Will Vermont towns finally get their chance to arrest Cheney?

cheneyglasses4.jpg In March, voters in two Vermont towns — Marlboro and Brattleboro — passed symbolic articles seeking to arrest President Bush and Vice President Cheney if they ever came to their towns. These citizens may now get their chance. The American Museum of Fly Fishing in Manchester (approximately 50 miles from the two towns) was reportedly planning to honor Cheney at its annual dinner next month. However, the museum is now “re-examining” its decision because it has come under fire from conservationists. Ted Williams of Fly Rod & Reel magazine, who broke the story, remarked:

“Can there be a better choice than traditional practitioner Dick Cheney — the man who…trashed the Endangered Species Act, who virtually canceled the Clean Air and Clean Waters acts, who suppressed science, who ruined the lives of dedicated resource professionals and who ran Christine Todd Whitman out of the EPA?”

Bush never visited Vermont during his entire presidency; Cheney — whose Secret Service name was “Angler” — stopped in Burlington in 2002.

It finally occurred to me who Cheney in the wheelchair reminded me of: Mr. Potter from “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

    Ok, I’ll go there:

    I hope they hook him.

Wonder if his back miraculously got better? Can one fish from a wheelchair?

    A metaphor, if I may:

Remember Ridley Scott’s “Alien?”(if you haven’t seen it, consider this a spoiler alert ;-)

Everyone of the crew of the ‘Nostromo’ was under the tacit impression that they were working for the same aims, the same ends. Because they did not question this assumption, the antagonist, Ash, was able to advance great deal of damage under the radar and within the confines of ‘policy.’ When that failed, Ash overrode policy by resorting to ‘humanity’ to push to his programmed goals, even issuing directives under the guise of concern until the situation spun out of control beyond any hope of organized, effective defense. Just as Ash had designed.

For the stimulus package; the eroding nature of delay stresses the situation, neatly created by the republicans, and pushes the circumstances closer to redlining; unemployment, reduction of goods and services, labor diminished, which could be seen as another impetus to fear and mayhem.

Meanwhile, we keep shouting at the republicans that they need to recognize that they are responsible, that they violated the stated aims, that their policies don’t equate to what America and the public stands for. We presume they basically want what’s best for the country and the public too.

    What if they do not?

It would explain a great deal of their ongoing behavior if they were viewed not as a ‘benign’ opposition party, but an agent for dismantling the current government construct. What if they want to push the U.S. to a martial state? Fear and mayhem would certainly go a long way to achieving that end, particularly since the corporations, banks, etc. have secured a hefty infusion towards stormy times and in a crisis, people would have little choice but to appeal to those remaining few with resources: Industry, banks, military/industrial complex, corporations. The 1%.

Corporations would be left to set the ‘new’ agenda. The ‘new’ American century.

So it’s not outside the scope of consideration that we have our very own “Ash-holes” trying to sabotage any chance of getting off this rock we’ve,by design, been marooned on. PNAC is the corporate/conservative blueprint, and it involves, nay, mandates that some catastrophic event causes the rest of the country to lose their collective wits so that the corporation, (in ‘Aliens’ it was the Weyland-Yutani Corporation,) can profit and gain control.

When you have an acknowledged master plan of literal world domination that requires, in fact hinges on, chaos and entropy in order to be set in motion, you don’t twiddle your thumbs hoping for an accidental crisis, then hope to elbow your way into controlling the course of said unplanned crisis. Planned crises are so much better to co-ordinate; such ‘planners’ are inclined to sow such sentiment and discontent as needed to achieve their ends.

Perpetual war is one option. Public chaos is another; a breakdown of order, rising unemployment, discontent. Music to republicans ready to step in to save us from their ‘tough love.’

Don’t presume they are on anyone’s side but their own.

If you show up, Dickles, better be with a small army.

Maybe they could invite Palin instead? Nothing like shooting a fish from a helicopter!

I like to present him with a pair of lead filled chest waders.

I’m just… well, not surprised but offended that a two-term prez never visited a STATE. Cities… okay. But come on! Uniter, not a divider, huh…

  11. dbadass says:

Interesting idea Nevar but we like to keep our waterways lead free. Mind if we use something equally heavy yet less toxic?

