This morning, RNC Chairman Michael Steele appeared on NBC’s Today Show. Host Matt Lauer asked Steele three separate times whether he agreed with Rush Limbaugh and hoped Barack Obama fails. Steele avoided answering all three times, insisting that his own opinion was inconsequential:
LAUER: I guess I’m asking you your personal opinion. Do you agree with Rush Limbaugh when he says that it’s common sense that as a conservative he wants the policies of Barack Obama to fail?
STEELE: Well, my personal opinion doesn’t matter in this. My job as the RNC chairman is to take into account all of the various views out there within our party and try to put together a strategy and a team that’s going to help us win elections. [...]
LAUER: Mr. Steele, let me try it this way. There are many Republicans out there as well as Democrats who are unemployed right now. People are hurting across this country. Republicans like Democrats are losing their homes, they’re unable to send their kids to school. Do you think those Republicans want the policies of Barack Obama to fail right now?
STEELE: I don’t think that Republicans, Democrats or Independents or anyone wants policies that redistributes the wealth of this country…
Watch it:
The Today Show appearance cements Steele’s full 180-degree turn in less than 72 hours. On Sunday, Steele readily admitted that Limbaugh’s rhetoric — including his desire to see Obama fail — was “incendiary” and “ugly.” After Limbaugh took Steele to task on his radio show the next day, Steele was forced to bow down “to the head of the Republican Party,” as White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called Limbaugh.
When Steele was first elected to head the RNC in January, ThinkProgress wondered whether he would “join in as a Limbaugh footsoldier.” His refusal to distance himself from Limbaugh’s comments today makes it clear he’s a full member of Rush’s army of ditto heads.
STEELE: Well, my personal opinion doesn’t matter in this.

March 4th, 2009 at 9:51 amI guess the next thing to ask Steele, is that Rush’s foam on the corner of your mouth?
March 4th, 2009 at 9:52 amYES MASSA BOSS…..CYAAN AH DO A DANCE FO YA
March 4th, 2009 at 9:53 amWhy on earth would anyone want Obama to fail when America is hurting? It makes no sense at all. Steele is clearly afraid of the big old windbag! I hope Obama succeeds brilliantly.
March 4th, 2009 at 9:53 amFinally something with which all Americans can agree. Michael Steele’s personal opinions don’t matter. Who knew we could reach common ground so easily.
March 4th, 2009 at 9:55 amFor Steele to give homage to the Wizard of Oz is very sad, hopefully he will find his Ruby Slippers…
Knowledge is power and that is why there was very little reporting done by the Republican-owned media, that it was George Bush who pushed for minority home buying…. not Clinton as they love to distort about, and gave Speculators the go ahead to get minorities to buy homes in the hundreds of thousands.
Bush – “Calling a home the “foundation for families and a source of stability for communities,” President Bush proposed three new initiatives designed to enhance existing federal home buyer assistance programs by helping African- and Hispanic-Americans buy homes. According to the White House, fewer than half of all African and Hispanic Americans currently own their homes, compared to nearly three-fourths of white Americans. “We must begin to close this homeownership gap by dismantling the barriers that prevent minorities from owning a piece of the American dream,” said the President in a nationwide radio address. To close the homeownership gap, President Bush proposed legislation funding the following new initiatives:
American Dream Down Payment Fund
This program would provide money to qualified low-income families to assist in making the down payment on a home. “The single greatest hurdle to first time homeownership is a high down payment requirement that can put a home out of reach,” said President Bush. White House analysts estimate that the American Dream Fund will assist some 40,000 low-income families annually in making down payments on homes.
Tax Credits to Create Affordable Housing
This proposed initiative would provide home-builders and developers with nearly $2.4 billion in tax credits for building affordable single-family housing in distressed areas. The tax credits would help make 200,000 new affordable homes available to low-income buyers over the next five years.
Home Buyer Education
To assist home buyers deal with the complexity and difficulty of the purchasing process, this program would provide funds to agencies working to better educated first-time home buyers. Consumers would be advised of their rights and responsibilities as home buyers, and trained to recognize and avoid abusive and unscrupulous lending practices. “Financial education and housing counseling can help protect home buyers against abuses, greatly improve the loan terms they are offered, and help families get through tough times with their homes intact,” said President Bush “Owning a home lies at the heart of the American dream,” Bush said. “My approach to broadening home ownership focuses on empowering people to help themselves and to help one another.” Source: Dateline: 06/18/02
http://usgovinfo.about.com/library/weekly/aa061902a.htm
March 4th, 2009 at 9:56 amAnd because there were no Regulations to protect said home buyers who had a balloon interest at the end, well we see what has happened, and they still want to blame the home buyers instead of the scam perpetrated by lenders who first lowered interest rates to put people into homes then raised their interest rates so they could no longer afford their homes. Someone should go to jail for this!
I watched that interview and somewhere in it Steele threw in the word “baby” in his responses. This in ADDITION to refusing to answer the straight forward questions asked by Lauer. I think Kevin Federline might be just as effective as the head of the GOP.

