Plame leaker Rove claims the Bush White House never leaked.

rove.jpgSpeaking about the first amendment at Loyola Marymount University last week, former Bush adviser Karl Rove said that “secrecy and confidentiality are necessary for every government.” Rove then made the laughable claim that the Bush White House never leaked to the press:

I love how the last eight years, this White House, the Bush White House, was criticized for being tight-lipped. We didn’t leak. I hope Barack Obama has a White House that doesn’t leak.

As Christy Hardin Smith notes at FireDogLake, Rove appears to be forgetting the leaking of CIA agent Valerie Plame’s identity, for which he was Robert Novak’s confirming source. Joe Sudbay writes that “Rove’s speech was an assault on journalists” who frequently “printed what Rove leaked to them.”

So when will this guy be pulled off the street and locked up prison? Everyone knows he’s guilty, why even have a trial?

  2. Shayne says:

Rove doesn’t think that disbursing lies via talking points is leaking either.

  15. paleolib says:

More to the point, KKKarl wasn’t really leaking anything in the manner in which the term is commonly used. His so-called leaks were a covert method of disbursing information without attribution to destroy the administration’s enemies. KKKarl was the anti-Deep Throat.

  16. gummitch says:

Rove believes everyone’s attention span is about as long as JoeNotaPlumber’s. Karl, don’t you remember when you and Darth Cheney had the President declassify documents specifically so you could leak them without committing treason? No? What? Stop making those little squealing noises and answer the question, Karl!

I don’t normally do character attacks (unless you make millions upon millions of dollars spewing hatred about drug users, all the while sucking down handfuls of OxyContin obtained illegally), but one could almost feel sorry for Rove.
    Look at him!
The poor guy was obviously an egghead, with no friends in grade, middle or high school. He never had a date through college, and probably didn’t lose his virginity (with the opposite sex) until he hit middle age.
He more than likely spent most of his adolescence and adult life conjuring up revenge for those that spited him, or those he perceived to have wronged him.
And, of course, he got it. By orchestrating the worst presidency in modern history. With destruction of our country’s foundations. With illegal wiretapping. With an unfounded and misleading war. With torture. WITH OUTING A COVERT CIA AGENT!!!
Again, one could feel sorry for him. I DON’T!!!

I also have never, ever fought someone that was weaker, smaller, and/or less trained. But let me tell you, if I ever met this mucking foron on the streets, I’d have a real hard time holding back, if you catch my drift!

“I love how the last eight years, this White House, the Bush White House, was criticized for being tight-lipped. We didn’t leak. I hope Barack Obama has a White House that doesn’t leak.”
    _____________________________________________________________

Rove’s attempting to spin the nobility angle, but it won’t wash. The Bush White House leaked as much as any other administration, but for different reasons.

Most often leaks serve the purpose of floating a trial balloon to see how quickly it gets shot down before making an official announcement (Clinton did this a lot, but he certainly wasn’t the only president who did). However, the BushCo leaks served primarily to destroy political enemies, and in the Plame case allowing that carnage to destroy covert operations necessary to our security.

BushCo was also tight-lipped — it’s true. But that wall of silence had far more to do with protecting their own butts than it did with national security. “Tight-lipped” doesn’t even begin to describe the contempt this administration showed for Congress, the rest of government, and the American people. There’s a big difference between leak discipline and thumbing one’s nose at Congressional subpoenas.

Yes, Obama’s team will probably leak some — all administrations do. But I suspect it will lean more toward trial balloons than political dirty tricks. And we probably won’t even get as many trial balloons as Clinton gave us — Obama seems (so far) to be more of a direct kind of guy.

  25. jeanette deldin says:

    I AM BAAAAACK?

    LET’S DIVIDE

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists, Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950’s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right, so let’s just end it on friendly terms. We can smile; slate it up to irreconcilable differences, and go on our own ways.

Here is a model dissolution agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass, each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement.

After that it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes. We don’t like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.

Since you hate guns and war, we’ll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O’Donnell (you are however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move them).

We’ll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies, and illegal aliens. We’ll keep the hot Alaskan Hockey Moms, greedy CEO’s, and Rednecks. We’ll keep the Bibles and give you NBC, CNN and Hollywood .

