Armey to Walsh: ‘I’m so damn glad that you can never be my wife.’

Today on MSNBC’s Hardball, Salon editor-in-chief Joan Walsh and former Republican House majority leader Dick Armey engaged in a heated exchange on Rush Limbaugh and his recent controversial comments. Walsh repeatedly condemned Limbaugh’s remarks, saying that conservatives should stand up to the hate radio host. Toward the end, the conversation turned sexist when Armey said he was glad he wasn’t married to Walsh:

ARMEY: I’m so damn glad that you can never be my wife because I surely wouldn’t have to listen to that prattle from you every day.

WALSH: Boy, that makes two of us sir. That was really an outstanding comment.

ARMEY: That’s what I’m talking about — she’s making a political malarkey here.

Watch it:

Update Politico reports that New York Times columnist Bob Herbert told host Chris Matthews that Armey "was so far out of line in the last segment with his sexist comments, and he owes Joan Walsh and your viewers an apology." Matthews called the comments “overboard” and apologized on Armey's behalf.

Why would he be thinking about marrying her in the first place? How does that even cross his mind?

  2. KayInMaine says:

Oh good. I just posted a link to this video of Armey drunk on the air (hell, he wasn’t sober!) and being a sexist Neocon Pig in the House-Stimulus thread two down from here.

  3. KayInMaine says:

Joan Walsh has class and if Armey would put down the tequila bottle long enough, he might be able to see that!

And when confronted with facts, what did Armey do? He became the typical right wing asshole that we’ve all come to “enjoy” online for years now!

  4. mk3872 says:

FINALLY some people are hitting back at Limbaugh. Everyone has been so affraid of him and it is so refreshing to finally see some pushback.

  5. margerine says:

Especially since the defense is so poor. If this is what conversations with Republicans is going to debase to, I don’t think there’s much to worry about.

When you actually attack their arguments it always seems to get down to petty insults… And I don’t think the average viewer is into that.

  6. katy says:

… engaged in a heated exchange on Rush Limbaugh …

shouldn’t it be “ABOUT Rush Limbaugh…”?

for a second there i thought they were on his show…

  7. celtic cynic says:

Dick Armey has been feeding at the public trough so much, so long, that he doesn’t realize he’s eating his own shit.

  8. jb says:

Dick Armey….I thought he was already engaged to Lindsey Graham.

  9. dabubba says:

Why am I not surprised that Mr. Mathews did not have the courtesy or the cajones to let DICK Army know that his inane , sophomoric , sexist comments did not help him or his position . I cracked-up listening to ex-congressman Army talk about not taking politicians seriously …… this was McCains economic answer … Dick Army has no shame .

  10. tarazan says:

Armey is trying in vain to sell his attractiveness on MSNBC,playing the wanted and the desirable.

I wonder if he is related somehow to Joe The Plumber..

  11. ralph the wonder llama says:

Why do Republicans seem to consistently lunge for the lowest-common-denominator insult when things aren’t going their way in a debate?

Which is pretty much all the time, by the way…

  12. tarazan says:

It is very entertaining to see Dick Armey playing the picky and the choosy.

    ___________

Because they’re little more than schoolyard bullies w/ no real argument. “Do what I say or else” hardly counts as “policy”. When the pseudo-authoritarian schtick fails, which it seems to be doing w/ increasing regularity these days, that frustrated bully comes out, and ALL they have to run on is rage an petty insults. Thank Dog more and more folks are pushing back, FINALLY.

  14. normalasf says:

He reminds me of my Republican father during one of his drunken tirades. “That pretty little lady should keep her mouth shut and get in the kitchen and fix him some dinner!!”

    A@@hole.

  15. fletc3her says:

I’m really glad Dick Armey isn’t my gay lover. I’m not sure he’d be all into it, but I know I wouldn’t.

  16. Mathazar says:

  27. wiley says:

“I’m so damn glad that you can never be my wife…” ??!!

WTF? I can’t get used to this. This is a very bizarre statement. I’ll bet the dismissive “prattle” set a lot of women’s teeth on edge.

  28. CParis says:

I’m betting that Mrs. Dick Armey is waiting at home…ready to slap the sh*t outta him.

