Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) was taken away from a celebratory congressional luncheon this afternoon after experiencing convulsions. Sen. John Kerry said Kennedy “had a seizure and he’s gone to the hospital.” President Obama told the gathering that Kennedy “was there when the voting rights act passed, along with John Lewis, was a warrior for justice. And so I would be lying to you if I did not say that right now a part of me is with him,” he added. “And I think that’s true for all of us. This is a joyous time. But it’s also a sobering time. And my prayers are with him and his family and (Kennedy’s wife) Vicki.”
This is sad news about one of the greatest senators ever.
January 20th, 2009 at 3:15 pmOur prayers are with the Kennedy family.

Or God’s (I capitalize the name of my God) answering Kennedy’s prayers to live long enough to see Obama (I also capitalize the name of my President) take the oath of office. I might be wrong but it fits at least as well as your belief.
January 20th, 2009 at 3:21 pmAnd my prayers are with Mr. Kennedy.
January 20th, 2009 at 3:22 pmMy thoughts and prayers to Senator Kennedy and his family.
January 20th, 2009 at 3:22 pmWhy is it that, with each great moment, President Obama also faces tragedy? On the eve of his election, he loses his grandmother.
Best wishes to Senator Kennedy and his family. We need you, Lion of the Senate!
And to the unspeakably repugnant trolls here today, give it a rest. No one here cares what you have to say. Try some compassion or just head to Waco to hang with your beloved loser, Bush.

God must not have been too happy with the elections of 2000 and 2004 considering what has happened to America in the last 8 years.
January 20th, 2009 at 3:24 pmOne would think that a God powerful enough to strike down a Senator at a luncheon in order to show his displeasure at the outcome of an election would have had the power to dictate that outcome in the first place.

Back in your cave, troll. Even Senators Hatch and Cornyn expressed their deepest respect and admiration for Kennedy today. You want to whine about what you think your “god” thinks, do it to your own pathetic self.

Then you weren’t looking here on TP because I saw a great outpouring of compassion here at the announcement of Mr. Snow’s illness and at the time of his death.
Again, compassion feels good. Try it sometime.

January 20th, 2009 at 3:28 pmComparing Tony snow to Ted Kennedy is typical of the delusions you wingnuts suffer. Kennedy is known to be one of the kindest people ever among people who have met him. Everyone is too busy worrying about the health of a true American, Sen. Kennedy…
January 20th, 2009 at 3:30 pmi was on the phone with my daughter when i saw, and made special note of it to her, when obama made a special effort to greet both men before he found his own seat… it was emotional…

LTDan,
January 20th, 2009 at 3:30 pmJust slink away.

January 20th, 2009 at 3:31 pmPray for Kennedy & Byrd.
LTDan, at least you are honest enough to admit you are vile, unlike most GOP fascist pigs. I will give you credit for that.
January 20th, 2009 at 3:34 pmTo LTDan and anyone who thinks a just and caring God would strike down a man who has spent the vast majority of his life championing the welfare of humanity, at any time, may that God visit hell.
As a man dealing with his own illness, a man who wished to be present for the inauguration of a beacon of hope, if you can wish him ill or rejoice in the same, you can sit next to that same petty god in hell.

Perhaps you’re right. It may indeed be a sign from God. Maybe He is signaling to the incoming administration that health care must be a top priority.
January 20th, 2009 at 3:46 pmPerhaps the excitement overwhelmed them. The bottom line is that Ted Kennedy is going to show up, even when it’s against what the doctor ordered. Here’s hoping for a full recovery for both Sens. Kennedy and Byrd.
As for the deposed troll, it’s one of our nation’s deepest regrets that your kind was in the seat to steer this country in any direction.
January 20th, 2009 at 4:01 pm“LTdan Says:
The left would rather dismiss you as a troll, then debate.”
Your statement (strictly translated): dismiss the troll then (as in the next step) debate. That’s pretty much what happens on these boards – trolls get dismissed and the adults carry on the debate.
(than: introduces an exception or contrast)
January 20th, 2009 at 4:09 pm(then: after that; next; afterward).
How did this day a great one for the trolls to swing by? They officially lost control of the most visible branch. Republicant leadership became Democratic leadership. The head of the only branch they do control can’t even swear in a president without stumbling.
January 20th, 2009 at 4:14 pmProud
You’re not pressing the right buttons, troll bot. Just what are the inaugural talking points?
January 20th, 2009 at 4:25 pmGod’s speed Ted. I am so happy that he got to witness the swearing in before his episode. It must have been a very emotional day for him.

