Pat Robertson denounces Rush Limbaugh’s comments: He’s ‘not exactly thinking rationally.’

In an interview with U.S. News, conservative televangelist Pat Robertson decried the recently-passed economic recovery package as “a disaster,” but emphasized that he wants President Obama to succeed. “We don’t want a president who fails at domestic and foreign policy,” Robertson said, adding that he thought Rush Limbaugh’s “I hope he fails” comment was “a terrible thing to say”:

robertsond.jpgQ: So you don’t subscribe to Rush Limbaugh’s “I hope he fails” school of thought?

ROBERTSON: That was a terrible thing to say. I mean, he’s the president of all the country. If he succeeds, the country succeeds. And if he doesn’t, it hurts us all. Anybody who would pull against our president is not exactly thinking rationally.

Last December, Robertson praised Obama for picking a “middle-of-the road Cabinet.” But he has since changed his tune, complaining that Obama is “showing partisanship” through his cabinet appointments.

Update Flashback: In 2003, Robertson suggested that a nuclear device should be used to wipe out the State Department.

  6. Daddy-O says:

Pat Robertson? Telling us that someone–ANYONE–ever Rush Limbaugh–is not speaking rationally?

The same person that said God sent hurricanes to Florida to punish Supreme Court nominees by Bill Clinton? Just look at what this idiot has said, and one thing is certain:

If anyone knows the LACK of rationality, it’s Pat Robertson.

The 2004 election has given us all the 2008 nomination of Barack Obama.

    …what gives Pat?

You are not exactly known for rational thought.

  14. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

Why of course Pat Robertson decries President Obama’s stimulus package, after all Pat is a republican. If this had been a republican presidents stimulus package you would see Pat and every other republican support it 100%.

Question: Is President Obama going to allow the Bush tax cuts to continue until they expire in 2010? Or are the democrats going to change it and eliminate the tax cuts for the wealthy??

I ask because I heard a month or so ago that in order for President Obama to get some republican support he would continue the Bush tax cuts until they expire sometime in 2010. Since he isn’t getting much support from the republicans shouldn’t he just end the tax cuts ASAP!

  15. CageyCretin says:

Incredible. I mean, Pat actually said something that is true?

    Wow. I feel dizzy.

Of course, he did NOT go as far as he would have if Rush were anything BUT republican: the actual truth: the comment is anti-America (for the reasons that Pat explained) and traitorous in its intention. He softened the “traitor” comment that DOES apply to Rush’s wishes to “not thinking rational”. Call ‘em as they ARE, Pat.

  16. krazeeinjun says:

“That was a terrible thing to say.”

Pat must be beginning to realize his own judgement day is nearing and is trying to score some desperate last minute make up points for all the stupid and cruel things he’s said over the years.

    Just saying . . .

  17. Robert M. says:

The presidential cabinet is intended to supply the president with feet on the ground to help carry out the policy the president sets. Most serve as heads of various federal agencies.

The members of the president’s cabinet HAVE to be in agreement with the policy the president sets in their area of authority, else they would pull their agency in a opposing direction and subvert those policies.

Now, please tell me, which cabinet officials of the recently deposed bush administration stood in opposition to the neo-Con policies followed by bush? And yet I can’t recall hearing robertson speaking out about the partisanship of bush’s administration.

To put it more bluntly, the republican party has become irrelevant. It has no ideas that address the problems we face. They appear to believe tax cuts are a solution to the financial crisis, when it was republican tax cuts that helped create the problem. Throwing gasoline on a burning house is no help.

  18. fletc3her says:

I never hoped that George W Bush would fail. Far from it. I hoped that he would succeed in disaster recover in New Orleans and rebuilding the Gulf Coast. I hoped that the Iraq war would go as swimmingly well as they predicted. I hoped that he would be able to balance our personal privacy with the needs of our national defense. I hoped that he would take hold of our national spirit on 9/11. I hoped that his rhetoric about the environment and energy independence were true.

Of course, the reality of eight years of failure crushed my hope completely. All I was left with was my cynical fear that George W Bush would turn out to be one of the worst President’s ever.

  27. larkohio says:

My God! I never thought I would say this, but Pat Robertson is right, Rush is irrational! He’s been irrational for a long time. How Rush has such a following is beyond me. He is such a slimey mean person. So good on Robertson!

  28. Marie says:

When Pat Robertson claims Rush is not thinking rationally, I think we are witnessing a phenomenon rarely seen.
This comes from the man who hears messages from God to a man whose ego makes him believe he is god.

Each of them is just taking up space on earth.

  29. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

Another Question: Why was the media so outraged and gave so much coverage over the Madoff scandal and yet you do not hear the same outrage over the billions of dollars lost, stolen or missing in Iraq? I guess when some wealthy Americans get screwed out of millions it is headline news but when the average tax payer gets screwed…not much of a headline.

Why aren’t the republican’ts outraged over the billions of dollars lost, stolen or missing in Iraq? Why aren’t the republican’ts (And Democrats) outraged over the $2.3 trillion that former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld admitted was unaccounted for back in 2001?

Don’t think so. Robertson doesn’t need Rush. Republican Politicians need Rush because he can destroy them and keep them from getting elected or raising money, etc.. Robertson doesn’t need anything from Rush Limbaugh.

  31. Another Joe says:

    Uncle Fester Lurks Says:

I know its rhetorical question, but have to answer anyhow.

The repugs/neocons don’t say BOO because it was the criminal cabal behind dur chimpfurher that stole the money via the military-industrial complex (which oil and much of the mainstream media is now a part of).

  37. misshusseinmolly says:

I doubt that Pat is waxing support for Obama as much as he’s pointing out that Rush is saying a politically boneheaded thing when he publicly hopes that Obama will fail.

Think about it. If the reality is that your own party screwed up, the other side got a charismatic standard bearer with actual intelligence and leadership qualities, and it looks like they’re going to do a better job than your party did — is it smart to say what you honestly think? That you hope for this guy’s failure because that’s the quickest way to regain power?

The Republicans think this is a football game. The other team has the ball and a set of downs. The Reps are going to do everything they can to keep the Dems from advancing the ball, and they are going to be pushing hard for fumbles and sacks.

But even though we all know this, it’s still good political practice to publicly wish the president to succeed. After all, if you want to make your point that the other party’s policies are doomed to failure, you don’t have to wish for it or hope for it — you can confidently predict it’s going to happen. And then you get to say “I told you so” when it does.

Wishing and hoping merely underscores a lack of confidence in their failure, and fear of their success. And saying so publicly confirms everybody’s suspicion that party means much more than country. Pat seems to “get” this much better than Rush.

Ummm , Pat ; your statement encompasses the ENTIRE GOP.

It exposes the problem with elected officials in this country ; that they’re simply only interested in their own careers and asses , and not what they are actually elected to office for , which is to work together for the betterment of the US and its citizens………..

  41. Hoodathunk says:

Since Pat does not hold an elected position, I don’t agree that the pressure to apply libs to a spam moon will follow. Yeah, there will be flack but I don’t expect full groveling.

Besides, this has all the earmarks of being an influence war and Pat is a scrapper. Boneheaded but he isn’t going to hand even a little piece of the leadership mantle to someone like Rush.

  42. kasinca says:

Pat Robertson is looking at paying income taxes for his political activities. He is trying to straighten up and fly right for a change. Of course Limpbone is not thinking rationally…he is on drugs.

  44. DaTruth says:

Limbaugh needs help. His hatred is an outburst of frustration and despair. His hope for Obama’s failure is foolish and childish. Bush has brought more failure than this country can handle. We are drenched in failure thanks to Bush.

  45. Nevar says:
