In his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference last week, hate radio talker Rush Limbaugh repeated his assertion that he hopes President Obama “fails.” In the same speech, Limbaugh took a veiled shot at former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who is one of his rivals for the leadership of the conservative movement, saying that people who say the GOP needs to move on from Ronald Reagan must be stamped out.
On NBC’S Meet The Press today, Gingrich fired back, saying that “you’ve got to want the president to succeed.” “You’re irrational if you don’t want the president to succeed because if he doesn’t succeed, the country doesn’t succeed,” said Gingrich.
Asked by host David Gregory if that clashed with the views of people like Limbaugh, Gingrich warned against calling for Obama’s failure:
GREGORY: Do you think that Republicans are discordant on that point, about whether they want him to fail or succeed?
GINGRICH: I don’t think anyone should want the president of the United States to fail. I want some of his policies to be stopped, but I don’t want the president of the United States to fail. I want him to learn new policies.
Watch it:
Gingrich’s warning echoes Bill Kristol’s break with Limbaugh on Fox News earlier this week. “Americans wish a new president well,” said Kristol. “They hope his policies succeed, as they should.”
Transcript:
GINGRICH: I thought Mort Zuckerman got it exactly right. This president has popularity, although the fact is that his current approval rating is about the same as George W. Bush at the same point in 2001. Fifty-eight percent for a new president is very normal because people, you’ve got to want the president to succeed. You’re irrational if you don’t want the new president to succeed because if he doesn’t succeed, the country doesn’t succeed. So, fifty, I mean, that’s not…GREGORY: Do you think that Republicans are discordant on that point, about whether they want him to fail or succeed?
GINGRICH: I don’t think anyone should want the president of the United States to fail. I want some of his policies to be stopped, but I don’t want the president of the United States to fail. I want him to learn new policies.
I told you Newt was pissed…
March 8th, 2009 at 12:30 pm“Learning new policies” is something “that ’80s show” Newt should look into.

March 8th, 2009 at 12:33 pmnothing more powerful than a po’ed amphibian. Might lay a jellied mess of eggs in an inappropriate place.
It will be interesting to see if newts are immune to the 24 hr ‘gottakissthefatmansbutt’ bug.

