Limbaugh Defends Jindal, Warns Conservatives They Are ‘Making A Real Mistake If They Go After’ Him

The response across the political spectrum to Gov. Bobby Jindal’s (R-LA) speech last night has been overwhelmingly negative. Even the most enthusiastic conservative talkers had harsh words for Jindal’s speech, calling it “cheesy,” “insane,” and “not his greatest oratorical moment.”

But Jindal still maintains one key supporter — Rush Limbaugh. On his radio show this afternoon, Limbaugh leaped to Jindal’s defense. “I love Bobby Jindal, and that did not change after last night,” he said. Limbaugh then directed this admonition at his fellow conservatives:

LIMBAUGH: [T]he people on our side are really making a mistake if they go after Bobby Jindal on the basis of style. Because if you think — people on our side I’m talking to you — those of you who think Jindal was horrible, you think — in fact, I don’t ever want to hear from you ever again. … I’ve spoken to him numerous times, he’s brilliant. He’s the real deal.

Watch it:

It should come as no surprise that Limbaugh would try desperately to shield Jindal from any criticism. Limbaugh repeatedly refers to the Louisiana governor as the “next Ronald Reagan.” During his Feb. 28, 2008 radio show, Limbaugh explained that Jindal is among the small group of conservative leaders with the “guts to articulate” right-wing “Rushism” principles.

The affection between the two is growing stronger over time. Limbaugh recently praised Jindal for rejecting unemployment benefits in the stimulus package. In an interview with Limbaugh in 2007, Jindal gushed that he reads Limbaugh’s books and that he is a “huge fan” of Limbaugh’s program. In addition, Jindal proudly displays Limbaugh’s kind words for him on his campaign website, where there are links to Limbaugh transcripts and articles.

Update Paul Begala urges Jindal to “dump Rush.” Begala writes, “But if it is Pres. Bush who haunts Gov. Jindal’s past, it is Rush Limbaugh who haunts his future.”
Update Last night on Twitter, conservative commentator Amanda Carpenter wrote: "Hackwatch: Conservatives/GOP-ers who try to spin Jindal's performance as anything better than it was..are hacks. Ugh, I have to go to bed."

Limpballs obviously thinks Jindal is “brilliant” and “the real deal” because Jindal spent so much time spewing Limpballs’s talking points during his so-called speech last night.

Keep going, rethuglicans — yer doin’ a heckuva job!!

If I read this correctly, Limbaugh doesn’t want to hear from anyone who thinks.

LEE: I fully believe that when then matter is looked into, we tried to get some boats in the water early on … Those boats where not allowed to get into the water when they were needed and I just found out about seven days later one of the reason boats couldn’t get in was they didn’t have enough life preservers and some of them didn’t have proof of insurance.

Perhaps Mr. Jindal can explain how he learned that lesson during Katrina, when Harry Lee didn’t learn about it until a week later?

  6. Daddy-O says:

Sorry, off-topic, but this is too good…

George W. Bush can only muster up $150K from those interested in having him give a speech to their organizations?

Red-Ink Ronnie and Poppy Bush commanded figures of $1 and $2 MILLION for a single speech–in late ’80s and mid-90s dollars, yet. I think Bill Clinton gets about $500K for giving a speech.

    Only one thing to conclude…

That’s the beauty of the free market!

    ha ha

Sorry for the interruption. Please feel free to resume any Rush-bashing at any time…

    I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Bobby, upon hearing Rush stick up for him, replied by saying “And Republicans are making a big mistake if they go after Limbaugh just because he’s a big, fat, loud, drug-addicted, Dominican boy-loving, kitten-eating shitheaded liar who incites fear, hatred and bigotry whenever he speaks.”

  21. Marie says:

OT (I tried the TP tip line, but it doesn’t work.)
    More on hypocritical repugs:

A 10% increase in the budget for Congressional operations was needed because Senate Republicans wanted to retain previous staff levels despite having lost roughly 20% of their ranks in the 2008 elections, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said Wednesday.

Congressional Republicans have been pouncing on any instance of wasteful spending they can find, but the congressional-operations.line item will likely remain safe from their ire.

The one-tenth hike brings the budget for Congress itself to $4.4 billion.

    Don’t blame us, said Reid.
“We had a situation — you should direct that question to Senator McConnell,” he said, referring to the Senate Minority Leader, “because we had trouble organizing this year. He wanted to maintain a lot of their staffing even though they had lost huge numbers. And the only way we could get it done is to do what we did. So you should direct that question to Senator McConnell.”

