Think Progress

Exclusive: Joe the Plumber suggests some members of Congress should be shot.

On Wednesday, Joe “the Plumber” Wurzelbacher said that if he were in Congress, he would “probably be in jail” because he’d be charged with “slapping some member.” He added, “And that’s not [bull] either.” ThinkProgress asked Joe at CPAC yesterday which members he would most like to slap. “Pretty much anybody that’s stood there and said anything bad about our troops, pretty much anybody who sat there and talked treasonous talk about America,” Joe said. He then implied that some members of Congress should be shot:

Back in the day, really, when people would talk about our military in a poor way, somebody would shoot ‘em. And there’d be nothing said about that, because they knew it was wrong. You don’t talk about our troops. You support our troops. Especially when our congressmen and senators sit there and say bad things in an ongoing conflict.

Watch it:

Of course, politicians aren’t the only ones Joe thinks should be banned from speaking about war. Last month, he said that journalists shouldn’t “be anywhere allowed war.” “I think media should be abolished from, uh, you know, reporting,” he said.

Update ThinkProgress also asked Joe about his recent trip to Israel. Wurzelbacher repeated his claim that Obama’s victory means “death to Israel.” He also seemed to say that there is no such thing as a Palestinian. Watch the video here.

I take it Joe was the paid entertainment for this conference? He’d be funny as h*ll, if he wasn’t serious, which I suspect he is.

We’ve established that he’s not a fan of the First Amendment, but I’d really like to know what he considers to be “treasonous talk about America”. My guess is that means anything that criticizes rightwingnuttery.

I guess Joe hasn’t heard about the First Amendment.

But, if he’s gonna be upset with folks who didn’t support our troops, he should start in Dallas with the former Decider who sent 4,000 of them to their deaths because he attacked a sovereign nation for no good reason…

He also seemed to say that there is no such thing as a Palestinian.

This is a familiar, is little-used right-wing meme that’s meant, I suspect, to diminish the moral authority of the Palestinian people. It must have been invented by Rush or someone very similar, because a while back a Ditto-head friend of mine made a claim that went “there were no Palestinians before 1986″ or something along those lines.

All I had to do was ask him, “who was it that murdered Israeli athletes in Munich in 1972, then?” I didn’t need to go back any further than that to prove he was full of shit. I never heard him make that claim again.

There was a poll over at Klannity’s website (I believe) about how wingnutters should “take back their country” (Again, as I recall…) and the choices ranged from armed insurrection to secession. They also had a show on Fox, hosted by Beck, about “the coming civil war”… the nutters just loves themselves all that smack-smacky/grab a gun talk…

Joe doesn’t do “proof”. That’s a left-wing liberal concept for weenie factinistas.

  26. CageyCretin says:

After giving his emotionally engaging speech at CPAC, “Joe” was given an urgent mission: some toe-tappers in the men’s room clogged up a toilet and emergency action was required. being a good republican, “Joe” negotiated for payment up front, even as the water began to run under the men’s room door. Finally, after they arrived at an agreement, “Joe” rushed in to do the job at hand, dissappearing into the men’s room for several hours, emerging in a disheveled state, but quite pleased with himself.

The men’s room was closed for the rest of the day.

Being against this endless money pit in Iraq does not mean that you do not support the military. I want to support the troops and bring them home from Iraq. Why the Republicans have elevated this man into a spokesman is beyond me.

And as long as the GOP uses somebody like Joe as their standard-bearer, this will be the ONLY kind of person supporting the Republican Party.

Which is good for the Democrats, of course — but I think the country as a whole is better served by a viable two-party system. Not to obstruct each other (preventing all progress), but to keep each other in check so that no single party runs amok.

  41. CageyCretin says:

Can someone PLEASE clarify — at what point are death threats to sitting politicians, made in public forums, actually considered to be dangerous, requiring investigation and incarceration? Because it appears that, today, you can say pretty much whatever you want and it is okey-dokey (and if questioned, you may qualify it with, “I was joking” or other quaint and dishonest sentiments).

At what point is calling for armed rebellion of the government considered sedition?

At what point are either of these activities, done in public, to be considered “inciting” people to treasonous activities?