March 4th, 2009 at 9:59 amDo you think, in his rush to get on TV this morning, Steele forgot to put on the panties that his mother laid out for him? The delicate lace panties for his delicate little bottom that is oh-so-red-and-owwy from the spanking Daddy Rush gave him? Do you think Steele bent over and grabbed his ankles while Poppa Limbaugh administered the discipline he so richly deserved? Did the Today Show provide aloe vera and a soft ass-pillow to soothe Steele’s rosy smarting bum, or did Lord Rush decree “as part of your punishment, no soothing balm, no cushions for you & you can only sit in old tattered wicker chairs?” And then Steele wiped a tear from his eye – not a tear of pain, but one of gratitude – as he was expecting the thumbtacks & lemon juice?
Gosh oh golly but being as moral & resolute as Rush is hard hard work! But Rush makes it look so easy!
Of course, Rush IS a drug addict who frequently vacations in areas of the world where underage prostitution is rampant; that may chill him out some.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:00 amRep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) issued the following statement: “I’m sorry Limbaugh called for harsh sentences for drug addicts while he was a drug addict. I’m also sorry that he’s bent on seeing America fail. And I’m sorry that Limbaugh is one sorry excuse for a human being.”

Pure poetry, TRoS–’scuse me whilst I blot the coffee from my keyboard. Don’t ya just LOVE what the rethugs continue to do to themselves? They’ve screwed the nation for decades; watching them now bleep THEMSELVES so thoroughly, so publicly, so frequently, and so predictably provides not only reassurance that what goes around comes around but also anticipation for the inundation of near-cosmic level trolls.
The trolls who visit TP provide much entertainment. . . but the ones at the national level provide pure bliss.

Nice smackdown.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:11 amMr. Steele:
What about the act of distributing hundreds of billions of dollars from the Treasury by Bush and his Treasury Secretary H.Paulson to mega banks and Wall Street barons?
Was not that called ‘distribution of wealth’ when taxpayers money went to ultra rich bosses who were not hurt in this financial mess, but still even collecting hefty bonuses from the bailouts money given to them by taxpayers? !!!
March 4th, 2009 at 10:12 amI wouldn’t be surprised if this were already in the works, or if someone in the Democratic leadership is sitting on some other embarrassing information about Rush, perhaps some piece of evidence related to his mysterious trips to the Dominican Republic.
Build Rush up as the embodiment of conservatism, then drop the hammer on him and throw the entire GOP into disarray.

I guess you ascribe to the “any publicity is good publicity” screed. If you think what these blogs are doing is to “promote” Limpballs, you have a funny idea of promotion. All the blogs are doing is lifting up the rock and shining a light on the worms that are under the rock. I’m glad they are doing it and I hope they keep it up. Looking at how the Republican’t party’s favorably ratings have dropped in the last couple of weeks shows that shining the light on the worms is working quite well, thank you very much.