A McConnell spokesman didn’t immediately return a phone call.

  22. Marie says:

BTW maybe the reason why people who don’t believe in god like Obama because Obama will acknowledge and respect their opinions. Unlike Limbaugh!

On that point, Paul Krugman concluded, “The intellectual incoherence is stunning. Basically, the political philosophy of the GOP right now seems to consist of snickering at stuff that they think sounds funny. The party of ideas has become the party of Beavis and Butthead.”

Jindal is shameless. To the best of my knowledge he is Catholic. The last Pope said that evolution was established scientific fact. Yet, to pander to the Evangelicals he put ID into the schools to offer “a different point of view.”

Among the 30 largest industrialized nations our 15 year olds score in the bottom 25% in math and science. So while Obama is calling post-secondary education a patriotic duty, Jindal is advocating for superstition over science.

Dumbing down our children is inexcusable. Home schooling should be illegal. It’s just nitwits crafting more nitwits.

Trying to defend the indefensible is something Republicans have become very familiar with. Voodoo exorcist Bobby Jindahl looked like an inept, out of touch wannabe last night and made a fool of himself and his political backers. And how does Limbaugh respond? He threatens his listeners not to call him with criticisms of the man because he still loves him? If Obama had come across as poorly as Jindahl did last night, Limbaugh would have been all over Obama and encouraging his listeners to voice their criticisms, despite the fact that Obama truly is the “real deal” in practice rather than in a fantasyland. In essence, Limbaugh can’t handle the criticisms of those who disagree with him, even when it is in the best interests of the Republican Party to do so. Hanging their hopes on the electability of Bobby Jindahl is like betting that George W. Bush will be hired as a spokesman for the ACLU. Perhaps Limbaugh’s brain should try and have a conversation with his ego and tell it to stop promoting an awkwardly miscast pretender like Bobby Jindahl. As a liberal Democrat, I have no allusions that Limbaugh has a brain let alone one with enough firing synapses to produce a rational thought. But his promotion of voodoo Bobby Jindahl to the point that he would threaten his listeners to prevent them from criticizing his unanimously panned performance last night is wholly and utterly insane.

I think that what caught Matthews was Jindal’s goofy crooked smile as he emerged from the shadows. Sort of like what you see when someone has brain damage on one side – or maybe the devil took over that side during one of his excorcisms? Anyhow it was laughingly creepy from the start.

Then 10 seconds into his speech I was questioning if he was auditioning for Mr. Rogers’ replacement. The unnatural fluctuations in his voice as he read sounded like someone reading to group of 1st graders – REALLY. I was shaking my head in disbelieve the whole time.

If this is the future of the Republican Party – they’re in worse trouble than I thought.

O/T, but Had to post this. Today, after his memorable remarks on the Las Vegas/Disney train, Governor Jindal and family decided to go on vacation; And they All Went To Disney! Reality, what a Concept!

  102. pflaur says:

I listened to gasbag boy for awhile today. He seemed very frustrated but almost resigned to the approval ratings the Presidents speech got last night. He sounded like he was sedated, perhaps the oxy’s? I don’t care how much he and hannity spew, I think they see the writing on the wall for the right wing nuts.

  103. pflaur says:

OT…Best thing about last night was watching the fox talking parrots, they even panned jindal and their collective stammering was priceless.

  104. NOLIESPLEASE says:

“Rush Limbaugh may have a ton of money, but he has nobody’s respect – at least nobody with any credibility. The GOP is being marginalized down to a few nutcases. They are disappearing before our eyes….”

And what is wrong with that????? I very happy aren’t YOU????

  105. Geezer says:

Yeeeaah even JK could not get it up for some serious a$$holery on this post. I guess Jindal’s lame speech left JK speechless. When Rush said that he would not speak to those who spoke out about Jindal, he was doing moderate republicans a favor. At least a few of the smarter less ideology driven republicans can pass the stink test.

  106. gmknobl says:

I remember an episode of WKRP in Cincinnati that had a Rush-like character who bloviated on radio and tv and everyone hated him (I think except for Les, perhaps). It turned out he wasn’t that bad a guy in real life.

Except we know that represented wishful thinking from fair-minded people hoping such a horrible waste of air was really just an act.

No, in reality, I expect this real life waste of air-time will soon go the way of Walter Winchell.

