Beck praises 9/11 widow after professing his hatred for 9/11 families in 2005.

beck.jpgYesterday on his Fox News television show, Glenn Beck professed his deep concern for Beverly Eckert, a 9/11 widow who died in Thursday night’s plane crash in Buffalo. “After the attacks, she became a vocal activist for families of 9/11 victims,” Beck said in praising Eckert. “She pushed for the 9/11 Commission. She demanded answers from the government, and helped win the passage of the Intelligence Reform law.” David Neiwert recalls Beck’s earlier screed against the families of 9/11 victims:

You know, it took me about a year to start hating the 9/11 victims’ families. It took me about a year. Um, and I had such compassion for them and I really, you know, I wanted to help them, and I was behind — let’s give them money, let’s get them started, and all of this stuff. And I really didn’t — all the 3,000 victims’ families, I don’t hate all of them, I hate about, probably about ten of them. But when I see 9/11 victim family, you know, on television, or whatever, I’m just like, ‘Oh, shut up.’ I’m so sick of them. Because they’re always complaining. And we did our best for them. And again, it’s only about ten.

Update The New York Times documents Eckert's role in pushing for the 9/11 Commission:

With a group of other relatives of people who had been killed, Ms. Eckert traveled to Washington for a meeting with elected officials. They heard all the reasons why a country at war should not lay bare how its defenses had failed.

“I’ll never forget it,” Ms. Ashley remembered. “Beverly said, ‘Are you going to stand here and look me in the eye and tell me we are not going to have an investigation into the death of my husband and the relatives of all the other people in this room?’”

A commission was created. Ms. Eckert and other family members went to the White House for the announcement and to learn who would be running the investigation.

“We were just so relieved,” Ms. Eckert told Washington Monthly. “And then Bush brings Henry Kissinger into the room. I couldn’t believe it.’”

When the families and others demanded that he disclose the foreign clients of his international consulting firm, Mr. Kissinger withdrew.

The government stalled the commission’s investigators, balked at permitting testimony from officials like Condoleezza Rice, and tried to cut short the inquiries. In every instance, the commission, stiffened by the nonnegotiable insistence of the families, forced the administration to retreat. Ms. Eckert attended just about all of the sessions.

“She had this rare ability to separate the part of her that was grieving from the part that was rational, objective, analytic,” said John Farmer, who served as senior counsel to the commission.

With other families, she kept going back to Washington to press for enactment of the 9/11 Commission reforms. Last month, they met with the chairman of a commission on weapons of mass destruction.

In early 2005, she sent an e-mail message from a boat in Florida. “Somehow,” she wrote, “I feel more at peace with Sean’s death, having had the opportunity to help change our government — hopefully, for the better.”

There is no end to shameless idiots who spout stupidity after stupidity.

The only way..the only way, is to make this genre of revisionistic, corporate-sponsored propaganda is to make corporations who indulge in it lose money.

The perpetual lashing out at these surrogates is a waste of time. Go after the sponsors. It is the one and only effective way to have an impact.

If TP really wants to make a difference, publish an updated list of Beck’s sponsors rather than posting the latest impotent outrage and goosing people to post equally-impotent hand-wringing. We’re already aware that Beck is a clown who has no integrity. Tell us something new, like which sponsors to hold responsible for paying his salary to spout nonsense.

I’m not going to say that liberals never wish violence upon anyone, because clearly some do (and I wish they wouldn’t.) But where liberals are more likely to not mind if harm comes to some scumwad like Beck (while not actually wishing it on him), conservatives like Turner not only wish violence upon others, they proudly claim they’ll lead the charge to kill people. I posted about RTLM on an earlier thread, but JP, I’d suggest you look ‘em up to see where these hate radio jocks get their ideas.

RTLM was a Rwandan radio station and directly responsible for fomenting racial violence:

Widely listened to by the general population, it projected racist propaganda against Tutsis, moderate Hutus, Belgians, and the United Nations mission UNAMIR. It is widely regarded as having played a crucial role in creating the atmosphere of charged racial hostility that allowed the genocide to occur.