  32. lokidog says:

    Kay, from a previous thread:

    KayInMaine Says:

Did everyone see Dick Armey drunk..?

Sure did. Emailed that *sshole Matthews for giving a forum to such a bigot and scumbag.

Matthews did say Armey “went over the line” in a following segment, which means MSNBC’s lines and computers had to be smoking from the incoming anger.

Armey is one of those people that you’d just punch for GP if you ever met him. Like a Hannity. They just seem to need to be hit.

  33. biggreenpea says:

holy tasers batman, that was unbelieveable!!!

did dick armey just do that for real? right when you think you see the last of the “just ignore rush or coulter or…” argument you get broadsided by the politics-is-inane plank. this from a guy who showed a clear disrespect for that chick, i mean woman/journalist/editor liberal. as the poison stew rush has brewed seeps into our political dialogue. we the americans who still care do need to keep talking about why rush is bad or wrong for the function of democracy. no man gets to hide behind his job, especially not when you’re making what he makes. this whole genre he is part creator part inheritor of is plain and simply toxic and i think we saw a little of it in armey’s display.

  34. Badmoodman says:

former Republican House majority leader Dick Armey

    – - Ugh, it must be getting time again for Tom DeLay to slither onto Hardball.

  35. dpatrick says:

Did anyone see Tweety’s next guest? He said that Dick Armey owed an apology to Joan Walsh, and I cheered. (I was really mad when I heard that and I was ready to write to MSNBC. Why all the Republican pundits anyway?) I can’t remember the guy’s name – black, journalist, maybe? Anybody else see it?

  36. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    dpatrick,

That very correct gentleman was Bob Herbert, one of the best.

  37. Jim Wolf359 says:

Dick Armey”s “comments” is presicely why the wingnuts and whackjobs cannot be ignored. To ignore them is to leave the field of public opinion to them. That cannot happen.

    lokidog Says:

    Kay, from a previous thread:

Thanks so much, Lokidog, for sending an email to MSNBC speaking your mind about Armey being drunk and for being a sexist Pig!

  39. nwmuse says:

By trying to stereotype Walsh in such an insulting and demeaning way, he was just trying to dismiss her (and you notice he didn’t have anything of his own to offer). I wonder if he has any idea how bad, how small, how unintelligent, chauvinistic and outdated he made himself look…

Damn Joan Walsh for not knowing her place… (/snark)

  40. nwmuse says:

Armey says: “I’m so damn glad that you can never be my wife..”

All I can think is “who the hell would WANT to be your wife..?”

  41. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    nwmuse,

I agree. I could see that attitude that Archie Bunker exemplified, only not as funny.

As for who might want to be his wife? Oh, I don’t know, Jeff Gannon, maybe?

  42. Exit Stage Left says:

Dickhead Armey will be the next one to sub-let Larry Craig’s men’s room stall.

  43. nwmuse says:

Wayne, probably someone who still goes by that wonderful “Fascinating Womanhood” manual… Someone who knows her place..

  44. Badmoodman says:

Armey says: “I’m so damn glad that you can never be my wife..”

    – - Walsh should’ve shot back, “If I were your wife you’d immediately be a widower.”

  45. McWars says:

Poor little dick. The House has changed a lot since his time — a female speaker, a healthy democratic majority, fellow hacks ousted. Remember when the GOP faced so much trial-and-error in choosing a speaker to replace Gingrich during the 1990s? Scandalous candidates were all they had to choose from, Armey included, until they settled on Hastert, who was ousted in scandal himself.

  49. McWars says:

    From Wikipedia:

He replied “If I were in the President’s place I would not have gotten a chance to resign. I would be lying in a pool of my own blood, hearing Mrs. Armey standing over me saying, ‘How do I reload this damn thing?‘”

This calls to mind this famous exchange:

Lady Astor to Churchill “Winston, if you were my husband I would flavour your coffee with poison.”

And it reminds me of the National Lampoon parody (I wish there was a link, but I’m sure there isn’t) on “The Wit of Winston Churchill”, which parodied his many famous exchanges. That particular one went:

Lady Astor to Churchill “Winston, if you were my husband I would flavour your coffee with poison.”

