Michelle Malkin: I hope Obama fails.

By Satyam Khanna on Feb 28th, 2009 at 5:45 pm

Michelle Malkin: I hope Obama fails.

As ThinkProgress has documented, a growing number of conservatives are rooting for the failure of Obama’s presidency. Today on C-SPAN Washington Journal, a caller asked right-wing blogger Michelle Malkin if she agrees with Rush Limbaugh’s statement that he hopes President Obama fails. Malkin explained why she does:

MALKIN: When the President proposes things like trillion dollar budgets that have earmarks that he claims do not exist, yes, I hope that fails. When he proposes the same kind of wealth re-distributionist policies that had appalled me under the Bush administration, yes, I hope they fail.

Malkin then became increasingly defensive, arguing, “It certainly doesn’t make me some kind of racist for wanting to disagree with the President.” Watch it:

So the Fat Man leads the charge and now the entire Wingnut Posse feels safe coming out from under their rocks and joining in for a rousing chorus of:

    “We All Hope Obama Fails…”

And they’re all such patriotic Americans too…

  2. Hoodathunk says:

When he proposes the same kind of wealth re-distributionist policies that had appalled me under the Bush administration

    Ahem…er…WTF?

  3. Bartolo says:

CNN has Josef Limbaugh on now. God, what a blow-hard; and he has gained back all that weight.

  4. Zooey says:

Michelle’s hate just bubbles out of her like acid. It’s beginning to show…

  5. Zooey says:

“It certainly doesn’t make me some kind of racist for wanting to disagree with the President.”

No, but it does highlight your self-loathing.

  6. Rich H says:

Crooks and Liars ran a picture this week of Malkin smiling while having her picture taken with a man proudly holding/displaying a swastika.

Why does the media allow these Nazis on the air?

  7. ralph the wonder llama says:

Anchor Baby malikn: When he (Obama) proposes the same kind of wealth re-distributionist policies that had appalled me under the Bush administration, yes, I hope they fail.

Actually, dear Obama’s “wealth re-distributionist policies” would be the direct opposite of Bush’s. See, Bush redistributed wealth upwards.

But at least we get to see the growing chorus of voices hoping for a Depression as part of a last-ditch effort to regain power. I wonder if b-cup will be by to reinterpret Malkin’s statement for us? Because I’m sure she didn’t actually mean what she said.

B-cup must be cursing that watermelon email from the Mayor of Los Alamitos. He’s spent over twenty-four hours bemoaning the fact that the good Mayor lost his job simply because he made a comment on race. It’s put B-cup way behind on his job of reinterpreting right-wingers who emphatically state they want the President to fail.

A concern troll’s work is never done.

“It certainly doesn’t make me some kind of racist for wanting to disagree with the President.”

Nope but it does let everyone know you are just trying to buy your time (and condo) by saying whatever happens to be convenient.

She already has — but doesn’t know it yet.

    Sad…

  12. Hoodathunk says:

Ralph, it appears to me the Republicans and their screamers actually do want a depression. Their policies built it and their propaganda is supporting it.

They must want to buy things up cheap…like America.

  13. tombaker says:

Did I catch a whiff of “this Obama guy, he’s just like Bush?” mixed into MsMalkontent’s flatuence?

Is this really going to be their “powerplay”?

Cult activity, if you ask me. The whole thing is pervaded with the air of Jonestown and Waco.

What a bunch of sore losers. They told us to suck it up and get over it when George stole the presidency. Can’t take their own advice. Give’em enough rope and they’ll hang themselves.

  16. shoeless says:

Well yeah. It’s their depression. If Obama ruins it by starting a recovery, they might not get a chance to cause another depression for a long time.

  17. House of Roberts says:

Hoodathunk, I think they want the Chinese and UAE sovereign wealth funds to buy up America. That’s where their policies sent all the money.

  18. tom says:

Nope, cupcake. In this case, it just makes you a mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, brain-dead dittohead.

  27. P.D. says:

  34. shoeless says:

MALKIN: When he proposes the same kind of wealth re-distributionist policies that had appalled me under the Bush administration, yes, I hope they fail.

But, Bush’s wealth re-distributionist policies re-distributed wealth from the middle class to the wealthy. While I personally found that appalling, I would think that a right-wing, fascist, Republican like Malkin would have been all for Bush’s river of money flowing to the top 2%. In fact, I seem to remember all of the right-wing Republicans cheering mightily at the time for Bush’s huge monetary gifts to the uber-wealthy.

