Senate GOP’s ‘stimulus plan’ costs 3.5 times as much as Obama’s.

This morning, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said that President Obama’s recovery package, priced at roughly $819 billion, is too expensive. GOP “members” believe that they can pass a “very robust” stimulus at a cheaper price, he said:

Most of my members believe that we could pass a very robust stimulus for less than the amount currently before us. We have been throwing figures around like it was paper money. We are already looking at, before we even do this, at over a trillion dollar deficit for this year. We all agree that we need to do something, but I don’t think we should not just completely act like the amount is irrelevant.

Watch it:

But McConnell’s cheaper plan doesn’t exist. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) is pushing the Senate GOP’s only alternative, “American Option: A Jobs Plan That Works.” A new Wonk Room analysis finds that DeMint’s plan will cost $3.1 trillion over ten years, more than 3.5 times the cost of Obama’s:

Not surprisingly, DeMint’s plan consists of permanent tax breaks for corporations and lowering income tax for the wealthy. For the Senate GOP, it seems that deficit spending is permissible as long as it is done via tax cuts for the rich.

Way to go GOP! You’ve got a sure winner with that one!

You know, since this whole problem was caused by ridiculus spending and running up the deficit to give tax breaks to the rich and large corporations, obviously the solution is to give tax breaks to the rich and large corporations…

These guys are starting to remind me of Saddam Hussein somehow. Particularly the South Park version.

It’s so inconvenient for the corporations and the uber-wealthy to have to hide their money in Cayman Island bank accounts. Let’s cut all of their taxes to zero so they can be close to their money.

Last time I checked, President Obama was not a licensed electrician. What he could possibly accomplish by personally travelling to Kentucky is a mystery to me.

However, he did declare a state of emergency in Kentucky and Arkansas immediately following the winter storm.

And he’s trying to get Congress to pass a stimulus package that would invest in a better electrical grid that would prevent a winter storm from knocking out power to millions of people, but some people think that the powerless people of Kentucky would be better served by tax cuts.

Now, if Obama allows his cronies in to Arkansas and Kentucky and takes advantage of the disaster to ethnically cleanse these two states of their white populations and move in low-income African-Americans, you’ll have a point. But that’s not going to happen.

Does obama hate white people? I remember that someone made a statement that bush hated blacks because he didn’t get to New Orleans for 4 days after the hurricane.

Actually, the complaint was that not enough was done by the government, the National Guard wasn’t mobilized quickly enough, and there wasn’t enough follow through. I always thought having the President physically go there or fly over a disaster in this day and age was ridiculous.

    From CNN:

National Guard troops continued to go door-to-door Monday morning, checking on families in the areas worst hit by what Gov. Steve Beshear called “the biggest natural disaster that this state has ever experienced in modern history.”

The storm has been blamed for at least 16 deaths in a crisis authorities expect could leave people without power for “a couple more weeks,” he added.

Obama is promising larger, deeper tax cuts for 95% of the population. A few percent will see no change at all. The 1% who doubled their wealth in just eight years? Time to pay the piper.

The Southern states were originally a part of the Union before trying to secede. It’s not is if they existed as states and were forced into the Union originally.

And yes, if you’re going to mention what the Federal government is doing to help people in Kentucky, you should realize that a State of Emergency declaration entitles Kentucky to emergency Federal funds to help with the crisis. That option would not exist if Kentucky were not a part of the United States of America, as you would prefer.

“Tax cuts, especially temporary ones, and fiscal relief to the states are likely to create fewer jobs than direct increases in government purchases.” As Mark Zandi of MoodyEconomy.com illustrates, the tax cuts so often sought for by the GOP actually do far less than what had been hoped.

Lump sum rebates actually put a mere two cents of stimulation back into the economy, with across the board cuts offering only three cents over each dollar of benefit. A cut in corporate tax rates does do better but by only thirty cents on the dollar. You can actually gain nothing by accelerating depreciation.

