Loyal Bushies Create Bush-Cheney Alumni Association Website To ‘Help Build A Lasting Legacy’

Even before President Bush left office, he and his loyal Bushies were hard at work shaping his legacy, comparing him to Abraham Lincoln and claiming his failed policies were smashing successes. Work on his presidential library has also been increasing in recent months.

The newest installment of “George Bush is a wonderful person” is now online: the Bush-Cheney Alumni Association website. All Bush employees, appointees, interns, campaign donors, and volunteers are eligible to join. The site’s mission is to be “a forum in which alumni can stay connected and help build a lasting legacy for President George W. Bush and the Bush-Cheney Administration.”

The site contains a considerable amount of hagiography, with the highlighted “Bush Record Documents” compilations called:

– The Bush Record: Praise For President’s Accomplishments

– The Bush Record: More Praise For President’s Accomplishments

– The Bush Record: Praise Continues For President’s Accomplishments

Many of the articles were written by conservative columnists or former Bush aides. A look at the site:

These loyal Bushies have also set up several Facebook pages, including “Bush Cheney Alumni,” “Bush-Cheney Administration Alumni,” “White House Advance – Bush/Cheney 2001-2009,” and “Thank You President Bush.” Users on those sites have left comments such as: “Is it too soon to miss them?” and “Got a kiss from W yesterday at his farewell ceremony at Andrews :o(.”

There’s an exercise in creative writing! Short too.

  6. misshusseinmolly says:

So far the Bush legacy (besides leaving our country and our reputation in shambles) appears to be a circle-jerk of deluded suck-ups.

Fine. Let them have their little snow-globe. If they’re contained there, perhaps they won’t get in the way of those of us trying to clean up their mess.

Bush and Cheney would be remembered for a very long time if they were convicted of crimes.

  15. spencers mom says:

Yah, that’ll work! With Obama’s disapproval rating half of what Bush’s approval rating was when he left office, it appears that many of the loyalest of the loyals have jumped ship.

The more crap that is uncovered, and it’s a crapload of crap, the harder it’ll be to airbrush history.

    PEACE

I didn’t think you could polish a turd and then the Mythbusters did just that. The new saying is, once a turd, always a turd, polished or not.

  17. dickdata42 says:

The Bush/Cheney administration will have an enduring legacy. The Iraq invasion can never be undone – the destruction could be repaired in 20 years, but people will remember the deaths for at least 40 years. Same for New Orleans. The Republican party has gone from a national party to a regional party, and shows signs of making their situation worse by turning right, becoming the party of Southern white men and Southern white married women. But their most enduring legacy would be one or more war crimes trials. The US committed war crimes in WWII and Vietnam, but there were no trials. This time there probably will be.

  18. Marie says:

That may prove to be very convenient gathering names for witnesses in the domestic trial for treason, and war crimes internationally.

  19. DNFP says:

    help build a lasting legacy

Sorry folks, but even a pile of shit hermetically sealed will eventually, always decompose, rotted with mold.

    Better to simply focus on his true achievements;

    1. catching a perch
    2. clearing brush
    3. falling off mountain bikes
    4. surviving two known assassination attempts

    Heckuva job, Dumbshrub!

  20. tarazan says:

No alumni association,no matter how good it is will erase the damage Bush did to this country and abroad.

This attempt to rewrite Bush and Cheney’s history will not do it.

  23. 5th Estate says:

Ah, the old Abe Lincoln comparison! Let’s see now…

    1)
Lincoln constitutionallysuspended Habeas Corpus because of rebellion, made that suspension public, and then restored it.

Bush developed an entirely separate ‘legal’ system under his control, lied about it and it still exists.

2)Lincoln engaged in a war against those who seriously threatened the whole of the United Sates, and prevailed.

Bush engaged in war against enemies that DIDN’T threaten the whole of the US in as significant way and left the war unresolved, after 5 years, to his successor.

3)Lincoln’s emancipation of African-Americans was a matter of principle rather than actual practice, but it was a start.
Bush ( and the GOP) did absolutely nothing to address let alone redress inequality for any significant group.

On these point alone, most touted by the Bush cheerleaders, I can’t find any connection between him and Lincoln.

  24. 5th Estate says:

    Oh, I forgot….

    4) Lincoln was assassinated for winning the war against division and liberating American slaves, Bush had a shoe thrown at him for replacing one form of oppression with another in a foreign country.

    Nope, still not the same.

  25. telestai2 says:

5th Estate –delicious debunking of the “Lincoln connection.” President Lincoln may have suffered from acromegaly, according to some studies of ailments from the past; Shrub DEFINITELY suffers from a**hole-my-golly!

  29. nanlichi says:

It will take years of hard work to scrub this pathetic shrub’s shit stains out of the fabric of our society. The first step has to be accepting the reality of the damage this lazy POS caused, covering it up with a facade of gilt isn’t going to help us recover.

  30. Doc Rock says:

They had eight years in power to build a legacy and they built one of . . . torture, illegal wiretapping, crony capitalism, and the greatest criminal conspiracy in the history of the United States, setting us on the road to banana republicism!