March 4th, 2009 at 10:31 ami’m embarrassed this guy’s name is michael. i can’t imagine how republicans are taking this.
March 4th, 2009 at 10:32 amLaying aside for the moment the fact that Steele refuses to answer a direct question, he also refuses to acknowledge the enormous redistribution of wealth that took place over the last eight years in this country — redistributed upwards.
Republicants use buzz words like “redistribute wealth” and “socialism” to disguise the absolute bankruptcy of the ideas they have to offer America. In this sense, Steele is the perfect man to chair the RNC as its combustible parts swirl in the air currents as flaming embers, and the more lumpen portion teeters on the edge of the toilet bowl of history.

Excerpt from http://www.americanpolitics.com/20030103Letters.html
We have;
1. The rumor about DJ Jeff Christie being fired from KQV in 1973 after an arrest on Winthrop Street for gay pandering. This rumor supposedly circulated on the UPitt campus for weeks following the firing. Verified parts are that Christie was fired by KQV, that Winthrop Street was a gay pickup spot in that era, and several people have confirmed hearing that same rumor at the time. One person confirmed having heard the rumor a couple of years later in water-cooler gossip at the Richmond VA radio station where he worked. At this time, nobody knew who Jeff Christie was.
2. Verification that KQV’s Jeff Christie went on to become the man behind the Golden EIB Microphone, Rush Limbaugh.
3. Verification that the fellow who helped him get his second start in radio, and who taught him how to dress, was a gay man. Not that significant in itself. but you know, it is rather odd for a guy to be going clothes shopping with another guy.
4. The mysterious “cyst” that kept him out of ‘Nam. One cause of anal cysts can be receptive anal sex, but of course we have no way of knowing in this case. We do know that this was on his draft deferrment documents, and that he now denies that he ever had an anal cyst. (He did so on the air just the other day.)
5. He keeps getting divorced. Not a lot in itself, but one wonders why? And we hear exactly nothing from him about his current wife.
6. The hearsay from a posting elsewhere on this forum that Rush used to go drinking at gay bars in in CA. Mind you, I do know that some open-minded people who are not gay go drinking with friends at gay bars. Rush has never struck me as an open-minded person. Or do I mis-read him?
7. In spite of the sexual preference of his mentor, and in spite of having socialized with gay people in the past, Rush has spared no effort to trash “the gay agenda” on his program. He has been especially nasty to Rep. Barny Frank.
None of these things by itself constitute evidence that Rush is gay (or, more likely, bisexual), but all of them together form a growing pattern. This leads me, and others, to the conclusion that it is possible that Rush really was arrested in 1973, as the rumors indicated, and suggest that it would warrent the time and money of somebody to run down the leads, check official records, and talk to people from Rush’s past. None of this is proof, but it does suggest that the proof may be out there, if only it can be collected
This could really get interesting. Yes, brown acid, the arrest report would be proof, and I hope someone is able to get a copy.
I enjoy nothing better than when a vociferous voice of hatred and bigotry gets exposed as one of the very groups he preaches against.

It’s a curious form of psychosis, one shared by “John Kerry”. The troll psyche is simple yet twisted.

Geez haven’t you heard that it is a white house coordinated effort based on the under 40 demographic’s attitudes toward Rush? Oh course keeping him and his “leadership” at the forefront makes sense strategically

March 4th, 2009 at 12:16 pmNot to picknits, but I can’t really see Limbaugh having “lovers”.
Tricks, maybe. Not lovers.
March 4th, 2009 at 12:19 pmPoor Steele can’t steal a break. Definitely not the man of steel Stalin was.
March 4th, 2009 at 12:24 pmMan, we need our minority party back on track. I don’t want them in any situation that approaches having dominant power again, but we need moderate Republicans to give us good, solid opinions and options from the conservative point of view (even if we only agree with them 10% of the time). It’s important to have constructive criticism and alternate ideas from the other side of the political spectrum. It helps us see some things we may not be considering when we’re addressing the problems we face. Also, it’s not unheard of in history for conservatives to come up with really good ideas that we don’t see, just because we’re looking at things from a different angle than they are.
But recently the GOP has put Palins and Steeles in the driver’s seat and let the Rush Limbaughs of the world sit right behind them, kicking the seat, yelling in the driver’s ear… and that car has gone right off the road.
Come back to us from the dark side, moderate conservatives. Please.

