Bush’s first post-presidency speaking engagement to be in Canada.

bushcanada.jpg One of George W. Bush’s post-presidency goals was to hit the lecture circuit and — in his words — make a “ridiculous” amount of money. The Dallas Morning News reports that Bush’s first speaking engagement will be “a conversation with George W. Bush” on March 17 in Canada. The former president will reportedly “share his thoughts on his eight momentous years in the Oval Office.” The event is not open to the public and “organizers declined to say whether Bush will be paid a fee.” However, the Canadian firm managing the lunch paid President Clinton $150,000 for a March 2006 speech.

Update Presidents traditionally make their first foreign trips to Canada. However, Bush broke with this tradition and surprised people by going to Mexico in 2001. Obama's first trip will be to Canada.

  3. gus smith says:

Hopefully there are some active organizations in Canada planning to prosecute Bush.

  4. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Maybe we should try to get officials from The Hague to “intercept” Bush on the way to the interview. If it happens in another country, there’s nothing we can do to stop it. (Hee-hee.)

  5. Crusty Old Bastard says:

Just keep his passport when he leaves so he can’t come back.

  6. Wayne A. Schneider says:

BTW, since Bush has admitted that he committed War Crimes, why hasn’t he been ordered to forfeit his passport?

  7. NOLIESPLEASE says:

Did you notice they did not mention where in Canada??? Wait til this news breaks here.

On his last trip, we the Canadian lined the car route and on mass FLIPED YOUR FORMER PRESIDENT THE BIRD WITH LARGE SIGNS TELLING YOUR EX PREZ TO F’EN DIE AND EAT SHITE…OH MASS.

He even made a reference to it in his press conference.

I’m sorry if we had to express what the American people werer affraid to express.

We all look forward to Obamas visit. No Birds, No Signs, just peace bongs and a smile from the friendly Canadian people.

  11. rastaman says:

good…….the Canadians can arrest him there. rendition his ass to the Hague.

  12. misshusseinmolly says:

And of course it will be a “private” event. Bush wouldn’t speak in front of anyone who wasn’t screened for loyalty when he was President — why would he start now?

  13. Tallygirl says:

I initially read that as “share his thoughts on his eight MONSTEROUS years in the Oval Office”.

Are there any warrants in Canada?

  14. Bozo The Neoclown says:

43 ought to consider himself lucky if a) the canadians give him free lunch nevermind a fee and b) we let his arse back in this country.

  15. Marie says:

What’s the purpose other than to make a few more bucks?

Is he trying to sway Canadian opinion of him before Obama gets there and shows them a real president?

  16. larkohio says:

Imagine, there are people who would actually pay money to listen to him speak?! Boggles the mind! Heck, we would have paid money years ago if he would have just agreed to go away!

  17. Dumb Fox the Average Golfer says:

    Writer Thomas Tusser quote

“A fool and his money are soon parted”

Take that to heart our Canadian friends…….

  19. DvlsAdvocat says:

Maybe he should go speak in the streets and markets in Iraq, since its so peaceful and safe there now? Maybe buy a few rugs? They probably don’t have the speaking fee to pay him, but he would have enough shoes to last a lifetime….

  20. Zimzone says:

If they can threaten an Olympic champion with hard time for being in the same room with a water pipe, they can damn well bring charges against Bush and Cheney for the senseless murder of citizens in their own county. -The Pen 2-12-09

  21. Chuck Feney says:

The event is not open to the public and “organizers declined to say whether Bush will be paid a fee.”

    Unnamed organizers.
    Undisclosed location.
    Public barred.
    No financial transparency.

More same old same old. Good thing he’s gone.

  22. jsj20002 says:

The Bush Administration captured a Canadian citizen and sent him to Syria for torture. Canada is a member of the International Criminal Court and would be legally bound to surrender the former president to the ICC if requested to do so. The ICC has clear jurisdiction over war crimes committed in Afghanistan, another member of the ICC. If Canada does not send Mr. Bush to the Hague, Canada will be violating international law. If I were Mr. Bush’s lawyer, I would not let him go to Canada under any circumstances.

  23. ScaryBrownHusseinChick (ThinkOutsideTheBush) says:

I might just be willing to pay him NOT to speak. Stay home, chimpo!

