Axelrod hits back at Andy Card: ‘We have to roll up our sleeves and clean up the mess.’

ap0811240193767.jpg In recent days, several of President Bush’s closest advisers have been attacking President Obama. Vice Preisdent Cheney, for example, said that there was “a high probability” of a WMD attack if Bush’s policies were reversed, and former chief of staff Andy Card said that Obama has turned the White House into a “locker room” because he isn’t requiring staff to wear jackets at all times. Axelrod sharply responds to the “tasteless” criticisms in a new interview with the Washington Post:

I was disappointed in the Vice President’s comments, not because he said–stated the obvious which is that there are threats that are grave, but that he suggested that somehow the President’s decisions on torture in Guantanamo would increase the likelihood of that. [...]

You know, the last thing that I think we’re looking for at this juncture is advice on fiscal integrity or ethics from Karl Rove, anyone who’s read the newspapers for the last eight years would laugh at that.

So, I appreciate that President Bush has been so classy during this period, and I’m disappointed that some of the folks who worked for him didn’t–don’t share that. [...]

I mentioned Andy Card saying that we were somehow denigrating the Presidency because people were wearing short sleeves in the Oval Office. We’re wearing short sleeves because we have to roll up our sleeves and clean up the mess that we inherited.

I know that’s the truth! Card, Cheney and the rest of the critics need to just STFU!

  4. binny says:

Thank goodness for some pushback on all the nastiness spewing from these guys.

  5. Jane E. Schneider says:

You go, David! Good to hear someone besides ourselves pointing out the idiocy and shallowness of Card’s remarks.

  6. Jim Wolf359 says:

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Snap!! Way to go David. Thats what we’ve been talk’in about!!!

  7. Shayne says:

I hope they’re wearing boots too because the bullsh*t spewing from the right is deep.

  8. Jess Wonderin says:

Seems the Bush team dressed like Wall Street Bankers and we got the same results . . . I don’t see the need to wear a tie to clean out the shit left behind by Bush . . . .

  9. Jim Wolf359 says:

    Jess Wonderin says:

A tie would just get in the way.

  10. rimhotep says:

You have to wonder about the daily “skid marks” in the undergarments of these “suits” of the Bushitcos because they’ve wiped their a$$es with our Constitution.

  11. rimhotep says:

The Bush/Cheney/Rove “mess” is not only national but now threatens our national security due to an international fiscal crisis.

Bush tanked every business he ever owned; he’s come close to tanking this country and the horrendous mess Obama inherited may not be fixable.

These thugs have nerve criticizing Obama. What they’ve done is criminal.

  12. green says:

Hee hee hee………Way to go David Axelrod, you called it and what you called was correct. No more pussy footing around these friggin fascists. Let’s tell it like it is!

  13. green says:

  15. laworder says:

    Hey Card,

Why don’t you go fetch your chickenhawk ex-president another hamburger! Zero creditability. Really Andy, what was it like to work for that murdering thug? Did you guys get paid by the hour or by the number of innocent people killed by invading the wrong country after 9-11.

  16. GSD says:

Nice of the Bush’s Z Team to start a smear and attack campaign against President Obama this early on.

    Low class asshats.

Cuck Fard. Ruck Fove and Duck Fick.

  17. kasinca says:

The President should give the okay for investigating this crime family…it appears that these thugs are daring them to..

  18. tarazan says:

Silly Andy is playing the shirt Card..

  19. Jackie says:

Cheney is worried that Americans will learn some of the detainees the US tortured were innocent and tortured to death. Yes the Pentagon paid the families for the people we murdered and tortured. Many people kidnapped for information had nothing to do with Al Qeada but the Bush Administration was getting inside information from other countries. Several countries went along with this crime but those Leaders are no longer in Office. Yes the UK would be embarrassed because Tony Blair is up to his neck in the crimes. As Rummy and Cheney said mistakes were made SO. President Obama is going to have to do more then apologize for the horrorible crimes committed by the Bush Administration. When the total number of innocent people the US has killed/tortured it will out number the 9/11 attack. I remember Bin Laden said everyone would fine out the truth about why the 9/11 attack happen and that the US will go broke. Looks like he knew this information most likely from his parents who were members with the Bush Famiy/Cheney in the Caryle Group as the did their War profiteering.