January 20th, 2009 at 4:33 pmPoor man. It is said by those on the left as well as the right, he is the most productive of all the Senators. I hope he makes it.

And it is amazing how irrelevant the trolls seem these days. I feel nothing but pity and occasional disgust at their comments.
So glad to hear that Teddy is doing better. Last summer many wondered if he would live to see Obama’s inauguration, and yet there he was today, smiling and looking strong.

*ahem*
As a representative of Godless Liberals everywhere, I would now like to officially take this moment to pass on the torch of whining victimization to the far right wing. Their “you don’t like me because my opinion is different,” “you’re quashing my freedom of speech” responses to disagreement and their “I’m only a cruel imbecile because I have some vague recollection that you or others like you were once cruel to me” achievements stand as the high water mark in victim-whining everwhere. January 20th, 2009 at 7:10 pmAnother Chris,
Take a look at posts 11, 20, and 30. They are posts from regulars here who are chastising the nasty posters. Explain that. Or keep cherry picking to justify the hate spewed by your side.
January 20th, 2009 at 7:20 pmI found it so traumatic to learn Ted Kennedy had been taken away by ambulance. I’m so glad he’s going to be alright!
January 20th, 2009 at 7:28 pmBobwurst,
My point was that people on here did say bad things about Tony Snow. And the fact that they get mad when people say bad things about Ted Kennedy make them hypocrites.
And explain posts 7, 23, 33, 52, 55, 57, 59, 72, 82, 89, 92, 94, 102. And those are just in the first hundred. All from people I would consider “regulars” on this site.
January 20th, 2009 at 7:39 pmThanks Another Chris.
We’d all forgotten the 100% wrong prognostications from the Wingnuts back in July regarding the November election.
Like icing on the cake!
January 20th, 2009 at 7:44 pmWhile I hope that Kennedy gets thru this, as a citizen… I do disagree with callling this evil man a great man.
This man, unlike JFK and RFK, is among the worse people we have ever had, and he has proven so with comments like calling those who disagreed with him “Hitler” and many other examples of why he needs to retire.
Byrd, who has been proven to be a hyprocrit who was in the past a top leader of KKK, who fought the CivilRightsAct heavily, and who has since then stated he still wished it failed.
Both are much worse than anything done (except Nixon).
I dont wish them dead, but the country would be better off if both would retire and write a book or something.
I admire and even voted for JFK, but never will support ED, though JFK also was anti-civilrights in the late 1950’s, though for various reasons not necessarily anti-black.

Wow, that’s a pretty weak reason to call someone “among the worse people we have ever had” there, Hitler. What are these “many other examples” of which you speak?
January 20th, 2009 at 8:31 pmThe question that should be asked is did Ted Kennedy come anywhere near Cheney and his wheelchair? By the way what type of pussy is Cheney anyway? He pulled a muscle in his back, he wasn’t paralyzed.
I’ve pulled muscles in my back before, I’ve had a vertebrae lock up on me and have had back spasms and although they were all painful I never had to resort to using a wheel chair.
Seeing Cheney in the wheel chair reminds me of a person going to court, looking for sympathy from the judge or jury by wearing a neck brace.
January 20th, 2009 at 8:39 pmIt’s good to hear that Ted is doing well. I’m glad that some people here were sympathizers. Losing anyone during the inauguration, whether it be Democrat, Republican, or Independent would have thrown an incredibly dark pall on this entire ceremony.