You can make nice with Iran , Palestine , and France , and we’ll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protestors. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we’ll provide them job security.

We’ll keep our Judeo-Christian Values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, and Shirley McClain. You can have the U.N. But we will no longer be paying the bill. We’ll keep the SUV’s, pickup trucks, and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru Station Wagon you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare, if you can find any practicing Doctors (that is practicing, Howard Dean) who will follow to your turf (sic).

We’ll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I’m sure you’ll be happy to substitute Imagine, I’d Like to Teach The World To Sing, Kum Ba Ya, or We Are the World.

We’ll practice trickle down economics, and you can give trickle up poverty its best shot.

Since it often so offends you we’ll keep our History, our Name, and our Flag.

Would you agree to this? If so please pass it along to other likeminded patriots, and if you do not agree just hit delete and hang on.

In the spirit of friendly parting, I’ll bet you ANWAR on who will need whose help in 15 years.

    Sincerely,

    Ps. please take Barbra Streisand..

So, can anyone here prove Rove lied? I guess the court that dismissed Plame’s case lied too…eh?

Look kooks, your boy won, and you should be proud that he’s forward thinking…snicker…snicker.

Is it just me, or has anyone noticed how Obigears uses the the phrase “yaknow” in just about every sentence…..boy is this gonna be a fun three years. Why three years you ask?? Because in three years, those ingnorant fools that voted for the loser and his bus-flattened VP will be clammering to end the pain.

I think you might want to do away with Piglosi and Reid first….if you want a chance at the mid-terms.

    ROFLMAO!!

  27. wiley says:

It is possible that Novak got the information from some other source. A lot of intelligence on U.S. assets in the Middle East has been stolen and may have been leaked by spies. Even if that’s the case, confirming the identity of a spy is as traitorous as leaking it in the first place.

    jeanette deldin Says:

    I AM BAAAAACK?

    LET’S DIVIDE

No problem. I won’t pretend (like you) to have written this:

    Dear Red States:

We’ve decided we’re leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we’re taking the other Blue States with us. In case you aren’t aware, that includes California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast. It may even include Florida and Ohio, they are seriously considering it. We’ve given them until Nov. 4th to decide. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country. Since we’re dropping the middle states we’re calling it United America, or simply the U.A.

To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood. You can take Ted Nugent and Chuck Norris. We’re keeping Bruce Springsteen and Brad Pitt. You get WorldCom. We get Intel and Microsoft. You get Ole’ Miss. We get Harvard and 85 percent of America’s venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama. We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay their fair share.

Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition’s, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms, and the highest concentration of pregnant unwed teenagers. Please be aware that the U.A. will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we’re going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they’re apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don’t care if you don’t show pictures of their children’s caskets coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq, and hope that the WMDs turn up, really we do, but we’re not willing to spend our resources in Bush’s Quagmire. We’d rather spend it on taking care of sick people, and educating our children.

With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country’s fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation’s fresh fruit, 95 percent of America’s quality wines, 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools plus Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT. With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia. We get Cape Cod National Seashore and Yosemite, thank you.

Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless we’re discussing the war, the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61 percent of you crazy Redies believe you are people with higher morals then we Bluies…

    Peace out,
    Blue States

    Ohhhhhh!

  42. Middleoftheroad says:

What? This, again? Plame wasn’t undercover; she had a desk job, and the statute of limitations ran out even if Rove leaked her name, which he did not. A reporter did, and also Plame’s husband did, introducing his “CIA” wife at at least two parties.

Doesn’t anyone here do ANY research?

  43. DRxJ says:

And, if I remember correctly, it came with a colored map outlining the red states as “The United States of Jayzuz”.

Even as a Christian, I found that funny!

  44. Fred says:

jeanette pretends to want to discuss but has no words of her own.

You have to stay jeanette because you have nowhere to go. You have to stay while we repair the following problems that you created:

the national debt was 5 trillion when Bush took office and now it is 10.5 trillion. What did we get for our 5.5 trillion dollars of debt? An unnecessary war, an economic crisis, a failed banking industry, record unemployment, a recession that is teetering on becoming a depression, a budget surplus turned into a one trillion dollar budget deficit, etc. Not a very good position to be telling others how to do things from.