Churchill: “Madam, if I were your husband, I’d beat the living shit out of you.”

  51. Miro says:

Oh my! [flutter flutter] didn’t THAT segment just sparkle with late-middle age “sex-zuality”! That will REALLY boost the ratings. If the oldsters keep acting like this there will be another outbreak of “live fast die young [before you're 30]. Yikes! Turn the channel.

  52. McWars says:

Does anybody know what’s up with the DTV delay act? Did the House not like the deal brokered in the senate or are they opposed to any delay in general?

  53. rimhotep says:

What a total dickhead. This man’s personal integrity now resides in the toilet. Joan Walsh has more class in her pinky finger that this sexist pig has in his entire body. Old typical Republican think – women are inferior and just prattle.

Fact is that Joan Walsh is heads and shoulders above Armey in terms of intelligence.

I’d say that Matthews pulled a typical ‘Matthews’ on Armey and just let him $hit in his pants in front of america.

    The old codger’s toast.

  54. Shayne says:

    Wayne A. Schneider Says:

Actually, it makes sense. They really do think this is “winning”.

I saw nothing of the like. I did notice, however, that Dick Armey set his own clock back to the 50s and promptly got his ass handed to him, with the outrage still pouring in.

  62. LibertyLover says:

Dick Armey is a Texas politician. I’m glad I don’t live in that state anymore.

  63. Shayne says:

Joan Walsh is a political hack glezzery and Limbaugh is a genius right. You people must all be retarded.

Obama has no experience doing anything? I believe he got at least 7 million more votes than McCain and that includes all the votes you GOPers stole again.

I suspect your getting ready to spam another thread so I FLAGGED already because I’m sick of your BS.

  69. dbadass says:

can you please stop with the lmao. It is so ninth grade. Anyway, are you okay with #78? I think we could really dig deep into the mechanisms of your inner being and what motivates your continued presence at this place you alledgedly despise.

Belgium is quite nice. You may be onto something. Why do those who wish to wrap the flag about themselves always b itch about the big bad government of the greatest nation? I find that weird. 71. McWars says:

    glezzery Says:

    1. Barack The Magic Negro
    2. Taxes are for the little guys
    3. Union busting
    4. Largest company CEOs bringing in an average of $10 million dollars compensation in the midst severe recession.

Choosing from the above, which war was started by a democrat?

    And Rush is right.

Far right. Committed to a mental institution right.

He has no experience doing ANYTHING that gives confidence he knows what he is doing!

What is he not doing that a president normally should do? He’s consulting with lots of people and preparing to make big choices. Take for example, he consulted today with the JCS on their turf. He’s letting people serve their purpose. Do you want the president, and therefore the country, to fail?

In the end, who cares what Joan Walsh OR Rush Limbaugh thinks!?!?

The 53% who voted for Obama, or eight million more people than McCrazy.

    Are they changing YOUR minds?

Are they adding some much needed weight to yours?

  72. dbadass says:

He just somehow couldn’t stop himself in time!

  81. nwmuse says:

    Hi Shayne!

I was really impressed with Joan Walsh tonight. She kept her composer during that string of insults and unprofessional conduct of Armey. She didn’t deserve that kind of treatment, but she impressed me most with how she handled it.
She was the only person contributing anything of value to the discussion.
Armey owes her an apology. A public one.

  82. Curlew says:

The thought of being Armey’s wife and having to screw that jerk on an infrequent basis should have been enough to make Joan Walsh take a shower after the interview.

  83. jb says:

Maybe Armey thought he was doing a vodka/viagra commercial. That fat old loser is pathetic. Doesn’t he know that nobody likes a bully, especially an ignorant one?

  87. labman57 says:

  92. Jim Wolf359 says:

Joan Walsh showed a level of composure and level headedness that was astounding given the assualt that Armey was throwing at her. Total Class! Anyone know if Olberman or Maddow jumped on this? I didn’t get time to watch them tonight.

  93. Shayne says:

The only thing Armey did was make Rush not the worst person TODAY.

