Right wing parrots Rush’s attacks on health care provisions in the stimulus.

Taking their cue from Rush Limbaugh, right-wing pundits have launched a massive misinformation campaign mischaracterizing the economic recovery package as a socialist government takeover of health care that would result in Big Brother watching over Americans’ shoulders:

MEGYN KELLY:This Coordinator is supposed to monitor your health treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what’s the Feds deem appropriate and cost effective. You can see the controversy over this.

Watch a compilation:

In fact, the position of National Coordinator for Health Information Technology already exists. It was established by George W. Bush in 2004. What’s more, the Wonk Room notes that far from monitoring doctors or requiring private physicians to abide by treatment protocol, the two provisions will reduce health care costs and improve the quality of health care treatments.

Update On his radio show today, Limbaugh crowed over the success of his misinformation campaign: "I found it. I detailed it for you and now it's all over mainstream media."

So Fox is now a member of the MSM. Thanks for confirming that, Rush. Now the wingnuts will have to concoct a new meme.

Yeah, you sure don’t want your doctor doing what’s appropriate.

    I can see the controversy.

    Hi atsegga:
I am really interest in the fine works of the Borgen Project. I would very much like to get involved. I will soon be receiving a substantial return on the sale of some valuable pieces of art and would like to put those monies toward something I can really feel good about. Might you give me more information about this noble cause? I look forward to hearing more than that same post I have seen so very many times.
    Thanks-

News flash: Rush the Racist Junkie et al are preaching hate and misinformation to the same people who think Saddam was behind 9/11 and are positive Obama is a Muslim. Those weak-minded zombies aren’t part of the solution anyway. This is just the wingnuts entertaining themselves while making money off their nutty viewers/listeners.

  16. Cats r Flyfishn says:

Zooey – we all know that the “R” in Republican means repeat, redo, and regurgitate and not in any particular order.

Republicans have no original thoughts. Now that the boy Bush left Washington DC and moved onto his next destruction, the Republicans had a find a new leader and wow, what a leader they found in “porkulus” Limbaugh. As the Republicans hang onto his fat butt, they will all go over the cliff together.

These were the same old tired excuses that were being dragged out when it was the doctors and hospitals who were railing against “socialized medicine” back in the ’70s and ’80s.

Then they saw their payments whittled down to nothing, saw each new “health” plan with it’s overly burdensome requirements and paperwork, and now it’s the providers begging for a single payer system. Even the AMA came on board years ago.

Face it, it’s the health profiteers who are against universal care not because it would put those employed in the industry out of work, but because those bloated executive salaries, bonuses and profit sharing evaporate.

Sound anything like the financial sector?

    PEACE

The real point of this campaign, from Rush and his little piggies, is to obstruct, period. Anything the Right can do to prevent success with any Obama program, they will do, because they live in mortal fear that the permanent Republican majority has really come to a screeching halt.

Rush has been remarkably open about this — he’s terrified that a successful liberal administration will mean Americans turn their backs on the “conservatives” completely. And, of course, that we turn out backs on him and his bloated perception of himself as a “leader.”

They’re just poking sticks in the spokes of progress, with no thought or concern about the potential for crashing the whole country. Most of them probably believe they’re insulated from a crash. Surprise, surprise, surprise.

With the system we have now, physicians are under the thumb of for profit health insurance companies. These companies already exclude coverage, find ways of not paying for covered procedures and have and still are rationalizing health care for seniors.

  25. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

Rush and Meagan wouldn’t be concerned about having their medical records, say perhaps about suspicious prescription drug purchases, scrutinized by anyone – would they?

  26. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    gummitch,

I agree. They are not interested in being right, they are interested in winning. And they really don’t care how many lies they have to tell in order to win.

I do believe that if we can keep up the pressure, the people who listen to right-wingers like Rush will realize that they have been duped all these years, and they will reject Rush and his ilk in a heartbeat. Our challenge will be to have a comprehensive, valid answer for them when they start looking for alternatives. Thanks to the help of a fellow Critter, I am trying to find that answer to give them. Right now, for me, it’s a matter of “Cracking the Code”. I am hopeful.

