In a memo to her fellow RNC members yesterday, Dr. Ada Fisher said that their newly elected chairman, Michael Steele, is “‘eroding confidence’ in the GOP and that members of his transition team should encourage him to step aside.” She reiterated her argument on MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show last night. Fisher’s memo echoed reports in Politico that anonymous “key party leaders” are beginning to feel that “the GOP has made a costly mistake.”
This morning, Steele indirectly responded to the call for his resignation as he guest-hosted Bill Bennett’s conservative talk radio program Morning in America. A caller said to Steele, “I hope that Paul Bagalla and Emanuel and Carville don’t convince you to resign your position.” Steele responded, “Not me baby!“:
STEELE: It’s been a good week, it’s been an instructive week. That’s really what I take away from a week like this. … The instruction is particularly for republicans is that you need to stay focused, other wise you get scapegoated. [...]
CALLER: I hope that Paul Begala and Emanuel and Carville don’t convince you to resign your position.
STEELE: Aww, trust me. Not me Baby! Nuh-uh. Not happening. No way, no how!
Listen here:
If this has been a good week for Steele, we’d hate to see a bad one. He began the week calling Rush Limbaugh’s radio show “ugly” and “incendiary” last weekend. By Monday — following the lead of other Republicans who recently crossed Limbaugh — Steele walked back the comments in a public apology. The next day, Steele went so far as to imply that Limbaugh’s is the only opinion that matters in the party that Steele ostensibly leads.
Beyond Steele’s apparent inability to handle the public relations side of his new job, Politico reports that he’s having difficulty mangaing the organizational side as well. A month into his tenure, he has yet to hire any senior aides:
On the organizational side, Steele does not have a chief of staff, a political director, a finance director or a communications director. Last week, one of the two men sharing the job of interim finance director was forced to resign.
For now, “the fourth floor,” as the RNC’s executive suite is known, is being run by a pair of consultants. “There’s frustration that there’s no discipline, no planning,” said a well-known Republican consultant. “He’s risking being overexposed by accepting every interview, which makes gaffes more likely.”
But perhaps most ironically, Steele’s plea that the caller “trust” him is coming from the same man that told Glenn Beck last month: “You have absolutely no reason, none, to trust our [party's] word or our actions at this point.”
On the contrary, Micheal.
Please, please please, cling to the job, and LOUDLY.
After all… YOU DA MAN!!! YOU DA MAN!
(But only as long as Rush says it’s okay, huh?)
March 6th, 2009 at 12:02 pmWhen there’s someone this incompetent running the other side I think the best thing we can do is stay quite and get out of the way.

___________
Know what’s truly astonishing in this sentence?
No… no… not the fact that people are already calling for Steele’s resignation…
Sh*te… who WOULDN’T, after thsi start?
No… what’s really amazing is the fact that ANYBODY LIVING, in this case Dr Ada Fisher, will actually let them use her real name, and thus, link her to the RNC and this mess.
I’d be tinking by now, anyone actually IN thr RNC would be wearing a paper bag over their head in public…

The latter two are tokens meant to appeal to the majority electorate but the GOP faithful doesn’t want them doesn’t want them.
Oh my, what a dilemma!
March 6th, 2009 at 12:10 pmmy above post may or may not be a good stab at humor, but no offense is intended.
March 6th, 2009 at 12:11 pmFunny that all the Republicans complaining about Steele are saying he needs to get out of the limelight and start working on organizing the office and raising funds. So what does he do, host a radio show. He sure knows how to keep the base happy.

Come to think of it… most of your comments so far have been “too much said”. That is, if you were concerned about maintaining any doubt about your limited intellectual capacity.
March 6th, 2009 at 12:12 pmYou can’t make this stuff up! The Repugs are like geese in bird shot. They are in full panic mode. With Steele acting like a buffoon and King Limbaugh ruling over the lemmings. Quite funny, actually.
March 6th, 2009 at 12:15 pmY’know… this Steele episode kinda fits a pattern. Think… Clarence Thomas… Alberto Gonzales… Sarah Palin…
The pattern I’m seeing is this: the Republican Party, feeling pressure to reverse electoral losses by being more inclusive, elevates a minority member to a position of power. The minority member proves incompetent, thus giving the vast majority of white male Republicans some comfort in dismissing minorities as unable to perform.
It’s a variation on their strategy of getting into power and fu(king up government, to prove their belief that “government is not the answer”.
Of course government’s not the answer if you have incompetents running the government.
Same principle at work here.