  94. dbadass says:

  95. Shayne says:

  98. nwmuse says:

Jim Wolf359, I would guess he will make Keith’s “Worst Person” tomorrow, and I can’t imagine Rachel not talking about it tomorrow.
I still can’t imagine what Armey was thinking.. He just had to be out of material and the first thing that comes to mind is attack and condescend. It was pretty disgraceful. I really don’t remember seeing anything quite like that before.

  109. nwmuse says:

  120. ElBruce says:

    glezzery Says:

Who here is going to say Palin is NOT hot?

Sure. In fact, that’s kind of the problem I have with her – she’s attractive and stupid, and when she runs for high office, she completely brings out the misogynist in me. Along with everybody else.

But you know, if you really tried you could probably find someone even hotter and even stupider to be the “new face” of the GOP. Heck, you could replace the Republican primaries with a swimsuit competition or a wet t-shirt contest. Because all Republicans know that’s the best way to pick people who have to make critically important decisions for the nation, right? It’s not like you care about intelligence or education or any of that crap, right?

glezzery, you are a human insult to your own party, if not humanity at large. A walking slap in the face. You may not mind so much being a drooling imbecile – I’m sure you’re used to it by now – but it’s just plain unfair to represent the entire GOP as being nearly as moronic as yourself.

Well… in rhf’s defense, she did claim she could handle foreign policy, w/ a country like Russia, because…

“They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.”

I was wondering, when Palin said she supported Ukraine and Georgia joining NATO, she did understand that people where talking about the Georgia over in Asia, and not the one next to Florida…

  124. Joe the Philosopher says:

    Dear Mr. Armey,

I have the distasteful assignment to tell you that Texas crackpots are no longer welcome at the party. However, they are holding their own gathering down by the river. Tom DeLay, Alberto Gonzales, Phil Gramm, and of course, George W. Bush will be there. You should too. John Cornyn has been invited but said, “Shouldn’t I get kicked out of office first?” Maybe you can convince him to come and bring his harmonica.

    Thanks,

Gov. Beverly Perdue (D-NC) is successful, one of 50 Governors, a former businesswoman, and most importantly a devoted mother and family person.

    What’s your point?

She’s also WAAAY smarter than Palin. Regardless of whether you judge her to be “hot” is something I’m sure she’d easily disregard in light on her numerous achievements.

I’m sorry you’re getting hit so hard. This winter has been pure misery. Stay safe and warm. :)

Ah, glezzery struck again, I see.

Back on topic (and I hope that I’m not repeating anyone), I wonder how many viewers’ jaws dropped right about the same time as Joan’s did. What an incredible and telling display of incivility on Dick’s part. It’s too bad that Tweety didn’t really say anything about it until Bob Herbert called for an apology from Armey.

Dude. Seriously. What is it with you and ACORN? Do you have the slightest clue what you’re babbling about? Do you even understand the first thing about the innuendo you’re intimating?

I am pretty sure that you are unaware of the fact that this package does not include a single dollar for ACORN. I am also pretty sure that you are unaware that ACORN itself is not under investigation for any voter registration fraud. I will lastly add that I am pretty sure you are unaware of what ACORN even stands for, let alone what they do.

So I will ask you, politely, to cease showing up here making odd comments about the president and ACORN. That does not mean you are being banned, it simply means that unless you can actually provide a coherent, fact-based argument (we’ll worry about proving it later) that what you say is even remotely true, then there is no reason to say it. But if you have something relevant about another topic on another thread about that topic, then you are free to post an intelligent comment there.

  176. Max-1 says:

Maybe she’s giving him some time to sober up, call her up, and apologize to her profusely. (Please be sober when you do it, Dick. There’s nothing worse than listening to a drunk say he’s sorry over the phone.)

  178. SnoBird says:

    Wayne,

Of course he hae understands the innuendo, that’s the whole point, he knows exactly what he’s innuendating and that it has no basis in fact; however, ACOR screwed up, he’s playing on that failure.

ACORN screwed up and fueled GOP fodder. ACORN screwed up in a large way, it didn’t help its cause in any way. Obama would do well to back off support of ACORN. ACORN screwed itself.

We need similar organizations, we just don’t need ACORN. Like Gov I swear like a sell out who swears like a sailor and am unfit to govern, ACORN is tainted.

