‘Fair and Balanced’ Fox News allows only Republicans to debate Obama’s budget.

This morning on Fox News Sunday, Chris Wallace welcomed Sen. John Kyl (R-AZ) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) to discuss President Obama’s budget plan — with not a single congressional Democrat or White House representative present to defend it. Predictably, Kyl and Ryan attacked Obama’s budget (Kyl called it “terrifying”); Fox News gave Obama’s critics an 15-plus minute opportunity to slam the budget without interruption.

Later in the show, Fox News panelist Juan Williams defended parts of the plan — but only after Bill Kristol, Brit Hume, and Chris Wallace alternated taking shots at it.

Any media outlet that needs to continually proclaim itself to be “fair and balanced”; isn’t.

Oh how shocking… **sarcasm (TP with more breaking news!)

  3. CParis says:

Actually, I’m not that concerned. The only people who watch FauxNews are the republitard 20%. Bringing on rationale, thinking Dems would probably make their viewers’ heads explode – and Obama would get the blame!

It’s like an atheist going on Smitin’ Pat Robertson’s 700 Club – the people you’re talking to don’t have enough brain cells to entertain different points of view.

On a related matter, I found this today:

Santelli’s rant on CNBC last week looks like a carefully laid plan by the rightwing which launched a “tea party site” started last year by the producer of a rightwing radio show (one which advanced the false Obama-Ayres connection) and seems to have been lying in wait for the opportune moment.

  5. unbelievable says:

From Paul Krugman, who actually knows what he’s taking about:

Many will ask whether Mr. Obama can actually pull off the deficit reduction he promises. Can he actually reduce the red ink from $1.75 trillion this year to less than a third as much in 2013? Yes, he can.

Right now the deficit is huge thanks to temporary factors (at least we hope they’re temporary): a severe economic slump is depressing revenues and large sums have to be allocated both to fiscal stimulus and to financial rescues.

But if and when the crisis passes, the budget picture should improve dramatically. Bear in mind that from 2005 to 2007, that is, in the three years before the crisis, the federal deficit averaged only $243 billion a year. Now, during those years, revenues were inflated, to some degree, by the housing bubble. But it’s also true that we were spending more than $100 billion a year in Iraq.

So if Mr. Obama gets us out of Iraq (without bogging us down in an equally expensive Afghan quagmire) and manages to engineer a solid economic recovery — two big ifs, to be sure — getting the deficit down to around $500 billion by 2013 shouldn’t be at all difficult.

I’m fully convinced after watching Bill Maher’s Religulous that if tehir parents had not informed them otherwise, that half the population would still believe in Santa Claus.

Glad education reform is one of Obama’s top 3 priorities after the current crises.

  9. Briseadh na Faire says:

Ok, so Fox News wants Obama to fail, his economic policies, social policies, foreign policies.

Reublicans have put forward only this: permanent tax breaks for the wealthiest segment of our society; abstinence only sex education; total ban on abortions; total ban on gay marriages; bomb the hell out of any country that doesn’t do out bidding (on borrowed, off-budget funds); no-bid contracts with no oversight; no regulation of the “free-market” but finance market failures with tax dollars which will be collected sometime in the future.

We are living the effects of the Republican Plan now. If they continue to get thier way, how does Fox expect to stay in business?

At some point, borrowing againt future tax dollars must grind to a halt. As jobs continue to be lost, fewer and fewer taxpayers must shoulder a greater and greater burden, just in reimbursing the “free market” for its failures. Eventually, that burden will be unsustainable, and the United States will be in default.

So, Fox News, Rush Limpbaugh, and the Republican Leadership which have joined Limpbaugh’s “ditto-heads” what are you going to do if you succeed and this country fails? Take the money and run?

  10. kasinca says:

The wingnut brigade: When a party is in power the past eight years and controlled congress the majority of those years and ran the economy into the ground and over a cliff, they are surely experts to disagree with trying to go a different direction. FAUX has absolutely no credibility and that is why I never watch any of the fools they have on that comedy channel.

  11. unbelievable says:

What these talking heads are actually upset about is that Obama’s budget makes health care, education, and alternative energy a priority. We know they all own stock in health insurance, legal drugs, gas companies, oil, and for-profit education.

  15. Marie says:

There is a growing chorus of parrots of the rightwing who are calling for Obama to fail – they ignore that if Obama fails, so does America.
Not so long ago anyone who disagreed with the president was labeled a traitor, even though those critics never wished for him to fail – they were critical of his policies. Today these loudmouths are true traitors calling for the failure of America to survive this challenge today.
What do they think they will do with their money?

  16. Peter C says:

Thank you for watching Chris Wallace for me; I just wouldn’t be able to do it. I have such a visceral reaction to seeing his smirking simpering face; he’s right up there with the worst of them. It stuns me that anyone could watch him and believe they were being told the truth. Could the 20%-ers who still support the Republican Party actually appreciate being lied to? It’s hard to believe that the ‘willing suspension of disbelief’ can actually be stretched this far.

We’ve got to find a way to take the microphones away from these frauds. Let them stand on soap-boxes in one corner of the park and be ignored. There is a right to free speech, but there should not be a universal license to broadcast.

  17. christopher wiwi says:

    From the original source:

“Within hours of Santelli’s rant, a website called ChicagoTeaParty.com sprang to life. Essentially inactive until that day, it now featured a YouTube video of Santelli’s “tea party” rant and billed itself as the official home of the Chicago Tea Party. The domain was registered in August, 2008 by Zack Christenson, a dweeby Twitter Republican and producer for a popular Chicago rightwing radio host Milt Rosenberg…

I can’t stand the sight of him. He’s sold his honor for dirty money.

Then, they’re going to spend the money they earn.

So, this program is going to work. It may take a year or two, but we’ll recover.

Then these wuckfits will be saying it would have turned around anyway, business cycle, blah blah ad infititum.

  38. Alecto says:

“While Easter is Clearly Christian, I believe the Easter Bunny is Secular.”

The rabbit is secular, but the label of “Easter Bunny” is definately religious.

  39. unbelievable says:

If you google it, you should find that the “Easter” bunny was part of spring rituals by pagans as far back as recorded history. Much like the “Christmas” tree, wreath, etc.

  40. RUCerious says:

So, Mr. Badger, if Easter Bunnies are secular, are Badgers Buddhist?

  41. Alecto says:

“Vernal Equinox Bunny” would be secular.
    “Easter Bunny” definately is not.

But, but, but, unbelievable, financial ruin, religion, and lying to children about imaginary friends in general are what made America great! We wouldn’t be the country we are without them!

Sorry, I was channeling a conservative there for a moment. But I’m okay now. Whew. :)

  44. Alecto says:

“much like the “Christmas” tree, wreath, etc.”
But they were not called CHRISTMAN before the supposed birth of Christ, correct. So when used in that context they are relgious icons.

  45. katy says:

rove is a very rude interrupter of discussions… he tried hard to bulldoze through it, but, as i’d hoped, katrina did a masterful job of keeping it real…

    ARREST HIM ALREADY! …jeezuz…

  46. RUCerious says:

The war on the Eester bunnie is just anuther librul scorning of our relijus rites.

  47. Angellight says:

Millions of people pay Federal taxes weekly or bi-weekly from their payroll taxes. They expect Government to institute policies which will help enrich their lives — not reduce monies for school programs such as drivers’ ed, shop, home economics, drama, gym, school lunches, books, and even toilet paper. Anyone over 40 had the advantages of these good school programs which have now become defunct. This is not how good Government should treat their young people while spending billions of dollars on killing machines and wars. These Federal taxes individuals pay into should be then given back to them by investing in good roads, bridges, sewer and water systems, schools, clean air, something which has been lacking the last 8 years and futhermore lacking whenever a Republican has control over the government — it becomes non-existant yet a place of a pretty good salary, great medical for the GOP Party who come daily to work to obstruct and be the Party of No!

  48. Badger says:

    RUCerious Says:

if Easter Bunnies are secular, are Badgers Buddhist?

I’m not sure. Let me meditate on it.

As a constituent in Paul Ryan’s District I can tell you we are not all behind this supposed rising star in the Republican Party. He was nowhere to be found when they closed the GM plant in Janesville, WI ( his hometown district). His platform consists of no taxes, no abortions. The Democrats need to target his district and send this Eddie Munster look alike back home to Fred and Lilly.

Warren Buffett recently said in a speech “The 400 of us [here] pay a lower part of our income in taxes than our receptionists do, or our cleaning ladies, for that matter” Mr Buffett said that he was taxed at 17.7 per cent on the $46 million he made last year, without trying to avoid paying higher taxes, while his secretary, who earned $60,000, was taxed at 30 per cent. If the news organizations really want to report facts, the debate about taxes could be resolved by simply publishing (minus all personal information)returns for an adequate statistic sampling of that top 1%. Start letting the statistical facts speak – Main Street America is smart enough to draw the conclusions.

  58. Ape-Man says:
