Calling them out on immature pettiness is quite purposeful in this context, but the sense of emotional wounding is unhelpful.
I really don’t care what these self-important infants want to call me, but the fact that they are attempting to offend me is important to point out.

This whole ‘Democrat Party’ thing is an exercise in what’s called ‘phatic communication.’ Because there isn’t explicit hostile content, it’s hard to object to it (as opposed to ‘Dim-o-Crat’ or ‘Dhimmicrat’) but the act itself is one of aggression.
When I was in school, people used to call me ‘Berno’ (my middle name is Benno). There’s nothing at all demeaning about ‘Berno’ except that it is not my name.It was meant as an insult, and it was.
It really is a schoolyard thing–but it was also a demonstration of their control of the media. They were demonstrating that they were perpetuating this slight, and that the media would never step in to correct them. Ant it worked for over a decade.
Chris Matthews finally had enough the other night, because the little taunt was also a taunt at him. Bravo. He made it possible for others to do so.
And Bravo to Rep. Kaptur. Democrats now have the power to be just a little bit petty, to call for that little jab to stop.
And it can be used to illustrate a point better than most other ways: How can Republicans call for bipartisanship when they refuse to call the other party by their right name? Doesn’t this show that they haven’t moved one iota from their previous position, and expect absolutely all the motion to come from the other side?
The grammatical discussion is proper, but beside the point: it is the Democratic Party because we say it is. That is the fact that the Republicans are defying. There’s nothing wrong with the name Berno except that is not my name.

These are really sick people who have been unleashed on a mission of sheer destruction by the big three; those who make money on the industrial side of the military/law enforcemnt, those who dig up the earth with little concern for human life and those who promote American inequality via financial greed. These people are a diseased infestation. They pass their mentally infected “fecal matter” via a belief system of superiority through religious indoctrination.

At this point, yeah…I think I’d rather be “red” than be a republican.
