After it was revealed that Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R-AK) infamous campaign wardrobe was worth at least $150,000 dollars, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) remarked, “They’ll be donated at end of this campaign. They’ll be donated to charity.” But the conservative blog New Majority reports that the clothes are actually in trash bags at the RNC:
But for reasons that remain mysterious, the clothes remain stashed at the RNC’s Washington, D.C., headquarters. A source close to the issue told NewMajority that the clothes are “in the process” of being donated, and an RNC spokesman corroborated, saying the clothes have indeed been returned from Palin, “inventoried and will be appropriately dispersed to various charities.”
McCain even told the press that one-third of the clothing was “given back.”
.
Gives a new meaning to taking out the trash…
.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:24 pmBut, but, the campaign has been OVER for months.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:25 pmYeah, I’ll use that excuse on my taxes. “Oh, I’ve been meaning to donate all this stuff, that’s why I’m writing it off.” I’m sure they’ll be fine with that.
On a side note, it is a great metaphor for their campaign if you ask me. The whole thing deserved to be thrown in trash bags and forgotten about.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:25 pmNon-story.
Trash bags are a convenient means of collecting and organizing clothing for donation.
I do it all the time.
TP, you can do better than this.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:25 pmBe safe. Spray them for bugs.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:27 pmThe natural kind? Or the electronic kind? This is the RNC after all…
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:28 pmI guess their moral compass is broken, can’t find a Goodwill drop…
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:29 pmNow if the trash bags were sitting outside a trailer this would make perfect sense.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:30 pmPlease TP… give us something more inteligent than this garbage. this is not news. This is news on trool level…
Why don’t you talk about Obama’s lack of aknowledgement of the Palestinian MASSACRE. the US-backed Palestinian MASSACRE! Why don’t you tell us how Obama voted last year to send to Israel all those new and old arms deals which were used against the capitive civilian population of GAZA.
That would be interesting to discuss. To politely discuss and investigate it amongst TP readers.
This Sarah Pallin dress business is like I’m reading FOX news.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:31 pmI don’t understand what McCain was alluding to by 1/3 “given back” Does he mean returned to the store for a refund or something else ?
I really wonder though, if it is better to give her clothes to a museum (the Moosejaw Museum of failed campaigns ?) could be a choice. Or selling the stuff on ebay and giving the funds to charity could work.
Somehow, I just don’t see the typical Salvation Army customer paying $ 200,000 for a dress. Even if the matching shoes are thrown in (unintentional pun for Bush).
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:31 pmDo they know how to spell “goodwill”?

“Non-story.

Me too, but are those designer trash bags?
The devil wore Prada.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:31 pmIs Sarah in that bag?
I think they should be donated to the RNC ‘Hall of Fame’…
…along with all the other empty suits…
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:33 pmOld Goat,
They dont know the word and damn sure dont know the place.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:33 pmOld Goat; Rehtugs can’t EVEN say Good-will without gagging let alone spell it.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:34 pmOkay, Dr. Matt, you have some good points.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:39 pmThey definitely bagged the wrong trash.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:39 pmNow the real story is Sarah gave her old clothes to the RNC. The RNC has to make sure the charties don’t leak out the fact the donated clothers aren’t the one’s Sarah brought with campaign money. I wonder what the Republican supporters think about 150,000 so called dollar clothes put in garbage bags? Many who gave got robbed by Bernard Madoff and might wont some of those things. Each Charity will have to keep the secret that the clothes donated by the RNC weren’t Sarah’s old clothes not the new ones.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:40 pmOn a different note, rumor has it they also have garbage bigs with all SamJoe’s suits, ties, and shirts with buttons that they confiscated to make sure he dressed his part.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:40 pmDr. Hussein Matt Says:
They probably need to be dry cleaned first to remove the Pabst Blue Ribbon and Kool-Aide stains.
Don’t forget the Clinton, er, “Palin corsage”…
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:40 pmThis gives you an idea of what the speed and efficiency of a McCain white house would look like… *shudder*
If the Obama campaign were in charge of that, the clothes would have been auctioned off on the Internet for mad cash some weeks ago.
.
sacopenapa Says:
Why don’t you talk about…
I like to go to sports websites and demand loudly that they post recipes. Some stuff on TP is substantive. Other stuff just gets posted so we can hoot and jeer at it, while jumping up and down like angry monkeys. It’s kinda fun, actually.
.
MapleStreet Says:
I don’t understand what McCain was alluding to…
And you think he does? He had no idea what he was saying for the last six months of his campaign! I’m just grateful that we’re not presently mobilizing to invade Spain.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:45 pmOK, I’ll play along with the silliness here.
That looks like a mighty fancy trash bag in the picture. Is this a stock photo, or is this representative of the actual trash bags holding the actual clothes?
If those are the actual trash bags, who paid for them? Were they paid for out of campaign funds? Was it a proper expenditure? Were they donated? Is the donation recorded and legal? Is there some reason why Glad or Hefty bags weren’t good enough?
It’s true that this isn’t the most burning issue of the day, but it does provide an interesting glimpse into the supposed well-oiled organization and flawless planning of the RNC campaign.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:46 pmI’ll bet anyone $100 that RNC employees have already scavenged through Palin’s cast-offs and grabbed the good stuff for themselves.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:46 pmThe charities better be satisfied with a bunch of empty Hefty bags, because that’s about all they will get.
I sure hope they launder them before donating…this Palin family goes at it like rabbits, there’s got to be a blue dress in there somewhere with the telltale signs of luvvin…