Interesting phenomenon there… all the additional public scrutiny has certainly taken its toll… except in the case of someone like David “The Shitter” Vitter, who not only refused to resign after the news came out, but was also given a STANDING OVATION by his fellow GOOPers when he marched back into the House.
Who knew so many GOOPers were such big fans of diapers?

2)Scapegoating is the symbolic indictment/sacrifice of an otherwise innocent party
What the hell is Steele trying to say?
Sounds he;s claiming the Republicans are accusing him of something he’s not guilty of, and that that’s what Republicans do?
How would this inference win him Republican sympathy?

March 6th, 2009 at 12:30 pmSteele now knows where the real power of the party is,and who runs the show.
Messing around with GOP party’s king Rush Limbaugh who was coronated by the party at their gathering lately cannot be tolerated.

Appointees don’t run for public office whilst representing a national political party in a general election.
Palin was touted as the ‘answer’ to Hillary Clinton and the future of the GOP.
Jindal has been touted as the ‘answer’ to Barack Obama and the future of the GOP.
Samuel Wurzelbacher was presented as the average American symbolic of the GOP;s insistence that the US as a whole is conservative and thus Republican.
Michael Steele’s leadership is being criticized by his own party and the base represented by Rush Limbaugh.
The GOP, having chosen and promoted all these national figures are now regretting their choices.
Appointee candidates are vetted, approved or opposed by BOTH parties.

March 6th, 2009 at 12:51 pmCool, rush and this dude can be a tag-team.
March 6th, 2009 at 12:52 pmA point I haven’t heard talked about much yet is that the memo Dr. Fischer sent was an internal memo to, what she thought, was a 12 member transitional team. Somebody leaked this from inside the RNC. This tells me the bloodletting will continue for some time.
March 6th, 2009 at 12:56 pmDr. Ada Fisher looked a bit uncomfortable on Rachel’s show last night, but as always, Rach treated her with dignity and respect. The same can never be said for Democrats who appear on FuxNews.
Dr. Fisher wanted to get her side of the story out, that while she fully stands behind what she said about Steele, the e-mail in question was never meant for public distribution and that she believes in the values of conservatism.
Oh, and she wanted to shill for her upcoming book.
Steele is already in the slot, the dial set to “burn” and someone will soon push down the handle on that toaster. But you stand strong, Michael! I really, really want

Maybe because they’re so incapable of proving it for themselves and thus are desperate to grasp at any straws that float within arm’s reach, or is it because they’ve been taught at Troll Academy that if they say something often enough and loudly enough, it makes it true?
March 6th, 2009 at 1:06 pmLemme get this straight… Bush was in office for eight months before 9/11 happened, yet he’s not to blame for an attack on our soil.

March 6th, 2009 at 1:18 pmi bet you do.
March 6th, 2009 at 1:19 pmSo what happens now?
Steele got the chair of the RNC because a)the GOP is confused and b) they figured some ‘diversity’ in the leadership was needed fast (though not Alan Keyes-type diversity!). So they exercised ‘affirmative action’ by promoting Steele.
That’s also why Jindal was given the job of responding to Obama’s address—he doesn’t look like a typical Republican, but he sounds like one.
Meanwhile Limbaugh is APPALLED at the sudden libertine state of the GOP and steps up to the plate, sounding alarms, not against the GOP of course but against Obama.
Steele, who got his job basically by accident, now thinks he’s the shiznit and Limbaugh is just an ‘entertainer’.
Steel has half a dozen inside ’supporters’, Limbaugh has millions and a mandate.
Limbaugh tells Steele “[you] are not the leader of the GOP”.
Steele, by his apology, agrees with Limbaugh.
SO, although the GOP recognizes Limbaugh’s power in delivering a voting bloc (equal to that of the Evangelicals—what’s happened to them?) they also know that the voting demographics have changed and they need to be more ‘inclusive’.
If they lean towards genuine inclusiveness rather than the tokens they’ve fielded in the last 12 months, they risk alienating their base.
If they follow Limbaugh’s lead, they keep their base but make no national gains.
Basically the GOP has to fundamentally re-tool and that means they need time to develop new policies and new candidates. But the more time they take, the more the Democrats may consolidate their position.
The options are to accept present defeat and rebuild, or just deny and obstruct Obama and the Democrats enough for the GOP to point failure and thus look like a reasonable alternative again, in comparison.
Or they have to get meaningfully creative. But that’s not their MO—they’re conservatives! The GOP is in a real pickle. (The Democrats on the other hand, still shouldn’t be underestimated in their ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory—that’s what happened in 2000 and 2004).
March 6th, 2009 at 1:19 pmyour owner don’t like that talk, homie.

