Log Cabin Republicans slam Steele’s comments on civil unions.

As ThinkProgress first reported, GOP Chairman Michael Steele was asked on a radio show Monday whether the party should “consider” civil unions. “No, no no. What would we do that for? What are you, crazy?” he replied. The Log Cabin Republicans condemned Steele’s comments in a press release put out yesterday:

steelegop.gif“The politics of the past were clearly rejected in the November election. We hope Chairman Steele will work to build a more inclusive Republican Party that can win elections,” said Log Cabin Republicans National Chairman Terry Hamilton. Hamilton continued, “Such comments marginalize gay and lesbian Americans, and further alienate the mainstream, moderate, and independent-minded voters that left the Republican Party in the November election.”

We need an inclusive GOP to reach out to new constituencies and to attract younger voters, women, Latinos, African Americans, and others who share our view of limited government and low taxes. The Log Cabin Republicans remain committed to working with other mainstream GOP groups and fair-minded Republicans to rebuild the Party.

Just last month, the Log Cabin Republicans had enthusiastically cheered Steele’s election to the chairmanship. “It’s a great day for our Party. Steele is an inclusive leader who will bring a new energy and a new vision to the GOP at a critical time,” president Patrick Sammon said. Steele has been invited to speak at LCR’s convention in April but has not yet said whether he’ll attend.

Good. Hopefully we can see the end of the repugs with stupidity like this. Ron Paul just “blew up” CNBC. They had cut to what they thought was going to be the testimony of Bernanke before a Congressional Committee, and Barney Frank threw it to Ron Paul for a two-minute opening statement, which CNBC aired live at about 10:13 a.m. EST. Paul ripped the existing system, revealed the globalist’s plan for the pending international (single fiat currency) system which is set to replace the dollar system, and proclaimed that it will not work.

CNBC came back to the studio, where Mark Haynes said:

“This is not going according to plan. They were supposed to limit opening statements, so we’re going to go to commercial and return when the testimony of Bernanke begins.”

Get your hands on this video from CNBC. It reveals that the entire mainstream media game is rigged – by the bankers.

“Why do I get the feeling that I’m getting forced to be gay lol.”
    – I don’t know why you have that feeling. It may be a personal problem. But nobody’s forcing you to be gay — just like no white people were forced to become black during the civil rights struggles of the 60’s.

“I’m for gay equality and civil unions…”
    – Good! Glad to hear it. But from your previous statement, I suspect you have some issues with it.

“…but is it me or did I see a blog post on this site defending someone pushing homosexuality on KIDS?”
    – You may be thinking of an item posted on TP last Friday: http://thinkprogress.org/2009/02/20/palin-cringed-gay-book/ , which you obviously misinterpreted. The book, “Daddy’s Roommate”, wasn’t “pushing” homosexuality any more than “Little House on the Prairie” pushed heterosexuality. The book didn’t talk about sex of any kind.

    “That was a bit much.”
    – If you are talking about force-feeding young children graphically detailed descriptions of homosexual sex (or sex of ANY kind), I’d agree with you. But that isn’t the case here.

  28. spencers mom says:

Homosexuality is so easy to explain to a child. I did it years ago, way before the whole birds/bees thing by simply telling my son that some people fall in love with members of the opposite sex, and some fall in love with members of their same sex. I also explained that gay people are in the minority, and like all other minorities, they deserve the same rights and freedoms afforded to all human beings.

    But that’s just me…

I don’t think so. I see no reason why someone who’s conservative on fiscal and foreign policy should be excluded from the Republican party because of their sexual preference. Neither do the Log Cabiners, whose name appears to be a reference to the more traditional party of Lincoln rather than the current party of Limbaugh. 52. Chris L says:

Th republican party must not understand how elections work in a two party system. For every voting block they alienate, that is one more block they are giving to the dems. One would think that by looking at the last election they would want to try to regain much of what they lost. The LCR’s are one of those groups. Obama did not win because of the youth vote or the gay vote or the black vote. He won because a large number of people who had previously voted for Bush had become disillusioned by their own party and they wanted a change. The only way the republican party can ever win again is to regain those votes. You don’t do that by further alienating friendly groups and pandering to the extreme base of the party.

For a lot of people (called “straight” or “heterosexual”) there’s no ad campaign in the world that would make them become gay. But you’re all for heterosexuality being taught to children, right? Like the tales of Sleeping Beauty where it takes a kiss to rouse Sleeping Beauty from a nap? How about Jack & Jill?

When one reads the book “Daddy’s Roommate”, there are no details about what they’re doing behind closed doors. Somehow, you regard that as “teaching homosexuality”? This is no less than any other childrens book in which a boy & girl end up “happily ever after”.

    Why the double-standard?

  87. Yankeluh says:

“Log Cabin” Republicans still exist after the last eight years… Where did they hide; and why the hell are they still Republicans?

  88. Geezer says:

Antichrist probably had to go help daryll shake out a few more demons.