  179. Wayne A. Schneider says:

With respect, Snobird, ACORN didn’t “screw up in a large way”. Some workers they hired to collect signatures submitted fraudulent registrations. As I am sure you are aware, when any organization conducts a voter registration drive, they are required to submit ALL registrations, even the ones they know to be fraudulent. (As you also know, I’m sure, this is to protect people from having their registrations thrown out by the people collecting them because they registered with the wrong party. It happens, and it’s illegal.) And since you know all of this, then you are probably also keen to the fact that ACORN even identified the fraudulent ballots when they turned them in, along with ones that they thought might be suspect. You also know that they are not required to do this, as it is up to Election officials to do any verifying that must be done. As for ACORN being “tainted” (we’re hearing that word a lot lately), the only ones who claim that are the right-wing liars who are distorting the truth.

There are already LOTS of organizations that help conduct voter registration drives, and that is simply one of many, many things that ACORN does. There also groups that try to register people into only one party, and they sometimes have a problem behaving legally.

Please stop believing the right-wing talking points. They are notoriously inaccurate.

  180. SnoBird says:

To correct, this won’t go over well, but belligerent Chicago politics don’t fly. Jesse Jackson may be disappointed that he won’t be the first black president, but get real, he would never garner enough white votes to win. He’s all about black power. Yeah, white folks are really going to vote for that.

Obama presents the rational voice of reason. He wasn’t a vote for black, white, women, men or any religious denomination, he was a vote for reason.

The economy is in shambles and Bush trashed the Constitution, Obama is a Constitutional Lawyer at the University of Chicago, the first black Chief Editor of the Harvard Law Review, Americans weren’t looking for a black or a white, but for the most competent person to do the job.

He beat Hillary Clinton, the first woman compenent to do the job. Many may argue, but in my opinion, the first woman competent to do the job, yellow, black or white.

Racists need to burn their pointy hats and understand that Obama is the best shot they have at getting a job, sendiing their kids to college and not dying of a treatable disease.

When your mom or child gets cancer because of that toxic waste dump in your back yard, you’ll be glad.

  181. ElBruce says:

    Wayne A. Schneider Says:

So I will ask you, politely, to cease showing up here making odd comments about the president and ACORN.

That’s been their method from the beginning. Insinuate in passing, don’t back it up, and move on. Use “ACORN” as an epithet in the midst of a more substantive rant. Move on, hit and run, but also have thousands of people doing it all over the web at the same time, so it gains the appearance of a true thing, even though nothing at all has actually been said.

The reason that they can’t make an actual claim about what’s wrong with ACORN is that then that might be checked and invalidated. However, nobody fact-checks vague innuendo.

They’re also playing the “could be” game with this particular claim:
    1. $X is allocated to some areas in which ACORN works
    2. ACORN could win some bids to do some of that work
    3. Therefore, $X is being allocated to ACORN! [1, 2, "could be"]

This “could be” method, by the way, was also used to argue that Saddam had WMD’s, based on entirely aluminum tubes and a burning desire in his coal-black heart.

It raises the question, why are they picking on ACORN at all? All ACORN does is help poor people defend their rights and register to vote. The only ones who would have a problem with that would be those who believe that poor people should have no rights and should not vote. This therefore is nothing less than overt class warfare, and it has been going on for a long time.

  182. ElBruce says:

    SnoBird Says:

Jesse Jackson may be disappointed that he won’t be the first black president, but get real, he would never garner enough white votes to win. He’s all about black power. Yeah, white folks are really going to vote for that.

I disagree strongly with this characterization.

The main distinction between Jackson and Obama has been that Obama is basically letting whites off the hook for the past 400 years. Gave ‘em amnesty for racism, if you will, in exchange for their votes. That’s fine – in fact it’s brilliant – because it actually worked to leap race relations forward by a large margin, as nothing else has since ‘68. Jackson and other minority activists or his generation were more likely to require an accounting and admittance of all of the injustices of the past first. That’s where we’ve been stuck for the last few decades, and that’s the logjam that Obama broke.

  183. SnoBird says:

    Wayne,

With all due respect, when an organization goes out so collect signatures, they are required by law and by public decency TO INSURE THAT THE INFORMATION THEY OBTAIN IS LAWFUL.

