Poll: Majority of Americans disapproved of congressional GOP during stimulus fight.

Over the past several weeks, Republicans have bragged about their unity in opposing President Obama’s economic recovery package, predicting that their obstruction would “give us a shot in the arm going forward.” However, a new AP/GFK poll taken during the final days of the fight over the stimulus bill shows that Americans overwhelmingly disapprove of Republican efforts to block Obama’s plan:

Congress’ approval is only 31%-59%, but additional questions show a much more complicated picture. The number for Congressional Democrats is at 49%-45%, while Republicans are at 33%-59%. The Republicans appear to be cramping Congress’ style. [...]

Only 30% say Obama hasn’t done enough to cooperate with Republicans in Congress — the GOP base vote, basically — while 62% say he’s doing the right amount and 6% say it’s been too much. Flipping it around, only 27% say Republicans have done enough to cooperate with Obama, with 64% saying not enough and 5% saying too much.

Meanwhile, people are increasingly confident that Obama is leading the country in the right direction. Since Obama’s election, there’s been a 23 percent rise in those saying the country is headed in the right direction. In October, only 17 percent of Americans felt that way, while 78 percent thought the country was headed in the wrong direction.

FACT: RepuBillys love with a passion to “Spread the Poverty” as a demented strategy to create a vulnerable workforce (commercial and military) of victims (slaves) they can easily “hate for being poor”, exploit, and enforce their own deranged brand of “darwinism”

See any final Election results Map and it is clear with most of the South being Red that the “civil war” rages forth!

Most obvious is that the ones still craving the good ol’ days of Imperialist slavery are still the Richest men paying to train (Lush) the mass majority (regular folk) to also crave being enslaved and exploited by a small band of self-declared Southern “Owners

Funnel the Wealth” for 8 years to Bush’s self proclaimed “have-mores” wealthiest 3% who he promised would “create the factories and business for jobs for Americans

Clearly all total lies 180 degrees opposite to any actual truth!

  34. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    Mr Finkelstein,

The number for Congressional Democrats is at 49%-45%, while Republicans are at 33%-59%. The Republicans appear to be cramping Congress’ style.

Why is there a four-point span for the Democratic support, but a 26% span for the Republican support? Is this a typo? It translates to “between one-third and three-fifths”.

    Just curious.

I hate to bring people down, but polls, any polls that are not of the complete population, cannot possibly indicate how three hundred million people feel about something.

  35. belac says:

I hate to bring people down, but polls, any polls that are not of the complete population, cannot possibly indicate how three hundred million people feel about something.

But they can show us trends over time… and it appears that the trend is support for the Stimulus and Obama and disdain for R’s and obstruction…

  36. COProgressive says:

Reminds me of something Trent Lott said…..

“Why is there a four-point span for the Democratic support, but a 26% span for the Republican support? Is this a typo? It translates to “between one-third and three-fifths”.”

That’s what I thought at first, but I think its: Approve – Disapprove percentages (separated by the hyphen).

  38. ralph the wonder llama says:

Good call, 666lattes. I think you nailed it.

  39. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    belac,

With all due respect, the published results of all polls are the result of statistical manipulation, based on a great many assumptions. If a pollster crunched the numbers and came up with a result that was wildly off the mark from previous polls, they just won’t publish it. They keep their methodology secret precisely so we won’t know how they are manipulating the numbers. I do not believe polls of 1,000 people are a reliable indication of anything, unless it’s the same 1,000 people answering the same questions.

I’ve gone on about this at great length in previous discussions, so I won’t bore anybody further with my opinions. I believe polling is an area where statistical analysis is misused.

  40. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    666lattes,

Thank you. I had not noticed that. I believe you are correct. I apologize for the disruption. I’ll leave now. Good night, all.

  41. belac says:

Fair enough Wayne, but I still think the trends are interesting with regard to the Approve/Disapprove questions specifically…

  42. Marie says:

Imagine what the percentage would be if the media were to report facts and information instead of he-said-she-said.

People are fed up with partisan bickering and they see it now as harmful to the general well-being of America; but when the media continues to report it half-heartedly, and not indicate how the opposition is obstructing progress, a certain number of the populace, remains misinformed.

Polls themselves are questionable in accuracy, nonetheless, our country is guided by them.

  43. 666lattes says:

Wayne, as a fan of free-will and infinite possibilities I ultimately want what you’re saying to be true, but sadly, I belive that predictable patterns in human behavior that can be quantified in sample sizes (currently) do exist.

fivethirtyeight.com had amazingly accurate analysis based on polls throught the Presidential campaign that can’t be explained any other way.

  44. Mathazar says:

I reckon most Americans have three main issues they’er concerned about; health insurance, jobs, and getting the economy rolling again. The democrats are steadfastly seeking
solutions, while all the republicans want to do is impede any
    progress.

  45. Doc Rock says:

You have to wonder at the intelligence of some of those who supported the Reug’s anti-class stance.

  46. Cal Malenky says:

A majority of those polled disapprove of the GOP. Therefore in the with-us-or-against-us mindset of the GOP, they are the enemy. Therefore, the GOP can feel justified in screwing them over by impeding any and all of President Obama’s initiatives.
The GOP is going down and they want to take as many people with them as they can.

Where’s the transparancy that Obama and the Fed promised when even bloomberg needs to sue the government for disclosure on what they’re doing with our money?

Uhh, Bloomberg sued the fed in early November of 2008… how exactly can Obama be transparent if he hasn’t been elected yet, let alone inaugurated?

    belac,

Yes they sued in November. But there’s been no enforcement by Obama’s administration to pressure the Fed. The recent plans on housing and bank rescues has no details, hence, the market getting angry at the lack of disclosures and details.

  54. belac says:

    adviceguy,

The stimulus plan is available online and all versions were as they were being discussed.

Details of both the housing plan and new bank bail outs are emerging but there’s nothing on paper yet, ’cause there’s nothing on paper yet.

    Also there’s this…

I don’t recall one of these interweb site thingies in the Bush White House…

  55. belac says:

Do you need Obama to personally call you with updates, adviceguy?
That ain’t gonna happen… but you could just read the announcements at http://www.recovery.gov/
(I posted it again so you’d be sure to see it)

There’s the transparency that Obama promised, are you looking through it or purposely over looking it?

  56. belac says:

    Ohh, advice guy!

I found a FAQ for you at http://www.recovery.gov! (that’s Frequently Asked Question for you interweb newbies…)

    Here it is:

Q: I heard I’d be able to track recovery funds. Why can’t I do that?
A: You aren’t able to track funds yet because we have not yet started receiving information from Federal agencies on how they are going to allocate the money. It takes a little bit of time for them to make sure your money is going to be spent wisely. Right now, the site features an overview of the law and an explanation of what it is intended to accomplish. You will have access to data as soon as we begin receiving it from agencies.

    That clear things up, adviceguy?