The concept of “freedom of speech” does NOT include calling for armed rebellion to overthrow the government. However, in the reichwing mind I guess that is exactly what they believe it means…. can we educate these people with some jail time BEFORE they incite riots or rebellion? Just wondering.

Less than a year ago these people were whining that you had to be patriotic and support the president and majority party. NOW they are crying that they want an armed rebellion.

    “Patriots”, indeed.

Yet they have a vast storehouse of knowledge on the military, what is good for it and the troops, and what constitutes supporting the troops. How about asking “the troops” what constitutes “supporting” them? The rightwing would lose all arguments in an honest poll (the troops want to come home — #1, plain and simple. Those who don’t agree should sign their fat lazy cowardly @sses up and go fight in these conflicts that they rally for).

Come to think of it, hey, “Joe”, you look like you’re still young enough to serve. Why not get a uniform and a weapon and head on over to Iraq or Afghanistan? That would go a long way to “support the troops”. Coward.

if you wouldn’t exist without gov’t dollars you shouldn’t be able to do things without gov’t approval.

anyone that says this is anti free market priniciples forgets that giving them the money in the first place is against free market principles.

    __________

Dumb Crap is prolly desperately trying to refer to the new $410BB supplemental spending bill passed this week (in at least one chamber of Congress). Don’t know if it’s gone to Obama yet. It’s meant to give the govt enough money to keep running thru this end of this fiscal yr, or sumpin like that.

It’s not “the new budget” as DC calls it. And yes, it does have many, many earmarks in it. This is prolly what JK was referring to last night too. Again, how many of those earmarks were put in there by the same GOOPers making a phony show of knocking the stimulus while they try to sneak their states’ money thru these earmarks?

  88. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

I, for one, do NOT want Joe the Plumber to disappear. He demonstrates the neocon attitude and values in its purest, rawest, unfiltered form. Other spokesmen for the neocons can hide the flaws and darkness of their values better because they are trained and experienced in presenting the suave front. Joe, at least until he is trained, is like a blind cockroach who does not realize that he is in the light and exposed. This makes him available as our tool.

  89. A Patriot Acting says:

Just a thought. During the Bush Administration the Patriot Act and the Protect America Act were abused countless times in order to spy on peaceful organizations, political opponents, members of the media and private citizens that happened to disagree with Bush’s agenda. I feel it would be absolutely justified while the laws are still on the books for the Gov’t to take a long hard look at groups like CPAC, PNAC, NYPost, FOX News (particularly Insannity), Michelle Malkin, Joe the (non)plumber, Rush. All of these to a one have publicly incited violence against our Government in just the last few weeks. They are all welcome to criticize Obama’s ideas but when you take it to a level where you promote things like the dead monkey cartoon, advocate shooting members of Congress, yuk it up at the possibility of Chicago being turned into charred rubble, stand proudly for photos with guys holding swastika flags, pray for Obama (and with it our Nation) to fail and conduct polls asking what the preferred violent method of overthrowing the American Government would be I’d say bug their phones, freeze their assets and declare them all enemy combatants to America. How much further can the right wing push until someone attempts to curry favor with them by commiting violent acts?

Taxpayers for Common Sense, a non-partisan budget watchdog group, has identified 8,570 earmarks for special projects at a cost of $7.7 billion.”

It is an excellent question. As several posters here have mentioned, he is a godsend for the Dems because of the incredibly dumb things he continues to say, so my gut is that it is the leftie media that is pushing him. On the other hand, perhaps there are those in the rightie media who think he is so “authentic” that having him say things in favor of the right is good.

I found him a useful simalcrum during that one particular debate. He gave a more useful moniker to “everyman.” But since that debate, he has lost his fascade and now just seems like some boob that just says random stuff.

The question remains – whose boob is he?

Of course, Joe is talking about “in the day” when American’s, as British colonists couldn’t talk bad about the army (Red Coats as we used to call them “in the day”) without the King shooting us for treason.

Joe is a true “conservative”, not ready to buy into all that “post-revolutionary war, liberal, democracy/republic” type crap.

Little known fact, this type of reasoning is why Joe was never able to actually become a licensed plumber. When taking the test he started remembering how “in the day” plumbing was just an outhouse in the back yard and refused to finish the test because of its “post-revolutionary war, liberal, indoor plumbing” bias.