If you pay any street thug by the signature, what do you think that you are going to get?

If you have no measures in place to insure the accuracy of the information obtained, you guarantee its inaccuracy.

If you intend to hold public office, your duty is to ensure that fraud is not inherent in your process.

Illinois politics at its finest. You defend it, I abhor it.

  184. Jane E. Schneider says:

ElBruce, I think Wayne finally went to bed. As shall I. Goodnight!

  185. SnoBird says:

That would be “by buying the signature” . . .once, twice, three times . . .

  186. SnoBird says:

When you do it that way, what will you get? Apparently Gobernor Rod . . . twice.

Clearly, you must be so proud. . . . If only Obama’s seat were still for sale . . .

Armey says: “I’m so damn glad that you can never be my wife..”

    - – Walsh should’ve shot back, “If I were your wife you’d immediately be a widower.”

Actually, Walsh should have said, “If I were your wife, I would immediately be a widow.”

  189. ElBruce says:

    SnoBird Says:

With all due respect, when an organization goes out so collect signatures, they are required by law and by public decency TO INSURE THAT THE INFORMATION THEY OBTAIN IS LAWFUL.

If you pay any street thug by the signature, what do you think that you are going to get?

If you have no measures in place to insure the accuracy of the information obtained, you guarantee its inaccuracy.

If you intend to hold public office, your duty is to ensure that fraud is not inherent in your process.

Lots and lots of organizations use paid volunteers to gather signatures, both on the Left and the Right. In fact, pretty much every signature gathering effort I’ve ever heard of does. Also, these are not “street thugs,” but that’s a very cute characterization.

The measures that they have in place to insure that the information is lawful is to look at the signatures that were gathered very carefully before turning them over. They don’t even have to do that, since it’s actually not their job to determine which are lawful and which are not.

If they took that job away from the election officials, then they could potentially rig the pool of registrations. Therefore, they are required by law not to throw out any fraudulent ones, but rather to turn in all of the ones that they collect, whether they think some are fraudulent or not. That is the law governing this, and it’s actually a good idea when you consider that some Republican voter registration drives in fact were throwing out likely Democratic voter cards, in violation of the law.

The way you’re looking at it, they’d have to guarantee that 100% of the signatures they got were lawful. What if someone signs illegally? What do they do then? Throw out all the cards they’ve collected? What exactly do you expect? I really don’t understand by what process you expect to guarantee 0% fraudulent signatures. So much so that if I were an election official and your organization handed me a list, I’d audit the hell out of it.

    .

    SnoBird Says:

Illinois politics at its finest. You defend it, I abhor it.

What exactly does this have to do with Illinois? Why do you feel the need to vilify an entire state, rather than specific guilty individuals? Should I start making cracks about Texas or wherever?

  190. SnoBird says:

    ElBruce,

While I definitely appreciate the struggles and accomplishments of African Americans over the past years, I have to say, that as a white woman who has strongly advocated the cause of African Americans to suddenly become considered an adversary is offensive.

Do you honestly believe that the Civil Rights Movement and the election of a black President could have happened without the support with a great many, if not the majority of whites . . . you are so wrong . . . unlike you, many whites are truely color blind . . . we want what’s best for this country . . . that does not include feminists with a sexist agenda, or people of color with an agenda or white folks with an agenda.

    Our agenda is one, America.

It’s amazing that Armey tries to stress stepping away from juvenile delinquency and focussing on serious discussion, then snaps that sexist remark. And his snarky prattle under her talk doesn’t help.

LOOK. Republicans, Democrats, and pundits alike, STOP BEING SNARKY. Stop talking over people. Stop taunting policies. Stop being impolite and stubborn when the issues are being discussed. Start using some CLASS to cover politics.

Americans are not asked to, much required to , tell on, inform on or otherwise rat on other people. That is un-Constitutional and against the law in America.

No one is allowed to tell lies to help others break American law, but if you’re not breaking American laws, you are fine, no one can put you in jail for it.