While the GOP points to the need for businesses to operate in a low tax environment, and this has been well documented, does not directly create jobs. The shareholders are pleased that the company they have invested in can operate with less tax burdens on the profits but then, these same shareholders rejoice at any cost cutting measure including mass layoffs. So J.Davis, are you a Libertarian who wants to “smoke dope and get laid”? Or are you a TROLL in democrat clothing.

  80. MoonElf says:

awwwww…the rich are getting really hit during this economic downturn…and they’re not used to having things not go their way. TEE-HEE! So they take some auld lang syne trips on their corporate jets, manage to spend millions of dollars celebrating the Super Bowl, and send SOS signals to their shills like chinless McConnell and Do-Do DeMint and Rush Limpballs. I only hope the Dems won’t cave on this one. If the Senate doesn’t support Obama’s plan, it means it’s just going to be business as usual in DC. I hope, hope, hope Obama and the Dems won’t let that happen.

  81. barfly says:

    John Kerry Says:

I doubt the figure but please tell me what the Obama “stimulus” bill would stimulate besides cow flatulance!!

It stimulated you enought to pinch off another lamebrained comment.

    Mission Accomplished!

  82. barfly says:

    J.Davis Says:

You might be taken a little more seriously, if you didn’t insist on using the name of a traitor to the country.

    Just a suggestion, mind you…

  83. shoeless says:

    J.Davis Says:
    ——————————————————————————–

Why do y’all always bring up the WBTS? Let talk about all the borrowed money hussien is gonna waste on paybacks!

What exactly did we get of value from the $10 trillion borrowed by Reagan, Bush Sr. and Bush Jr.?

    J.Davis Says:
    ——————————————————————————–

he and his party will be able to tyrannize the minority section of his own countrymen for decades!

Which minority has it’s own section? Is there some roped off area just for you dumbass redneck wingnuts?

  84. barfly says:

Maybe that’s the way it is where you live, but not here.If somebody comes in my house and points a gun at me,they are dead, period.

And if it’s a cop, say goodby to your freedom. Or didn’t you know that cops sometimes enter, before identifying themselves?

  85. belac says:

Or didn’t you know that cops sometimes enter, before identifying themselves?

Except in this case it was a cop who stayed in the Police Station and didn’t leave fast enough when the crazy neighbor declared that Police Station his property… you’d really go down for that one J. Davis.

  86. belac says:

And he was not a traitor to your country because he was not a citizen of your country.

Really?!? Then how in the Hell did he get into West Point? Or the Senate? Someone was asleep at the switch there…

  87. belac says:

Belac ,you have only heard one side of this thing till I started talking to y’all haven’t you?

Put it in a pamphlet… if your logic is to remain suspended in the 19th century- you should at least have the courage to distribute your message in the 19th century way…

  88. JohnnyRussia says:

Courtesy of Mitch McConnell, more voodoo economics from the party that brought you that pile you just stepped in…

  89. ElBruce says:

    Tweedster Says:

How about some sort of side-by-side comparison of the governments response to Katrina versus the response to the ice storm last week?

Remember when Bush was complaining that if he had landed in Baton Rouge people would be mad at him? Apparently J.Davis also thinks the only thing a President can do about a crisis is to show up personally.

    .

    J.Davis Says:

“STEALING THE LAND – you know like GOVERNMENT FORTS and then SHOOTING AT US while doing it!”

Are you a Native American? No?

For the love of Pete, quit whining about the Civil War, or we’ll send troops down there and do it again just to shut you up.

Seriously, you’re single-issue “South will rise again!” fetish is the most bizarre thing I’ve seen here. At least RaptureReady’s singleminded obsession with butt sex is also shared by a number of biblethumpers today. But you might as well be whining about orbital mind control lasers for how popular or relevant your opinion is to today’s issues.

Besides, you weren’t alive during the civil war. You were born and raised in the United States of America.

    .

    J.Davis Says:

Let talk about all the borrowed money hussien is gonna waste on paybacks! If he can spread enough around to all the right people, make a bunch of illegal criminals into citizens, and kill the 1st amendment,he and his party will be able to tyrannize the minority section of his own countrymen for decades!(or till his policies lead to the implosion of the country)and he will be able to make a killing in the mean time!Boy!ain’t life grand!