March 8th, 2009 at 12:35 pmOh Boy! A power struggle between Newt and Rush…?
Hang up the presidential bid in 2012 and prepare the apology.
March 8th, 2009 at 12:37 pmThe two of them mud-wrestling.
March 8th, 2009 at 12:37 pmRushbo the Hutt and the Gingrinch.
What an image.
The only real difference between Newt and Rush is, one is fat and has a radio show and the other doesn’t.
March 8th, 2009 at 12:39 pmT-minus countdown to apology in 3, 2, 1… Unhinge jaw, begin sucking.
Earlier this year, Conservative Justin Quinn posted his list of the top ten conservative books. I didn’t think it was inclusive enough so here are my top 10 picks of the greatest conservative books of all time.
March 8th, 2009 at 12:39 pmTangential to financial mess [that Limbaugh wants to continue to fail]
This is the real problem, these derivatives traded on an unregulated [dark] private exchange, perhaps as much as 600 trillion according to the BIS, is what AIG [in part] insured, but never held enough capital to actually cover. This is what is being bailed out. The sub-prime loans, bundled with other loans, were sliced up and packaged and sold to get these risks of the banks balance sheets. These derivatives are just bets, casino gambling, the taxpayer should not be bailing this type of financial ignorance out as they will just do it again.
March 8th, 2009 at 12:42 pmNewt Gingrish-Good Cop
Rush Limbaugh-Bad Cop
Both are called “intellectual giants” by Repugnicants. Both are intellectually dishonest.
Newt’s Obama/Bush budget blather is nonsense.
March 8th, 2009 at 12:46 pmGINGRICH: I don’t think anyone should want the president of the United States to fail. I want some of his policies to be stopped, but I don’t want the president of the United States to fail. I want him to learn new policies.
Like what? Your OLD idea of cutting the capital gains tax? Or more of the OLD stuff we’ve been doing the past eight years? Notice he said wanted Obama’s policies Stopped, how is that any different than saying you want his policies to fail because you don’t agree with them.
March 8th, 2009 at 12:48 pmNewtie won’t apologize. He’s picking this fight on purpose. He knows he won’t be seen as the leader of the conservative movement as long as Republicants slobber at Limbaugh’s feet.
March 8th, 2009 at 12:49 pmNote: the good cop always calls the bad cop “crazy.” I don’t know if I could hold him back, should he want to break your face. Afraid yet?
March 8th, 2009 at 12:49 pmGingrich Strikes Back At Limbaugh: ‘You’re Irrational If You Don’t Want The President To Succeed’
– - In an updated remake of “Clash Of The Titans,” Newt and Rush bring you “Trash Of The Cretins.”
March 8th, 2009 at 12:49 pmNewt pushes the race to the lowest global common denominator on taxes and worker pay/benefits.
March 8th, 2009 at 12:50 pmHow much longer before there is a true Churchly schism split for the Republican Party? How many factions are there that make up the Republican Party? There are the Religious Right which is reviled by the True Conservatives….the Bush/Reagan NeoCons want to kill the governmental baby in the bathwater and then the Limbots/Hannityoids who truly just believe what they hear come out of the mouths of their Radio Gods regardless of what is said.
This Steele/Limbaugh pissing match can quite possibly lead to someone much of an extremist for one of those factions being the new RNC leader leading to more failure for the RNC as America seems to be fed up with those extremists.
That’s right my precious…keep backbiting and in-fighting. It would be worst for them and best for Dems if one of those rightie factions goes spinning off into orbit where they can show their truly awful colors of what they stand for. We have them right where we want them!!!
March 8th, 2009 at 12:51 pmHey Newt, the American Taliban which you are a part of needs to learn new policies, ya a-hole.
March 8th, 2009 at 12:51 pmNewt doesn’t want President Obama to succeed, he is just establishing himself as the sole member of the GOP willing to stand up to Rushbo, thereby making all the apologists look like the spineless wimps they are.
Not that it will work in elevating Newt to leadership status in the party wandering in the desert, the party that sees Palin, Jindal and JoeTheNot as the faces of their future, but it will serve to divert Rushbo’s hate to Newt for a time.
PEACE
March 8th, 2009 at 12:55 pmIt’s so obvious Gingrich, Limbaugh, and the David Gregory’s of the MSM want this fight to continue so no one will have enough time to figure out it was the reich wing policies of the last 8 years that plummeted our nation into financial peril. Of course, Limbaugh says it’s the Democrats who are pointing to the tree and saying, “Look at the birdie! Nice birdie! Everyone see the pretty birdie! Awwww, nice birdie, so pretty!”. Spit.
March 8th, 2009 at 12:55 pmTwo men enter, One man leaves…
March 8th, 2009 at 12:56 pmThe putrid cesspool of conservative HATE-MONGERING philosophy is so REPUGNANT that the stench is overwhelming even those who have wallowed in it for years!!
Hate-mongering is festering into a major infection and (hopefully) will kill off the conservative movement in America. Ot at least keep it on the fringe of society.
CONSERVATIVES HATE THE AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE AND ARE DETERMINED TO DESTROY IT.
March 8th, 2009 at 12:57 pmGingrich,as an old Washington politicians who knows how to play the political game sees no hope whatsoever for Republicans to keep repeating Limbaugh’s words and support him.
Gingrich knows what sells and what doesn’t.
He also knows that the party must distance itself from Rush Limbaugh rhetoric if the party is going to have any chance of winning anything.
After all it was Gingrich who won Republicans the US Congress, whehter he was right or wrong on many issues is another matter.
The issue here is Gingrich wants to play the game right, and that is to stay away from Bush and Rush for the time being.
To score some points,Gingrich now attacking Limbaugh’s thinking.
The difference between Gingrich and radio man Limbuagh is that Gingrich is a politician and he knows what sells and what doesn’t to the public, and ‘not wanting the President to succeed’ is not a seller.
But if this shows anything today , it shows how Republicans are now in disarray with no leadership and ability to re group at this time.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:02 pmSome repugniscum pundits (like Kristol and ex-rep Newt) can see the potential damage caused to the party by the Limbaugh sideshow.
Repugs are slow learners, though, so I expect that it hasn’t run its full course yet.
It’s funny to see how ONE comment from Obama, ONE comment from Emanuel has provoked dozens of questions to Gibbs, and hours of discussion in the media.
The repugs have fallen victim to one of their own plays – and that is a good thing.
As for Newt, if he is considering runing for office again, he is merely positioning himself. If he does run again, we will see that repugs are bereft of good people and must resort to the politicians of 10 to 20 years ago for a leader.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:05 pmNewt will be apologizing to Rush by Wednesday.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:06 pmBoth are wastes of flesh, and have shown themselves in both actions and words to be human excrement. Yet, for the first time ever, I actually applaud a complete sentence spoken by Newt.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:07 pmIt’s official, these people do not work for us, we are their enemy. They work for corporate interest and their own little pet projects. Any time they use the old ‘the American people this’ or ‘the American people that’ line, it is just pure bullsh|t.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:09 pmThey should be thrown out of office on their a$$es, now.
go newt,

March 8th, 2009 at 1:11 pmComing soon to a TV near you…the American version of Sumo wrestling. Two overweight blowhards colliding and the end result will remind any Gallagher fan of why you should bring rain gear or plastic sheeting to the show.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:12 pmBoth Rush and Newt remind me of vultures fighting over the bones of the repug party. The party is in shambles, they have no new leaders to take the reins, so the same vultures are left to pick at the bones.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:12 pmUnfortunately neither Newt nor Limpball hold any office to get thrown out of.
But your right KeithH.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:12 pmoh yeah,
it’s a non-story.
it an administration diversion.
another tp post on limbaugh.
blah, blah, blah…

March 8th, 2009 at 1:14 pmRush is not going to leave Gingrich without any response.
It will be entertaining to see the two top GOP bullies lashing out at each others.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:14 pmThe issue here is Gingrich wants to play the game right, and that is to stay away from Bush and Rush for the time being.
Hard to do, when he echoes their rhetoric. Newt’s also on record saying “government is the problem…” He’s steering away from Rovian tactics, and trying a weird form of political triangulation. He has to berate Rush, to have credibility with party centrists, but in such a way that it doesn’t alienate the base. I think in this instance, we have two bulls in a republican china shop.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:17 pmmichael steele:

March 8th, 2009 at 1:20 pmNon-story, nothing to see here. Look over here at these shiny baubels;-)
Just watched a History Channel Documentery last night on the sinking of the Titanic. Very tragic accident. I expect though that there are Many (R)s willing to repeat history. How sad.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:20 pmBets are in! 2 to 1 odds Gingrich apologizes to the mighty Rush before nightfall. Even money thru Monday.
You see Rush Limbaugh clearly stated he controls where much of the donations $$$ go.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:25 pmPerfect! Sets up another week of all Rush all the time. I might even tune Rush in this week.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:29 pmHey Newt, can you answer the question ?
Here, let me do it for you.
No, we’re all in complete agreement with dimbulb, except for me of course, since I know how to read the polls that tell me most sane Americans disagree with him.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:31 pmPerfect! Sets up another week of all Rush all the time. I might even tune Rush in this week.
— I’ll ask the day “nurse” to roll you and your am transistor into that space near the front desk. The young folk either hate him or have never heard of him. Sucks to be old, white, male, and absolete…
March 8th, 2009 at 1:32 pmYou see Rush Limbaugh clearly stated he controls where much of the donations $$$ go.
And we should always believe him, because he’s never lied to us in the past.
I would think the big money boys on Wall Street would love it if Rush would just snap his yapper.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:33 pmThis works for Newt because he knows Limbaugh will not attack him—attacking him won’t bring the controversy attached to attacking Obama or Michael Steele. Limbaugh’s audience for the most part are racists, attacking Obama and Steele plays well with this group. Attacking an aging old white guy wouldn’t do squat for Limbaugh.

…so high; we can return the Senate to republican hands with numbers that low, if we can just obstruct until next year.
– Uh, did I say that last part out loud? Sh-bleep!.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:46 pmThis is all about appearances as everything else with the goppers.
Can’t have your party appear as the terrorists they are, right Newt?
March 8th, 2009 at 1:49 pmNewt has too much baggage to be a contender, but he does realize that Americans don’t like an unelected talking head leading a political party and wishing that the elected President of the USA fail. Rush has achieved his goal of increased ink, but at the cost of being viewed as even more of an idiot.
March 8th, 2009 at 1:50 pmTwo blind men struggling for leadership of a blinded party. Wonder how that is going to work out?

March 8th, 2009 at 2:02 pmGingrich Strikes Back…
The Newties are spoiling for a fight, after Cantor and Steele’s public wedgies.
Rush has a lot of padding, and probably can absorb any number of limp, ill-timed blows. And Gingrich has that history of ducking out when the going gets tough, as his former wives can attest. But Newts are slimy, and hard to pin down. He should do OK, unless Rush rolls over on him.
March 8th, 2009 at 2:02 pmNewt won’t apologize, he won’t need to; He’ll just explain to Hannity what he really meant and how the liberal media is distorting his message.
March 8th, 2009 at 2:13 pmAnd the battle for the “soul” of the Rushpublican party is joined.
Pass the popcorn, please.
March 8th, 2009 at 2:33 pmRush doesn’t care what anyone says, just as long as everyone is talking about him. This issue has nothing to do with the direction of the country…only the direction of Rush’s ratings.
March 8th, 2009 at 2:35 pmNext Kristol will triangulate Newtie And El Rushblob and come
March 8th, 2009 at 2:38 pm*come out on top
March 8th, 2009 at 2:38 pmI bet Palin wouldnt back down from El Rush Blo…she hunts moose.
March 8th, 2009 at 2:39 pmAs much as I detest Newt he is someone who might have a chance of rallying the few decent Republicans that remain. It would be nice to have a party capable of even a bit of dialogue.

