Texas Legislature To Honor ‘Dynamic Texan’ Bush For Advancing American ‘Safety and Prosperity’

bushcowboyweb.jpgWhile former President George W. Bush has kept a low profile since vacating the Oval Office, many of his closest allies have been working hard to “set the record straight” about a presidency recently ranked by historians as one of the worst ever.

Last month, all 20 Texas Republicans in the U.S. House backed a bill to rename a federal courthouse in Midland, TX in Bush’s name. Now, their colleagues in the state legislature plan to further the cause with a resolution calling Bush a “dynamic Texan” and honoring him for his dedication to “the safety and prosperity of his fellow citizens”:

The Texas House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on a resolution this week that honors former President George W. Bush.

“The Bush administration met numerous foreign policy challenges, while also making constructive progress in relations with India and sustaining a solid relationship with China,” the resolution reads, according to the Austin Statesman. It adds that Bush “lived each day with the safety and prosperity of his fellow citizens foremost in his mind; he took a principled stance on a wide range of issues of great importance to every American, and his tireless efforts will not soon be forgotten.

But it appears the Texas legislature hasn’t been paying much attention to the last eight years because regardless of what was “in his mind,” Bush actually failed to increase the “safety and prosperity” of Americans. Last December, a report by the congressionally-mandated Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism faulted Bush administration policies that have left America more susceptible than ever to a terror attack involving weapons of mass destruction:

Though U.S. policy and strategy have made progress, they have not kept pace with the growing risks. In the area of counterterrorism, our government has innovated and implemented new initiatives since 9/11, but its focus has been mainly limited to defense, intelligence, and homeland security programs and operations.

In addition, the U.S. was hardly prosperous under Bush, who “presided over the weakest eight-year span for the U.S. economy in decades.”

The measure honoring Bush is on the House’s “Congratulatory and Memorial Calendar” and is not expected to receive opposition. The House will also recognize former First Lady Laura Bush, as well as “the Blinn College Lady Buccaneers volleyball team” and “Bellville’s Bonnie Blum as Region Six teacher of the year.”

I am in full support of such a resolution. I think it should be permanently rendered in bronze or platinum, in the form of a piece of art suitable for framing. My only hope, though, is that such art can be displayed in a federal prison cell.

Safety for the terrorists as we put all our focus on Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with 9/11. Safety for Bin Laden as we pulled our troops back after pin pointing Bin Ladens location in Tora Bora.

Prosperity for the wealthy, the elite, oil/energy companies, Halliburton, KBR, Bechtel, BlackwaterUSA, Dynacorps, The Carlyle Group…the average American citizen, not so much.

Who would have thought the W. in Shrub’s middle name stood for “War Criminal”. They already named a freeway after Cheney’s stooge and now they are wasting time on this crap. I am convinced Texas should be spelled with 2 s’s. Here is another sterling example of crap from Texas. A brain dead judge that actually said, “We can’t give new trials to everyone who establishes, after conviction, that they might be innocent,” she later told the television news program “Frontline.” “We would have no finality in the criminal justice system, and finality is important.” She was too busy waiting on a repairman at home and refused to leave her office open long enough for a condemned man’s lawyer to file an appeal on the day of his execution.

At least the author of the article decreased the level of sarcasm present in that last phrase. We WILL NOT soon forget the economic depression and homelessness the george w. bush administration created.

Sure if you define Safety as failing to meet national security goals.

In recent days, several media figures, including MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski and CNN’s Tom Foreman and Campbell Brown, have either uncritically reported or echoed Dick Cheney’s assertion that the Bush administration’s anti-terrorism policies have kept the United States safe. These media figures did not note that a 2008 GAO report found that the U.S. “has not met its national security goals to destroy terrorist threats and close the safe haven” in Pakistan, or that many CIA analysts reportedly believe Al Qaeda leaders have declined to attack the U.S. again for strategic reasons, not due to the Bush administration’s counterterrorism policies.

And Prosperity as giving the US its slowest cycle of economic growth since WWII and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

Growth rates of GDP, investment, and other key economic indicators during the 2001-2007 expansion were below the average for other post-World War II economic expansions (see Figure 2). Growth in wages and salaries and non-residential investment was particularly slow relative to previous expansions, and, while the Administration boasts of its record on jobs, employment growth was weaker in the 2001-2007 period than in any previous post-World War II expansion.

No matter what they do are say a snake is still a snake and Bush is now depressed and soon he’ll need to be watched 24 hours a day. 46. osage says:

BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA

In order to gain the political power they’ve enjoyed over the last ten years, Republican moderates and Reagan conservatives made a pact with the devil (faux Christians and Limbaugh’s radical and pliable right wing misanthropes and bigots) to achieve the numbers they needed to defeat Democrats. It was a conscious political decision to manipulate and exploit ignorance and irrational fears in order to win elections rather than being intellectually and morally honest and lose them.