  107. osage says:

The point of Republicans rebutting Obama’s speech is to convince voters that Republicans offer a better alternative. Based on the polling numbers after last night’s speeches, the Republican rebuttal was a dismally ineffective failure. The reality is, Bobby Jindahl and the Republican Party failed to promote their agenda and in fact convinced voters that Republicans did not offer a better alternative. It makes no difference that Rush Limbaugh loves Bobby Jindahl. Bobby Jindahl’s performance last night damaged rather than advanced Republican popularity/electability. And Rush Limbaugh is only perpetuating that failure by threatening those listeners who recognize that Republicans have to offer better alternatives than the woefully over matched and inadequate voodoo exorcist Bobby Jindahl. Perhaps some of Limbaugh’s listeners actually are smarter and more loyal to their party than Mr. Limbaugh is, but as a Democrat, I’m hoping they’re not.

  114. Hoodathunk says:

I sort of like the idea of Rush telling people not to talk to him. It would be too much to ask that they would actually do it. Trolls would be down to being empty Pez dispensers with an occasional spit bubble.

  115. backup says:

Jindal’s speech was horrible. But, there’s more to leadership than giving a speech. And one poor performance won’t make or break someone.

But, you have to call it what it was. A poor performance.

To be fair, it was a very tough act to follow.

  116. backup says:

Here’s something else to ponder. If Rush is a racist, maybe he’s losing his vision, too. Someone should tell Rush: Jindal’s brown.

  117. shoeless says:

  120. Deuce Coupe says:

After listening to the Obama speech again and the Governor Bobby Jindal response and discussions with Governor Bobby Jindal today, Governor Jindal made a lot more economic sense then the long winded rhetoric coming out of Washington last night.

  121. dmbraddy says:

I don’t see why it’s news every time Limbaugh opens his mouth. The crap that spews out is so predictable you could write a program to replace him. Please, no more Rush stories. Every story, every blog, every mention just helps his cause.

  122. hardleft says:

I think every time a Republican opens his mouth another percent or two of the population becomes either Democratic or Independent. They are so sad. By this time next year there might not even be a Republican party anymore.

I’d almost bet that they move to suspend the 2010 general election until they can figure out a way to get somebody to vote for them.

I’m predicting probably another 4-6 Democratic Senators after 2010.

  126. CaLawyer says:

What more proof do you need that the the Limbaugh wing of the GOP has no interest in honest debate and discussion. Jindal tanks, but Rush forbids fellow Republicans from saying so.

In all seriousness, this is a real problem for the GOP. Republican leaders need to meet with Rush privately and tell him in no uncertain terms to shut the f— up. He doesn’t speak for the Republican party, and stop pretending that he is the party’s spokesperson. He is doing incalculable damage to the party right now. Which is fine with me, since I’m a Democrat. I had always hoped for the day when the GOP would see Rush as more of a liability than an asset, and that day appears to be coming very soon.

  127. shoeless says:

    Deuce Coupe Says:

You don’t understand. With pathetic leaders like Boehner and McConnell, Rush Limbaugh has become the leader and the spokesman of the Republican Party by default. They tried to pump up Bobby Jindal as spokesperson and you saw what a disaster that was. No, Rush Limbaugh is the unchallenged voice of the Republican Party.

  138. bigmacha says:

    July 7, 2006 – 13:55 ET

On Thursday, “The Smoking Gun” website published the Homeland Security manifest, including the June 29 affidavit signed by Rush Limbaugh, concerning the conservative radio host’s customs detention in Palm Beach, Florida, last month (hat tip to Radio Equalizer).

With the headline, “Rush Limbaugh’s Dominican Stag Party,” and a sub-headline, “29 Viagra pills, two ‘24’ producers among radio star’s all-male crew,” it seems that this is likely to incite more lurid media speculation concerning why Limbaugh had Viagra on an “all boys” trip to the Dominican Republic:
Rush Limbaugh was traveling with four other men–including the producers of the hit show “24″–when he was detained over a mislabeled bottle of Viagra found in his luggage during a Customs search. A Department of Homeland security passenger manifest shows that Limbaugh and his four buddies flew from the Dominican Republic on a Gulfstream IV jet owned by Premiere Radio Networks, which syndicates his radio program. Limbaugh returned to Palm Beach, Florida on June 26 with Joel Surnow, “24″’s co-creator and executive producer and Howard Gordon, another of the Fox hit’s executive producers (Hollywood agent Jeffrey Benson was also part of the Limbaugh quintet).
The lurid implication: “With all those guys in tow, it is unclear what Limbaugh needed with those 29 100mg Viagra pills.”
Only time will tell how the media will respond to these documents. Anybody want to guess?

