Bush trying to beat ‘bad environment’ for fundraising by enlisting his dad and Karl Rove for help.

bushrovef.jpg U.S. News reports that the “crumbling economy” has “slowed” President Bush’s drive to raise $500 million for his presidential library at Southern Methodist University. One Bush friend acknowledged, “It’s a bad environment.” U.S News reports that “Bush is taking no chances: He’s making donor calls himself, and even his dad, the 41st president, is helping out, as are former aides like Karl Rove. In the future, say associates, look for Bush to host fundraising events in order to meet a goal of completing construction in 2013. But for now, ‘he’s laying low,’ says one.”

(ThinkProgress has been keeping a close eye on developments with the Bush library, and we will continue to do so. Read our related posts here.)

No one could have predicted the economy would tank and leave Bu$h’s efforts to legitimize his miserable failure of a presidency in shambles!

No one could have predicted airplanes smashing into buildings, or levees breaking in N.O., or…

    the list goes on…

Okay, explain to me again why any organization would build a library for a man who could not speak the English language properly? Who sat paralyzed for 7 minutes in an elementary school in Florida while the country was under attack (and endangering the students), listening to “My Pet Goat”? Who championed the failed “No Student Left Behind”?

Unless, of course, the building will be called The George W. Bush, Never Again Memorial Library!

There are BILLIONS AND BILLIONS from Iraq spending alone that is totally unaccounted by the military-industrial complex.

The criminal cabal behind dur chimpfurher stole even more across the rest of the federalt reasury.

They’re should be plenty of loot to build chimpy’s disney-style library and “catapult the propaganda” that he was a great leader.

    What gives?

I’m pretty sure he could house his ‘lie-berry’ in his garage, as how much room does he really need to display his sole book My Pet Goat?

Georgie, your “friends” had plenty of millions to throw at swiftboating, but that was when they could get something back from ya. Now? Not so much.

Here’s an idea for a fundraiser: Make a DVD of you mangling of the English language so parents can use it to warn their children about the dangers of remaining ignorant. And if they act by midnight tonight, a free copy of “My Pet Goat”.

    PEACE

The bad economy has little to do with GDumbya’s fundraising problems . . . there just isn’t much of a market for (p)residential fiction. In addition, poor GDumbya is in no position to do what he has always done before and “pay back” his donors with any more tax cuts for the rich, imperialistic wars, no-bid contracts and elimination of business regulation.

The quickest way is to rename the library, “The George W. Bush Coal Sludge Spill,” transplant the location to Tennessee, and devote the funds to an interactive cautionary information center and superfund site dedicated to prevention of drydrunk failures enacting disastrous policies.

Hell, I’d chip in for that….

Hello, W1. A restroom would be the perfect location, but we’re all commoners; out input doesn’t count. I’m sure they’d have no problem taking up the idea of using shredded documents for insulation, however. Or maybe as confetti for the grand opening.

Most libraries actually have resources to aid job-seekers. Time spent in the Bush library would have the effect of making one unemployable (lost brain cells, anyone?). There is a remedy, however. Once a person exits the Bush library, they should immediately run to the campus library (SMU) for a rinse-off.

Bush reminds me of the guy who takes a dump in his own well and then complains that his water’s undrinkable. It’s a bit hard to muster up any sympathy for him.

But surely there was SOME beneficiary of the last eight years — somebody for whom the deregulation, the tax cuts, the no-bid crony contracts, the environment where house-of-cards financial structures could be built, etc. enriched them greatly. Some parties who made out like bandits as a result of Dubya policies. Wouldn’t they gratefully pay back their benefactor to show their appreciation?

Hmmm…I guess there’s not much honor among thieves.

  26. tombaker says:

Rent a locker in the Midland Greyhound station, or a foot or two of shelfspace in Crawford’s RIF-mobile.

To do it in grand Bush fashion, they should just put up a few signs for it along the interstate and pocket the rest of the cash.

    Then, at 12:30. watchdog Says:

The royal family of Saudi Arabia gave the Clinton facility in Little Rock about $10 million

Several foreign governments gave at least $1 million, including the Middle Eastern nations of Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the governments of Taiwan and Brunei.

In addition, a handful of Middle Eastern business executives and officials also gave at least $1 million each, according to the interviews. They include Saudi businessmen Abdullah al-Dabbagh, Nasser al-Rashid and Walid Juffali, as well as Issam Fares, a U.S. citizen who previously served as deputy prime minister of Lebanon.

Clinton has also been challenged by members of Congress for accepting a reported $450,000 donation to his library from the former wife of fugitive financier Marc Rich before he granted Rich a pardon for tax evasion in 2001

In other words, for TPers, “Bush Did It” in the first month of the new administration is “whining” to distract from “all of the not so favorable” news out of Washington.

Interesting that Bush, himself, has to raise money for his My Pet Goat Library and the date for library to go live is 2013. And I notice he can’t get the big corporations to fund his library in this bad economy. Bush is going to find it differcult to get the big banks who receive or going to receive TARP money to donate since the Obama and Geithner are watching every dime of where the taxpayers’ money is going to.

The bad economy has little to do with GDumbya’s fundraising problems . . . there just isn’t much of a market for (p)residential fiction.

Let’s differentiate: “West Wing,” “The American President,” and several Tom Clancy novels featuring Jack Ryan as prez are worth reading/watching. They’re fiction ABOUT presidents.

Botch would be producing fiction BY a president if he wrote. And those who write about his “legacy” will either be damning it [nonfiction] or praising it: LIES, not fiction.
