House Republican Leadership Refuse To Say If Rush Limbaugh Is The Leader Of Their Party

cantor_boehner.jpgFollowing a closed door caucus meeting this morning, the House Republican leadership — Minority Leader John Boehner (OH), Minority Whip Eric Cantor (VA), and Caucus Chairman Mike Pence (IN) — held a press availability. Asked multiple times by a reporter whether or not the leadership agreed with the White House’s assessment that Rush Limbaugh has become the de facto leader of the Republican party, all three refused to address the question directly. Instead, Boehner and Cantor complained that, in their view, the White House was simply attempting to “distract” everyone from focusing on Obama’s proposed budget:

QUESTION: Mr. Boehner, what’s your response to the White House announcing that Rush Limbaugh has become the leader of the Republican Party, one that’s rooting for Obama to fail…

BOEHNER: The White House has created this big distraction so nobody will pay attention to what they’re doing in their budget. We shouldn’t be distracted. This budget calls for higher taxes and more spending.

QUESTION: How do you see Mr. Limbaugh’s role in the Republican Party?

BOEHNER: This is nothing more than a distraction created by the administration to take people’s attention away from the fact that they’re trying to raise taxes and grow the size of government.

QUESTION: Does Mr. Limbaugh have a role in the Republican Party?

CANTOR: Let me just say this: It is not about Rush Limbaugh. It’s not about Rahm Emanuel. It’s not about individuals right now. This is about real impact on families across this country.

Later in the exchange, when a reporter asked whether or not the leadership sympathized with Limbaugh’s hope that Obama’s policies will fail, Cantor said, “[I]t’s not about hoping that [Obama's policies] fail. No one wants this country or the economy to fail.” Pence, by contrast, tried to talk around the question saying, “Everyone wants America to succeed.”

Pence’s comment about wanting “America to succeed” is revealing because it forms the second half of the argument that Limbaugh makes on his radio show almost daily. As Limbaugh’s argument goes, Obama’s economic policies are misguided and will make the current recession worse. As such, Limbaugh argues, it is reasonable to declare, “I hope Obama fails” in passing his policies, while still hoping that the country as a whole succeeds.

But Pence is no stranger to the first half of Limbaugh’s argument either. Last night on CNN, Pence declared, “You bet, we want [Obama's] policies to fail.” The question is whether or not Pence and the rest of the House leadership would join Limbaugh in refusing to call the prospect of economic growth as a result of Obama’s policies a “good thing for the country.”

actually cantor, the question WAS ABOUT RUSH LIMBAUGH.

why can’t they just answer simple questions? to answer a question about a specific topic by saying the specific topic is not the issue is no answer at all, especially if you follow it with rhetoric and fluff that has no substance.

Actually the White House simply pointed-out that the GOP politicians who began genuflecting to Limbaugh whenever he criticized them were acting like he was their leader, and the recent ass-kissing by Michael Steele confirms it–Rush is the clearly the philosophical leader of the Republicans at the present.

Of course, you already know the answer to this one. If Rush wasn’t the de facto head of the GOP, they would answer “no, of course not” as easily as they breathe.

But they know that if they say anything about Rush that isn’t groveling, they’re going to have to bend over and grab their ankles for him as a consequence. But they also don’t want to go on record admitting what they know is true.

So their only option was to tap-dance. Unfortunately for them, their non-response just gave further confirmation to what we already know to be true.

Pannus is a medical term for a hanging flap of tissue. When involving the abdomen, it is called a panniculus and consists of skin, fat, and sometimes contents of the internal abdomen as part of a hernia. A pannus can be the result of loose hanging tissues after pregnancy or weight loss. It can also be the result of obesity. A pannus can come in many different sizes and shapes and can become very large, even hanging down below the knees. The extra tissue of a hanging pannus can make personal hygiene difficult. Skin conditions such as yeast infections under the pannus are common problems.
It’s also what makes pill-popping gazillionaire Rush Limbaugh so goddamn sexy he needs to fly to third-world countries to get his freak on.

You want America to succeed, but Obama to fail.

    Zha-wha-what?

It sounds like Pence is trying to distinguish short-term goals from long-term goals without specifying which are which. Look, if you want Obama to fail, you’re asking for America to destroy itself for the next four years or hope that somehow a Republican can get to a position of power in 2010 or 2012 in order to rescue it. Right now, the latter isn’t going to happen at this rate if you have no one ready to seize the reins of the GOP.

If you want America to succeed, it cannot happen without the government’s help. If the government is to help, it needs all three branches to succeed together. Asking for the executive branch’s policies to fail will lead to the failure of the other two branches, plain and simple.

They answered the question by going around it. Rush Limbaugh is the new Leader of the Republican Party and those Republican Law Makers have no choice but to do as he says. This is how bad the Republican Party has gone. Michael Steele was put in as Chairman as a quick fix for minority votes it failed. Rush has he says 1 million listeners so he was pushed to the front it failed. Remember even John McCain picked bimbo Sarah Palin for Hillary’s 18 million votes again it failed. Until one of the honest Republicans step forward it will be down hill. Boehner has never been a leader he’s a feeder. McConnell is more worried about his wife going to jail for violating the Hatch Act then the Republican Party. Senator Specter is so low in the polls he’ll do anything to keep getting a free ride. Eric Cantor is a closet who knows what and couldn’t lead himself out of a door. Rush Limbaugh will be the Republican candidate for President and even Homer Simpson would beat him in the election.

It is Rush’s parachute, if we were to continue the aviation theme.

A: If America fails, Rush can point the finger at Obama and blame him without pointing the blame at government over the past decade or so. Result: Rush looks good for predicting the failure, Rush wins.

B: If America succeeds, Rush can brag that he was right that America could recover without approving of Obama’s policies. Result: Rush looks good for predicting America’s recovery, Rush wins.

That’s his logic. Take credit for success, spread blame for failure. Rush doesn’t perceive humility, since he sees it as weakness.

These people need to take a long hard look at the latest WSJ/NBC poll:

    http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/MSNBC/Sections/090303_NBC-WSJ_poll.pdf

There is very little good news in that poll for them. Here is a sample:

And how confident are you that Barack Obama has the right set of goals and policies to be president of the United States––extremely confident, quite confident, only somewhat confident, or not at all confident?

    Extremely confident…….31
    Quite Confident………..23
    Somewhat Confident……..26
    Not at all Confident……19
    Not Sure……………….1

The key to this one is that only 19% are not confident that Obama’s policies are the right policies. That means that a lot of Republicant’s are at least somewhat confident that Obama’s policies are the right policies.

Which party do you think could do a better job of getting the country out of a recession––the Democratic Party or the Republican Party?

    Democratic Party…………..48
    Republican Party…………..20
    Both equally (VOL)………… 8
    Neither (VOL) …………….16
    Not sure ………………… 8

Only 20% think that the Republicant’s are best prepared to getting us out of the recession. That should give them pause.

And finally when asked about their views of the two parties, here’s what they said:

    ………..Very/Somewhat Positive……Very/Somewhat Negative
    Democrats……….49……………………..31
    Republicans……..26……………………..47

The Neutrals for the Democrats was 18 and Republicant’s 24.