  45. Middleoftheroad says:

  49. ralph the wonder llama says:

You’re not familiar with the concept of leaking, are you?

The reporter doesn’t “leak” it. The reporter REPORTS THE LEAK.

    Sheesh.

  56. Hoodathunk says:

While I was in college (on the GI Bill like the good little socialist I am) I studied Russian and East Central European Studies. Every year there was a University sponsored trip to the Soviet Union (paid for by each student, not the school). I wanted to go but was informed by the State Department I could not because my job in the military had me flagged as personnel with critical information so it was both unsafe and a breach of national security to go behind the Iron Curtain.

So even if Valerie Plame was no longer in sanction at the time of the release of information, she was still way more covered by national security for her previous activities.

Why is it repugs think everyone forgets the past like they do?

  57. Tweedster says:

Poor widdle middle…it is funny to me how the northeast, esp. New England, receives about 90 cents on every tax dollar whereas the red states across the country – the bible belt in particular – get about $1.10 for every tax dollar reinvested in the states. The welfare states have been consistently been the RED ones.

Also, it was a Republican led government that has presided in each of the country’s biggest deficeits – from Raygun on down the line.

You are so cute how you confuse things! It is ADORABLE!!!

What a cute little plan. I do find it odd that a secessionist would keep the name and flag of the country they would like to secede from though.

Hmmm…and how will you be able to stock all those Wal-Marts? It will be tough without buddying up to big ole COMMUNIST CHINA. Maybe your new country can invade them and spread DEMOCRACY there!!!

    Sorryyyy…

  64. Hoodathunk says:

Shudder Hot pants and fish nets?

  65. Hoodathunk says:

Thanks, Ralph, I was going to get some lunch.

  66. jeanette deldin says:

Hey, you libs, thought you would like that plan, we could each get what we want. NO???

Dont know where you have been, but why I said kitchen, car and house as that is what one question was to Obama at his lecture today, wherever that was.
Also another deeb asked why his unemployement couldnt be 3000.00 instead of 1100.00 As that is what he was making before he lost his job. Now that would be cool right????

Back to name calling I see. Typically I couldnt care less, asctually I dont care today either.

I did get this column from my cousin and passed it on to you and others because it actually makes sense. You would assume that I care if you know I sent from someone else and didnt write it myself. How very liberal of you.
Thought you could use it for your closed mind.

  67. tombaker says:

Righties are all sassy and energized like no time since ‘05.

I guess they must think that now all they have to do is pitch hissies ’til the next election, and that will work again like it has in the past. That is just so precious, bless their little ol’ hearts.

Any-how, I think it’ll be cute-as-all-get-out to see Mr. Rove “help” those investigators some more, and see what comes of all that for him, bless his heart.

  68. ralph the wonder llama says:

Sorry, Hoodathunk. But in my defense, I considered outlining a list of services jeanette might offer her “clients” as well, and decided against it.

    Dont hold back.

  70. Fred says:

jeanette, you care…..why else would you be here.

How about a sensible statement from you for a change. Too much to ask?

Oh and chastising people for namecalling while calling them libs doesn’t add to your credibility….think about it would ya?

  71. fletc3her says:

Revealing Valerie Plame’s identity was not a “leak” but an organized whisper campaign ordered by the Vice President and carried out by his subordinates and those of the President.

The claim is still laughable, but let’s not mistake a “leak” of information to the media and wholesale treason committed in order to discredit perceived enemies of the administration.

  72. Hoodathunk says:

jeanette deldin Says: You would assume that I care if you know I sent from someone else and didnt write it myself.

We have stuck together since the late 1950’s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce.

But I thought you conservatives believed in the “Sanctity of Marriage”. Does this screed (where did it come from originally?) and the fact that the Republicans have named a thrice-divorced drug addict as their “unofficial leader” mean you guys no longer view marriage as “sacred”? Please explain the obvious hypocrisy to me. Thank you.

