Actually, it’s what Ronald Reagan hath wrought…

Lamenting the onset of a new generation of actors-turned-politicians, The Corner’s Mark Hemingway has a post entitled “What Al Franken Hath Wrought,” linking to a story about actor Val Kilmer considering a run for New Mexico governor. Revealing a rather peculiar lack of awareness, the Corner’s very next post is a link to an archive of articles about actor-turned-politician Ronald Reagan:

Update Looks like TPM's Eric Kleefeld had the same thought.

Nancy’s psychic told her about them… hope you get your money back.

  7. Uncle Ho says:

A few weeks ago, the Rethugs voted Ronnie Ray-gun as their GREATEST prez ever.

A quote here from their hero in light of today’ unemployment figures.

Is it really news that some guy in South Succotash has lost his job?

  8. Marie says:

Arnold and Fred did not come from Hollywood?

Compared to Franken, those two did not have the experience he has from writing political satire and researching the books he’s authored, as well as debating politics on his radio show.

  9. ralph the wonder llama says:

I think Republicans have decided that drowning government in a bathtub is too big a job for them to tackle right now, so they’re warming up by trying to drown Irony in a bathtub.

  10. Nevar says:

George W. tried to act it out….

  11. Max-1 says:

    Sorry OT -

Who needs law when you can follow “OPINIONS” that break the law?

Panetta: No prosecution for CIA interrogators

American is no longer a Nation of Laws but instead a Nation where men decide which “OPINIONS” to follow based on what suits whom.

  12. Ape-Man says:

They dirty tactics down pat. Please don’t let the idiots discover strategy.

  13. Fred says:

The effort to discredit Franken begins. They are very afraid of him.

  14. margerine says:

    Do it for the gipper.

Dammit! I had the perfect spot for them between my Arnold ‘Pumping Iron’ Commemorative Syringes and My Mini Fred “Faux-Folksy” Pickup Model! I guess my Jesse Ventura Commemorative Governor’s Inaugural Boa will have to stay up… sigh…

  16. Nevar says:

Cheer up, I’m sure it won’t be long before the George W. Bush Commemorative Brush Cutters are available for pre-order..

  17. Nevar says:

Next up… Tom Cruise runs for Senator from Space.

  18. belac says:

I’ve already ordered the kick ass “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED” Commemorative mini-pilot’s uniform but I’m a little disappointed… it’s just an empty suit… heh heh.

    (sorry)

  19. belac says:

Tom Cruise runs for Senator from Space.

    Is he allowed?
I’m not sure that all those ‘body Thetans’ are citizens…

BE CAREFUL WITH LOGIC LIKE THIS.
THIS will be how the Rethugs try to get Rush Limbaugh into office.

I would have thought they would have used some sort of fork lift to get Rush into office…

    Seriously,

Rush won’t run- he hates criticism and doesn’t hold up to any scrutiny… that’s why it’s so sad that the R’s have made him the face of their party.

  22. gummitch says:

    George Murphy (R)
    George Takei
    Sonny Bono (R)
    Fred Thompson (R)
    Shirley Temple Black (R)

    and more!

  23. Bob says:

It tells you how deep the myth runs when they don’t even consider that he was an actor first. As pointed out on RM, Reagan gave us bigger gov’t and raised taxes, the exact opposite of the myth. The book the guy on there was plugging looks like an interesting read.

You’re right — forewarned is forearmed.

I salivate with anticipation of the zingers.

    .

OK, let’s review what we’ve got so far:

    Ronald Reagan (R)
    Ben L. Jones (R)
    Alan Autry (R)
    Fred Grandy (R)
    George Murphy (R)
    George Takei
    Sonny Bono (R)
    Fred Thompson (R)
    Shirley Temple Black (R)
    Arnold Schwarzenegger (R)
    Clint Eastwood (R)

    Sheila Kuehl (D)
    Al Franken (D)
    George Takei (D)
    Jerry Springer (D)

    Jesse Ventura (reform)

That’s 11:4 Republicans + 1 wildcard. They’re hardly in a position to complain about it.

PS: Did you know that Norm Coleman is still producing campaign ads? Nutty!

  28. wagonjak says:

Actually if you want to go back to the first celebrity Republican, it would have to be George Murphy, the Governor of California so long ago I can’t remember the dates!

  29. JohnnyRussia says:

Reagan’s presidency proved even worse than his acting. He really missed that monkey co-star.

Good call. So that makes 12 R’s, 4 D’s, and one other.

  31. cosmogenium says:

Don’t forget Sonny Bono! On second thought…

  32. dbearton says:

What Raygun hath wrought is the current mess. The decline began with Uncle Ronnie and the Criminal Bush saw to the fall of America. All this actor BS is RepubliCon smokescreen for their crimes. They misdirect the population with any bullshit, i.e. White House Dress code, so they can avoid their treason and war crimes.