This is not a new tactic on the part of idiots like Beck and Turner and O’Reilly.

(I apologize for it’s length but it is worth it!)

    AMERICA’S SABOTEURS:

Republicans AREN’T making a sincere effort to stop the bleeding their incompetent leadership and failed policies created. Instead, they’re using conflicting economic theories as a smokescreen to conceal their real agenda, which is to undermine President Obama and cause him and America to fail.

Republicans are practicing SUBVERSIVE forms of demagoguery and guerrilla obstructionism that are intended to destabilize our economy for purposes of political exploitation.

Republicans are preposterously professing that their disgraceful political whoring had nothing to do with the banking, real estate, stock market and employment catastrophes that resulted.

Republicans are trying to hamstring Obama to prevent him from undoing the incompetent negligence of George W. Bush.

Republicans are offering up subjective controversial arguments they know no one can agree on in order to disrupt and deny progressive change. They’d rather divide America and create political gridlock than endure the political consequences of effective Democratic governance. That’s how they gained power and that’s how they’re trying to retain it.

Republicans are not the LOYAL OPPOSITION. They are the ENEMY WITHIN whose political priorities have eroded their moral and ethical standards to the point that treachery and betrayal are their preferred methods of operation.

It’s one thing to vigorously advocate their conservative beliefs; it’s another thing entirely for them to willfully sabotage America’s government because a successful Democratic president would not be vulnerable to the fears and hatreds that have produced and sustained the radical Republican corporatism and extremism that have poisoned and divided America.

This morning on NPR, host Steve Inskeep asked right-wing pundit Glenn Beck who the “rising star” is in the conservative movement. Beck’s response? Defeated senator Rick Santorum. “I think the guy is a Winston Churchill in many ways,” said Beck.

“You know, there’s really only one guy that I’ve talked to that I really really like. I think the guy is a Winston Churchill in many ways. He blew his Senate campaign because he spoke the truth. His advisers kept saying, ‘Don’t say this, don’t say this, this is going to hurt you.’

“And that’s Rick Santorum out of Pennsylvania. I think this guy really has it. I think he really understands the world we live in right now.”…………..more

    OT –

I could barely contain my laughter and my farting with these little gems:

I’ll never forget the anguish in his voice. “You have no choice, son,” he said. “You’ve simply got to take that military deferment.” I felt punched in the gut. “No!” I shouted. “No, damn you! No! That’s the fifth time you’ve done this to me!”

It was heartbreaking. He looked at me with those sad, defeated eyes and rasped, “Mr. Vice President, I let you down.” Well, what could I say? I put my hand on his shoulder and said, “No, please, never think that way.” But, inside, I was angry with him. I wanted to shout, “Christ, Harry, what in hell were you doing, poking your big face right into my line of fire?”

    How could I’ve missed these?

his last quote almost made me vomit to death.

Jane Velez-Mitchell, the HLN host who replaced Glenn Beck when he jumped ship for Fox News, is already topping Beck’s ratings from when he held the time slot.

In its third full month on the air, “Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell” posted HLN’s largest 7PM audience since it launched its primetime block in February 2005. For January 2009, “Issues” averaged 531,000 total viewers and 221,000 Adults 25-54, a 50% increase in total viewers and a 46% increase in the demo over Beck’s January 2008 ratings.

Velez-Mitchell’s January ratings also represent an 8% increase in total viewers and a 19% increase in the demo over Beck’s last (and best) month on HLN. Beck’s last full month on the air there was September 2008, when he averaged 492,000 total viewers and 185,000 in the demo. Velez-Mitchell took over the time slot on October 17.

But I know those people were inaccessible to me. 108. spanky1984 says:

off topic but something of interest

The US government has given Citigroup $45 billion in direct cash injections while guaranteeing another $291 billion of the banks toxic (worthless) assets. Citi’s cost to the taxpayer now totals $336 billion.

