John Bolton jokes about nuking Chicago, entire CPAC audience erupts in laughter.
This morning, former U.N. ambassador John Bolton spoke to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). He tried to up the fear quotient in the room by raising the prospect of an Iranian-sent nuclear attack on an American city. “It’s [a] tiny [threat] compared to the Soviet Union,” Bolton said, “but is the loss of one American city — pick one at random: Chicago — is that a tiny threat?” The audience erupted in cheers and laughter at the idea of Obama’s home city being obliterated. Watch it:
Later during the conference, Joe Scarborough warned the audience that conservatives would have to work on their “tone.” “We’re not going to win votes, we’re not going to win elections by calling Obama a communist,” Scarborough said.
Update The Wonk Room's Matt Duss, who attended CPAC today, notes that Bolton also fearmongered on Obama's dedication to Israel. He told an audience member that he "very much fear[s] it's right" that Obama would not aid Israel were it attacked.

The statement Santelli said was “very scary” to hear was from White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, who was pointing out that while a former derivatives trader might have a fine home and a well-paying job, “the American people are struggling every day to meet their mortgages, stay in their jobs, pay their bills, send their kids to school.”

After reading some of these posts. I think we need to see a list of the attendees at CPAC. It’s not necessarily enough to know who’s speaking. And, it might be appropriate for the FBI to look into some of these people. There’s something fundamentally wrong with advocating violence against fellow americans. Not only that, but advocating violence against our President is certainly unlawful. That cartoon in the post wasn’t funy in the least. I saw it for what it was as did many.
The right wing lunatics need to be called to account before we have more shootings like the one in Tennessee. The sooner the better.

Anyone arguing that a nation that struggles to develop a single nuke explosive device (or a small arsenal of them) is then gonna go right off and send it against another nation (in particular ours) is simply blowing obvious smoke. First of all, were Iran to simply brandish a known nuclear device in offensive threat mode, even as a bluff gesture, it would guarantee their swift incineration by Israel.