March 8th, 2009 at 2:44 pmThe real tragedy of this episode is that the lying, bigoted, bullying, fear mongering, extremist wingnut, Rush Bimbaugh has so many listeners and is not laughed off the airwaves.
March 8th, 2009 at 2:50 pmInteresting that Newt should mention that the President needs new policies when the GOP always has the same policies. I would love to know what new policies Newt will introduce – BESIDES – capital gains tax cuts!
March 8th, 2009 at 2:55 pmI hope he gets famous for being the guy who single handedly led the gop over the cliff.
March 8th, 2009 at 2:57 pmRush Limbaugh will be sure to give us new ammunition this week that can be used to punch additional holes in the sinking GOP ship of fools.
March 8th, 2009 at 3:07 pmI don’t see Newt apologizing to Rush. He has his eyes set on running for President in 2012 and he is smart enough to pay attention to the polls that show high approval for President Obama and his policies and low approval of the Republicant’s. It’s a calculated risk on his part to set himself apart from the rabid right (even though in his heart of hearts he’s just as rabid).
March 8th, 2009 at 3:15 pmBut don’t you need to be irrational to lead the Republicans these days?
March 8th, 2009 at 3:15 pmflex Says:
The real tragedy of this episode is that the lying, bigoted, bullying, fear mongering, extremist wingnut, Rush Bimbaugh has so many listeners and is not laughed off the airwaves.
He really doesn’t have that many listeners in the grand scheme of things. The number of his listeners doesn’t even equate to the 28%ers who need a daddy figure to tell them what to think and how to act.
March 8th, 2009 at 3:16 pmXisithrus Says:
Next Kristol will triangulate Newtie And El Rushblob and come
I liked this one better!
March 8th, 2009 at 3:18 pmWant to flame the fire more?
Send email to Rush at:
ElRushbo@eibnet.com
And call him a pansy for letting Newt kick his girly, fat a$$ to the curb.
Then email Newt and ask him if he has the spine, balls, or guts to stand up to a loud mouth, drug addicted, racist, mysoginist, idiot in order to save the RushPugniScum party from self destruction?
That’ll keep the infighting going for another month.
March 8th, 2009 at 3:26 pmThis is all staged bullshit designed to make Newt more palatable to his own party and the Indys. If not for a heinous puppet to compare him to he is too wack himself. Compared to Rush he’s the heir apparent to GOP reason and temperance. I’m not buying it. These two are not at each other, they’re in the same club. The only one on the outside is poor, yearning Mr. Steele.
March 8th, 2009 at 3:29 pmSo, in reality, is Rush being allowed to be setup to allow the rest of the “crazies” to be considered sane? Since he has no political aspirations, he is the PERFECT patsy to have the animosity of the world focus on, and then the rest of the traitors will join the Dems in patting the citzen’s back afterward and say it is all OK. The big bad ORushO Been Laden has been defeated. ANd we still end up with the likes of Newt the Lizard Kingrich, et al.
I think they done made a scape goat who, of course, gets rish doing it.
March 8th, 2009 at 3:36 pm#67 Dixie Blood…Good point but I would much rather send the bloated basterd a regular letter by snail mail with no return address and a few letter’s to the station .
Perhaps a huge bunch of letter’s to the sponser’s would also be good.
Using my personal email address and inviting lush limpdick to infect my computer in his response is a no go for me…Blessings
March 8th, 2009 at 3:38 pmActually Rush is the only ine who could fit this bill. He has no need to be politically correct, has a huge vocalization machine at this disposal, and as an ENTERTAINER, he can say anything he likes, no matter the damage it does to the country.
THAT is where the FCC needs to step in. Force him to make a choice of satellite or terrestrial. Not both simultaneously. It only degrades the terrestrial. It is like allowing simultaneous TV transmission on network TV and PBS. He needs to be the poster boy for the destruction of Satellite TV. He is leveraging his terrestrial network to benefit the satellite brand. Like Howard Stern, he needs to make a choice.
