On Jan. 4, President-elect Obama arrived at Andrews Air Force Base “aboard a presidential aircraft for the first time as the principal passenger, as he moved to Washington from his home town of Chicago.” Although the Boeing 757 wasn’t officially designated Air Force One, it was painted like the presidential plane and “flight stewards and ground staff wore jackets embroidered with the Air Force One logo, and presidential seals decorated the plane’s interior.” National Geographic (via FlightBlogger) captured what happened on Obama’s first official USAF flight. Watch it:
The full documentary, Onboard Air Force One, will air Jan. 25 on the National Geographic Channel.
Any second now, the rabid right-wing will say that Obama’s use of Air-Force One means that he doesn’t care about global warming.
January 19th, 2009 at 1:51 pmmeans that he doesn’t care about global warming
or that he is being uppity.
January 19th, 2009 at 1:56 pmI’m all Alan Alda giddy.
January 19th, 2009 at 1:57 pmThe right-wing is now the clipped-wing. It’s about time.
Hooray for the United States and our new President!
January 19th, 2009 at 1:59 pmAir Force 1 is finally flying straight & high again. God bless you President Obama & God bless our Country.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:01 pmDid this plane have Bush’s skank still in it or was it a new one?

January 19th, 2009 at 2:01 pmWhat a class act! Can you imagine Chimpy McFlightsuit boarding a plane and calling one of the stewards serving him “sir”?? It will be so nice to have an adult at the helm…in 22 more hours.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:02 pmI’ll just bet he didn’t disembark in a flight suit & codpiece, either.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:08 pmThe reichwing is dead…with their leaders Rush Limbaugh and mAnn Coulter pissing in the wind.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:16 pmBreaking News: Huckabee lost. In the primary.
Breaking News: God is fallible or Daryll is fallible.
Real Breaking News: Daryll posted on a non-sex thread! Now that’s change we can believe in.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:24 pmHe needs pole dancers on the plane, like in the movie Ironman.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:24 pmRupteredRectum – Don’t you have a “Flogging out the Gay” Closet to go to for the next 24 hours?
Is your “God” still lying to you?
President-elect Phuckabee….LOL…moron.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:26 pmThis just in: Barack Obama will be our new President. Most Americans are happy about that. Some people are not. I be lieve they are called losers.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:29 pmSomebody must have changed RaptureReady’s meds without telling him.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:36 pmI have a feeling the crew will enjoy working for President Obama, he’s obviously able to treat them like co-workers, not servants. Far cry from the elitist Bushes.
Good luck President Obama! May you fly safely today and everyday.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:46 pmI guess TP is really caught up in inauguration. This is a pretty pointless thread.
All said, I’m thrilled to have voted for Obama (even though he was my 4th choice in the primaries) and look forward to tomorrow’s event.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:47 pmWhat ???
No asinine petnames for the crew or press ???
ding..dong….the witch is dead. Jan. 20, 2009 the end of an ERROR.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:49 pmIt’s just not the same without this wanker troll spouting selective “Christian” hatred…
January 19th, 2009 at 2:52 pmDaryll,
Respect the office of the President, you un-patriotic wanker.
January 19th, 2009 at 2:59 pmI love it and laughed out loud! They’re all out of Grey Poupon but that’s okay – he’ll still have the cheeseburger medium-well with fries. What a classy guy you got there! Those who serve him are gonna love him — if they don’t already.
January 19th, 2009 at 3:00 pmDaryll says: It is annoying. The media needs to cease covering every part of his life.
I might actually agree with you here. That is, if you include such things as his religious affiliation, his sex life, what he eats and drinks, who he “pals around with”, etc. Of course, if they do cover it, it would be nice if it was truthful. Why don’t you go make your statement at RedState?
January 19th, 2009 at 3:03 pmDarryl: It is annoying. The media needs to cease covering every part of his life and start covering the massive ground search for my stolen yard sign.
There, fixed it for you.
January 19th, 2009 at 3:10 pmAt least we won’t have to see him cutting brush down all the time!
January 19th, 2009 at 3:18 pmNo one can undo eight years worth of damage in one day, but I will feel so much safer this time tomorrow. The world will be a better place. What a difference a day can make.
January 19th, 2009 at 3:23 pmObama will not need to run in 2012. A walk will be sufficient.
January 19th, 2009 at 4:01 pmWhen are you going to have the video of Obama’s first shit in the White House toilet? Who cares about this stuff? Show me the video of the economy turning around or US troops leaving Iraq. That’s what I care about.

I think they got that one over at Huffpo. It was shaped just like Abe Lincoln.
Meh, I’m not usually that interested in this sort of thing either, so what I usually do is ignore it. Maybe it would be better to click into every minor factoid post I see and complain. How’s that working for ya?

No Obama run in 2012 I see?
Interesting thing about that $170M number, it was apparently totally made up. Nobody knows what source or calculation came up with that figure; the MSM’s just been bouncing it back and forth without tracing it to any source. Also, it’s never been possible to get a good estimate until months after an inauguration. What we do know is that it includes the cost of security for the event, whereas all previous inauguration figures excluded that line item.

Just fearful in general…
January 19th, 2009 at 5:49 pmTracy__5 Says:
True, but I will wager right here and now that it will exceed any previous president by quite a bit.
Probably, but it won’t be triple or quadruple the last total, as they’re baselessly assuming. There are a lot more people attending this one, and every inauguration is always more expensive than the last due to the complexity involved and inflation anyways. But it’s not like something that can be used to insinuate… whatever you’re presumably insinuating.

