Security for the Bush family costing Dallas more than $1 million annually.

The Star-Telegram has a report on the tight security surrounding George W. and Laura Bush’s move into their Dallas home. Police officers have been turning away vehicles trying to enter the Preston Hollow neighborhood, “explaining that it is closed to the general public.” While there will soon be a private security gate going up (paid for by the Bush family, not the federal government as previously reported), the city is racking up close to $1 million annually in security expenses for the former president. They have also “barricaded the entrance to Daria Drive, allowing only neighbors and people on a special list to enter.” One resident a few doors down said he has yet to even be allowed to “walk down by the Bush home.”

Voters want to finally share that beer with Bush. They need to drown the misery George W. created over his eight years of abysmal leadership.

I remember in 2001 when Bill Clinton left office, the wingnut blogs went crazy over the price tag for Secret Service and other security protection for the Clintons. It seems to me that ANY ex-president (or his widow) will cost a fair amount to protect, regardless of what party that president was from, or what kind of job he did in office. Why the hell is the city of Dallas responsible for their protection? I mean, why should they go above and beyond what they would do with anyone else? Any special protection measures that the police don’t usually do for anyone should be paid by the Bush’s. They need to hire a private security firm. I’ll bet Blackwater would give them a discount.

  26. spencers mom says:

If the world is a safer place because of BushCo, why does he need all that security?

What’s the problem with spending millions among friends. This area is racist and Bush is one of them. Now all the security in the World wont protect anyone. The people in this neighborhood better get use to trash/liars/thieves and War Criminals. Good news is when George W. goes to jail the neighbors will only have Laura and her Texas boyfriend to deal with.

Why the hell is the city of Dallas responsible for their protection?
    _____________________________________________________________

You’re absolutely right — a city shouldn’t have to pony up for security merely because an ex-president decides to live there. All security should be paid for by the president’s former employer (the federal government).

I’m also a bit concerned about the neighbors on Daria Drive — were they consulted about the changes in their neighborhood as a result of the Bushes moving in? Or were they just told, “effective January 20, 2009, you will be gated in, you will have to prove who you are to get past the gate, and all your visitors will be screened”?

I think there should be a “retired presidents home” somewhere — gated, secure, well-guarded, and away from everybody else. The federal government pays for it, and nobody else’s life is disrupted. Of course, you WOULD have the problem of H.W. Bush complaining about the Carter grandchildren playing on his lawn…

As a Dallasite, I suggest we bill Mr. Bush for this security. As an ex-president he has free Secret Service protection. The extra police are not needed and are a luxury. Everyone else pays for private security when they want such draconian measures as a gated community, so should Dubbya.

I will be at the next city council meeting to suggest this.

    The DA List
We mailed the last of the books February 7, 2009. All 2,200 prosecutors should have received their book and cover letter. It is now time to contact your local prosecutor to see if they are going to pursue the serious crimes documented by Mr. Bugliosi. We suggest that after an intial phone call, a followup letter is sent to their office.

To locate your local prosecutor choose your state below. You’ll find the prosecutor’s contact information, and you can also download the state’s list PDF. Or you can download the entire United States DA list PDF by clicking here.

The next step is to click on the “Petition” tab, download, print, and circulate. After collecting signatures, mail the petition to your local prosecutor.

Every DA who’s received a book will understand that their re-election depends on upholding the Rule of Law.
