listening, Nancy?
January 18th, 2009 at 11:36 amSomeone is trying to polish the turd that has become her legacy.
January 18th, 2009 at 11:36 amExit Stage Left Says:

Yes, yes. But any impeachment proceeding would never have been successful. The Blue Dogs would never have cooperated, nor the republicans. Prosecuting cabinet members is about the best we could ever have hoped for in the political environment of the last eight years.
January 18th, 2009 at 11:37 amWhere have been Madame Speaker??? Put up or shut up…

January 18th, 2009 at 11:41 amOnly in the USA! We can elect invertebrates and have them make it to the #3 spot!
January 18th, 2009 at 11:44 amI think Pelosi’s Fox remarks are primarily aimed at Gonzo and his cronies at Justice, who’ve stonewalled congressional democrats the past eight years. Holder’s got a real job, ferreting out the party-before-country political hacks, while pressuring them to roll over on their ring-leaders. Who knows what some frightened Bushie might reveal, to slip the hypothetical prosecution noose?
Interesting times ahead, cap’n.
January 18th, 2009 at 11:45 amWe have already put too many things into the oceans and upon the bottoms of the oceans. We need to cut that shit out. It is messing things up.
January 18th, 2009 at 11:54 amShe took it “off the table” after the dems won on the issue of “accountability” and now she is saying this.
Have to judge her (and every other politician on every side) by actions. Pelosi has shown that her rhetoric does not match the “leadership” it is her job to provide.
I will take this as “good news”, but will not proclaim that we will see justice until justice is done.
January 18th, 2009 at 12:06 pmnow that she’s had two years to think about it….
what about Israel Nanc? going to look into those crimes too?
January 18th, 2009 at 12:06 pmShe’ll have redeemed herself IF she actually does anything in this vein that results in actual justice.
Until then, I remain skeptical that she will cater to anything expect her Corporate and Lobbyist masters…

Correction, my friend: “We” did NOT “elect” the top two invertebrates. The 2000 and 2004 elections were rigged, bought and/or paid for, and finagled in the faces of those who actually voted for a different slate–aided and abetted by Jeb, far-right court appointees, and the most definitely NOT “liberal press.”
January 18th, 2009 at 12:19 pmAfter the election two+ years ago, Nancy Pelosi was so eager to give Dubya a pass that she couldn’t even wait until she was installed as Speaker to say that she would take impeachment “off the table.” In a comment on this blog, I was critical because Pelosi couldn’t even bear to keep that to herself and let W. wonder if if he might be held responsible for his acts. Other commenters jumped all over me for finding fault with then Speaker-to-be Pelosi.
January 18th, 2009 at 12:27 pmI’m glad some of you figured it out. I told you so!
Proud:
January 18th, 2009 at 12:29 pmI felt the same way about that stupid blowjob witch hunt.

Calling the slime molds you refer to as invertebrates is an insult to jellyfish everywhere. And my apologies, only a small portion of the nation elected Nancy to Congress and an even smaller portion to her present post. Just goes to show even jellyfish can be dangerous in sufficient numbers.

Oh, NOW you’re interested in prosecuting Bush??? Gosh Nancy…you finally feeling the heat of peoples anger towards your ‘impeachment is off the table’ stunt?
No, she is now feeling the lack of heat having to do with possibly losing the election. I truly believe the reason why they kept impeachment off the table was because they were scared it would freak out the people in this country and cause them to lose the election. They read the people wrong.
But, with the mandate they received from the election, they now have the power to do the things they should have done a long time ago.
I’m hoping that she is open to more prosecutions than just what went on in the DOJ.
January 18th, 2009 at 12:56 pmWhat’s with the overuse of caps? I mean really everytime I see it I just skip your posts…
January 18th, 2009 at 1:40 pmOf course, Repugs want the Dems to put the past behind them and move on without investigating Bush&Co which would inevitably led to prosecutions.
January 18th, 2009 at 1:45 pmThey didn’t feel that way when Clinton was investigated for a sexual affair, as if that had any importance in running the country, but they salivated at the thought of keeping him on the defensive — Dumbya has driven the metaphorical USA bus over the cliff, violated the Constitution, admittedly broke federal laws, and they want Congress to not “waste” time and effort investigating them.
IOKIYAR
and there is the whole problem. George didn’t get a hummer in the closet.
Probably because they couldn’t find anyone willing to ‘bite the bullet’?
January 18th, 2009 at 2:11 pmI think her saying it on faux is just giving them fair warning of what is coming…..get ready.

.
January 18th, 2009 at 3:02 pmUh, Nancy, the Bush Criminal Mafia has broken way more laws than just the DOJ stuff….
…maybe you just don’t want your part of the Torture and War Crimes that Bush Committed to be exposed to the general public.