  37. Crusty Old Bastard says:

My Friends, you are seeing the ultimate example of the difference between the Republicans and the Democrats. For eight years we watched the Democrats do everything in their power to assure that George WTF succeeded in something he did to save this Country from the situation we now face. All to no avail. The clown could do nothing right, even when he didn’t do everything wrong (maybe one rare moment that escapes my recall). The Republicans were in lock-step with him; cheek-by-jowl; side-by-each; nose-to-anus; preaching, teaching, reaching, breaching the wonders of King George the Dumb. Now that the shodding has occurred on the alternate extremity they only know that with which they have been ingrained: failure. There certainly will be failure in the eight years of the Obama Administration just as there was failure in the eight years of George WTF. The difference is that there is no difference! President Obama willnot fail because we will not allow failure. The Republicans are still the ones who will fail. They are the Party of NO. No brains, no skill, no balls, no hope, NO MORE!

  39. tombaker says:

Funny. I didn’t see anybody weeping or fainting, did you?

what i saw was the dark-spectacled eyes of Jim Jones, exhorting his flock. the Divine Father, with Neal Bush near his right hand, broadcasting the message to every asian cable station on earth.

what i saw was the wild-eyed slavering of jackals, slinking in the underbrush, trying to summon up the courage to go take the infant impala from its mother.

then i realized it was that buffoon from the radio, and a cadre of his dreary hangers-on.

  49. Dabb says:

I will never ever understand why any American would ever say they want a president to fail. Do they not realize when a president fails, our country fails? Are Republicans filled with so much hate for our 2 party system of government that they honestly wish our country fails just because our president is a Democrat? To me their statements border on treason.

  50. barfly says:

But, Bush’s wealth re-distributionist policies re-distributed wealth from the middle class to the wealthy.

That’s not what republicans consider redistributionist. That’s just making sure capital flows into “tighter, righter (and oh, so much whiter) hands.”

Malkin’s brainless quote is just a genuflection to Rush.

While she’s not really hoping to get any Limbaugh listeners with this tack, she realizes how much they can damage her, for not bowing low to their wingnut idol.

As much as some regard him as an earthly god, they’re going to have to find someway of adoring Rush, without earning a ride to hell…

She’s been huffing a little limbaugh; remember, the only reason Obama was elected was because he’s Black. People just voted for him because they didn’t want to be called racist.

    No, srsly.

  52. Mathazar says:

I’ll bet all the other world leaders are thinking exactly the

  54. Vincennes says:

So basically Limbaugh, Santorum, Malkin et al hoping that Obama will fail are pretty much allies of al Qaeda that also want to see Obama fail. Anyone pointing that out that these Americans are terrorist sympathizers and probably traitors?

Compare that with Dems/Libs/Sane people who didn’t want to see Bush and his administration fail, but put in jail for breaking laws. We wanted someone else in there to lead the country. These “Conservatives” genuinely want Obama to fail meaning they want the USA to go down the tubes. If that’s not treasonous I don’t know what is.

  55. shoeless says:

    Dabb Says:

    marquitin,
The race issue got thrown in the mix when (R)ush suggested that because the “Democrat” Party elected Obama they did so because they are the victim party and because Obama’s father was Kenyan and a black man, this makes Barrack a black man and the perfect fit for the “Democrat” party.

Although, if you look at not only how (R)ush painted Obama and the “Democrat”(IC) Party with one broad stroke, (R)ush appears to not only be motivated to be an obstructionist because of party loyalty, but also because of racial issues. Why else would race be an issue for (R)ush and Michelle? I mean, if I don’t want to appear AS a (R)acist, then why would I bring someones ethnicity into an equation concerning their ability.

(R)ushpublic’s don’t see that as being even slightly (R)acists, which is funny because anyone could do the same for Asians or heavy set people…
… You know, personal characterizations based on race, creed, religion, sex, gender, etc. as being a determining factor for competency.

Yes, they are bitter and mad because they lost power in Washington, but it is themselves to blame.

The problems that the nation is facing now were not created by Obama, they were created by these so called Conservatives.
They had the Congress and the White House in their hands for a long time.
They can’t sit down now and play the blaming game..they had their chance, they need to look in the mirror, they messed up everything from budget,to foreign policy ,to wars etc..etc.