Hey LT, you’re a liar. Here’s what I wrote on the post of Snow’s death. Not surprised to see the way things worked out.
“Out of respect for this man’s family, I’ll hold my tongue though I have PLENTY to say about this man. I’ll hold my tongue and watch for the regressive’s response to Jimmy Carter’s death, or Ted Kennedy’s. We’ll all get a lesson in decency then, I’m sure. Condolences to his family. His children lost a father, not a spokesperson. I have children and the thought of someone cheering my death because of political disagreement is not a good one.
January 20th, 2009 at 8:52 pmshut up Dingo. You’re no better than LTDan.
January 20th, 2009 at 9:21 pmAnother Chris,
And my point is that those who spoke ill were rebuked, just like the trolls here who speak ill of Ted. Why are you defending the trolls and not rebuking those who make you and your side look bad? Do you agree with them? If you don’t, are you too much of a coward to call them out?
January 20th, 2009 at 9:26 pmBbowurst,
I don’t agree with those who speak out harshly against Ted Kennedy in this context. But my point is and has been that when the comment was made that people said harsh things about Tony Snow after he died the response by the people on this site was that they did not. I was only pointing out that in fact they did speak harshly of him and in some cases take joy at his death and that some of those people are regular posters on this site.
January 20th, 2009 at 10:11 pmRepub,

The standard wingnut response – somebody else was a jerk, so that excuses me being a jerk all I want! It holds for political speech, it holds for torture, wiretapping, preemptive invasion of sovereign states and all of the other bad things you do. There is such a thing as moral standards. Standards are what you do not reduce just because someone else “did it too.” That’s why they’re called “standards.”

Or, maybe it was how he didn’t get charged or convicted for leaving the scene? Wrong again, he was. You guys just made that up too.

ElBruce,
Don’t feel like arguing so just read this.
Already have. Any insinuation of foul play is speculation. Case in point: I hereby speculate that you were molesting a child while you typed that. So why should I listen to a child molester?
My point there is that freely speculating to try to make an already-unfortunate incident seem like a crime is a really horrible thing to do. What happened in Chappaquiddick was already a tragedy, just like the fact that you’re posting here was already a tragedy. Having a bunch of bastards “speculate” to make either seem worse than it already was, just crosses the line into foul.
January 20th, 2009 at 11:41 pmAnother Chris Says:
And Laura Bush ran into her boyfriend after he broke up with her. Running a stop sign and KILLING HIM. I say THOSE actions are indicitive of murder. I mean as long as we are going to just speculate about tragedies lets do it to your side too. Then there is that black woman who died shortly after accusing GW Bush of raping her. I say it is susupicious. Lets speculate about THAT. Or maybe we shouldnt be speculating about tragic accidents. Whether or not Kennedy acted scrupulously there isnt any reason to believe it was anything but an accident.
January 20th, 2009 at 11:51 pmNice one, TRoS.

January 21st, 2009 at 10:42 amAnother Chris Says:
Wow El Bruce, is that all you got? Fake outrage and calling me a molester? Weak son, very weak
Let’s try this again, as I don’t seem to have made my point clearly enough. I apologize for that.
My point about speculation was in response to this part from you: “Pay close attention to Kennedy’s actions and his account of the incident compared to the findings.”
See, you aren’t providing any evidence whatsoever of foul play on Kennedy’s part. You’re just “raising questions” and “comparisons” – that is to say, you’re speculating. Just filling in the blanks in your knowledge with the worst possible interpretation you can come up with.
My response was to point out that for you to do so regarding Chappaquidick would be the equivalent of me speculating that you were molesting children. Obviously, such an accusation would be patently unfair. If it’s unfair for me to speculate that you are molesting a child, then it’s unfair for you to speculate that Ted Kennedy is a murderer.
I can’t break it down any simpler than that. If you still can’t follow my logic, have the crying kid on your lap explain it to you.