  20. had enough says:

Time for Obama to forget about the bipartisanship and get down to business. The goppers have proved to be nothing but criminals, enablers to crimes and obstructionists.

Thom Hartmann mentioned that since our country is in crisis , Reid and the senate needs to vote out filibuster and make it a thing of the past … then we could get down to much needed business.

  21. had enough says:

It seems the longer the criminals are allowed to be free without investigation the more angry the public gets. People want accountability and this feeling is not going away with time.

  22. had enough says:

Andy Card said that Obama has turned the White House into a “locker room”

That is one of the racist comments I heard from goppers during the election…. ex: an Obama team would look like a locker room full of the Blazers or some other basketball team.

  23. CParis says:

So, I appreciate that President Bush has been so classy during this period…

Shrubby hasn’t been seen or heard because he’s either fallen off the wagon into a vat of Jack Daniels or MissLaura has him stuffed in a hidey hole somewhere in the west Texas desert.

  24. Marie says:

    Woo-hoo! Keep ‘em coming’ David.
They deserve at least that and much more.

  25. had enough says:

    kasinca Says:

The President should give the okay for investigating this crime family…it appears that these thugs are daring them to..

These thugs were players in the Nixon, Reagan and Bush Sr. administration and a blind eye turned only for these criminals to re emerge and put our country into a crisis.

No longer can we afford to ignore these criminals.

  26. Buckie Boy says:

May I suggest Haz-mad suits or maybe rubber, the stench of Bush is on everything you touch.

  27. DallasNE says:

The Obama team is not shy about striking back hard at the critics. This makes Obama different from past Democratic leaders — John Kerry comes to mind regarding the attacks on his military record. It is long overdue.

  28. Game of Life says:

President Obama has more class in his pi$$ than these backwardass repugs. President Obama can do what the f he wants to do in the f&ucking wh. AIGHT MF!

JHC! repugs are petty and the worse kind of idiots. they love to dominate. Obstructionist aholes. What fool broadcasts he wants the President and US to fail. Why is this nut allow to broascast the destruction of the US? Y’ALL WRECKED AND RAN MF!

Do repugs ever say anything of substance? Will these imbeciles grow the f9ck up?

repugs are holding back food and basic needs from us and want to continued their super failed adgenda. Can’t they realize their leadershitp does work? MF LOSERS!

What the hell is up with the repugs being openly proud to be cold and callous? GTFOOH We the people have spoken. LISTEN UP MF!

repugs will ridiculously proclaim they are just the opposite, angry white men who want to continue on with their reckless greedy 1000 agenda, of the dems. It’s a CONcept so ridiculous because it’s self-serving and sickly sad. LOOK AROUND MF!

    Are repugs human?

  29. Jane E. Schneider says:

    “Are repugs human?”

So far science has not proved their relationship to the human race.

  30. Roket says:

So in Andy Cards world, wearing a suit makes you all important and stuff. Appearance means everything and what’s up top means nothing. That Andy sure is a Card.

    Republicans are sooo 20th Century.

  31. sectionop92 says:

Andy Card needs to wear his Sunday best to go chase pigs in mud. That’s essentially what he did at the White House, except his superiors laughed at him.

  32. scytherius says:

  33. Bonnie says:

  34. had enough says:

    # 33

he is a top adviser to Obama

  35. SP Biloxi says:

It is about time someone like Axelrod take a swipe at asshat Card. For a man that was given a $3,000 a day job by Bush [Before the former clown President left office, he made sure certain buddies including Card got a plush $3,000 a day job], Card needs to worry about Card for future investigation since he, too, was involved in the 9/11-Iraq-Saddam Hussein distort propaganda.

