We cant make the same mistake AFTER we created the Muhajadeen and leave the country to fall back into the hands of the nutbag warlords. I am not saying you are exactly wrong but we need to do some things before we leave that will make life endurable for the people who live there. Maybe some irrigation projects so they can raise something other than poppies. Schools that arent nutbag Madrassas. Hospitals. Roads. Had we done that after the Soviets left we wouldnt be having these problems there now. How can we do that with the extremists overwhelming all the rural areas. This is a big problem and I dont even know what the answer is at this point. Had we finished off al Queda and not gone into Iraq we could already had this done and be gone. At THIS point its a tragedy and I am not sure WHAT we can do. If we abandon these people again we will regret it. A long protracted war heaping more misery on them most likely isnt the answer either. This is a tough one and I dont see a simple answer. Leaving or staying we are taking a risk.

Here’s the difference: She’s against it only as a knee-jerk reaction to Obama’s plan. No thought whatsoever is involved in her rejection of the plan.

For myself, I’ve known since 9-11 that any major power that has planned to subdue, control or conquer Afghanistan has FAILED MISERABLY in the end. The U.S. will be no different. There are very few facts to support anything less. Why has every nation hell-bent on subduing Afghanistan failed miserably in the end?

Because subduing the place simply AIN’T WORTH IT. There’s nothing there except poppies and their native cultures. It’s too far away to supply. It’s too large. It’s too mountainous. Its people are fiercely independent. Any power seeking to control Afghanistan is like any cocaine user: Proof positive that the power/person has too much hubris/money.

Just wait and see.

Two things first is Afghanistan is where the guys who attacked us on 9/11 ACTUALLY ARE. As opposed to Iraq where Bush had to make up LIES to justify the invasion and second. I could accept it as a reasoned argument but NOT from someone we both know would have cheerfully supported Bush invading Canada. Her hypocrisy is just too much of a stench to be tolerated.

And the reason they asked him for this was because the air strikes were causing a disproportionate number of civilian casualties in relation to the number of enemy actually being killed. And that in turn creates more terrorists and enemy combatants for them to deal with, hence the longer it takes to get out.

So they asked President Obama for more troops to strike the enemy with so they could reduce the number of air strikes and thus reduce the loss of innocent human life.

When you take away all the right wing hype and diversionary nonsense all you have left is a President doing what we all tasked him to do and what Coulter always claimed Bush was doing, even though he never did.
