UK blocks publication of Iraq war discussions.

The British government said today that it will not “publish records of cabinet discussions on the legality of invading Iraq in 2003, despite a tribunal ruling in January that it should release them.” Justice Secretary Jack Straw blocked the request made under the Freedom of Information Act, saying that release of the records would “risk serious damage to Cabinet government.” Previously released government documents revealed that former Attorney General Peter Goldsmith had “cast doubt on the legal grounds for war” just days before then-Prime Minister Tony Blair ordered British troops to invade Iraq.

  2. Ape-Man says:

The ‘damage’ has already been done. People are just trying to assess the damage and attempt repair. British government, you are impeding justice. Stop it!

Well, at least we know where Dick Cheney has been recently…I wonder how the quail hunting is in Britain???

saying that release of the records would “risk serious damage to Cabinet government.”

Gives you a warm feeling inside when your governmnet thinks that revealing the truth might damage it.

  9. RUCerious says:

If Jack Straw keeps it up, he’ll be promoted to the Ministry of Silly Walks.

  11. Bushie says:

Maybe the US and Britain should pass a CYA law. The law would say that the information requested by a FOIA would potentially embarrass an Administration or show illegal acts committed and therefore would not be released. I’m sure our Congress would sign up to that. I’m not so sure Parliament would, but it’s worth a try.

  18. NOLIESPLEASE says:

    Simple facts;

The United States and England would be charged in the criminal courts.

This is just mind blowing. I think it’s time for the citizens of this world to overthrow every government in power.

We are destroying ourselves with these lies.

Alrighty Mr. P, it’s time to get back to gracing your djockstrap site. You’ve had your popsicle on us.

  21. Buckie Boy says:

Mr. Phuckby, you would know a real American. A real one would beat the crap out of you. But then you would have to come out from under your bed first.

All government officials involved in the Iraqi decision making are criminals.

  22. McWars says:

Also, Mr. P, while your posting intended to throw the entire thread into a whirl wind, I’ll take issue with it as a serious comment anyway.

First, what “good news” could possibly come out of citizens being unable to access the records of their own government?

Second, wouldn’t a “real American” protect, defend, and preserve the constitution? Why, then, would this be good news to that particular segment? Or do you have a different definition of a “real American.”

  23. tombaker says:

By “real Americans” Pillsbury means “The Quisling Quarter”, so his statement is sufficiently consistent.

That’s an admission of guilt. He’s stating that the records contain incriminating evidence.

Idiot, the ones who covered up and lied about it, not the fools who didn’t know that republicans lie about everything.

Does your laptop fit under your bed?

  29. The Dogfather says:

Mr. Phluffy says: Like hillary and kerry to name 2?

You’re mistaking “voting for a pre-ordained resolution” with “decision-making”, Mr. P. Secretary Clinton and Senator Kerry were not involved in the decision-making on going to war in Iraq; that was all done by the RNC prior to the November 2000 election, and the resolution that they voted on was simply an affirmation of the pre-ordained decision by President Cheney and his sock puppet Herr Bush.

Oh, and by the way, both Secretary Clinton and Sen. Kerry have been upstanding enough to admit that they were duped by the Cheney/Bush/Rumsfeld cabal and that they were wrong in their vote — I don’t recall any of your Heroes of Wingnuttia admitting the wrongness of their decision-making, despite the collossal failure that resulted…

WOW! Think about that! Two Senators, both of whom have been in DC for decades were fooled by the evil Republican Party , but a cheetos eating, pimple faced geek posting on TP from mothers basement wasn’t. What does that say for Kerry and Clinton?

Hey dumbass, there is no such thing as the “democrat party”. Stop using a noun as an adjective. It makes you sound like a dumbass.

Nice, but I know eugenicsdebra, and you are no eugenicsdebra. You need at least a larger paragraph with more BOLD and more CAPS and certainly more FOUL LANGUAGE. You’re kind of a poor womans debra.

  36. shoeless says:

It’s nothing personal. I would call anyone a dumbass if they consistantly used a noun as an adjective.