March 8th, 2009 at 3:41 pmI’m with you, Bilbo. I doubt he’ll cave to Rush, and I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him try to redefine conservatism for today’s time (as David Frum has suggested). Newt strikes me as a calculating pragmatist who’s genuinely interested in seeing Republicans come back from the fringe. Rush, on the other hand, would be happy to see the GOP lose election after election just as long as he gets the adoration of his ditto heads (and the comfortable lifestyle that comes with it.)
March 8th, 2009 at 3:44 pmThis whole Love Rush-Hate Rush drama being played out on the radio and TeeVee and in the paper press is beginning to sound like a carefully scripted attempt at the headlines.
March 8th, 2009 at 3:46 pmGood point Witch1,
You want to keep your email address from lush so use a free account somewhere just for this type of thing.
You don’t have to accept his return emails so no chance of infection there.
Also, consider that if you can’t protect your computer from lush you might need better virus protection, spam, malware protection, etc software on your system. He and his supporters are idiots yet committed.
Peace.
March 8th, 2009 at 3:48 pmBETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA
In order to gain the political power they’ve enjoyed over the last ten years, Republican moderates and Reagan conservatives made a pact with the devil (the religious right and Limbaugh racists, fear-mongers and hate-baiters) to achieve the numbers they needed to defeat Democrats. It was a conscious political decision to manipulate and exploit emotions to win rather than to be intellectually and morally honest and lose.
Today, those Republican moderates and Reagan conservatives are caught between wanting to disassociate themselves with and or casting out the devils they empowered, and the karmic reality that they don’t have the numbers to hold on to or regain power without accepting and even advocating values that are dividing and destroying their party. The survival of the Republican Party has become so dependent on radicalism, that they have no significant political power WITH or WITHOUT the support of America’s lunatic fringe.
The idiom about choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea is certainly appropriate as Republicans are facing the dilemma of choosing between two equally undesirable alternatives that both result in Republican impotence in mainstream American politics.
March 8th, 2009 at 3:54 pm#10 Xisithrus:
“What Cooked the World’s Economy?, It wasn’t your overdue mortgage.”
http://sideshow.me.uk/smar09.htm#03071252
“In fact, what we are living through is the worst financial scandal in history. It dwarfs 1929, Ponzi’s scheme, Teapot Dome, the South Sea Bubble, tulip bulbs, you name it. Bernie Madoff? He’s peanuts.
Credit derivatives – those securities that few have ever seen – are one reason why this crisis is so different from 1929.
[...]
This was not caused by imprudent mortgage lending, though that was a piece of the puzzle. Yes, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were put on steroids during the ’90s, and some people got into mortgages who shouldn’t have. But the vast majority of homeowners paid their mortgages. Only about 5 to 10 percent of these loans failed – not enough to cause systemic financial failure. (The dollar amount of defaulted mortgages in the U.S. is about $1.2 trillion, which seems like a princely sum, but it’s not nearly enough to drag down the entire civilized world.)
[...]
Credit derivatives are breaking and will continue to break the world’s financial system and cause an unending crisis of liquidity and gummed-up credit. Warren Buffett branded derivatives the “financial weapons of mass destruction.” Felix Rohatyn, the investment banker who organized the bailout of New York a generation ago, called them “financial hydrogen bombs.”
[...]
The heart of darkness was the AIG Financial Products (AIGFP) office in London, where a large proportion of the derivatives were written. AIG had placed this unit outside American borders, which meant that it would not have to abide by American insurance reserve requirements. In other words, the derivatives clerks in London could sell as many products as they could write – even if it would bankrupt the company.
[...]
So what do we do now? In 2000, the 106th Congress as its final effort passed the Commodity Futures Modernization Act (CFMA), and, disgracefully, President Clinton signed it. It opened up the bucket-shop loophole that capsized the world’s economic system. With the stroke of a presidential pen, a century of valuable protection was lost.