I wonder if they have room for Mrs.0’s stuff, made her butt look big!
__________
Why are you bringing up Jackie Onassis? She’s dead and gone.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:49 pmThere must be some real symbolism in the trash bag, so I will skip the obvious. And McCain telling the press it had been donated, was just repeating things he was told. Just like always. And the lying by the RNC is just like old times.
There are few things you can depend on as you go through life. And the Republicans lying about everything is one of those things.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:54 pmPart of this is a load of crap. She’s been documented, and photographed, even in Alaska, wearing some of the clothing, wel after the end of the election.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:56 pmWindsor is cheap rotgut Canadian whiskey, but our little windsor is cheap rotgut whine.
Flag the little puke on sight please.
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:03 pmAnything remotely connected with Palin is a waste of time/money/resources/energy/effort/humanity, etc……..
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:04 pmMy friends, I want to read Palin’s name one more time, on November 7th, 2012: “Obama reelected in massive landslide, defeated Palin claims William Ayers stole the election”
I fear the loss of brain cells at every mention of Palin.
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:12 pmwindsor Says:
I wonder if they have room for Mrs.0’s stuff, made her butt look big!
At least she HAS a butt you pathetic excuse for a human being!
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:15 pmThe only good reason to bring up Palin is to remind us once again of how lucky we are that McCain lost!
Whew!
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:15 pmIf all the clothes were returned immediately after the November 4th election, please explain how Princess Wasilla was wearing one of her signature $12,000+ outfits when she appeared for old Saxby in December?
Is the GOP even capable of telling the truth? Never mind… asked and answered.
PEACE
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:15 pmFree the Clothes! Free the Clothes!
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:16 pmBag the Hag! Bag the Hag!
Ms. Obama HAS an ass.
windsor IS an ass.
Which one deserves the kicking?

Wow, how very clever to leap from one political party’s disgraceful actions to the appearance of the new first lady.
Work long on that clever comeback, didja?
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:18 pmThey should be donated to the Smithsonian, for a display entitled “The Candidacy of Sarah Palin: The MOST Cynical Nomination In the History of the World…”
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:21 pmLogically, you would think with Sarah’s bucks, she would offer to buy some of those fancy duds. I know if I was allowed to go on a spending spree for all the fancy threads from all the best stores I’d sure as hell want to keep a few, especially after strutting around in front of the whole nation.
Once a hillbilly, alw

Good idea! I think they actually thought they’d be able to get all of Hillary’s supporters by bringing in a woman. I guess that didn’t work out as planned…

Ah yes… T_5…
We knew we could trust you to bring the chilled white whine and cheese…
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:29 pmI tried to think of a response to windsor. I went through and discarded three or four comments, and then I realized the only rational response to that was a flag. It’s inflammatory, completely off topic, and contains nothing of substance.