Now the only thing that is left for them is to unleach people like Limbaugh,Malkin,Coulter..and many other radio talk shows to redeem themselves, but alas, the American people heard this stuff before and Americans are not ready to be fooled again.

What did Limbuagh offer to solve any of the country’s existing problems from health ,to housing ,to the economy itself in his speech?!!
    The answer is nothing.

Unless Republicans begin to offer solid solutions to help the hard hit average American, they will lose again and again.
Limbaugh and company will not save their party.
They will even shrink more as a party.
Talk is no longer helpful, action is.

Shall I enumerate any more? If Bush had been an honest president, particularly following the high he had immediately following 911, everyone would have supported him. FACT: He had a high popularity rating after 911; that is, UNTIL HE ILLEGALLY ATTACKED IRAQ.

Then Coultergeist, the HeMan SheDevil, spewing her evil – they had to fumigate the sulphuric acid following her stint at the mike I’ve heard.

And, last but certainly not least, Mr. Repukitude Ringleader himself, Rush, the limpballs, Oxycontin in his overly emoting glory. (You have to wonder how many uppers he popped today – phew….he was flying off the chandeliers and looking pretty simian.)

Is this all they’ve got? No damn wonder they represent only 18-20% of americans today. The GOP Titanic has just rearranged it’s deck chairs and Romney comes out on the top.

These talking heads just can’t bring anything new to the discussion, can they?

The Bush administration knew how bad the economy was tanking with the policies that were in place that were coming to their logical conclusion….. they were shoring it up artificially hoping they could get through the election and the economy would tank under Obama and his policies. Or worse yet, they were willing to sacrifice McCain and his presidency. The crash came too soon. But we know who the culprits are. Republican obstructionists.

And the Republican’ts aren’t doing anything to right this wrong. They are traveling in ever smaller circles. The majority of the public ain’t buying it anymore. Sadly, As Lincoln already observed… you can fool some of the people all of the time… I believe they currently number in the 25 percentile.

    _________

You say “Wanted Bill to fail”??? WANTED???

They went out of their way to deliberately undermine him at every turn. Richard Melon Scaife spent a shit load of money trying to dig up dirt to embarrass Clinton, and when he couldn’t find what he wanted, he told his operatives, “Fake it, if you have to…”.

  94. d1r1u1m1 says:

Your talk of big goverment means nothing, because you used the excuse of terrorism to expand the goverment far more than it could ever be by allowing american privacy to be stripped by over reaching laws and cameras.

This from the same “politicos” who, if the shoe were on the other foot would be loudly proclaiming “traitor!” to all who would utter such sentiments.

  99. Baculus says:

Michelle Malkin is so full of crap. Just at one of yesterday’s so-called “Tea Parties,” I saw a sign which had a picture of Obama with a Hitler mustache on it. There is very much an undercurrent, from the Right, to compare Obama with authoritarians such as Stalin (who was mentioned by Limbaugh), Hitler, and so forth.

Yes, the Right hates, HATES Obama. They just don’t “despise” his policies, as Malkin mentioned. They HATE him, and they hate liberals and the Left in general. They reflexively loathe anything related to Obama, and not due to his skin, but because he is a “liberal” and a “socalist” and not one of “us,” as the Right has been portraying the President.

So Malkin doesn’t even understand her own hatred and the hate coming from the Right. For many, it isn’t about his skin color (though it most certainly is for some racists), but his stances that cause hatred from her fellow right-wing travelers.

What’s always interesting, though, is to see the thinly veneered sneering on Malkin’s face. We see this same sneer on Limbaugh’s face, on Ann Coulter, on Sean Hannity…they just cannot help but assume a grimace.

Which, by the way, for American Republicans and conservatives to call anyone an authoritarian is laughable. They assume authoritarian policies, but it is fine if it supports their social views. It’s just like the elephant in the room federal deficit and national debt which were caused by policies they support. Of course, don’t expect the Republicans/conservatives to ever bring up this issue; As it is, they behave as if we have NO national debt or spending deficit caused by actions that they supported.

    They are ugly, ugly people.

  100. Shayne says:

Apparently Malkin doesn’t know she’s Asian and also a minority. But nobody else brought up the race issue except
    maybe Rush.

Anyway, where was all the crying over earmarks when Bush and Cheney were shoveling billions of dollars to Haliburton, KBR, Blacwater, etal? Oh, because they weren’t included in the budget and the crooks kept them off the books doesn’t mean we didn’t borrow money from China to pay for their theft.