Yeah much more damage can be done in four years.

They’re called food banks now, ding dong, and they are doing land office business. Get your head out of your ass — if you can.
January 19th, 2009 at 9:30 pmLike so many Americans I’m really looking forward to having a president that I can be proud of once again. These past 8 years, president bush has made me feel embarrassed and ashamed of what our country has become, I almost started to get use to it…
My last words for george “the greatest strategic blunder in U.S. history” and v.p. dick “go f**k yourself” cheney. One thing neither of you will ever have to concern yourselves with for the rest of your lives. No future president will ever call upon either for any advice on anything whatsoever.
The only audience willing to listen to either of you in the future will be the stupid 23%’s, the chickenhawks, the neoconservatives, drug addicts and compulsive liars like that fat lump of $hit limbaugh, and people who don’t think, read or are just plain ignorant. When karl rove helps build that bush library in Texas, be sure to include the photos of all the innocent people who were killed as a result of deliberate indifference (9-11); falsehoods (to provoke an unjustified War in Iraq); or just gross negligence and incompetance (Katrina). That is your legacy, it’s as bankrupt as our country.

I guess you COULD be stupid enough to belive that. I mean you only KNOW what to believe once you are TOLD what to believe.

I respond to whatever I choose. Your stoopid is a bright red target. You arent very bright Timmeh so the way things seem to you is no indication whatsoever of reality. It is easy for me to take time off. I took off for the inaguration. I do enjoy the WWWWWAAAHHHHHHHHH from you though. Its so precious. Such a whiny little victim.
January 20th, 2009 at 11:31 amPoor Tracy. I must suck to be you. Let the jealously go. You are too stupid to make good money. That isnt my fault. Why would I lie to you? As if I cared what you think, and of course I use the term THINK very loosely. I have explained before what I do. I dont feel like a rerun. I make what I make. I COULD make more if money was all I cared about. MORE importantly I CONTRIBUTE. I am a working man which is all I ever wanted to be. You are pathetic if you think how much money you make is any determinant of how valuable you are. I have a good job YOU have a pit of envy and sickness in your heart. Grow up
January 20th, 2009 at 1:07 pmI dont have anything to prove to you and I told you before. I am a freight conductor for the BNSF railroad in Winslow AZ. I couldnt care less what you think or what your friend does. I KNOW how much I make. I wouldnt prove anything to you even if it WERE possible on a message board. You are just jealous and ignorant. You WISH you could make good money like I do. How much I make isnt what defines me anyway. Only someone as shallow and ignorant as YOU would think it was so important you keep bringing it up. I KNOW I dont lie. I also know YOU are an idiot. You SHOULD be more ashamed of being STUPID than not making as much money as you wish you did.
January 20th, 2009 at 6:37 pmStop with the pitiful jealousy. I dont MAKE overtime. I get paid by the mile. If a conductor gets paid overtime then he is on a district that isnt very long. You have to run the miles off before overtime starts. I would have to work about 17 hrs to run off the miles and I can only work 12 hrs at by federal law. What was that supposed to prove. We dont all make the same amounts of money anywhere we work. HERE we make about a hundred k a year a bit over actually. IF I wanted to work every day I could make ten or twenty thousand more a year. That is the FACT. You are so jealous you are desperatly HOPING I dont make that much money but I do. It is a plain fact. It isnt that important but its reality get over it. HERE that is what we make. In Amarillo you can make even MORE going in one direction and a whole lot less in another direction. You are becoming pathetic. I make about a hundred grand a year get over it.
January 20th, 2009 at 7:15 pmNo an engineer here makes about 115 to 120 grand a year. In days gone by the engineer and conductor made virtually the same amount of money. I prefer being a conductor. Our pay structure changed and many of the arbitraries that paid conductors more than engineers went away as we went to a trip rate. We lagged as our last contract wasnt signed for four years. When this contract is up I will make maybe 10 grand less than an engineer. It isnt worth my changing this late in my career. As far as I am concerned if you cant make ends meet on a 100k a year you need to seriously re-examine your lifestyle. Also you seem to think the time means something and it doesnt. I get paid the same if my trip takes six hours and sometimes it takes less or 12 hrs and by law it cant take more. It is the MILES not the time that matters.
January 20th, 2009 at 7:21 pmOk. I explained this before just not in such detail. I dont see this as that important. Here is an example. I get paid twice a month NOT every two weeks THIS half I will make about 4350. Sometimes I get an extra trip or half a trip though it is rare I get make less trips and sometimes I get paid for a contract violation which will pay me an extra half trip in the end IF I dont take time off I average a bit more than 4500 a half.
January 20th, 2009 at 7:26 pmTracy__5 Says:
I dont remember the conversation. The railroad industry has several advantages and some disadvantages to the other industries. It can continue through much more severe weather it can move a huge amount of freight with more fuel efficiency than the others it can also move much LARGER pieces of equipment than either. on the other hand it rarely goes from the door of one industry to the door of a store. So most frieght at some point is on a truck. It takes more training and is a more skilled job than driving not as much as flying a plane. It doesnt clog up the highway system bulk commodities wont travel as fast. It is different in all those ways.