  139. labman57 says:

So according to Rush, if you don’t think as he thinks, and if you don’t say what he says, then you cease to have a valid reason for publicly expressing your opinions and ideas.
I think the guy has read “Mein Kampf” too many times.

Flat-out crackpot lie fabricated to push a Republican lunacy-point.

  151. gillianb says:

    Hey Rush:

Did you know that Piyush Jindal is not a native born US citizen and cannot be president. Oh, his mother was delivered of him in a US hospital in Baton Rouge, but that doesn’t matter.

If Rush’s devotees are correct and life begins at conception, then Piyush Jindal, who was conceived in the Punjab is not a real American citizen and cannot ever be president or vice-president.

Too bad for Bobby! Too bad for Rush.

  152. leftandliberal says:

There’s a nice little behind-the-scenes story to Limpballs rantings here that shouldn’t be overlooked. He’s pushing hard for Jindal to be the next presidential candidate, yes. But that also means that Palin is out of the picture.

News flash to the right wingnuts: Obama’s plans will work. It will be refreshing to have a president not talk down to us and who will let us know exactly how bad things are and not hide them. Because of his honesty, he will be respected. Because of this respect, our country’s stature will grow in the world. Is it going to be difficult to overcome the total, absolute disaster the f–g repubs and Bush left us? You’d better believe it. But it will happen, despite you repubs trying to stand in the way. So nominate any token minority you want, but the presidency is Obama’s for 8 years.

  153. Janak63 says:

Wow, Jindal, Rush and Palin are the future of the GOP???? The three muskateers almost make Bush look intelligent.

  155. misslydia says:

Ahh… Rush Limbaugh…another Republican genius deeming himself the arbiter of intellectual superiority. He says of Lil Bobby: “I’ve spoken to him numerous times, he’s brilliant.” From Limbaugh’s Wikipedia entry: “He dropped out after two semesters and one summer; according to his mother, “he flunked everything”, even a modern ballroom dancing class.” Limbaugh…the gift that keeps on giving…

  156. curmudgeon says:

Huff Post refused to print the following…

Hey, Piyush (call me “Bobby”, or “Billy Bob”, or “John Boy”, whatever) Jindal, why don’t we also discontinue several other kinds of monitoring, such as hurricane monitoring. That should play well in your home state, shouldn’t it?

Some of the other governors considering turning down at least part of the stimulus package — James Richard (just call me “Rick”) Perry-TX (aka Goodhair), Haley Reeves Barbour-MS, Marshall Clement (call me “Mark”) Sandford, Jr.-SC, Clement Leroy (just call me C. L. or “Butch”) Otter-ID, and Sarah Louise Palin-AK. Four of six refuse to use their first names and four of six are from hurricane-prone states.

While we’re at it, why not discontinue drought monitoring? Seems that the faith of those in the Bible Belt is being tested.

With regard to the nation’s food supply, the drought map for California looks worrisome. If the dust bowl occurs again, doesn’t look like California will be an option for the Okies this time. For a look at the current U. S. drought map, go to and look for the above-referenced states: http://www.drought.unl.edu/dm/monitor.html

And we certainly don’t need flood monitoring, do we?

The six states above represent areas where the Republican religion will surely survive floods, vermin, famine, locusts, wildfires, loose morals and the plague.

So, here’s how we can save millions in taxes for various forms of monitoring — elect a Republican governor who can pray for the “deserving” in his/her state.

  157. curmudgeon says:

Huff Post also refused to print the following…

How’s this for a theme song for Piyush Jindal’s presidential run in 2012?

“Volcano” by Jimmy Buffett — which would likely convey the intended upbeat, “What, me worry?” vibe.

Speaking of “What, Me Worry” — take a photo of Jindal, darken his hair, put a slight space between his middle two upper incisors, and voila — you’ve got Alfred E. Neuman with tan.

To hear it for yourself, go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxuaUaS4rU0

  158. Keith H. says:

those of you who think Jindal was horrible, you think — in fact, I don’t ever want to hear from you ever again.

That should really put a stop to all the bad-mouthing rush.
I know it’s changed my mind, cause I just wanna be your friend.

  159. Bude says:

In his speech at the CPAC Conference in Washington D.C, Mr. Limbaugh exhibited several telltale signs of chronic drug use including, a marble mouth delivery, a severely bloated appearance, and profuse sweating.

I hope he gets the help he needs. In the meantime we shouldn’t take him seriously.

  160. jordald says:

I hope Rush and Bobby remain so close! What better endorsement for another Big, FAT LIAR on the right?