  12. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

dbadass, you’re worried about lead as a toxin in the water? I’m worried about Cheney as a toxin in the water, on the land, in the air, ….

  13. ElBruce says:

It would create an interesting legal crisis if he still has Secret Service protection.

I’m also wondering, what would they do with him if they caught him?

  14. singe_101 says:

Oh and he dodged the draft 5+ times, why would he face the music in Vermont? They’ll probably just move it to Connecticut’s gated communities or something.

  15. dbadass says:

    ElBruce:
Whereas public nudity is no biggie in Brattleboro, I suggest they strip him down and set him free down on Main St…

  16. Buckie Boy says:

    I can only hope…

  17. belac says:

Can we convince some Spanish Fly Fishing museum to give Cheney an award?

Is there a Brush Clearing Hall of Fame in the Netherlands? Can we invent one?

That’s my dream… no more diplomatic immunity, sigh…

  18. 5th Estate says:

hanshiro…We presume they basically want what’s best for the country and the public too. What if they do not?

    So polite!

It is incredible to me that the Cons/Republicans have been openly declaring their intentions for decades. To the violent pivot-points deemed most desirable by the PNAC to legitimatize their arguments can be added Norquist’s desire to “drown Government in the bathtub”.

Some blame has to be laid at the Democrats’s door for consistently failing to recognize the abundant evidence before them and failing to challenge the GOP philisophy with conviction and clarity.

  19. belac says:

Umm, I meant a Fly Fishing museum in Spain… not a Spanish Fly Fishing museum, which would probably be something completely different… on second thought, though…

  20. ctcadguy says:

Many believe he was a driving force behind the 911 attacks and the anthrax attacks.

Would not surprise me. Fascist zealots can justify false flag incidents in order to start a wars for profits.

    Time to investigate!

  21. BearCountry says:

Hanshiro (#6) and 5th Estate, I’m so glad that you both are agreeing with me. I have said much the same for a long time, but have been essentially ignored.

The consensus seems to have been that the repugs are just to moronic to govern properly. Nonsense! The repugs do not have the best interest of the nation at heart, they have the desire to rule unopposed. That is one reason w and his crew sent us into war. The object is to break the military and have to mercenaries as the strongest national force.

The police are well within the bounds of what the repugs want as you can see from the way they made all of the arrests and unnecessary violence at the national political conventions in New York, Denver, and St. Paul.

Of course he has protection, and will for quite some time to come.

I am certainly no fan of BiggusDickus, but yes, he has protection.

How about a nice rustic fishing trip in Lousianna, down in the bayou (sp?).

Careful there, Cagey… or you’ll summon J Davis back from Hell w/ his “The South Shall Rise Again” nonsense.

  29. 5th Estate says:

bearcountry… sorry you’ve been ignored (or feel you have been).
I find this comment of yours interesting:

The object is to break the military and have to mercenaries as the strongest national force.

I don’t think its as absolute as you suggest, but we’ve obviously seen republiCON theory of government (less representation for the nation but more control for them) applied to the military, i.e. divide and conquer.
This is going to be an upcoming issue, I’m guessing once the US significantly withdraws from Iraq.

  30. Marie says:

I’d pay to see that arrest!

  31. MapleStreet says:

We’re planning to honor you Mr. Cheney said the spider to the fly.

  33. Cats r Flyfishn says:

    Vermonters – get him.

I fly fish and Cheney is a disgrace to this sport. He probably has a Secret Service person in the water putting the fish on the hook for him. Kind of like “canned hunting” only in the water instead of on land.

  34. Lovermont says:

Unfortunately, we will not get a chance to arrest him. The dinner in question is in New York. The Museum is based in Vermont, but holds their annual dinner in New York City.

Will the Secret Service move to Dubai? Paraguay?

  36. dbearton says:

Get those two traitor, war criminals anyway necessary.

There is nothing CUBAN about Guantanamo! How disingenuous to throw in the name when Cuba has nothing to do with our mess.
