When I was in Iraq for the 1st war a reporter asked me why I was there. I was digging (trying to any way. the ground was rock, not sand) a fox hole and preparing to defend all of Saudi Arabia. I was in country for about a week and I was part of the initial deployment. My reply was from a wide eyed 19 year old who feared nothing and I said as proud as I could, “Freedom. What else is worth it?”.

As for who knew what when, it is very hard to tell. The facts are limiting because we are talking about what was believed. Not one time did anyone offer real proof. It was always innuendo and intelligence suggests or show the pattern. I remember thinking the same thing when I heard it live. It’s like this person I work with at my job. Nothing, and I mean nothing is ever her fault. For the last 6 years that I have known her, she has been perfect. Even when you show her very convincing evidence in her own hand writing, it wasn’t her fault. Someone must have told her what to write and so on. For the most part, this person is a good person, but for whatever reason, she can never be wrong. Is this a Bush type of personality or is it a government thing in general? It is very, very rare when you hear a government agent admit their own errors. Usually we will hear something like the situation is the way it is because someone else screwed up or lied. So, we are at no fault.

I didn’t ask if is was ok, I asked if it was a war crime. I don’t believe this action falls under either of the Hague Convention rules nor in the Geneva Protocol augment. Since then there have been 2 more augments that covered chemical and biological weapons which do not address this issue either. So I ask again, is it a war crime? Is it a crime at all? Could it be some kind of fraud?