  151. Jim says:

Well Joe may be on a tear here but if you want to fix the depression we are in, we have to get Chris Cox in jail, he allowed double short selling ETF’s to become a legal instrement for trading. He reversed the uptick rule and he looked the other way when Naked Short sellers broke the law. I think he may be the single most dangerous individual ever allowed in Government. He edges out X-pres George B. by about a full inch.

Please FBI, CIA, KGB – PLEASE INVESTIGATE CHRIS COX, EX head of the SEC. PLEASEEEEEE!

  152. dbadass says:

Wow, that’s amazingly like the kind of stereotyped nonsense Joe the Plumber comes up with.

Do your thing, I’ll do mine. Mine has a more surreal yet reality based comic twist…

  153. neoconsrscum says:

    Hey Joe! Did you -serve_
    I didn’t think so-
    Sit down, STFU.
And stop making terroristic threats against members of the august body of Congress- I’m sure it’s a FELONY, sh*t for brains.

    flavorino Says:

Hey Joe, or should I use your REAL name Samuel?
How about getting that plumbing license?
Or have you given up on that? I thought you were going to buy the business.

No, Joe couldn’t buy that multi-million dollar business because Obama might have raised his tax by nearly $900 if he made $280,000 in personal income.

  156. shoeless says:

Because of the threat of possibly having to pay $900 more income tax, if he became wealthy, Joe decided to remain a poor unlicensed handy man.

  157. jonitoole says:

Did that say Joe is slapping his member?…again? Well whatever keeps him busy.

  158. shoeless says:

If a Republican ever gets elected president, Joe will decide to become wealthy. Until then, it just isn’t worth it.

  159. aigiarm says:

It seems like Joe the Plumber was born too late; he would have made a great Nazi!

  160. shoeless says:

It seems like the Nazis were born too early; they would have made great Republicans.

  161. Max-1 says:

    .

So it’s not assault when “Joe the Assaulter” does it?

OR, It’s not Treason when “Joe the Assaulter” raises the stakes to murdering Federally Elected Officials?

    .

  162. Max-1 says:

    .

So, Joe thinks burning the American Flag is an act of treason…
… But advocating the murder of Federally Elected Officials isn’t?

This man is nothing but “Joe the clueless”.

    .

  163. squidbilly says:

CPAC will have to change their name to SPAC (stupid republican political action committee) if they continue to use Joe the Plunger as a spokesman… what a complete moron.

  164. jurassicpork says:

Another Hal Turner clone heard from the peanut gallery.

It utterly amazes me that even diehard 27%ers would even listen to this bald-headed bozo much less applaud him. I mean, it’s not as if he’s worth reading, if his last book signing was any indication.

So why are we still keeping t his clown in the public eye while forgetting about Richard Clarke, Sibel Edmonds, Susan Lindauer, Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame? These are all people who devoted a good part of their lives to keeping us safe and getting the truth out there.

  165. PhilG says:

Congress, I just want them to leave.

  166. charlesRN says:

I think Joe is referring to the great model that conservatives here are trying to emulate, the old Soviet Union. You see in that country the communists could work with conservatives. It was the liberals they shot. Remember, just as a point, the Soviet government hated the theory of evolution.

  167. warren57 says:

Sheez! Why is this guy news? Wasn’t his fifteen minutes of fame over back in November of 2008? So are we now to have to periodically hear the occasional blubbering from this guy until the Republican roll him out again during the next election?

  168. BOBBIE says:

He talks about the military the way radical muslims talked about Allah after that Danish cartoon came out a few years back. Listen up, Joe, the military is not the offical religion of the Unitied States!

  169. planetnevermind says:

Me Joe Plumber. You talk bad about me troops. Me hit you with club!

  170. fatcat_guru says:

whats the difference between joe the plumber and saddam hussein? answer: not much.

I am not a fan of having a one party country, but if joe the plumber and sarah palin represent the best the republicans have to offer…..

Joe is a real redneck who doesnt seem to understand freedom of speech and what that means. Taking out people and shooting them because they say things you dont like is pretty much what Saddam Hussein did, and it is captured on that famous video.