This could completely ruin the gopper party and they know it. And I have to wonder if some of the dems, such as Pelosi, also fear blow back by investigating the past 8 years.
In order to move forward, we have to clean up the mess left on the path.
January 18th, 2009 at 3:31 pmShe’s a friggin joke. It’s a little late now, and unless they plan on prosecuting anyone it’s just a big waste of time. Anyone with a brain and access to a computer knows Bush & Co. was nothing more more than a criminal cabal and propaganda mill. What’s the process for changing congressional leadership anyway? Her and Reid are just awful in those positions, it seems to me.

January 18th, 2009 at 4:06 pmI 3rd it, zooey!!!!
January 18th, 2009 at 7:10 pmNO NO NO.
THE investigations of bu$h & co should not start at the most easily defended point. All this will accomplish NANCY is the the RIGHT WING will WIN on this Semi-legal politcal move, and then be able to paint ANY OTHER investigating as a whitewash of bush, similar to how Scooter’s felony conviction was fodder for their saying that NO LAW WAS BROKEN.
INVESTIGATIONS should start at the most EGREGIOUS issues, to make sure that they are held accountable for their treason and murder.
YES, MURDER. READ THE BOOK NANCY. BULGIOSI.
January 18th, 2009 at 7:51 pmSo,
January 18th, 2009 at 8:46 pmDoes proud think that the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Congressman John Conyers, should not fully exercise his duty and responsibility to the Nation and ignore violations committed by the Highest Officers of this land…?
… Because when the president does it, that means it is not illegal?
Proud,
Just what Justice would Congressman John Conyers be providing for his Constituents if he should turn a blind eye to injustice?
HAPPY MLK Jr. DAY!!!
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
Sorry proud,

Hoodathunk, I abase myself. My bad: jellyfish have more spine than BushCo, and I should not have demeaned them. Mea culpa.
January 19th, 2009 at 4:45 amWhy did it take 2 years for you to decide this, Nancy? Chimpy and his minions have done incalculable damage to this nation and its reputation and only now the light bulb has gone off that they need to be investigated? If the House had any integrity it would remove you as Speaker and if the Senate had the same integrity it would remove that total disgrace of a “leader” named Harry Reid. You’re a creep Nancy – only now having the guts to do what should have been done when it would have made a difference.
January 19th, 2009 at 8:02 amI’ll make a simple analogy.
My Grandmother died because she ignored a mound. it festered and became gangrene. She lost her leg but not before the poison had seeped into her body. this happened with all of our modern medicine.
If the Gov’t refuses to tend to our wounds this whole country could end up facing a situation similar to my Grandmother…
Yes my Grandmother may have had something to do with causing her wound (Pelosi-torture) but had she just taken care of it (investigated) before it became gangrenous (timed out of office) it would have been less painful, not just for her but for all who loved her.
January 19th, 2009 at 8:50 amPelousy and Greid need to investigate why they couldn’t anything against the most inept president in the past 30 years. She has no idea how pathetic her “leadership” has been. She honestly believes she is an important person.
January 19th, 2009 at 11:40 ambetter late than never.
January 19th, 2009 at 12:35 pmi’m glad she seems to be dropping the usual wimpy bullsh*t dem talking points about political impracticality etc.
it’d be nice if mister “we need to look forward” obama would pay attention to her on this one.
It is well past time for Progressives to suck it up and get real…
We a part of a governing coalition. Now we must govern, and do it responsibly… Elections do have consequences and we can explore some of the more pleasant of them as time allows, investigations and prosecutions will be in the natural progression of events as the inevitable falling out among thieves plays out in the publishing houses and the rubber chicken circuit over the next few years.
What is important is to set the record straight, to show for the People and our heirs that we know the where, when, why (and by whom) of these crimes… That our Republic was betrayed there can be no doubt and what is important is this sure knowledge and our resolve to not go there again. In order to insure that we never travel as far down the road to tyranny as we just have, there must be a reckoning, but a criminal court may not be the best place for that.
I would like to see Rumsfeld, Fieth, Cheney, the whole bunch of them, in the dock… But better that they and their twisted ideology of cynical power for the sake of power become objects of ridicule and are knowingly rejected by the American People.

January 19th, 2009 at 6:28 pmWell, better late than never. The more dialogue RE: Bush administration crimes, the more attention it will get. Hopefully, the chatter and dialogue will increase and HE will finally be investigated, along with his corrupt administration.People, we need to keep up the dialogue RE: the VERY important investigation. Write to your congressman demanding an investigation. If the people speak loud enough, the politicians will jump on board. So, speak loudly and spread the word.
