Now that the Senate has passed its version of the recovery and reinvestment bill, the conference committee will have to work out the discrepencies between the House and Senate bills. One big difference is funds for school construction, which were completely stripped by the Senate. During his town hall meeting in Florida today, Obama twice touted the school construction funds, calling education funding “the highest priority.” Watch it:
Speaking yesterday to a town hall audience in Indiana, Obama was even more blunt: “Now, I’ll be honest with you, the Senate version cut a lot of these education dollars. I would like to see some of it restored.”
The House bill would create between 343,000 and 444,000 more jobs than the Senate compromise.
– - What do you call 20 Senators at the bottom of the Potomac River?
A start.
February 10th, 2009 at 9:09 pmTax cuts don’t create jobs.
Spending on projects creates jobs.
Simple.
February 10th, 2009 at 9:27 pmWill someone take those stubbornly partisan repugniscum by the short hairs and make them cooperate?
The people of the nation are strongly behind Obama and the rescue plan, yet repugs are still calling the shots. They are tone deaf, and deferring to their campaign donors. They claim fiscal responsibility, but we have seen nothing but fiscal irresponsibility.
This has to pass – and it has to pass Obama’s way – Gawd, I hate repugs. What is going to make them cooperate?
February 10th, 2009 at 9:39 pmEliminate the damn tax cuts so beloved by the rich bastards of the repugniscum party. Use that money to fulfill the needs of the people.
February 10th, 2009 at 9:40 pmListen to our President. He was elected for a reason. The AmeriTaliban has suffered huge losses, has no power other than to obstruct, and of course, lie and lie and lie. Time to use the steamrollers.
PEACE
February 10th, 2009 at 9:42 pmLast school I taught in didn’t have hot running water in the “science” “labs”. Plugging in one computer, an overhead projector, and two hot plates tripped the breaker. Funny how th same folks that don’t think more money for ed leads to better ed still think that better funded capitalism leads to better capitalism…
February 10th, 2009 at 9:45 pmWay to go prez. Make your points face to face with Americans.
Unfathomable that he’s compelled to persuade congress,
February 10th, 2009 at 9:46 pmeven some democrats, to act on something that should be a no
brainer.
No they won’t. After all there is still a few scary goopers in Washington, and the hundreds of dems are afraid of them.
February 10th, 2009 at 9:47 pmStep 1: The conference committee will undo most of the roughly $65 billion in cuts to state aid, education, and health care spending the Senate centrists negotiated. To pay for it, they’ll junk the $70-billion in Alternative Minimum Tax relief the Senate showered on the upper-middle class.
Step 2: Let the GOP cry about it.
Step 3: Sign a better bill.

Apparently you didn’t see the editorial in the NY Times the other day. Somebody was going on about just how hard it is to live in NYC on a mere $500K/yr.
My God, we don’t want our upper crust types getting so desperate that they resort to a life of crime, do we?
Snicker… giggle… BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…
Sorry… sometimes I even crack myself up.
Bankers… resorting to breaking the law… to make even MORE MONEY for themselves… who ever heard of such a thing?

February 10th, 2009 at 10:19 pmMaybe all of the above.
Obama is playing it right, he is capitalizing on his popularity with the public and making the case directly to them (in enemy territory). The people want this, even as pundits falsely claim that support is waning — it is the pundits who are pushing the repugniscum obstruction.
February 10th, 2009 at 10:23 pmPeople must be heard and Obama is listening — the Congress is not — repugs must think that the SSDD policies of the past will work again — they are in for a rude awakening.
The sole reason the Senate bill costs more while delivering less stimulus is because it has more business tax credits. When you take out $40 billion in school construction spending yet end up with $14 billion more in cost it simply means that an additional $54 billion in business tax credits were added. Many of those business tax credit dollars will end up as higher bonuses for senior management — and get this — because the tax credits will improve the company profits and those higher profits are the grease that makes for larger bonuses. Obviously Susan Collins and company think higher corporate bonuses are more worthy than improving the education system. I wish they would explain how that is so.
February 10th, 2009 at 11:10 pmMarie,
Sorry, but you have it exactly WRONG.
A recent Rasmussen poll shows that a majority of Americans are NOT in favor of the stimulus bill!
This is why I love coming here… for laughs! You folks are so pathetically CLUELESS, it’s downright funny!
February 10th, 2009 at 11:20 pmNow for my observation/question:
WHY is there ANY money for school construction in the bill?
Do you people not know how schools are funded?
February 10th, 2009 at 11:23 pmEarth to Obama… “You WON the election, dude! No more need to campaign!”
February 10th, 2009 at 11:33 pmLink? Liar….
Sorry, but you have it exactly WRONG.
Are you trying to say there is no federal money in education timmmy? Really?
February 10th, 2009 at 11:35 pmI have an idea. Let’s just give the government ALL the money we earn and let our betters tell us how to spend it!
After all, we can’t be trusted to make the right decisions
that will benefit the most people, right?
Just think how easy and carefree our lives will become!!! No moe decisions on how to budget; what toothpaste to buy, etc.
Who wants to go first, hmmmm?
February 10th, 2009 at 11:41 pmWe are almost where you just described and it’s all because of people like you….happy?
February 10th, 2009 at 11:43 pmYou see timmy, business does just fine under democrats, everybody suffers except the very rich under republicans.
February 10th, 2009 at 11:45 pmHey Fred!
How about you? Why don’t we do a little test. You give me a goodly portion of your money, then I will turn around and dole it back out to you!
Only one itsy, bitsy condition: you have to use the money the way I TELL YOU TO. It’s not YOUR money, you dope. It’s mine!
How about it?
February 10th, 2009 at 11:45 pmFred,
Surely you are joking. It is not conservatives or Republicans who are after your money… and you know it.
February 10th, 2009 at 11:46 pmYou didn’t respond to my challenge to your lies……then maybe we can go from there…
February 10th, 2009 at 11:49 pmFred,
Well, I wish we were actually talking about ONLY money re: the so-called stimulus bill.
What really bothers me the most is all the government control being written into law by this bill.
Get ready for European-style socialized, government controlled health care!
February 10th, 2009 at 11:49 pmFred,
Like I SAID – Rasmussen Reports
February 10th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
You can keep rambling but until you prove your lie or admit it is a lie, nothing you say matters.
February 10th, 2009 at 11:51 pmFred,
So, am I still lying? You are full of it, my friend.
February 10th, 2009 at 11:52 pmFred,
So how can I get a hold of your money? After all, I only have your best interests at heart… no, really!
Just send me a check each week and I’ll be sure to put it to good use!
hahahahahahahaha
February 10th, 2009 at 11:54 pmThen it should be easy to prove. Where is the link to the rasmusson poll and where is the proof that there is no government money in education?
I’m not the one who is full of it, obviously. I’m not the liar.
February 10th, 2009 at 11:54 pmFred,
Your a funny little doofus, but I like you anyway.
Have fun sending more of your hard earned pay to Washington…
February 10th, 2009 at 11:55 pmSo, you admit that you’re nothing but a lying sack of shit, that about it?
Tell me, do you wear a funny hat with bells on it and pointy shoes with bells because you remind me of a court jester who just says anything that will make his masters giggle….
February 10th, 2009 at 11:57 pmAre we having fun yet timmy? I know I am.
February 11th, 2009 at 12:03 amFred, why so mean to sacks of shit?
February 11th, 2009 at 12:04 amtimmy…..????
February 11th, 2009 at 12:04 amHe must be googling a good response or getting his latest talking points from coulter or something…..surely he didn’t give up that easily….