His people must be grinnin’ from ear to ear over this. Not to mention the almost total collapse and burn of what remained of “progressive talk” radio. Can’t wait for the spring book to be released, talk about your confiscatory advertising rates.
That’s right sonnyboy, “his people” are raking in the dough while he SINKS the pathetic remainder of the neocon gop and their 40 years of bullshit and FAILED policies….
And we will continue to TIE the GOP to RushAddict and sit back and watch as he takes them further away from the mainstream Americans who ARE the US GOVERNMENT…..of, by and for….eh?
LMFAO
I’m with Uncle HO…..pass the popcorn and wait for the eventual TOTAL demise of neocon repugs….
March 4th, 2009 at 12:50 pmand btw……Al
Unlike the GOP, progressives DON”T NEED radio “personalities telling them what to think…eh?

March 4th, 2009 at 1:20 pmBut, but….but…. ….lefties are supposed to IGNORE El Rushbo, the right wing conservative messiah and One Lord. You’re not supposed to pay attention to him… it makes us righties look bad. Leave Rush alone you big bullies (whaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!). We’ll stop saying you love him if you start to ignore him again.
(pay no attention to the fat man behind the curtain… snorting oxy and getting pre-teen boy lap dances)

March 4th, 2009 at 1:36 pmRep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) issued the following statement: “I’m sorry Limbaugh called for harsh sentences for drug addicts while HE IS A DRUG ADDICT. I’m also sorry that he’s bent on seeing America fail. And I’m sorry that Limbaugh is one sorry excuse for a human being.”
You forgot that he is a Dominican Underage Boy Prostitute Abuser…
….must not forget that one.
March 4th, 2009 at 1:56 pmIm sorry Rush was an addict, its not his fault, nothing is ever Lord Messiah El-Rush Bo’s fault. No sir. Its always someone elses fault, always. Its those people who he demonizes fault they made him take drugs, they made him doctor shop, they made him take pills every day.
March 4th, 2009 at 4:07 pmSo, he was arrested in 1973? Ummm…In 1970 he was still in college at Southeast Missouri State College. Anyone know anyone in Cape Giraudoux, MO? That’s the area he’s from and that’s where he went to “college”…teeheeeheeee…
How do I know this…well, I have an apology for Rush.
You see, some of the girls form my HS went to school there (the school took any freshman with a 2.5 gpa)and they still think it’s hilarious (?) to about the party they at when one of them saw Rush coming up the sidewalk, wearing his high school letter jacket; they turned off the music, closed the curtains. He knocked and knocked..finally, one of them, who was “one-toke-over-the-line-sweet-jesus” yelled out, “Go away! We’re not home!” So, on behalf of those “mean” party girls, I apologize, Rush…they were the ones that made you turn out the way you…turned out…maybe…
March 4th, 2009 at 5:04 pmThat’s right, Mr. SteppinFetchit, your personal opinion does NOT matter. You done sold your soul to Der Fuehrer, R. Limbaugh. You have been essentially robotized and lobotomized. Bend over, grab your ankles and hold on tight (or not).
March 4th, 2009 at 5:05 pmI liked Rush better when he was an addict
March 4th, 2009 at 5:44 pmAlGore Says:
First post I have seen from a moron without a single functioning braincell. Sure this website does SO much to bring attention to the number 1 radio talkshow host in the country. A man who numbers his neandrathal listeners in the millions. They are truly morons but there are millions of them. They do this by showing his bufoonery to a progressive audience. I guess anyone that listens to the drug addicted Oxymoron might be stupid enough to think that makes sense.
