Fox Panel’s Verdict On Jindal’s Speech: ‘Childish,’ ‘Amateurish,’ ‘Not Exactly Terrific’
Lousiana Gov. Bobby Jindal’s (R) response to President Obama’s speech tonight received a universal thumbs down from the Fox News panelists, who are traditionally conservatives’ most gentle critics:
BRIT HUME: “The speech read a lot better than it sounded. This was not Bobby Jindal’s greatest oratorical moment.”
NINA EASTON: “The delivery was not exactly terrific.”
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: “Jindal didn’t have a chance. He follows Obama, who in making speeches, is in a league of his own. He’s in a Reagan-esque league. … [Jindal] tried the best he could.”
JUAN WILLIAMS: “It came off as amateurish, and even the tempo in which he spoke was sing-songy. He was telling stories that seemed very simplistic and almost childish.”
ThinkProgress has compiled some lowlights of Jindal’s speech, along with the reactions of the Fox panel. Watch it:
On PBS, New York Times columnist David Brooks also remarked, “In a moment when only the federal government is actually big enough to do stuff, to just ignore all that and just say ‘government is the problem, corruption, earmarks, wasteful spending,’ it’s just a form of nihilism. It’s just not where the country is, it’s not where the future of the country is.”
Even conservative bloggers are upset with Jindal. Kathryn Jean Lopez writes at the Corner, “E-mails I’m getting are from disappointed conservatives. They wanted a full-throated response to Obama and expected and/or wanted more.” Ramesh Ponnuru called Jindal’s delivery “weak.”

Jindal is not impressive. He is a typical Republican, and it was laughable to hear him speak about the environment when he has one of the lowest possible ratings from the League of Conservation Voters. He’s an anti-gay, anti-abortion conservative who has few new ideas. It was sickening to hear him accuse Obama of refusing to fund the troops when he simply voted against a bill that had other measures that he didn’t agree with. Just like McCain did.

“About 63 percent of Americans currently approve of Obama’s job performance, down from his initial 68 percent rating in January, (Gallup) reported. It said the president’s disapproval rating jumped from 12 percent to 24 percent over the same period, “mainly because rank-and-file Republicans — who already lagged well behind Democrats in their approval of Obama in January — have quickly become even more critical.” Thirteen percent of those surveyed had no opinion.
In other words, Republicans remembered that they’re supposed to throw tantrums and shout “NO!” like bratty two-year-olds, and this is the source of any erosion in Obama’s approval ratings.
No surprise, of course, that Troll JK has nothing to say about Bobby Jindal’s embarrassing performance, trying to follow the President.

It was a Comedy Show as Jindal gave a speech as if he were campaigning for President. Not one word about President Obama’s Speech as it was suppose to be a rebuttal. Jindal praised how well Louisiana is doing under his leadership but forgot about the 6 per cent unemployment rate. Many are continuing to help the citizens of Louisiana after Katrina but Jindal acts like his State isn’t effected by the Recession. Looks like Eric Cantor has a clear path to be the GOP candidate for President as Jindal looked and sound like a complete idiot. Jindal might not even get re elected after refusing the Stimulus Package. The good news is the Louisiana Lt. Govenor will make sure the citizens get the Stimulus Package by over riding the Govenor.

I’m not showing you these to blow my own horn but because I actually am starting to wonder if its possible my suggestions may have somehow made their way to him. That’s an ominous thought for me.

“Create a Federal fund with it and allow lenders to draw against it to write loans.”

“If lending doesn’t return soon, those people will lose their jobs eventually, and then lending will become moot”
“Call, write or email your congressmen and tell them that they need to inject capital back into the banks for the SOLE PURPOSE OF LENDING. If they do that, the housing markets will return, and bringing millions and millions of jobs and lots of production with it.”
“If President Obama and congress created a vehicle to inject lending capital, and ONLY lending capital into the more stable banks, help collapse the unstable ones while redistributing their assets much like the RTC did, then we’d see a resurgence of jobs and economic growth almost overnight.”
“Lending is still the key but I believe this bill will stop the hemmoraging at least, and keep us from going under. It won’t take much to get lending going, just some federal imsurance or a lending fund like I suggested.”
“Restart lending and we prop up the economy again, meaning people go back to work, and the hemorrhaging stops long enough to do the sort of rebuilding and such people are talking about.”
“All we have to do is resurrect the RTC, or create a similar entity to restructure debt, inject lending capital and manage liquidation and restructuring of failing financial institutions.”
These are just a few of my comments on the subject over the past few days and weeks.
And here’s what President Obama said tonight.

That is why this administration is moving swiftly and aggressively to break this destructive cycle, restore confidence, and re-start lending.
We will do so in several ways. First, we are creating a new lending fund that represents the largest effort ever to help provide auto loans, college loans, and small business loans to the consumers and entrepreneurs who keep this economy running.“

Although Jindal’s delivery and content were weak, the underlying message is there. Republicans strayed from their fiscal conservative roots and will attempt to champion the idea of smaller government in the future.
After last night’s speech, that may take a while.