Marie,
Sorry, but you have it exactly WRONG.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Wrong again moron. Rassmussen isnt the only poll just the one you brainwashed cons seem to always like
http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20090210/pl_politico/18617
Fifty-one percent of 1,303 adults polled from Feb. 4-8 said they thought the stimulus was a good idea, compared with 57 percent in early January.
Might be dropping but still seems to be a majority. Dont lie to us Timmeh. We all know you love to come here to parade that stupidity you are so proud of. You are ignorant Timmeh and for some bizarre reason you LOVE to show off your ignorance.
February 11th, 2009 at 12:07 amTim Vaculik Says:
Now for my observation/question
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You mean NOW you are going to tell us what Rush TOLD you to think. Yeah, of course I know. Remember you are a moron. You are a very stupid brainwashed imbecile. Schools get federal money you ignoramus. Also they are talking about BUILDING and FIXING schools not taking them over you insufferable fool.
February 11th, 2009 at 12:09 amThe rest of your posts were your usual vintage stupidity. Here is a clue moron. Ebeneezer Scrooge was not supposed to be a role model. IF you dont LIKE paying your fair share to have a society go live in the woods and eat nuts and berries. We are trying to have a civilization here and we get tired of dragging you selfish morons along who cant do anything but gripe and complain that societies cost money. You are a fool Timmeh. An ignorant brainwashed fool. Here is another clue. Just because Rush TOLD you to believe it doesnt mean it makes sense
February 11th, 2009 at 12:12 amWow, that was thoughtless of me. I guess I’m overcompensating for not being as well versed in the English language as EugeneDebs……man that cat can cut the rug out from under a troll and make it sound like he’s just ordering pizza…..
February 11th, 2009 at 12:19 amYep he’s smokin’.
February 11th, 2009 at 12:22 amHey Timmy, when you give me my money that Bush wasted on the Iraq fiasco I’ll send you money for schools. Dumbass.
February 11th, 2009 at 12:24 amBack on topic, is there any chance that the republicans will see the writing on the wall and give Obama what he needs to start repairing our economy?
Looks to me like everything that is in the Senate bill should be allowed to stay since that was where we were in a close contest to get it passed and that should pass easily in the house with or without republican support…..
February 11th, 2009 at 12:28 amThis line from Eugene really cracked me up…..
February 11th, 2009 at 12:31 am
I think Timmi just makes up shit to amuse him/herself . . . even Rush doesn’t sound as stupid . . . .
February 11th, 2009 at 12:41 amYou know the trolls have nothing when they jump in with the “false choice” argument as the basis for their opposition. Nobody intelligent is suggesting that we all send every penny we have to Washington and let them pick out our toothpaste for us. “False choice” arguments are presented by people who do not wish to debate.
February 11th, 2009 at 12:56 ampoor little timmeh vacuous. he’s been reduced to slinging his own feces around like an impotent monkey behind bars at the zoo.
February 11th, 2009 at 6:02 amWe’ve got to try to understand how the Repubs feel.
Just nine years ago, they were toasting one another over eternal control over America. There was going to be a “permanent Republican majority.” The Republican Reich would last forever…
Eight years later, all they can do is torpedo a few schools. That’s quite a humiliation for a bunch of aging white guys. Small wonder they’re acting a little crazy.
Going Back in Time
February 11th, 2009 at 8:27 amTrolls find one poll that they like and that’s their cornerstone.
They believe the pundits from fox news and those who are loyal to their corporate owners.
They are listening to themselves.
The polls that are reflecting Joe Average indicate that the public is in favor of the stimulus package – and they want something to start now – they are frustrated with Congress, in particular, the republicans.
While the trolls follow their leaders, the rest of America is crying for help — a majority of Americans.
February 11th, 2009 at 9:06 amThe same majority who believe in Obama and want him to succeed.
Most people recognize that the leadership of the past decade has been detrimental to the health of America – but those few who are not suffering don’t want change.