  24. ralph the wonder llama says:

I was hoping his first foreign trip would be to Holland.

Obama visits Canada next week. Obama will be in Ottawa for about 5 hours. Bush’s trip is likely to be to Alberta and last for longer on March 17.

Canada has a large percentage of right-wing wanna-be neocons whose opinion of Bush is the same as your 20 percenters. But the majority here can clearly see that Obama is far and away a much better President already than Bush ever was. Listening to Bush again will definitely not change opinions.

  27. LibertyLover says:

The event is not open to the public…

No surprise there…No different than his whole term in office…. Hand picked audiences…same song, different day.

Why does this man get to be protected from real people that have real questions for him?

What a treat for those Canadians. Paying money to hear the english language mutilated. I live in Florida so canadians are not real high on my list of favorite people this time of year but then again they are stimulating the economy (Maybe)

  37. corvus says:

Remember folks this is Alberta, the most conservative province in Canada. It’s the only place in Canada he could visit without being a winter boot target. Paying Bush to speak is kinda funny when you think about it.

  38. Curlew says:

Great. He’ll be out of the country. Perhaps the United Nations police force can arrest the bastard in Canada and haul him off to The Hague for justice. Please. Please Please.

  39. MapleStreet says:

Any chance some folks can get in with shirts carrying the outline of a shoe ?

    #26 livelongandprosper,
I will take some comfort in your words.

Do you think Bush might utter one of his unique comments while in Canada? Remember this one on “peance and freeance”?

I just wonder who would be willing to sit and watch this worm lie some more. We’ve had a lifetime dose of his lies!

  43. SaraBeth says:

Oh! Priceless! Once the word gets out WHERE he is speaking, expect protests… Loud ones!

No more “free speech zones” for you MR. Bush…. you are going to finally hear from the great unwashed….it is going to come as a very rude awakening how much you are loathed.

  44. Fool Zero says:

Let’s hope the Canadians don’t give him too hard a time. We wouldn’t want to discourage him from any trips to, say, the Netherlands later.

  45. jeanette deldin says:

Speaking of morons, that is you people here on this blog.
You are so easy to fool, you actually bought the Henrietta scam.
I see this a lot, when you dont have anything nice to say, you say anything. Did you ever hear of “if you have nothing good to say keep your mouth shut”.

  46. MapleStreet says:

Sorry Jeanette, but silence implies consent. To say nothing is how we got into Iraq

  47. wiley says:

Perhaps you’d be comfortable in North Korea, jeanette.

And paraphrasing Thumper doesn’t seem all that adult, much less conducive to a lively democracy.

  48. Robert M. says:

I believe Obama should hold off on prohibiting extraordinary rendition flights just long enough to round up the bush “administration” and deliver them at Taxpayer expense before the tribunal in the Hague.

  49. HughJass says:

Here is the story in the local paper to see how Calgarians feel about this.

  50. SP Biloxi says:

Good luck to the Canadians. Hope there is a large protest for the Clown former President’s arrival. The Canadians are very verbal about how much they hate Bush. Interesting that Bush’s first international trip was Mexico in 2001. And my guess is that he got all of the cheapest tequila liquor to bring back to Crawford Ranch.

  51. NorthernLite says:

Whatever did we do to deserve that goofball to come up here uAnd spew his incoherent nonsense. Other that elect that Bushovian leg humper Little Stevie Harper. Oh never mind.

  54. Fontsdeleon says:

I wonder if his speaking style will be different than when he was in office. I wonder if he finishes a sentence when speaking privately. That’s a lot of money for a word stumbler.

  59. otebryan says:

Thank you president Bush. because of your service muslim killers who murder in the name of their god were not allowed a second chance of 9/11. We can forgive them for killing our children. We can not forgive them for making us kill theirs. I do not envy the position of a president at war but am thankful Mr Bush kept our nation safe. After reading all the comments I would guess some here might label me a “redneck religous freak” in anycase we are happy to welcome the Bush’s home to Dallas and are proud of them. So hurl personal insults at me for not agreeing with you if you like. I am proud of a man who cared more about the safety of every american than his image in media. President Obama has our prayers in a succesful term to keep this nation safe from attacks, as this is the highest priority of any president.
