Obama Justice Department Re-Hires Attorney Fired By Goodling Because Of Lesbian Rumor

In October 2006, Leslie Hagen, who was working as the liaison between the Justice Department and the U.S. attorneys’ committee on Native American issues, was informed that despite her “outstanding” job performance reviews, her contract would not be renewed. In April 2008, NPR reported that the Justice Department was investigating whether Hagen was fired after a rumor reached former Justice Department official Monica Goodling that she was a lesbian.

When the DoJ Inspector General report on Goodling was released in July 2008, it concluded that Goodling was motivated by Hagen’s perceived sexual orientation and “that Goodling’s actions violated Department policy and federal law, and constituted misconduct.”

Last night, however, NPR reported the good news that Obama Justice Department has re-hired Hagen for old position:

Last year, the Justice Department posted Hagen’s old job again. The department conducted a national search. Applications came in from around the country. After several rounds of interviews, Hagen eventually won the job.

The paperwork makes it official as of Monday, Feb. 2. Hagen now has her old position back, but this time it’s a little different. Her contract no longer comes up for renewal every year. Now, the job is permanent.

NPR’s Ari Shapiro notes that “it is not a perfectly happy ending for Hagen” because “nobody official from the department ever apologized to her for what happened” and she still owes thousands of dollars in attorney fees that the Bush Justice Department refused to pay.

Hagen’s rehiring is only the latest move in an effort by President Obama and new Attorney General Eric Holder to provide a “a clean break with the past policies of the Bush administration.” Not only does Holder say that the Department is “no place for political favoritism,” but he is also expected to embark on “a broad doctrinal shift in policies” from the Bush administration.

Liberals, like Jesus, have empathy for poor people, Daryll. Only selfish fake “Christians” behave as you do by hoarding your money and looking down on those less fortunate. Hell has a special circle for hypocrites, Daryll. You should take a harder look at yourself.

    _____________________________________________________________

So you believe in “every man for himself”, eh? How very CHRISTIAN of you! (not!)

But just for laughs — how is a person who has no health insurance becaus he doesn’t have ANY job despite months of looking for one supposed to get a “second or third job”?

I don’t know if you read the news much, but there are far more job seekers out there than there are jobs. Until we find a way to create a few jobs, this is the way it’s going to be for awhile.

But it’s not your problem, is it? Not your problem if people die in an emergency room for a problem that could have been prevented with proper care. Not your problem if people lose their home and live in the street because medical bills wiped out their ability to pay for their mortgage (and this can happen to people who DO have insurance!). Not your problem if people who are out of work and/or homeless drag the rest of the economy down because they have no money to spend (oh, and the crime rate tends to go up) — oh wait, that COULD be your problem. The domino effect can catch up to you, so you might not want to be so smug.

    That poor fetus…

Leaving aside the question of who knows they’re pregnant that early, there is this:

When you are two weeks pregnant, you’re still not actually pregnant yet; although this is an ideal time for you to conceive. It’s also a good time to discuss pregnancy issues with your doctor. Your uterine lining is thickening, and your body is preparing to release an egg for fertilization. When you are “two weeks pregnant,” you may experience symptoms like fatigue and breast tenderness, due to normal hormone changes that occur at the time of ovulation.

All of that “your flesh is vile” crap comes in the later New Testament. That’s excluding the Gospels (Matthew/Mark/Luke/John) which are the only parts in the NT that actually relate what Jesus said and did. Furthermore, most “evangelical/fundamentalists” actually believe in a bunch of things that aren’t even in the bible at all, but come in through Augustine, Calvin, the “Left Behind” books, etc.

    .

    nanlichi Says:

Hoodathunk, I am obviously not an expert on Christianity (some of my best friends are Christians!) and I have heard this separation of the New T. and Old T. to put distance between the vengeful God of the Old and the more peaceful and benign teachings of the New. Now comes the but part…BUT didn’t Jesus acknowledge and validate every whit of the Old T.?

    The Jews say no.