You are a liar and a fool. The CIA declassified her job summary and read it into the Congressional record. She absolutly WAS covert. That is a PLAIN FACT and only the stupidest and most brainwashed hivemind morons are still claiming otherwise. I mean since reality has no ability to penetrate the atmosphere on Planet Wingnut

You are a liar. You didnt think. You are FAR too stupid for higher brain function. That will be forever beyond your wildest dreams. You never go the requisite equipment. Regurgitate what you were TOLD to think is what you can do. You are a moron. Time to live with your limitations. You are going to be stupid for the rest of your life. Sucks to be you.

Take a hike moron. After 8 years of listening to GUMP butcher the English language and exhibit NO ability to put two coherent sentences together you are going to whine and snivel about how an obviously intelligent and articulate man speaks???? Are you freaking kidding me? Stuff your idiocy. We have had enough of imbeciles like you stinking up our good country and good websites like this. Until you can beg someone to GIVE you an intelligent thought why not give us a break from what the screechmonkey on the radio told you to think. We just dont care what you have been brainwashed with recently

  91. SKdeA says:

Interesting, Rove gets a whiff of interest and the trolls come out of hiding. Maybe he isn’t paying them enough, and that’s why Dimmette wants a car, a house, a kitchen…

Personally, I would ask people like her to leave the country if they don’t like it, but what other country in the world deserves that kind of fate?

  92. Anti-anomie says:

Take a hike eh..? Is eugenedebs your hermaphrodite name son?

Look wiz kid, for eight years we’ve heard nothing but Bush this, and Bush that. Now your boy won, and he’s proved to be side-by-side, no better than GW or any other pol when it comes to lying to Americans. Face it, he’s been a miserable failure already (along with the DemoDonk congressional leaders)…and we’re not even a month in…what a loser.
Thirteen lobbyists, Puff Daschle, Timmy baby evading taxes, and oh yeah, Plugs Biden telling us there’s a 30% chance the spendulus bill will fail.

Nope, Hemmie boy , I think I’ll hang around a while and watch you kooks squirm.

    I smell a one-term loser on the horizon…by golly…LOL!

Your stupidity and desperation are just sad. YOU are a moron. THAT on a good day. Oh sure stay around. Could anybody over there explain the hypocrisy of a political party that considers marriage “sacred” but who picks a thrice-divorced man as their “unofficial leader”? Because you sure haven’t been able to.

Hmmm…. and you’re calling my post grade school…LOL!

While I’m here, Hermie Boy, can you answer my first post? Does anyone here have proof Rove lied?

Odds are, you’ll come up with some anti-Rove, hate Bush rhetoric that personifies the liberal kook montra.

So bring your “A” game Hermie Boy.

  104. Anti-anomie says:

I thought Hermi Boy et al. would enjoy these words….
“This week, the Obama Administration today announced that it would keep the same position as the Bush Administration in ….”

Hmm… I guess Obigears received his daily briefs and decided his base wasn’t as important as the security of America. Well…golllllllyy! Gee, what an epiphany O!

    Anti-anomie Says:

WOW you are bone ignorant. I guess you already knew that. Too bad education especially fantasy ones dont cure STUPIDITY which you have in abundance. Your weird and frankly creepy sexual fantasies about hermaphrodites are better kept in your close with your rubber woman pervert. It really isnt our Fault you are so stupid. The ONLY reason Rove wasnt indicted is his lawyer heard at a DC party that he had been contradicted by testimony and went back for an eleventh hour testimony where he claimed he REMEMBERED WRONG and after consulting his notes wanted to change his testimony. I didnt claim he lied. I dont read minds. You dont even HAVE a mind moron. What is WITHOUT DISPUTE is that he exposed Plame as CIA his own lawyer admitted as much. He is lucky they couldnt prove that he KNEW she was covert. You are stupid and only regurgitate the stupidity we have already heard before Antboy. Keep showing how pathetic you are. Your stupidity is amusing. I love a free clown show. If you think anyone takes your posts for anything else you are also deluded. Isnt it time for Rush to tell you what you think today?

  107. EugeneDebs says:

My GOD Antboy. Even by troll standards you REALLY are stupid. When he continues warrantless wiretapping or torture get back to us. Then again. Dont you are too stupid to even be entertaining