Think you over paid? You did. The entire market capitalization of Citigroup is only $19 billion which means that anyone can buy the entire company and assume full control for $19 billion. Taxpayers have paid Citi almost 18 times what the entire company is worth, while receiving no control, voting rights, or even an ATM fee reversal!

Bank of America is a similar story. $183 billion in injections and guarantees of worthless assets on a company that can be bought and controlled entirely for $27 billion.

Bank of America and Citigroup have already cost the US taxpayer a whopping $519 billion.

To put things in better perspective, at $519 billion, you could completely own and control General Motors, Alcoa, American Express, The Disney Corporation, McDonalds, Home Depot, Hewlett Packard, Merck, Du Pont, Boeing, Caterpillar, Intel, 3M, and Kraft foods while still having a cool $6 billion in cash left over.

Nearly half of a trillion dollars has gone to Citigroup and Bank of America alone. The government has overpaid by more than 11 times the total value of the two companies and has absolutely nothing to show for it. The taxpayers receive no dividend or interest payments, have no ownership or control, and are at the mercy of paying back interest and fees to organizations running on public money.

Think about that while you hear more about the “Nationalizing the banks” campaign being sold in the media. How much more are we to pay for these companies?

    2. Post something about Republicans sucking or hoping the Republican in the article dies.
    3. Wait for others to say the same thing.
    4. If someone has an opposing view, call them a fag or threaten to kill them.
    5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 until bedime.
Appreciate your help getting up-to-speed. Thanks.

  159. Tropics500 says:

Beck is a disgusting excuse for a human. A few years ago him and his wife were trying to adopt, her being barren. He went on a months long tirade that ALL single mothers should put their babies up for adoption. Finally some deluded listener contacted him and offered up her 16 year old daughters love child for the Becks to adopt. Poor child.
One time he advertised for weeks that he was going to take his crew to an abortion clinic and broadcast the actual procedure. People on both sides of the issue pleaded with him to not do it. At the end he said the woman backed out. Then he said it was a hoax all along.
At that point I contacted every one of his advertisers I could. One of them wrote me back and said that they had already decided that they would not be renewing their contract. Some didn’t write back, but I noticed that a few disappeared.
This scum needs to not be on the airwaves. If you don’t know how disgusting he is just listen for one week. He makes Limpballs seem like a nice guy. Then contact his advertisers and insist they drop him. Hit ‘em in the pocket. I beleive in free speech but this guy is nothing but a wingnut propagandist and we do have laws against propaganda in this country (although they’re not enforced, obviously).

And why are all reichwing propagandists also recovering drug addicts and/or sex perverts? I’m just sayin’.

Glenn “took the oath” because it was a cheap way to exchange his chemical dependence for god and the GOP. He does what a lot of weak people do: they cling to multiple “I’ll get clean” plans, then they try to prove their trustworthiness to any who will listen to their sob stories. In all reality though, they’re just the same P.O.S. they were when they stumbled through dark alleys in the wrong neighborhoods at 3 a.m. every other night…”when they were young and stupid”.

Beverly Eckert mocks both Glenn Beck and a deposed Bush presidential administration from a place neither will ever see for the rest of their lifetimes:

    OT…

TP has made it into the NY Times Opinion Page.

From Frank Rich, today…here it is..

As the liberal blog ThinkProgress reported, G.O.P. members of Congress wildly outnumbered Democrats as guests on all cable news networks, not just Fox News, in the three days of intense debate about the House stimulus bill.”

    We’re Famous :)

Mr. Rich ends his column on this cautionary note..

Republicans will also be judged by the voters. If they want to obstruct and filibuster while the economy is in free fall, the president should call their bluff and let them go at it. In the first four years after F.D.R. took over from Hoover, the already decimated ranks of Republicans in Congress fell from 36 to 16 in the Senate and from 117 to 88 in the House. The G.O.P. is so insistent that the New Deal was a mirage it may well have convinced itself that its own sorry record back then didn’t happen either.