Joe should bow the hell out of political commentary and go get himself a real plumbers license. I would suggest sticking to fixing pipes and toilets. That is much more useful to folks than this ignorant offensive vomit of his. maybe he can start a new KKK or something like that, he sounds like he would fit in well there.

  171. sectionop92 says:

Lets give a big thanks to John McCain for introducing us to Joe the Plumber.

If McCain wasn’t nuts for using an inane, out-of-nowhere strategy to grasp at voting straws, showing us this authoritarian underside of the Republican/Libertarian parties sure will make anyone think twice about putting the check next to either party box when registering to vote.

  172. pj1fwb says:

Here is an example of freedom of speech! Joe needs to shut the hell Up! He is an idiot, and I resent the fact that he is still on the “news?”Don’t we have important things to talk about? Gimme a break!!!

  173. Joe the Philosopher says:

Joe also said that he would shoot anyone who said anything bad about Motherhood or apple pie. Joe added that anyone who doesn’t eat at McDonald’s at least once a week is probably a traitor.

  174. sectionop92 says:

Joe should go to a Klan rally to accept his Man of the Year award.

    He’s earned it.

  175. Kgprophet says:

    Hey Joe,
I take it you have a (black) list of these UnAmerican members of Congress, and substantial evidence of their bad mouthing of our troops. Right

Name One person Joe, you phony bag of talking points, name ONE.

    I thought so

  176. alanearth says:

Hey Joe where you going with that gun in your hand. “I’m going to shoot my congressman, Joe the terroist, to bad Mcaine wasn’t elected he could have made him the war czar.

  177. jklittle says:

Who is this guy? Guns, Violence, are we supposed to be better than that? He may be from Ohio, but I don’t consider him a neighbor. He obviously is having someone feed him this crap, because I can’t honestly believe that those many violent acts came from one persons thought process. Or is it he just wants his 15 minutes of fame? Joe – The Politician – shut the F___ up. You do not represent me, My State of MY COUNTRY!!

  178. slim1921 says:

This is why I don’t support the “Fairness Doctrine.” I think it’s great that these wingnuts get to rant on AM radio 24/7 and Fox. The progressives have NPR and websites like HuffPo and ThinkProgress to support our views and expose the ridiculous comments and ideas of the right. I say let them keep talking. More and more decent people will keep jumping ship if we just continue to show the world what these extremists are saying. Maybe a new center right party will emerge.

I would love to know what percentage of the population actually tunes in to Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, etc. I know they have many listeners, but the majority of Americans are clueless about who these people are.

  179. dieselis says:

sometimes it takes three decades for failed policies to come to fruition.collapsing economy, criminals with teeth(6philly policeman gunned down),small government so the wieight is placed on the state government, tax cuts that really only benefit the rich, defense spending approx25%of gnp,and a republocan party that wants more of the same.claiming to be fiscal then you go and look at what they’ve spent.its quite the opposite.also the party of JESUS until you take a good look.now almost every state has a severe defecit, especially urban areas and the inialation of the middle class.i can only agree with bush the 41st,reaganomics is voo doo economics.now its going to be a long and expensive road to sanity.the party is over and its up to us as a nation to clean it up.its going to be expensive.it was a rather lavish party for most.

  180. darter22 says:

So Sam, the Domestic Terrorist, wants members of Congress shot? Please Sam, just show up at the Capitol security checkpoint with a weapon. I can’t wait for your latest incarnation as Sam, prisoner #5978042.

  181. demise of the dittohead says:

Thanks Joe – you’re just who the trogs need speaking for them

  182. Canny55 says:

Has he ever met Michele Bachmann? They would fit perfectly.

  183. Tim43 says:

    Joe, your right!!!

  184. dcrasta says:

“Back in the day, really, when people would talk about our military in a poor way, somebody would shoot ‘em”

Ya like back in the day when a black man would get the uppity idea that he could run for President they would just shoot em?

ya like back in the day when a jewish man wanted to ride in a car with black men they would shoot em?

What a moron, I dont care if he is bigger I ever ever EVER see him in real life he getting his teeth knocked out.

  185. newdeal says:

What a moron, I dont care if he is bigger I ever ever EVER see him in real life he getting his teeth knocked out.

Let me know when you get the balls to confront him, I will have a ringside seat, with the media right behind me!