So, how is that being an American? A patriot? How is getting rich the right thing to do for this nation? If you love Democracy you would pay almost anything to get it, have it and keep it.

More important, who are these traitors to our nation? How do you propose we put an end to their idiocy and/or hatred?

Are they looking to live elsewhere or stay here with us not around?

  31. had enough says:

Bernie Ward was the best in giving arguments pro single payer health care. Because his wife is a physician he was able to give in detail the corporate health care screw job to physicians.

What he was charged with is disgusting… but I will always feel the corporate powers that be singled him out because of his knowledge and talented ability to get the message out. Not only is he imprisoned but transferred to TX where no progressive talk is to be found…. they silenced him.

According to Christine Craft an attorney and KGO radio fill in, there were at least 100 involved with photo exchanges and not one except for Bernie ward was investigated.

Last night and again today, Drudge linked to a Bloomberg piece by Betsy (used to be: Elizabeth) McCaughey. If that name sounds familiar, it’s probably because you remember her discredited article 15 years ago in The Atlantic, and it’s fall-out. She wrote total fabrications that were soon picked up by George Will and other right-wing media types, and the result was soon false urban legend. McCaughey was a rabid critic of the Clinton Administration’s stab at health care reform, and—she’s baaaaack.

But why should we believe her this time, either?

“Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them. That means the elderly will bear the brunt. “

What is cool about this is that as FoxNews because more & more the MSM blow horn for Limbaugh is that they make more & more fools of themselves. Because, as is the case here, Limbaugh does not have anyone research things fully and in most cases he is wrong or just misrepresenting things. It is pretty easy, as TP did very well here, to simply point out that they are wrong.

It is unfortunate that FNC’s guests and Senators did not know about this when confronted, however.

Yeah I see the controversy. I sure don’t want the government monitoring my doctor to insure my treatment is appropriate and cost effective. I’m used to that being the right and responsibility of the for-profit insurance bureaucrats who must pre-certify my treatment. For goodness sakes, it’s not like the insurer has a conflict of interest.

  42. wizard2000 says:

Let me see if I understand what’s happening here.

In 2004, the lobbyists running the Bush administration got the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Act passed through the Republican-controlled Congress and signed into law by arch-conservative Bush.

This right-wing lobbyist-crafted legislation was solely meant to facilitate the profit making of HMOs and health insurers by setting up a national health database, from which HMOs and health insurers would be able to glean information about what doctors were prescribing and patients were receiving…to cut back coverage and make more profits for the HMOs and health insurers.

One of those sadly unfortunate side-effects of what the Republicans did, however, was that people DIED because their doctors were blocked from treating them for whatever was ailing them.

And the Republicans in Congress and the Bush White House, through the passage and signing of this act in 2004, “dictated treatment,” but not necessarily to the benefit of desperately-ill patients but to the benefit of the HMOs and health insurers who have used this national database to “dictate” to doctors what “treatments” are allowed, with the goal being to cut out expensive and long-time treatments that might cut into the profits of HMOs and health insurers…just let the patient die.

Now that Democrats control Congress and the White House, this Bush/right-wing-lobbyist crafted act from 2004 will actually go toward helping U.S. citizens who are ill to get much-needed treatment and medication, on the advice of their professional doctors, while possibly bypassing (or at least not taking into account first) the profit-making desires of the HMOs and health insurers.

Which is really upsetting the money-making schemes of the culture of corruption Republicans, the right-wing industry lobbyists, the HMOs and the health insurers, leading them to make the false claim that the federal government is going to “dictate” what treatments patients will receive or not receive from doctors and health providers, essentially accusing the Democrats in Congress and the White House of what the Republicans, HMOs and health insurers have been doing for the past five years, “dictating treatments” for maximum profit.

Geez, Louise. These conservative crooks just never quit, do they?