  165. ricchase says:

ANY cursory examination of the issues, facts, theories surrounding the false flag operation known as “9/11″ raises an enormous amount of well founded suspicion that it was either orchestrated by, or allowed to happen with explicit beforehand knowledge by the George W. Bush criminal cabal. With Richard Cheney squarely in the middle of the entire thing. Followed by tireless, ruthless and illegal efforts to cover it up. Investigations were sidelined, thwarted and tainted by none other than Bush planted operatives that actually led and sat on the commission. One or two or three or four oddities could be perhaps understood. But wholesale revision of and altering of the facts, witnesses and evidence is simply too much to try and believe.

Until and if a new, credible and completely thorough re-investigation is conducted, the relatives, all Americans and the rest of the world will NOT know the truth about what happened on that hideously dark day. It is not nearly enough to know or hope that sometime in the distant future the truth will finally be known. The perpetrators of this murderous wound to humanity should have to face punishment now. Nearly all of the suspected guilty have blatantly demonstrated in many ways they care not about shame, disgrace and humility. They MUST be punished now. Not in the history books of the future. Decency and sanity deserve nothing less.

Actually there were questions raised by engineers. However it was difficult to analyze the steel since Rudolph Guliani almost immediately carted it off and sold it to China, avoiding close scrutiny. He is suspect in the eyes of many as being complicit in whatever happened behind the truth.

  179. aphinton says:

Beck did not say he hated all of the 911 families, He said he hated about 10 of them! Could it be he was comparing them to the many that went through the same grief at the lost of their loved ones, and endured the pain more discreetly, and did not think they needed to profit extravagantly in a monetary sense for their lost. Most of us have suffered loss of our loved ones without seeking all the publicity etc.
I guess whiners are just are a whole lot more understanding of other whiners. It would be nice if they could understand them that are not so given to self pity.

  180. tombaker says:

OR, aphinton, he could’ve said it because he’s a ratings whore creating drama out of thin air to keep mouthbreathers tuning in to his sad excuse for a show.

  183. drew3rd says:

I guess these particular 9/11 victims missed the part where planes rammed into their loved one’s buildings and killed everyone. Not a lot to investigate from a “how did they die?” perspective. I’m with Beck, we really rallied around these folks, sent money, men and material. All they do is complain about some cover up. Shut up!

  184. drlarrymitchell says:

  186. Fontsdeleon says:

The most difficult, excruciating thing to through in this life is the premature death of someone who means the world to you. My heart ached for those women who lost husbands. Especially in the way they lost them. I know from experience that you never really get over a loss of that magnitude.
And to hear Ann Coulter say what she said about those women…I couldn’t believe it. She might as well of thrown hand-grenades at them during their memorial services. There’s not enough obscenities in the world to accurately describe her or whatever Glen Beck is.

  187. drew3rd says:

Fontsdeleon, are you suggesting censorship? I for one agree with the idea that some of these people went a little loopy and were exploited to hurt the Shrub (think Cindy Sheehan). Accepting seriously deranged rhetoric as applicable from a compromised person is despicable. I wish more journalists would be concerned with the mental health of some of these people than they are. Beck and Coulter aren’t any different than the journalists who exploit these people, you just don’t like their point of view. Your willing to accdept their deranged rants because it is aimed at someone you dislike. Shame on you.

  188. wearechange says:

drew3rd, you’re a politically-vacillating phony conservative twit: so completely narrow-minded that you argue against your own position, and so morally bereft that you can’t identify obvious and blatant propaganda.

you’re the most idiotic poster i’ve seen at TP… ever.

  189. LiberalVoter says:

Beck and Coulter thrive on the hate of others by whipping it up. It is the way they make money, which is what they worship. And you insensitive reply shows just how morally bankrupt you are.