March 8th, 2009 at 4:43 pmWhy does Rush Limbaugh hate America?
March 8th, 2009 at 4:47 pmNewt.
March 8th, 2009 at 4:53 pmPander, much?
Newt, what a blowhard? What policies would he like to replace Obama’s with? Republican policies that got us into this quagmire?
Anything Obama does is better then the last eight years of Bush. And Reagan was a charmer, but let’s not forget some of his colossal failures.
1.A tripling of government spending. 2. We became a debtor nation for the first time under Reagan. 3. He destroyed the union of the air contollers because they wanted better equipment for safety reasons.
4. He gave us Iran Contra.
5. We had a double digit recession that lasted nearly two years.
6. He emptied the mental hospitals out with former patients holding their RX. He thought most of them could be allowed outside. At the same time he cut the social services budget so there was no one to monitor the patients taking their meds, and most ended up on the streets. That was where our homeless battle got off the ground.
7. He tried fudging the unemployment numbers by counting the military as part of the employment figures.
8. He cut head start and school lunch programs. He claimed that catsup on the lunch program counted as vegetable. Actually it’s citrus not a vegetable.
7. More than 120 of his administration were either jailed, investigated and or had to leave office under a cloud.
8. He lied. He claimed to have been along with one of the military units in WW2 that liberated a concentration camp. Actually he never left Hollywood. He made some training films for the Army and made movies because most of the leading stars were overseas. He told a story about a welfare queen who drove a Cadillac and had a very expensive lifestyle on taxpayers. When the story was investigated one of the reporters said it was not true. Reagan smiled and said,”yes but it was a good story wasn’t it.”
This is the man loved by the GOP. As far as I can see Newt comes from the same kind of twisted logic. Limbaugh represents the GOP because that is all they deserve. To say that Reagan was not as bad as Bush is true. And it damns by faint praise. The Reagan era is over. And when you see what Bush has given us, he makes the Reagan era look great.
March 8th, 2009 at 4:53 pmIf things keep going the way they are folks who work on Wall Street will be taking a boat to work.
March 8th, 2009 at 4:53 pmBecause there’s big money in it.
As long as it’s properly disguised, that is.
March 8th, 2009 at 4:58 pmWith Rush’s salary of $40 million a year it doesn’t matter what the economy or market does. He’ll have plenty of ready cash to do whatever he needs to.
March 8th, 2009 at 5:02 pmWill do #1. Hope your day is going well.
March 8th, 2009 at 5:02 pmWhat’s the matter, Newr? Grendel not behaving?
March 8th, 2009 at 5:14 pmIf our ideas are so great how come after 200+ years of our existence we are the only country embracing them?
And, how come most of the rest of the ‘civilized world’ has a better handle on life than we do?
March 8th, 2009 at 5:22 pmWake up America! We are alone in the world. Even our allies think we are egotistical nutbags. If we can’t play nice with others, does that make us bullies or idiots?
Or both?
March 8th, 2009 at 5:27 pmNewter probably had his fingers crossed and winked as he said it. The Gopers are liars first.
March 8th, 2009 at 5:30 pmThis whole thing looks orchestrated to me.
Newt speaking out. David Frum on ABC today, reminding viewers that Rush Limbaugh is less popular in the polls than …get this..Jerimiah Wright! And Frum is on the cover of Newsweek.
Here’s what Limbaugh is saying ….the Republicans MUST stay true to the Philosophy of Ronald Reagan.
Here’s the disconnect…What Reagan Said about Goverment is “The Govt. IS the Problem, and will only make things worse”
What the American People are saying to the Government…”DO SOMETHING”.
The American people (Most anyhow) no longer trust the Unfettered Free Mkt. to run things.
Not only have these Financial Geniuses been shown to be GREEDY and DISHONEST, but they were Also STUPID and INCOMPETENT. Their clever schemes have all but wrecked the world Economy.
Newt Knows this…and he knows the
March 8th, 2009 at 6:00 pmAmerican people know it too. :/
OOOps.. Rush is on the Cover. Frum wrote the Article.
March 8th, 2009 at 6:03 pmcurious
Don’t forget:
>>raygun’s wink-and-a-nod ollie LA crack infestation.
>>raygun’s AIDS scare which exacerbated the gay scare. raygun’s scare sorta put gays back in the closet after 10 years of freedom.
Excuse me but raygun nor any other repug is better than the next repug. repugs/conser/neocon are all the same in my book.
Gawd. I would love to had kicked a chair out from under his ass.
March 8th, 2009 at 6:07 pmThis whole thing is a carefully staged charade. I’ve heard Gingrich on Limbaugh’s show several times over the years and they can never unzip each other’s fly fast enough. Does anyone really think that they are now going to substantively disagree? Do you also think it coincidence that the only two righties who dare contradict Limbaugh, and as a result sound moderate and intellectually engaged, are two neocons; Kristol and Gingrich? The fact is that Limbaugh will say or do anything his dark masters bid him do. He is the Saruman of the Republican party. Powerful and clever, but ultimately, a tool. He will play a buffoon if they need it and sign paychecks that are large enough (and if they’ve got pics of him with underage Dominican boys). The current crop of rank and file Republicans are dismal failures with the American people and need to be replaced or brought to the neocon heel. All this froth is merely a start at four year repackaging of neocon ideology into the next, same as the last, American Idol.
March 8th, 2009 at 6:11 pmSounds like newt is trying to fill the leadership vacuum. Too bad his policies are not the ones the American public voted for lately.
March 8th, 2009 at 6:12 pmIt’s up to Limba to call him out on it. He won’t. He’s not that powerful yet. Unless he thinks he is..
March 8th, 2009 at 6:16 pmOh wait – it’s up to the MSM to call him on it. They won’t. They’re not that objective.
March 8th, 2009 at 6:18 pmOn topic, we have a member of the Republican party who seems to have his head somewhere other than buried up a psychotic entertainers butt. Why this is so is probably involved with a remote possibility that in two to three years he might decide to run for the Presidency. Considering his track record, it is smoke and mirrors.
What is the back story is a member of the Republican party (ignoring his personal reasons which are specious at best) who is challenging the idea that America might actually be considering listening to a college dropout, closet homosexual who has issues that would put most people into a closed medical facility.