Today, those Republican moderates and Reagan conservatives are caught between wanting to disassociate themselves with and or casting out the devils they empowered, and the karmic reality that they don’t have the numbers to hold on to or regain power without accepting and even falsely “advocating” values that are dividing and destroying their party. The survival of today’s shrinking Republican Party has become so dependent on extremism, that they have no significant political power WITH or WITHOUT the support of America’s most dysfunctional lunatic fringe.

The idiom about choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea is certainly appropriate as Republicans are facing the dilemma of choosing between two equally undesirable alternatives that both result in Republican impotence in mainstream American politics. They are reaping the consequences of what they have sown. Deifying George W. Bush cost them their credibility. Sucking up to Rush Limbaugh is costing them their viability.

Under President Bush there were 1,950,000 jobs created over eight years or 243,750 per year.

So, there were 2,400,000 more jobs created per year under President Clinton than President Bush? That is OVER TWO MILLION MORE JOBS CREATED PER YEAR!!!

The official police incident report states: “[The unit] was requested to cover the road junction on the Auchterarder to Braco Road as the President of the USA, George Bush, was cycling through.” The report goes on: “[At] about 1800 hours the President approached the junction at speed on the bicycle. The road was damp at the time. As the President passed the junction at speed he raised his left arm from the handlebars to wave to the police officers present while shouting ‘thanks, you guys, for coming’.

“As he did this he lost control of the cycle, falling to the ground, causing both himself and his bicycle to strike [the officer] on the lower legs. [The officer] fell to the ground, striking his head. The President continued along the ground for approximately five metres, causing himself a number of abrasions. The officers… then assisted both injured parties.”

Please be aware this fact, Americans don’t like terrorists and terrorism…
… However, there is a fine line that the American Government MUST WALK and not cross.

If you are so willing to give up essential Liberties as interested to us by our Founders, then does that person truly appreciate the greatness to such Liberties?

In short, Bush threw the baby of Liberty out into the gutter when attempting to toss out the terrorists, NO?

Since when is usurping Constitutional Rights a good thing?
What kind of person rallies behind a form of government that sets out to undermine the American way of life?
Since when did TORTURE become something to defend?

Yep, us “liberals” are the problem… YES?

    During the Bush Administration…
    … I PROTESTED BUSH’S FAILURES!
    Did you cheer him on?

But of course, I happen to think protecting the American way of life as defined in the Constitution is a good thing. I’m sorry we disagree, really. For when you succeed at supplanting those deeply rooted values with ANYTHING LESS< America ceeses! Then, who’s the looser?

Again, as a Texan I apologize for the morons that we elect to badly govern our state. Governor Goodhair is a joke, our legislature is working on a non-existent problem, that of ILLEGAL voting so that everyone will have to have an id; all the while our idiot Attorney General spent millions of dollars investigating non-existent voter fraud. Members of the legislature have now introduced legislation to allow college students to carry weapons on campus. No, Mexico would not want us back.
I think Texans dreams of republicanism are coming to an end. Our urban areas are becoming more Democratic. The rural rednecks are now the problem.

I think that Texas should open up a cultural center for failed political leaders(Bush),has been actors(Chuck Norris) and aging zoned out rockers(Ted Nugent). Now there’s a trio Texas can be proud of.

Wait, did Bush not inheret a recession? The economy and GDP says yes, and after that, 9 11? Regardless of who you blame for 9 11 it had a real effect on the economy, yet his tax cuts did 100% lead to new jobs. Our economies plight today is based upon the Republicans supporting the ‘92 Fair Trade Housing Act, that made 2 Million Americans, who could not afford a home in the first place, credit to buy that home. It took us 16 yrs to realize a new GDP of $4 trillion more new dollars, that never existed. It was borne on bad loans forced on banks by our govt. It took us 16 yrs to catch this, so bad, “innovative” loans caused the stock market and housing values to soar. As soon as we caught up to the new GDP, we are where we are. Our wealth was a fraud and now we are readjusting. Pres Bush lied about a lot of things, and was one of the more misguided leaders we have had, but his economic policy did help Americans, and although he should have acted to stem the bank issue we are in, it was not 100% his fault, maybe 60%. He did protect us though.

Honestly, let’s legalize marijuana, regulate it, tax it, and balance our budget. Then we can protect all people who love each other, and leave “marriage” up to the Churches, as it is a Sanctimonous Process. Also must protect a womans right to choose, but not abuse that as birth control. Let’s assist people who do not have an education and want to better their place in society. Pay for their education and help them better themselves, not enable them for having 8 kids.

I am sick of the party politics and want to see someone out there who is Pro American and pro American Citizens, not Pro Democrat or Liberal. Any thoughts?
