Former CAP senior fellows Mara Rudman, Denis McDonough serving at the National Security Council.

denismara.jpg Special Envoy for Middle East Peace George Mitchell is currently in Egypt, the first stop on his eight-day listening tour that will also include visits to Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, France, and Britain. Yesterday in a meeting with his national security team, President Obama praised Mitchell as “a talented and dedicated public servant.” Also at this gathering were former Center for American Progress Senior Fellows Mara Rudman, who is now serving as executive secretary at the National Security Council (NSC), and Denis McDonough, who is the NSC’s director of strategic communications. Previously, Mara was deputy national security advisor to President Clinton and worked for the House Foreign Affairs Committee. McDonough was a close adviser to Obama during the campaign, served as a foreign policy adviser for Tom Daschle, and also worked for the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

While at CAP, both Mara and Denis were instrumental in launching Middle East Progress, which interviewed Mitchell in November 2007. Sign up here to receive the project’s Middle East Bulletin.

More qualified people being brought on board. What a pleasant change!

Excellent! Finally, intelligent, progressive voices and ideas playing an important part of an administration – what a 180!

I’m thrilled that the CAP is so well represented in the new administration.
CAP is an actual ‘Think Tank’, whereas for some thirty years now US policy has been inordinately influenced (and controlled) by right wing Reaction Tanks like AEI, Heritage and dozens of others.

It’s great to know that there will be some real scholars, honest intellectuals and qualified subject matter experts on board with the new administration instead of self-appointed hysterical ideologues.
This is change I can seriously believe in.

Yay for you, CAP. The anti Heritage Foundation you ain’t, but you’re getting there. :-)

I am hoping that the US policy toward other countries will change under an Obama administration but after watching him appoint Rahm Emanuel and Hillary , who’s foreign policy idea’s he criticized heavily during his campaigning for the democratic nomination , I am having my doubts .
According to Noam Chomsky , we will probably not see nearly as much change as we might like .

ALso this morning I am reading that Ahmadinejad is demanding an apology for our previous misguided foreign policy towards his country , which I believe is LONG overdue .

In the words of Mr. Chomsky from the article I posted above …It’s just sort of accepted in the United States that we’re an outlaw state. Law doesn’t apply to us.