March 8th, 2009 at 6:26 pmDoncha just love the canned troll responses?
March 8th, 2009 at 6:29 pmWhat a sickening cast of characters:
Rush Limbaugh – chickenhawk, draft dodger, racist, drug addict, hate monger.
March 8th, 2009 at 6:30 pmNewt Gingrich – chickenhawk, draft dodger, dead beat dad, womanizer.
Karl Rove – chickenhawk, draft dodger, exposed CIA agents.
RNC chairman Michael Steele – criticizes Limbaugh one day and begs for forgiveness the next day.
Congressman Eric Cantor ( Republican Whip) – see RNC chairman Michael Steele.

Irony… it does a roll good…
In other news of the day… any truth to the rumors Newtie & El Rushblo have decided to settle matters once and for all in the Steel Death Cage… fatto a fatto… two modern American Sumos, snorting, sweating, slapping bellies until one surrenders… will the winner eat what he kills?
Now THAT would do wonders for Fox’s ratings…

Hehe… happens when you come onto a thread late in the day… ever see Celebrity Death Match, back in the late 90′?
Just a thought… everyone keeps talking about Rush’s “$40MM salary”.
How do we know that’s true? Any chance that number’s been inflated, like all those “conservative bestsellers” on the NY TImes’ book lists, just to make the Fat man look more important than he is? Just asking…
March 8th, 2009 at 6:44 pmTwo old fat guys. meeting in a ring. A moment of tension and then…collision!!!! Explosion!!!! Detritus spewed over the front 20 rows!!!! Aaaaaaccccgggghhhhh! Who forgot to bring their umbrella?

March 8th, 2009 at 6:50 pmGINGRICH: I want him (Obama) to learn new policies.

And what would those new policies be, Newt?
More of the same as the last 8 years?
Reaganomics?
Legalizing slavery?
Mercantilism?
Feudalism?

Certainly not in the traditional sense of the word…
March 8th, 2009 at 6:51 pmSumos are impressive. Weird but impressive. I’d thinl Rush and Newt could do the nekkid thin and not give the advantage of something to grab.

March 8th, 2009 at 7:02 pmOh No!! It’s Sir Newt Nit-Twitt-er, Social Darwinist Extraordinaire. Go away Newt. Haven’t you noticed? No matter how much you like to substitute your lies with what the truth really is, the majority of the people in this country really don’t give a shit what you say anymore…so why don’t you just go away. Take your little ball and go home. There is a new game going on if you haven’t noticed…
March 8th, 2009 at 7:03 pmSorry TRoS. But an overweight amphibian versus an obese elephant wannabe? We are talking prime time, major ratings coup.
March 8th, 2009 at 7:04 pmYeah, I did forget the white bit but I deliberately left the impotent part out. Viagra gets enough screen time.
March 8th, 2009 at 7:05 pmCan you imagine Newt or Rush walking into an ER and saying…excuse me, I have a problem with this 4 hour erection?
March 8th, 2009 at 7:12 pmmostly because I can’t find it?
March 8th, 2009 at 7:13 pmOh Boy! A power struggle between Newt and Rush…?
Hang up the presidential bid in 2012 and prepare the apology.
March 8th, 2009 at 7:27 pmJust think, a few years back these two were holding hands and watching and helping America fall off of a cliff.
March 8th, 2009 at 7:33 pmWaiting with amusement for the new goppper talking points coming out soon…. I am sure they are working furiously this week end to undo the image of wanting our country to fail and to restore their lock step unity.
March 8th, 2009 at 7:44 pmMy real concern regarding the GOP being lost in the wilderness is that they are not very good stewards of the environment. Maybe someone needs to lead them home before they cause more problems…
March 8th, 2009 at 8:00 pmWhile Rush acting as if he is mad and angry at some people like Steele, Obama, and Newt, the reality is Rush is enjoying his best days of attention he is getting these days.
Attention by which he lives and dies.
After all these years behind his radio’s microphone, Rush Limbaugh did learn to encourage and prolong contoroversial ‘tit for tat’ debates, because they are good for him and his business.
Nowadays, Rush even demanded that the President Obama should come to his show and debate him there.
March 8th, 2009 at 8:26 pmThat will be the climax moment that Rush Limbaugh dreams of.
What are the odds that Gingrich will apologize to Rushbo?
I need to get my a** to the bookie!
March 8th, 2009 at 8:28 pmYou can almost see the lightning bolts as these two great intellects clash.