  31. shaker o salt says:

That’s pretty pathetic when someone’s legacy is so bad his friends see the need to pump up the image in such an overt way. It’s akin to Charles Manson’s friends putting up a website that says, “He’s not so bad, really!”

  32. Mosaic says:

They treated Americans like moronic children while they were in power, they continue to think we are morons out of power. The Bush Crime Family insults never let up, what an outrage!

I would be terrified to belong to this group. Just imagine, if my ass-kissing wasn’t up (down) to to standard I might get an invitation to go quail hunting with Deadeye Dick. I would also be afraid that the membership rolls would be obtained by the Justice Department or War Crimes Commission and I would possibly end up in Disney Gitmo, riding the waterboard.

Not batteries. Cheney’s heart runs on the trapped souls of sacrificed children.

  39. curious says:

They spent the entire Bush years lying. So they figure they might as well get the liars web site up and running. They never finish with lies. It is like a kind of perpetuity of his administration. Or like the old Eagles song Hotel California. “You can check out anytime you want but you can never leave.”

They will never leave. Not really, just like a bad meal that keeps coming back.

  40. Zooey says:

Users on those sites have left comments such as: “Is it too soon to miss them?” and “Got a kiss from W yesterday at his farewell ceremony at Andrews :o(.”

These people need to be hospitalized.

  41. ElBruce says:

What’s with all the kissing? Gonzo was gushing about getting chimpy smooches too. Does Bush get drunk and make out with just anybody who wanders into reach?

They can’t stop. The bigger the whoppers grow, the louder the music they’ll have to face if they ever slack off. So they just keep going faster and faster and faster…

It’s the same reason we were stuck in Iraq so long. Remember them saying how it would “disembolden the troops?” Basically they were pointing out that withdrawing from Iraq would constitute admitting that we never had a reason to be there in the first place. Of course, the fact still remains that we never had a reason to be there in the first place, but “staying the course” just delayed them having to face the fact. Meanwhile, real people were really dying.

Now they’re in some kind of liar limbo, where they’re going to have to keep lying to themselves in perpetuity about things that are going to become increasingly moot as Obama corrects these situations.

  42. Daddy-O says:

Only one appropriate response to this bit of news:

    ha ha

Don’t forget the Segway. Make sure the Segway has its own exhibit, including the telephoto montage of him falling off!

  43. KRMS says:

Yes, he made mistakes, just as those before him and just as those behind him will do the same. It’s a thankless job after all. History will exonerate W for making some hard, unpopular decisions in tough times. Obama is making one of the same mistakes as Jimmy Carter in regard to Iran. A recent AP news article reported Iran laughing at us and calling us weak because Obama now wants to “talk”. The Iranian President went on to say “the sooner the Great Satan changes it’s way of thinking and gets in line with their way of thinking, only then can progress be made.

  44. EugeneDebs says:

If you bought into that talking point you have lost all touch with reality. He LIED to take us to a war of aggression. Only warmonger idiots think our military attacking other countries is the only club we have in the bag. You have to think we are politically weak and our arguments worthless to buy into that stupidity. Bush is a liar and a fool. Try to rewrite history all you want. His legacy is secure. History will show at BEST he was among the worst presidents of all time and more likely THE worst president of all time. You can deny reality till the seas dry up and the stars burn out they wont change the reality

  45. dlemex says:

With all the talk of Lincoln, I thought that I would look up some of his quotes and I found this one:

What is a conservative? Is it not adherence to the old and tried, against the new and untried?

    Speech, 27 February 1860, in R. P. Basler (ed.) Collected Works… (1953) vol.3, p 537

I think it fits very well.

  46. Keith says:

Maybe they can setup Administration Alumni Associations at the federal prisons they will be attending.

  47. Keith says:

Lincoln was a leading opponent of the Mexican War. He said it was US aggression.

  48. wiley says:

Invading a country, killing one million people innocent people, making refugees of four million, and making five million children orphans is a mistake?

Authorization of torture is a mistake?

Suspending habeus corpus is a mistake?

That makes wife-beating and murder is an oopsie.

  49. cowboyneok says:

Ready to puke, folks? There are signs popping up in my neighborhood in Dallas that read, “Welcome Home George and Laura!” They are usually planted in a McMansion’s yard… The signs should also read, “We thoroughly enjoyed the Halliburton War profits, and tax cuts for folks like us!”

  51. Wang111 says:

    Speaking of George W. Bush:

George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism (indicated in my blog).

George W. Bush did in fact commit innumerable hate crimes.

And I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed other hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention.

Many people know what Bush did.

And many people will know what Bush did—even to the end of the world.

    Bush was absolute evil.

Bush is now like a fugitive from justice.

    Bush is a psychological prisoner.

Bush has a lot to worry about.

Bush can technically be prosecuted for hate crimes at any time.

In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy.

I am not sure where I had read it before, but anyway, it is a linguistically excellent statement, and it goes kind of like this: “If only it were possible to ban invention that bottled up memories so they never got stale and faded.” Oh wait—off the top of my head—I think the quotation came from my Lower Merion High School yearbook.