Police, prosecutors and judges in America are black, brown, yellow and white, your color makes no difference. Do not get all crazy on me for stating the truths of our systems.

naive and sheltered from reality I guess…..not the same country I live in at any rate.

MSNBC needs to think about why it took two commercial breaks, and then the next guests’ opening comment about Armey’s behavior, before the host had anything to say about the despicable exchange. Chris Matthews has a reputation for letting sexist talk slide. His employers and their lawyers need to have a chat with Chris about that.

  214. ElBruce says:

ARMEY: I’m so damn glad that you can never be my wife

“Can never” seems a bit strong. Even if they both repulse each other, that’s not the same thing as an impossibility. Is Armey implying that he’s legally a woman?

    .

    SnoBird Says:

    ElBruce,

When you’ve got Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck signing hundreds of returns, you have a problem.

I don’t live in Disney Land.

A total of a few hundred across the entire country. That’s out of many millions collected. All were identified by ACORN as being likely fraudulent, so that the electoral board could invesitage and/or disqualify them. I repeat: ACORN identified all likely fraudulent registration cards they received. In fact, in every Republican investigation into the ones ACORN didn’t mark as likely fraudulent, they just ended up harrassing and intimidating a legitimate real voter.

I’d be more concerned with groups who claimed that 100% of the signatures their volunteers collected were legitimate, and not subject to error or individual perfidy. Wouldn’t you? I mean, that’s vastly statistically improbable.

It’s worth mentioning that there have also been zero people found to have turned up at the polls and actually voted using one of those registered identities. That would be the zero that’s shaped like a doughnut and which refers to a nullity.

    .

    SnoBird Says:

We’re both on the same side, but you guys are undermining our legitimacy. Stop the nonsense.

Nothing illegitimate occurred. The cons lied about everything to do with ACORN. Stop believing their outrageous claims.

You seem to be interested in progressive concerns and that’s nice, but this is like saying “I’m all for liberalism, but still a little concerned about Obama being a secret Muslim.”

    .

    republicans hate facts Says:

What a J*CK*SS LIE! They are REQUIRED BY LAW to REPORT ANYTHING THEY SUSPECT might be wrong, but they are also REQUIRED BY LAW TO FILE SUSPICIOUS REGISTRATIONS!

Actually, they’re not required to report suspicious registrations. They do so because they’re nice like that, and actually give a crap about doing democracy correctly. The reason that R’s have been able to pick on ACORN at all is because they do report their fraudulent registrations. With the other groups who don’t, there’s no data to base any such claims off of, because any fraud has been swept under the rug. When dealing with the GOP, no good deed goes unpunished.

However, it’s worth mentioning yet again that you are correct about how they are required by law to file 100% of the registrations they receive, even if they know for a fact that some are fake.

    .

    SnoBird Says:

No one is allowed to tell lies to help others break American law, but if you’re not breaking American laws, you are fine, no one can put you in jail for it.

Are we going to have to get into it about the disproportional treatment of citizens by our criminal justice system based on race? Because I don’t know where you live, but it ain’t the America that most folks live, especially racial minorities. Especially when you get pulled over by the cops.

  215. Fred says:

    SnoBird Says:
ACORN screwed up and fueled GOP fodder. ACORN screwed up in a large way, it didn’t help its cause in any way. Obama would do well to back off support of ACORN. ACORN screwed itself.

We need similar organizations, we just don’t need ACORN. Like Gov I swear like a sell out who swears like a sailor and am unfit to govern, ACORN is tainted.

    and then says this:

    SnoBird Says:
BTW, in order for me to be your adversary, I would not be your ally (i.e. common friend). If I were your adversary, I would not be friendly toward you, I would be mean to you and you would find me offensive and call me an idiot.

It is you who considers me your adversary. I was trying to be your friend.

kiddo, you are one of two things, a fraud or an idiot. Know your facts before you join my team otherwise you risk being tagged as a concern troll…..

    Acorn is not the problem.

The bullfrog says heck no, I know your kind, you will sting me.

The scorpion tries logic on the bullfrog saying “If I sting you then we will both surely die”

The bullfrog sees the logic and agrees. The scorpion jumps on and away they go across the water.

About half way across the scorpions eyes light up and he stings the bullfrog fatally.

