One would think that he would be ashamed to make any comparison between the work habits of the last President Bush and President Obama. President Obama goes into the Oval Office to do the work of the President of the United States not to look like he’s doing the work, in between vacations.

I’d like to see this jester’s last boss dressed appropriately for his new calling… in an orange jumpsuit. After all, prison is the appropriate reward for betraying the constitution and committing crimes against humanity. I think a case can be made for those charges. If President Obama lacks the stomach for that part of his responsibility, there are a bunch of judges in den Haag who are experienced in the proper procedure, for dealing with the former criminal heads of failed-states. We’ll see.

On the scale of relative importance, I have to say that what one wears to work figures several notches above what one actually does at work. For example, if an investment broker takes your money and invests it in a Ponzi scheme but wears smart well-tailored Brooks Brothers suits, you will have no choice but to smile, give him more money, and hope you’re not the last tier in the pyramid. Similarly, if your president respects the oval office by wearing a jacket and refraining from twiddling the twaddle of a plump, willing intern, the country will be most forgiving when that well-dressed president leads the nation into a trillion-dollar war against a nation because of weapons that nation doesn’t actually have. And even when the president disrespected the people of New Orleans by taking off his shirt and then rolling up his sleaves for a photo op, we all knew that this was justified, because this was a symbol of getting work done, something that, as we all know, is hard to do while wearing a jacket.

I found Card’s argument to be misleading. Just because Obama permits “Business Casual” (which is dockers or slacks, belts, lace up or loafer style shoes, rolled up shirt sleeves while working and sports jackets during work, in a work approrpriate way, IS NOT dressing down like in a lockerroom.

There’s nothing wrong with having Obama arrive in shirt and slacks, sleeved rolled up for the work-a-day thing, with a suit jacket hanging on the back door, with an appropriate tie.

If you’re a file clerk… perhaps jeans and polo shirt is appropriate. The right dress code for the right job, at the right time, for meeting with the appropriate people. That sounds SO MUCH more reasonable to me.

Uber-formality and blind regard for whatever Cheney says, is so passe. Let’s permit the Bushies to fade out of consideration on any subject, including fashion sense, like leisure suits and gold medallions. No nostaglia. No reminiscing. Just donate them to the Salvation Army and be done with them.