March 6th, 2009 at 1:29 pmbullit, are you talking about the work congress is doing to expose the illegal activities of the last administration. Damn straight I’m paying attention to that. Or maybe your talking about how the vetting process has been made more stringent and therfore harder for cabinet positions to be filled. Hell yes I’m watching that. Maybe your panting about how there is honest open discussion about bills and that there isn’t 100% lock step for or against bills on the democratic side. Nice to see as well.
I’m sure your not looking into your own party and asking how could we have fallen so fast and so far. Might want to look into that before you throw your invectives but your free to ignore the implosion of the GOP. Your ignorance won’t stop it from happening and could, quite possibly accelerate it but your free to deny.

March 6th, 2009 at 2:33 pmI hope he doesn’t resign. I am having so much fun watching this show. And his comment to “trust me.” That after saying his party could not be trusted is beautiful. What happened was the Republicans cynical attempt, to bring a black man into prominence for political reasons. They made little attempt to see if he was fit for the job. His job was to be black. Their token black.
The depth of Republican ignorance and racial knowledge is so poor they think blacks are interchangeable. The one is like another. So they hired this idiot. A man that suffers from foot in mouth disease. And surprise, Steele is the wrong man. He hasn’t the experience or intellect needed. He in no way shape or form is like Obama. As for Steele himself, he should have been more aware as to why they picked him. Being a Republican himself, he should have remembered just how rich Republicans feel about other races. His lack of awareness as to why he was picked speaks volumes.
They will end up getting someone to teach him what to say and when to say it. They are going to Sarah Palin him. Just stay on script and don’t answer questions. Or pretend not to hear like Reagan did. You remember. Hand over the ear and a smile and helpless shrug. The one that says, sorry can’t hear you otherwise I would answer you. It’s too late for the phony Bush, aw shucks stuff, or the Reagan charm. Now he has to either resign, be fired or open and close his mouth like a ventriloquist dummy.

March 6th, 2009 at 2:53 pmwhat crickets?
March 6th, 2009 at 3:03 pmI’m missing something. When did Trajan75 IQ start acting like a human?
March 6th, 2009 at 3:14 pmOh BTW the hillbilly talking and calling steeley damn a Tom isn’t really hitting the nail hard enough. steeley damn is doing what all repugs, black or white, do…tote the line.
All the repugs I know are on TV.
March 6th, 2009 at 3:28 pmNot me baby! He screamed as he slammed the screen door shut on the submarine!
March 6th, 2009 at 3:32 pmGotta give Steele a little credit – think of what a feat of will it must be to keep a smile on your face while lugging the rotting corpse of a crooked political party around with you 24-7, while a butt-breathed fat white man whips you with an AM radio antenna.
THAT is some powerful acting. Somebody put Steele in touch with Fred Thompson’s agent, pronto!!
March 6th, 2009 at 3:48 pmI’d be tinking by now, anyone actually IN thr RNC would be wearing a paper bag over their head in public…
March 6th, 2009 at 4:04 pmROCK ON, BABY M.S.! Or, as Michelle Bachmann say- “You -be- da man!”
Keep those veritable Rocket Scientists comin’- Curtis Sliwa, His Pilonidal OxyContinDeafness Rush, Michelle B.- keep ‘em comin!
And don’t forget to cue the circus music before you start talking.
March 6th, 2009 at 4:40 pmAwwww… Is Steele not feeling the slum love? The republican party cannot let him step aside. First of all, it would further embarrass an already embarrassing party. However… Keeping him around is equally embarrassing. I. LOVE. IT!
I don’t care what they do, quite honestly. Either way, they’re gonna look stupid. I’m all for stupid republicans being in the limelight. Keep on giving interviews, Mr. Steele! Hey! Get together with Palin and go on On The Record with Greta Van Susteren! She’s just the sort to encourage your outrageous behavior! She’ll give you some slum lovin’ baby!
I love watching the republicans crash and burn.
Someone pass the popcorn!

The word you wanted was “mettle,” RTWL, but “metal” works even better! The troll proved that its brain was merely metal.