I shudder to even mention this, but just imagine how much Rush and his fellow wingnuts would bid for Palin’s soiled underwear? Not washing them brings in an extra $100K right there.
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:33 pmI was under the impression they were being donated to “the real Americans” who live in real America….

she looks good.
4 $ $
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:36 pmSure windor, Michelle Obama looked really bad on Tuesday. What planet are you from?
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:54 pmThe bags are to keep the scent as long as possible. Once the clothes are no longer fun to sniff, they’ll be donated.
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:55 pmOh and windsor, Mrs. Obama graduated from Princeton and Harvard Law. I’m sure she loses sleep over you saying her butt looks big.
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:56 pmSo the Republicans now truly are trash diggers.
January 23rd, 2009 at 4:00 pmPalin didn’t give back all the clothing. She has already been caught wearing something from that $150,000 wardrobe long after she said she had given it all back:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/12/01/sarah-palin-still-wearing_n_147520.html
I’m betting she still has a majority of the clothing.

TP, you can do better than this.
Ralph…I think the purpose here is to show that they haven’t given the clothing to charity like they said they would. I also suspect that Sarah still has a lot of the clothing. All we have is their word for it that she returned it. That gets Sarah out of having to declare the clothing on her income tax as a gift.
January 23rd, 2009 at 4:23 pmThis is sybolic of the Republican Party!
January 23rd, 2009 at 4:36 pm“Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) remarked, “They’ll be donated at end of this campaign. They’ll be donated to charity.”
go figure, another lie from a repukelican. like everyone didn’t see through that facade. everyone knows republicans have a bitter disdain towards the poor. the whole “bootstraps” thing and all.
January 23rd, 2009 at 4:38 pmWhile I understand those who think that stories like this lack urgency, they are a welcome diversion. And, I’m all for anything that reminds us of the utterly contemptible crap the GOP has tried to force on our nation.
There is still a loud minority of freaks who think that Bible Spice is: a. A viable candidate for any public office. and/or, b. A victim of the “librul media”.
Any story that reveals her true nature, hopefully, serves to keep her far from any office where she can damage the country as a whole. Until such time as she rises to her full potential and gets barred from public service, she just may be the most dangerous person on the planet.
January 23rd, 2009 at 4:42 pmhey twacie,
long time no see. say, what do you have to say about yet another republican broken promise?
January 23rd, 2009 at 4:56 pmtwacie, was the obama’s clothing bought by the DNC?

still waiting for your response to lyin palin great hope of the waaahhpublican party.
January 23rd, 2009 at 5:12 pmit’s been directly asked to you twice you deflecting coward. your lack of response speaks volumes
January 23rd, 2009 at 5:17 pmso, let’s recap twacie
a) you’re hurt and bitter over failin palin lying
b) you make claims that you can’t back up and expect people to believe it because you said so.
good luck with that
January 23rd, 2009 at 5:25 pmtwacie, let’s draw a conclusion shall we:
the clothes are in trash bags. repukelicans despise the poor. take a guess where 150 grand worth of clothes were going?
they haven’t had time? they have had plenty of time, it’s not like they WON or anything. plus, it’s been two months since the election.

January 23rd, 2009 at 6:40 pmI wonder how many of those outfits Sarah will be wearing on her upcoming book tour. I am still in shock that someone who thinks a bag of M&M’s is literature can score a book deal. Shades of Paris Hilton.
January 23rd, 2009 at 6:42 pmSo THAT”S what $200,000 worth of clothes looks like? Gonna be HARD to recoup much on e-bay . . . although I hear Rush has a bid offer of $25,000 for Todd’s USED silk boxers . . . didn’t want the unopened pack . . .
twacie is fhuny, sad but phunee . . .
January 23rd, 2009 at 8:46 pm“Given back”. What does that mean, that Sarah Palin has $60,000 of the clothes back? Is that how they get around the tax burden? No wonder it is taking so long. Paperwork takes lawyers and lawyers take their sweet time.
January 23rd, 2009 at 8:59 pmI’l bet they’er just waiting for Rudy Guilliani to go through them for his ensamble.
January 23rd, 2009 at 9:45 pmI’d care if the Palin clan were in the bags. Otherwise, eh…
January 24th, 2009 at 12:59 amMichele Bachmann may want some of these clothes. They might be the same size & both reek of skank bait.