Here’s a significant difference: Judaism views most of the Old Testamant as being stories – this happened to this guy, that happened to that guy, whatever – except in the very specific places where a law is handed down from God to everybody: “Thou shalt/not.” That part they take completely seriously. Christian “fundamentalists” take anything that anybody said or did and extrapolate rules and prophecies from it. Which is why you’ll see them posting out-of-context stuff as if it was from God to us, when it’s usually actually one person talking to another in a very limited situation. So you won’t see a Jew, say, suggesting that a disaster was caused by God because people were sinful, because those OT instances are viewed as isolated instances. With the fundies, it’s wide open, and you can extrapolate pretty much anything you want. The more creative the better.

Personally, I think that if someone wanted to call theselves a “fundamentalist Christian,” they should throw out everything but the four Gospels and stick to those. The OT is background, and the later NT is just commentary by bishops of the nascent Catholic church, and should carry no more theological weight than Rick Warren’s book.

  92. ralph the wonder llama says:

Y’know, I always saw Daryll as self-deluded Christianist (well, truth be told, not always — for a long time I was convinced he was just an internet performance artist putting us all on…) but now I see what a really hateful human being he is.

    Really hateful.

    It’s kind of ugly.

  93. WellstonesGhost says:

“All I wanted to do was serve this president” Monica Goodling,

an Oral Roberts U grad like Michele Bachmann MN06 and Ted Haggard, Bush2’s 3rd wave coach, is still NOT in jail. In fact she is engaged to a RedStateBlog co-founder. Gruesome. White and pastey is not in. Don’t miss the wicked commentary here.

  94. Nevar says:

    “Really hateful.”

It is that exact contradiction between the theology Daryll espouses and the comments he makes; that suggest to me he is simply a clever con artist.

  95. wiley says:

    I think I’ve got Rapture Ready’s formula:

    socialism = communism = fascism = Islam = terrorist = Satan’s Fantastic Army = gay

Sort of what like Constantine did at Nicea. “Ok, boys, I’m putting together an empire here. Give me a book I can do it with.’

I do agree with you though. And I did apologize. The Jews I know are real rational decent folks. Like the Christians who avoid the hate speak.

  97. Nevar says:

    Gotta keep those urinals secure…..

  98. Nevar says:

    Circular logic is so entertaining.

  100. Nevar says:

My apologies. Mike McConnell, not Mitch.

You didn’t say Mitch McConnel the first time, o thou font of false witness…

  101. dbadass says:

    Hi Rapture Ready;
How are you? Still all nudie and such? Doesn’t it bug you that that bullshit cold no snacks arial ascention never happens? I would be pissed if I was you. Somebody done there fooled you with that whole crap

  102. Nevar says:

You really give true followers of the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth a bad name, Daryll.

You portray a self-serving promulgator of greed, bigotry, and discord.
Which I believe to be your intent.
    Which makes you truly evil.

  103. barfly says:

I guess this Daryll bashing is symbiotic: it gives the rest of the posters a stress-relieving punching bag, while allowing D-bag to indulge his persecution complex.

But I am a sadist, and so, refuse to strike him.

  104. barfly says:

I would be pissed if I was you.

They keep moving the ETD farther into the future. Just Daryll’s luck, it’ll happen a week after he’s dead, so there’ll be no empty suit at the job as evidence of his ascention.

  105. Bozo The Neoclown says:

RaptureReady Says: “I apologize, I had the day off to celebrate my promotion.”

Ah heh… It’s a bit awkward that I have be the one to break this to you: when they send you home, that’s not really a “promotion.”

I’ve often thought that TP trolls have a masochistic streak. I’ve tried, but I can’t really stick it out over in Right Blogistan, so I can’t really understand what makes them keep coming back for more over here.

  107. barfly says:

    From the ‘08 article:

    [. . .]

‘Even Worse Than Being a Democrat’

Goodling’s conversation with Scott focused on whether Republican Party loyalty factored into her hiring decisions. But by all accounts, Hagen was a GOP loyalist.

So, what was Goodling’s problem with Hagen?

