Chamber of Commerce boasts about having ‘planted’ anti-union article in the Wall Street Journal.

Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal carried a front-page story warning that “[k]ey Senate Democrats are wavering in their support” of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), making it “more likely the bill, in its current form, will be stalled without the 60 votes needed.” Yesterday, Randy Johnson of the Chamber of Commerce — which has vowed to spend $10 million to defeat the bill — boasted that he had “planted” most of the story:

Johnson cautioned against over-confidence, saying that an article on the Wall Street Journal’s front page today about the doubts that six Democratic senators have about the bill may have been “a little optimistic” — “even though I planted a lot of that story.”

The Chamber has previously called EFCA a “firestorm bordering on Armageddon.”

The corporations have declared war on the American public and will do whatever is necessary to keep the American citizen hampered and controlled.

After all, as with vampires, we are their sole sustenance to be drained.

  2. Chuck Feney says:

Like getting the WSJ to be anti-labor would require much subterfuge…

Since when has the Wall Street Journal ever been known for it’s thorough vetting of a story?

    PEACE

Making it easier for working men and women to unionize is “Armageddon”?

If that opinion doesn’t crystalize – for all to see – the rightwing’s hatred towards working men and women, I’m not sure what will.

  5. larkohio says:

We wouldn’t want ordinary people to make a decent wage and benefits, now would we? I get so tired of this bs.

  6. shoeless says:

Why do we still have a Chamber of Commerce? It seems their only function is to ship American jobs overseas, and that mission has been accomplished.

Well, it is Armageddon. For the thugs in the anti-labor “consultant” industry, anyhow…

Lets see how funny it is after it passes.

Sixty is the Senate’s magic number, the tally needed to end a filibuster by invoking cloture and moving to a final vote. Senators who oppose a bill generally vote against cloture, effectively killing the bill. But Democrats and their labor allies hope to wipe that calculus off the board and persuade some opponents of the bill to vote for cloture even if they vote against the final bill. If 60 vote for cloture, only 50 are needed for final passage (Vice President Joe Biden can break a tie.)

Aided by conservative publications like the WSJ, the corporate bigwigs are determined to eliminate the middle class.
When will there be a mea cuplpa from WSJ? Not in this lifetime.

The WSJ has always been the wealthy conservative’s newspaper, but of late, it is no different from the Washington Times or the NY Post now – it is a rightwing rag, using its former, more dignified (yet totally biased) reputation to smear the left, promote anti-union (read, anti-worker) and advocate big business.

The plan should be to force them into revealing themselves and their agenda in a more obvious way time after time–one that cannot be spun like it has been so often in the past.

  14. fletc3her says:

That’s pretty embarrassing for the WSJ. They go to all the trouble to quote unnamed industry sources and then the sources go and out themselves. Whoops.

So this is the ‘left wing bias’ we keep hearing about?

  16. Xisithrus says:

Its clear that they dont think government is for, by and of the people

  17. konchster says:

Nothing like being a deceptive piece of slim and proud of it. The anti-union forces apparently assume that we are unable or unwilling to read what’s going on The bill just doesn’t ban secret meetings. Our girl Rachel did a great piece explaining the bill and the need for it

We are in an all out class war. The elite plutocracy against the rest of us, ‘we the people’…

  19. christopher wiwi says:

This is why we need a national discussion on this bill, the Reich who in thinking it takes away the secret ballot, which is does not, seems to be for the speaking up for the labor ,but they are not for labor, it just seems like they are. What most of these people won`t say is America ranks 17th out of 20 with our top 20 trading partners when it comes to unionization of it`s work force, although we are number 2 in productivity, so actually we are worker smarter and better but with lower wages.Another thing they won`t talk about is that health care, supervisory and managerial salaries are what is hurting our country`s competativeness around the globe. We also rank near the bottom in in hourly pay and bene`s compared to with the same top 20 trading partners. This is all aues to keep this class warfare going. These are sad little people that are just plain GREEDY and POWER HUNGRY!

  20. Joe the Philosopher says:

Can we start calling these people what they are?- The Horror Chamber of Commerce?

  21. Marie says:

I agree that the media has done a lousy job of explaining EFCA to the American people. Rachel Maddow did a good job last night, but msm doesn’t.

Could it possibly be because the msm are influenced by their big business owners?
Could it be because from their ivory towers they can only see into the neighboring penthouse?

Big Business wouldn’t be big business without labor – and given its preference, BB would not treat workers fairly, from pay to benefits, were it not for unions, who established certain rights for workers.

  22. christopher wiwi says:

Since when has the party of NO, been a defender of labor and muchless democracy, can we say wiretapping, an illegal War in Iraq and a host of other inconsistencies by the REICH WING AMERICAN TALIBAN.No wonder Rush is their the de-facto leader.

As usual, the only way Righty can prevail is to cheat.

  24. tombaker says:

Aided by conservative publications like the WSJ, the corporate bigwigs are determined to eliminate the middle class.

It’s already eliminated. The only people left who appear “middle class” are salary slaves, who work 80 hrs. a week, travel 25 days/month and jump as high as the boss shouts, every time, or else. They’ve got some nice cars and some McMansions, but they’re no more free than their golden retrievers are.

  25. NOLIESPLEASE says:

WOW….I just completed the quiz and scored 351 which makes me an extreme progressive….it figures…I’m Canadian…lol.

Yes we are extremely progressive up here but then again…we have Single payer health system, subsidised education (University), no banking problems, no mortgage problems, we have GOOD UNIONS, we make on average higher saleries….so I guess being real progressive isn’t so bad after all….

But I doubt YOUR NEWS MEDIA would ever tell you that we have it a lot better living in Canada then living in the US!!!! YES we have a strong unions up here!!!! Are we competative??? YES…THATS WHY WERE PART OF THE G7 AND G20 !!!

Those progressives don’t know squat …..REALLY…CHECH OUT THE FORCLOSURE (power of sales in Canada)rate in Canada!!!

I hate to tell my friends down south….In actuality ….WE HAVE MORE FREEDOM BECUASE WE ARE NOT SLAVES TO CORPORATIONS!!!!

EFCA is what is needed to retool the middle class!!! This is the fight….win this fight American workers and you will see your lives improve. Don’t believe me…check the Canadian stats for proof.

STUPID MSM…COME TO CANADA AND TELL US SOCIALISM IS NO GOOD OR THAT UNIONS DESTROY A NATION!!!!!

I dare you…you lying pieces of crap!!!

  26. millie lencioni says:

How very arrogant! Hopefully this will come back to haunt you. I think you underestimate the power of the middle class and the power of the unions. Even people that don’t belong to a union had parents or relatives that did, so you are insulting many, many Americans. People are only trying to survive with a living wage in a struggling economy. Can any of you greedy politicians or business owners even relate to that?
