I don’t know if Rush is racist or not. But, I believe many of the racist comments that people object to is his distain for people being treated differently because they are different.

I think his parity of Barack the Magic Negro, originated because the phase was coined by a black columnist for the L.A. Times. I believe his issue at the time was ‘why can this columnist get away with saying something non blacks couldn’t.

Well you are wrong. I assume you mean parody except it wasnt a parody it was an excuse to call Barak a negro over and over and NO it wasnt coined by the columnist. I read the term used by Spike Lee at least a year before that column came out. He was complaining about a type of character like Bagger Vance or the character in the Green Mile that is black and supernatural and exist to serve the white man. I think his argument was strained but it was a legitimate race relations discussion. What Limbaugh did was flat out racist and it is just silly to accept his self serving argument that he was just doing what the columnist did because that is not only dumb it is an outright lie. The columnist WAS using the term as it was meant to be used even if HE also strained logic to make his argument. Rush just used the term to call Barak a negro over and over and there was NO legitimate point to it.

That was only this election. Have you considered that black people have been driven away from the Republican party in droves by all of the racist behavior of Republican mouthpieces and elected officials? The party has control over what kinds of people it attracts, through its positions and behavior. Although it has made a few overtures at attracting black people, those are quickly undermined by a wide variety of slights and clueless behavior.

I don’t know too much about the other guys, but I can definitely assert that Clarence Thomas is an “Uncle Tom” based on his long and distinguished career as one. But none of that absolves Rush from the things he says on the talky-box.

The assertion that there is a double standard, based on no evidence, is a racist assertion. There is no other reason for it than Rush’s own cognitive filter.

I already discussed this. There are appropriate contexts in which certain terms may be used, and you should know that to lift them out of those contexts amounts to a racist insult. The phrase “magic negro” as used in the LA times article was employed in the appropriate context. It was not appropriate the way it was used in that song. In fact, the use of the term “negro” in the original context intentionally points out the racism inherent in the use of that literary device.

Rush just said it because he thinks its funny to say “negro” a lot, and he is ignorant enough to believe that the LA Times article gave him a free pass.

NO—-they use such characterizations to gain a certain percentage of votes—-those of the racists. “Vote for liberals and your children will have to go to school with Blacks.” “Vote for liberals and Blacks will take your job.” “Vote for liberals and a Black man will marry your daughter.”

They realize it is best to use code. That way they can get the votes of racists and not lose the votes of people who oppose racism.

Maybe you’d better educate us then. I was under the impression that Rush played the song over and over on his radio program, thus giving it exposure to a concentrated audience perfectly suited to eat it up.

The point is, b-cup, that he thinks they’re being held to a different standard because he’s focused on their race. If there was some demonstrable disparity of treatment in either case, you might have an argument. But both statements are patently absurd.

Obama was elected president, we’re in a national crisis, and conventional wisdom says to support our new president, who happens to be very popular. The pressure to support him and to see him succeed has nothing to do with his skin color. Yet that’s all Rush sees.

Why does this have to keep getting explained? The column in question discussed a well-known literary device and suggested Obama might be filling that “wise and serving black man” role for many. The phrase “Magic Negro” is a useful one in criticism and not a simple racial epithet.

Is this the sense in which the parody song uses the term? No. It uses it to cast ridicule and scorn on the Democratic candidate for president based strictly on his skin color.

In other words, B-cup, the columnist used the term responsibly, the “parodist” simply used it as a punch line.

I think the comments set Rush back. I think they hurt the Republican party, because of what Wayne says above. And they definitely fuel Liberals.

But, to the heart of the thread, is he personally a racist? I think there is enough evidence from his personal relationships that cast doubt on that assertion.