The Justice Department’s inspector general is looking into whether Hagen was dismissed after a rumor reached Goodling that Hagen is a lesbian.

As one Republican source put it, “To some people, that’s even worse than being a Democrat.”

There’s that big republican tent! Doesn’t matter how fervently you support them, if you’re on the lesbian list.

  108. barfly says:

I’ve tried, but I can’t really stick it out over in Right Blogistan, so I can’t really understand what makes them keep coming back for more over here.

They are working on their rhetorical kung fu. Most days, it’s more like kung pao.

    backup seems to fancy himself an aikido student;

    JOHN KERRY, more the sucker-punching-someone-in-church type;

Daryll, the Righteous Rocky, trying to punch his way out of the corner, and getting hammered until he can barely stand.

  109. Game of Life says:

Wow, a man, Manning-up. A gentleman posed like a Gentleman. Wow, a president being Presidential.

repugs eat your black hearts out.

    HAHAHAHAHA

  110. RickD says:

“How about we allow you to be a slave for the government because you refuse to be independent. Socialism is communism.”

Well, no. Socialism is socialism, and works fairly well as a form of government in several European countries that have a higher standard of living than most parts of the United States.

Communism is a dead form of government that even China has abandoned.

You probably shouldn’t participate in blogs that discuss government if you cannot tell the difference. I understand “communist” and “socialist” are just name-calling tools for you, but you’re embarrassing yourself in front of people who actually understand what’s going on.

  111. telestai2 says:

RR, if YOU were the only example of a “Christian” available to me, I’d be an atheist.

No one in his/her right mind could POSSIBLY want to become acquainted with your spiteful, selfish, erratic, cruel, rigid, hateful, scornful, bullying, and unloving god.

The god in the Bible bears NO relation to your god, the god you evidence by your actions, accusations, egomania, hatred of fellow humans, and attitudes.

  112. curious says:

Just look at the credentials of the lawyers. Many of them are graduates of the lowest ranked law school. Liberty Law. It was started by the evangelist Falwell I think. Monica Goodling is the example of what it takes to graduate from that school. This example of the law had no idea of the Constitution or her place in the government. She said her loyalty was to President Bush. Till one of the committee had to tell her, it was not. Her loyalty was supposed to be to the law and the Constitution.

What many of those lawyers in Justice believe is in ideology. And that is what happened to Justice. It became persecution by ideology and not the law. The hammer of the law was used to bash the ideological opposites of Republicans. Many of the lawyers in the Dept of Justice are political toads. The good ones got fired.

  113. Max-1 says:

    .

Oh now come on, Monica was just being the good Loyalist she was paid to be…
… Along with that oath to serve the Bush and not the Nation.

Why else would she project her fears about homosexuality upon a competitive female if she wasn’t secure about her own Bushy?

    .

  114. Max-1 says:

    .

    However…
… None dared to call it TREASON!

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

YOU are too stupid to be believed

  117. EugeneDebs says:

    RupturedRetard

YOU are a slave and too stupid to know it. You are a brainwashed moron who does the bidding of those a whole lot smarter than you and who have no decency. Something you share with them. You are ignorant. You are a hater, a bigot and a stupid piece of garbage. The world is lucky that the grown-ups are in charge now and stupid punks like you are no longer relevant.

  118. pbg says:

Rapture Ready here is a Muslim, masquerading as a Christian.
He’s ignorant of the Bible, and called Jesus a prophet–which is the belief of Islam.
His persistent obnoxious trolling is a Muslim plot to sully the reputation of Christianity.
Notice his scurrilous portrayal of a Christian as smug, glorying in his own wealth, trumpeting his own importance.
Just another piece of Muslim psyops aimed at destroying America.

  119. myperspective says:

    To barfly: It’s true.

Well before joining DOJ, Hagen was a very loyal Republican. What was done to her, IN THE NAME OF RUMOR, is wrong in every sense of the word. Anyone who has an opinion about it must speak up. The next time around, it really could be you in the rumor target. It could be me. Remember that.