March 8th, 2009 at 11:21 pmAll of these Republicans who ape the rhetoric of a meritocracy and the market place of ideas have the nerve to show their faces in public after being wrong on the economy, wrong on Iraq, wrong on what it takes to govern a nation in general. GO AWAY!!! I don’t understand why its even safe for a Newt or a Rove or any of these clowns to walk down the street. YOU PEOPLE HAVE DESTROYED THIS COUNTRY. It may be too far gone to revive yet they show up on these shows giving advice.
March 9th, 2009 at 1:22 amGingrich Strikes Back At Limbaugh: ‘You’re Irrational If You Don’t Want The President To Succeed’
March 9th, 2009 at 2:15 ami agree % 100
Newt is going to repackage the old, tired, proven to fail republican free market failed republican strategies and put a bow on it this time. The monkeys love shiny things like bright ribbons.
Newt is the guy during the Bush years that gave a speech that he supported prohibiting “Free Speech”. Because Americans expressing their opinions gets in the way of dictatorial powers of his imagined presidency in America.
Yet the Newt does agree with the Oxy-viagra man. He wants Obama’s policies to fail. Obama being the president that is trying to impliment an economic recovery. Newt wants it to fail?
In other words Newt feels this country is so close to colapsing that they, (the royalty) can rebuild and restructure America and re write the constitution.
They hate America and that is why Newt could never bring himself to serve his country in the military to defend it.
March 9th, 2009 at 2:46 amGINGRICH: I don’t think anyone should want the president of the United States to fail. I want some of his policies to be stopped, but I don’t want the president of the United States to fail. I want him to learn new policies.
March 9th, 2009 at 6:36 amI am stunned that a man as smart as Newt Gingrich badmouths Rush Limbaugh while espousing exactly the same position as Rush. Newt wants Obama to learn different policies. So does Rush. Newt does not want Obama to pursue the policies of socialism which are the policies he is promoting right now. Neither does Rush Limbaugh. Newt and Rush completely agree that Obama is on a completely wrong track. It is the semantic game of politically correct speech when Newt scorns Rush for saying “I hope he fails.”
March 9th, 2009 at 8:25 amActually, I, too, hope that Obama fails to take this country into the sewer of socialism. That outcome would be a sad end for a great nation. But that is where Obama is taking us. I weep for the USA, and for me. Where do I go now to live free and prosper?
Well, since most outright fascist nations in today’s world are predominantly Muslim nations, I think you will have a hard time finding a country that is right for you. But I sincerely hope you start the search right away.
March 9th, 2009 at 12:04 pmMax-1 in comment 5 said that Gingrich wanted more terrorist attacks. I listened to the video link provided; it makes clear that Gingrich was not seriously wanting an attack (what an absurd idea). He was making a point that Americans may think the threat of terrorism is not as great as it truly is. Even though I support Obama, I think it’s important to understand the conservative viewpoint, and at the moment, only one person in the country is articulating that — Gingrich. The rest of them are busy protecting themselves from Limbaugh.

Exactly so. The right realized in 64 when a very popular conservative. Barry Goldwater got destroyed in the election that they would NEVER win by selling their ideas. So they knew they would have to lie early and lie often. Since they KNEW they would never sell their agenda they had to sell something else to get the power to push their agenda and they HAD to do exactly what you outlined.

March 10th, 2009 at 9:34 amI think that it is unfortunate that so many people lack the understanding that this is a Federal Government that is out of control. The Obama administration just pledged $900 million in U.S. taxpayer-funded aid to Hamas-controlled Gaza and Mahmoud Abbas’ Palestinian Authority. Do you syncophants really think that this is good policy? I guess that I should expect some “Israeli agression” nonsense. Until mortars fall in your backyard and in the playgrounds of your children’s schools you will not understand what it is to be provoked. Or maybe you would try to pay your attackers off too.