The bullfrog, with his last breath says “Why, why did you do it, you have killed us both”

The scorpion says “because that’s just the kind of sob I am”

Keep the pressure on! Don’t let this Dick get away with sexism…don’t allow him to play the victim card when he will claim that he’s the victim of a vicious liberal smear campaign. They ALWAYS play that game, and it’s about time we not let him get away with it.

  222. curious says:

Matthews cannot apologize for anyone else. Armey is what he is. A man with no class. He is after all a Republican. That means he is automatically sexist. Not to paint with too broad a brush. I have NEVER met a Republican man that did not want a woman at home, in bed or in the kitchen.

This kind of remark is the last resort of a man who cannot compete on an equal basis without falling back on that tired old rhetoric. This is because he is a tired old man. The thing speaks for itself.

  223. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    curious,

Matthews doesn’t have to apologize for Dick Armey’s behavior, he has to apologize to his viewers for not more forcefully admonishing Armey when he said what he did. He tried to cut Armey off after letting Walsh have her say, and he let Armey make one more statement. I’m thinking Matthews looked at him and thought Armey would apologize, but he didn’t. He made one more pitch for his failed views.

Matthews should have immediately apologized to his viewers for having a rumored-to-be-drunken Armey on in the first place.

  224. Geezer says:

republicans hate facts and bentley1, please have a heart and do not use my nick in context with that troll glezzery.

On another note when hacks like Armey are on television it exposes their disgusting traits and make the republican dinosaurs even more hated than they are now. In their case familiarity breeds contempt.

In the exchange Walsh won on several levels, in her lucid arguments, and in the contrast between the two in basic civility, humanity, common sense and common courtesy. Nothing better to get rid of cockroaches than to pin them in a spotlight and watch them scramble around while you get the sprayer.

Class act DICK! keep up the good work…..

This is the blah blah blah of politics. No one will address the fact that now the mind set of so many civilians is “my goverment will take care of me”,,,no matter what. The world is now in a full scale crisis, because of this attitude. Limbaugh might be a blow-hard, but what he is really trying to tell the world is,,,quit depending on the goverment to be your daddy or big brother and figure it out. The U.S. has been the care-giver in the last 75 years to other countries and has been justified in terrible offenses to these countries. Everyone has blood on there hands.
Those of us that work hard, pay our taxes, abide to laws and have pride in our work ethics our tired of hearing what the gov. is NOT doing for us. Polictics IS just stupid philosophy and should be ignored. I’m tired of both extreme sides trying to tell us how to live.

From your post I can tell education including spelling was not high on your priorities. “Blah Blah Blah of politics”? Evidently it is something too complex for you to understand. You show us you do not have the intellectual frisson to connect the dots, so you dismiss it as stupid. I guess simple answers for simple minds must be your speed.

I have always worked hard, paid my taxes, etc, but please do not add me to your mythical ranks of self reliant ditto heads tho you see as making it on your own, how do you get to work? Do you get there on roads you built yourself?

The world is in this mess because right wingers and their voodoo economics have caused the crisis. Yes the last eight years there was rampant welfare, but it was extended to the top 1% of the population of the United States and their corporations. Phil Graham’s policy mirrored the same talking points the people who caused the Hoover economic melt down. It’s called history and you will find it in a book. You should have at least read it in public school, or did you educate yourself single-handed as well?

  227. texana101 says:

guess i deserve that for trying to zip something out in such a hurry:)
i guess what i’m trying to say is that we have all forgoten that we are ALL Americans. i don’t know when it happened or changed, either during bush or clinton…..nixon?,,,,but we forgot that we are all fighting for the same cause. yes, the top 1% have manipulated some horrific crimes.and they should be crucified.
but then look at how much of our taxes go torward welfare, medicare, etc…
when we allow a 32 yr. old lady to have eight more children, via fertile intro….and already have six at home, no husband, living with mom and daddy….it’s a crime that makes me shake my head. and the “educated”—”doctors” say there should be some “concerns”….give me a break. it’s the rich wanting more money,,,AMA,doctors…etc. it’s all a vicious cirlce of greed,,and creating havoc for hard working Americans.
but then that’s my humble opinion…..