  36. Rich H says:

    Game of Life

It’s been a long hard day. What makes it is just imagining you screaming that at the top of your lungs!
    Go get the bastards.

  37. Vanthomas says:

How cute is it to see bush cronies of the Confederate party imploding each and everyday?

  38. Above the Clouds says:

Weren’t the Nazis who marched lockstep behind their leader into the hell they created for the world also “smartly dressed?”

  39. nygenxer says:

That was perfect: straight for the throat but with class. Can he teach other Democrats to do that?

    More, please.

  40. KayInMaine says:

George Bush, Dick Cheney, and the other Thieves wore business suits like the Wall Street CEO’s. All thieves dress this way.

  41. KayInMaine says:

I wonder what Dick Cheney will be wearing when he gives the order to his buddies at the Pentagon in the near future to start dropping nukes on America?

  42. Xisithrus says:

I see Darth is still running around clucking about the sky falling.

  43. KayInMaine says:

LOL Xisithrus, and he does that well huh? The clucking…

  44. Xisithrus says:

LOL Xisithrus, and he does that well huh? The clucking…

Only the boy who cried wolf is impressed

  45. Hoodathunk says:

    “Are repugs human?”
So far science has not proved their relationship to the human race.

It would appear they are an aberrant sub species caused by over exposure to money. Evidence also indicates it is dying out due to a high incidence of mental instability, most probably a result of inbreeding and a diminished gene pool.

Sub species identification can be made by repeated involuntary verbal flatulence and other types of incontinence.

  46. Tallygirl says:

  47. Tallygirl says:

I think this may be an occation for an “oh, snap!” but my teenagers aren’t here for me to confirm.

Good one, though. The former Bush advisors need to get a real job and stay off the airwaves and realize that 1)people don’t care what they think anymore (if ever) and 2)the adults are in charge now and have work to do so run along.

  48. curtisteff says:

So let me get this straight.

    Invading another nation without cause
    Kidnapping and torturing people
    Spying on your own citizens
    Destroying the world economy

That doesn’t denigrate the office of the president. But walking into the oval office without a coat and tie does?

  49. GREENTAIL says:

Next time you see Card ask him if he wore his suit coat when Bush sent him out for cheeseburgers.

  50. cab02149 says:

Andrew Card getting cheeseburgers is about right. That is what he did when he was a Republican rep. in a Democratic house in Massachusetts. Andrew Card is a blank slate. The invisible man.
But he took a lifetime chance when he accepted a job offer from Bush.
He is a Republican ‘Made Man” now.
Wealthier, with lucrative speaking engagements open to him, to preach to the choir.
An amazing story for such a zero.

  51. SqueakyRat says:

I like short sleeves ’cause I can roll’em all the way up to my shoulders. Looks kinda funny.

  52. Mihalyka says:

I heartily agree. But Axelrod’s superb rhetoric is somewhat diminished because he got the phrase wrong. It is SHIRT SLEEVES, meaning no jacket. He could have said something like, “Yeah, we’re in shirt sleeves because, frankly, we needed the extra mobility considering how much shit of yours we have to start shoveling out of here.”

  53. vegjeannie says:

Actually, if you watch the video, he does clearly say “shirt” sleeves, not “short” sleeves: http://tinyurl.com/benl7w

  54. Dave11 says:

    Thank you Mr. Axelrod!

These Republican’t ditto-heads need to be called out more by all Democrats and some Republicans (if any remain with courage and decency).

  55. Dave11 says:

    vegjeannie –

Then he is quoted wrong by the Post, as they have
“We’re wearing short sleeves because we have to roll up our sleeves and clean up the mess that we inherited.”
    on their web site.

  56. Mihalyka says:

Thanks vegjeannie. So Axelrod’s rejoinder is doubly good (and better than my lame revision).

  57. lapdogs says:

Thank-you Dave Axelrod ‘for slamming Card in the back of his head with your knuckles’.

It’s about time somebody knocks some reality into these clowns that left this country in such a mess!!