If you replace 1st with both 4th and 5th, you just described the Bush legacy in a nutshell.

    .

    J.Davis Says:

If somebody comes in my house and points a gun at me,they are dead, period.

But they’ve got the gun pointed at you, so that doesn’t make sense. Do you have the power to kill people with your mind?

    .

    J.Davis Says:

    Nope,I’m a States Rights Conservative.

To quote the late great Michael Palin, you’re a flippin’ fruitcake is what you are. You don’t get to secede from the U.S.A. It is not allowed. There is no provision in the Constitution for seccession. Also, states don’t have rights, only individuals do.

    .

    J.Davis Says:

He was not a traitor to our country,he was our President. And he was not a traitor to your country because he was not a citizen of your country.

You don’t get to have your own country. It is not allowed. There is no provision in the Constitution for seccession. If you want to do so, you are invited to leave the land owned by the U.S.A. and start one somewhere else, on somebody else’s land.

    .

    J.Davis Says:

belac,he was a citizen of the State of Mississippi,Mississippi was a party to the compact known as the United States. When Mississippi withdrew from the United States,Davis responsibility to that govt. ended. Belac ,you have only heard one side of this thing till I started talking to y’all haven’t you?

Missisippi did not have the right to “withdraw” from the U.S.A. It is not allowed. There is no provision in the Constitution for seccession.

  90. pete says:

Um, ElBruce, Michael Palin is still very much alive.

  91. ElBruce says:

    pete Says:

Um, ElBruce, Michael Palin is still very much alive.

Obviously, I was referring to his predisposition for tardiness.

  92. dbadass says:

    millions for bees and fish..

Do you have any idea how important these two things are. Shall we start with the bees? See the thing is that most of the plant based nutrients you survive on reguire these little fellows to move their gametes about. And don’t even get me started on ocean based proteins…

  93. ElBruce says:

The GOP’s other stimulus plan is invading Iran.

  94. Hythloday says:

“In short, this tax program will increase our wealth far more than it increases our public debt. The actual burden of that debt–as measured in relation to our total output–will decline.”

    - John F. Kennedy, January 24, 1960.

To say the Republican alternative will cost more than the Demoncratic bill is disingenuous or simply ignorant of the difference between the arithmetic effect of tax cuts and the economic effect. The arithmetic effect ignores all economic incentives and effects of a tax cut that the golden child Kennedy recognized over 40 years ago.

  95. 1ChanceOnly says:

Good ole boys can’t help themselves…They whine when the money goes to help the middle class…so they try and use the rules of the Senate to block what the People really want. Let’s just line them up and shoot them all. Or better yet let’s send them to China so they can destroy their economy.

  96. Hythloday says:

All I was pointing out is that this study provides no evidence that a tax cut would not increase (or decrease for that matter) revenue. Any analysis of the costs of a tax cut should at least consider what, if any, the tax cut would have on revenues. To think that a tax cut will automatically reduce revenue shows an utter lack of knowledge of economics. The issue, once that calculation is made, is whether such a cut would be offset by revenues. If it would not increase revenues more than the cost, fine then the cut is not in the country’s best interest. But to dismiss it out of hand without evidence is disingenuous. Even Keynes admitted that tax cuts can increase revenue beyond the cost of the cuts themselves.

I think everyone can agree taht 91% was too high. There is probably agreement that 70% was still too high. The question is whether we have found the marginal tax rate to maximize tax revenue. Obviously, there is some point in that rates too low will not properly cover expenses. I do not subscribe to lowering marginal rax rates to that level. I do not believe that that analysis has been undertaken — to determine the optimal level of a marginal tax rate to optimize revenues.

Until that analysis is done your ad hominem attacks against me and generalized statements about everyone in my “party” show nothing more than you are incapable of entertaining reasonable discourse about the subject, have no understanding of basic economic principles and using anger and these attacks to mask it.