  101. Shayne says:

Besides, Bush stole the election in Florida and never won the popular vote while Obama won a decisive victory even with all the election machine tampering and caging votes by the right. If people hated Bush at the beginning of his term it was for defiling the election not because he was Republican. We didn’t start hating him for his failures until later.

  102. Stevious says:

who asked you about race Michelle? Self-conscious much?

  103. ralph the wonder llama says:

Wow. Troll JK mentioned me by name.

  104. Teowens says:

When he proposes the same kind of wealth re-distributionist policies that had appalled me under the Bush administration, yes, I hope they fail.

Funny, I don’t seem to remember Malkin complaining about the bush tax cuts for the wealthy or the huge tax breaks for oil companies and other big corporations. She praised everything Bush did.

Malkin then became increasingly defensive, arguing, “It certainly doesn’t make me some kind of racist for wanting to disagree with the President.”

But Obama and everyone else who doesn’t agree with YOU is a far-left radical who wants to destroy America! Nice.

  105. dasm says:

Malkin: another sick, anti-American Republican. They want the U.S. to fail.

  106. Max-1 says:

    .

    Dear John Kerry,
I’ll give you you side of the argument…
… That I wanted GW to fail.

It seems that you’re not, in the least, opposed to the concept, then, if what your doing is the exact same thing, NO?

Then, why all the manufactured outrage?

If it’s not good for Democrats to have wished Bush to fail, then why is id OK for (R)ushpublicans? Because it’s a good thing?

Or, it’s not a bad thing to wish a president to fail when it’s (R)ushpublicans doing the wishin’, is it?

Or, if wishing the president fails, as you’ve asserted the Dems did for Bush, is a bad thing…
… Then why is it OK for (R)ushpublicans to do it?

Lastly, if you want a speck of credibility to your name, consistency counts. If wishing Bush(a US President) to fail is a bad thing, then shouldn’t wishing US Presidents failure be a bad thing, all together? If it’s OK when you do it, then double standards ought NOT be applied, NO?

    .

I think he is proud of being stupid and how thoroughly he has been brainwashed. Independent thought isnt just something he will never be able to do but a concept he is unaware of. JK just give it up. The only thing you ever do here is reinforce just how bone ignorant you are. Since that has long been established, and since you are INCAPABLE of doing anything else, you waste your time here.

  109. Constant Weader says:

“Some on the left accuse me of being a racist for disagreeing with the President” is a new right-wing straw dog that’s been trotted out in the last couple of weeks. Nobody says any such thing. This straw dog is a way of actually BEING racist, of injecting race into a conversation where it simply did not exist. The not-so-subliminal suggestion is that it takes an irresponsible, welfare-lovin’ black guy to come up with these socialistic, communistic, Stalinistic ideas. It’s a tactic that could scarcely be more disgusting or disingenuous.

    The Constant Weader at http://www.RealityChex.com

  110. marquitin says:

    #65 (Max-I) said: Lots of things…

But my question pertained to Malkin’s attempt to make it appear that the left is habitually accusing people of disagree with Obama’s policies to be doing so because of his race. I’ve never heard this accusation coming from the left, not even once, and I tend to read a lot of left-leaning blogs, such as this one. Is there any truth to her accusation that I’ve missed?

  111. tbone says:

Haven’t read the above comments, so somebody may have said this. The right is purely fixated on images of international grandeur. The only thing that matters is a projection of strength to other countries. It doesn’t matter to them what happens here in the states. Dealing with poverty, healthcare, jobs, etc is not glorious. What is glorious is victory on the battlefield and economic success in the vein of feudalism. Accomplish grand significance to exemplify your machismo, but who cares about the rest. Unfortunately for them, they never remember that bread and circuses will never pacify the masses indefinitely.

Let them root for the failure of Obama. Most people understand what that means. Their sentiment only deepens the disconnect between the Republicans and those that LIVE the downturn of the economy. It is one thing to lose lots of money. It is another to lose your livelihood. In my opinion, the Republicans have chosen to win back the people with the same strategy they employed in New Orleans after Katrina. Perhaps I am wrong, but until they see otherwise, I don’t think they will have any success, regardless of what their demagogues espouse.

  112. ralph the wonder llama says:

marquitin, I think Constant Weader answered your question pretty well.

It’s a cowardly tactic that tries to to put the other side on the defensive while at the same time clouding the water. If the Left spends its time proving that no one called her racist for disagreeing with Obama, then we’re not dismembering her shallow critique itself.

In a reasonable media atmosphere, such a tactic, once proven bogus, would cause her credibility to take a severe hit. But in the actual media atmosphere of today, “credibility” has nothing to do with whether a right-wing pundit (or even Michelle Anchor Baby Malkin) gets airtime. They just get it because the media doesn’t want to be accused of being “liberal”.

As you can see, the media’s strategy to avoid that accusation has worked like a charm.

  113. Anonymouse says:

“It certainly doesn’t make me some kind of racist for wanting to disagree with the President.”

No, it makes you an un-patriotic sociopath.

  119. Canny55 says:

Michelle Malkin is truly loathsome. I’ve read two of her books, and they’re some of the most intellectually dishonest arguments I’ve ever had the misfortune to read, relying solely on a distortion of historical truths to submit a case that, at its core, is far from justifiable. Like Ann Coulter, Malkin basks in an alternate reality where all liberals are unhinged (thus making her blanket statements correct) and conservatives are the unchallenged rule…eh, compassionate legislators.

True conservatism died with Goldwater back in the day. Perhaps the more centrist Libertarians could re-ignite the movement and slay social conservatism once and for all. Whether they intend to acknowledge it or not, social conservatism only detracts from a fiscal platform that they could be building…in a way that would appeal to moderates, of course.

As for now, they’re thralls to the religious rightists.

  120. Game of Life says:

I can’t beleive these people are given a platform. Right now Limpballs has a full audience on CNN. MSM is sinking to a new low. But then again, years ago the public rarely heard of Cpac. Now the minions can see how pathetic these cretins are.

I’m glad that CNN is showing this fiasco called CPAC. Maybe the average American will see just how utterly insane these people are. I have republican friends who are totally unaware of what is being said by their party’s “leaders.” Let the unemployed people in America (republicans and democrats) see what they are doing and saying about Obama while at the same time they’re watching Obama do everything he can to help out Americas from the bottom up.

  129. repubnomore says:

He was just plain incompetent. He failed on his own. We are all Americans, for anyone to wish the president to fail is to say they want America to fail. And, that is just plain unpatriotic.

    WEll said in #133, repubnomore.

  131. Joe the Philosopher says:

Rush Limbaugh exemplifies the self-serving, Machiavellian mindset of the far right. Now we see the extent of their self-importance and self-righteousness.

Limbaugh and his ilk are ignoring the fundamental reality that, with respect to the U.S. economy and our standing in the world, when the President succeeds, we all share in his success. When the President fails, his failure reflects on all Americans.

Limbaugh, Maykin, and other right-wing extremists would wish to see countless additional Americans lose their jobs, their retirement savings, and their homes, or witness more innocent lives lost at the hands of political extremists, merely so that they could sit back and gloat and the GOP would have a better chance of winning seats in Congress in the next 2 election cycles.

  142. Hawkeye says:

Malkin is the same nut that said Americans who didn’t support Bush and the Iraq war were ‘traitors’. Her actively rooting for our President and country to fail in the coming years is blatant hypocrisy and it’s un-American to the core. No wonder nobody trusts the Republican Party anymore.

  143. CitizenE says:

Of course these fools want Obama to fail. If he succeeds, the lot of them will go into a serious recession like the rest of America.
Insofar as wanting Bush to fail, for the most part a right misapprehension about the left, which leads one to once again understand how the right could use some instruction on the Freudian term, projection, most of us on the left had a hard time to keep from covering our eyes and watching his shenanigans through the gaps between our fingers.
Many of us feel, having been schooled from a young age on the Mother Goose rhyme, Humpty Dumpty, that Obama will have to be a miracle worker and very lucky to undo the abject failure of know nothing conservatism, a curse that will continue to keep on cursing American success likely for years to come.
Put on your cheerleader suit Ms. Malkin and recall your glory years–aka the Bush Administration. Racist? Why would you think that people would accuse you of being racist, when it appears you merely wish the failure of more than half of the American electorate? We all realize you are an equal opportunity fathead.

How come Jesus didn’t win them the election and why they don’t have enough “secular” votes to do diddly-squat? Why are they screaming at the media that they’re right when Jesus didn’t save them from a secular government? Satan must be doing this by sapping all of Jesus’s kriptonite.
