Poll: Voters view Rush Limbaugh negatively by a two-to-one ratio.

In a new survey conducted by Democracy Corps and Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, 53 percent of voters said they had a negative opinion of hate radio talker Rush Limbaugh, compared to just 26 percent who view him positively. In all, nearly half the country, 45 percent, view him “very, very negatively.” In their analysis, the pollsters note that “Limbaugh’s rating has deteriorated among moderate Republicans since November’s election, with his unfavorability rising from 37 to 46 percent.”

Update A McClatchy-Ipsos poll coming out today finds that "about one of three Americans has a favorable opinion of radio talker Rush Limbaugh, while nearly half have an unfavorable opinion."

But the MSM says that Rush has 20 million listeners a day! It’s been that way for the last 20 years! Everybody loves Rush!

I doubt that Rush ever had 20 million listeners. This isn’t the 1990’s when Rush and his admirers in the MSM can just spew out any number they want to. They have to back it up now, and with Rush, they can’t do that.

I live in a state that sent Jesse Helms to the U.S. Senate five times.

Why would people elect a guy who was a bona fide reactionary, a guy who gleefully obstructed anything remotely progressive (to the point where he was called “Senator No”), and unabashedly vocalized opinions so politically incorrect that people were left slackjawed?

Believe it or not, a significant slice of the people who voted for him did so for somewhat rebellious reasons — they knew he p!ssed off the rest of the country, and this appealed to them for some reason.

I’m wondering if this effect applies to some of Limbaugh’s fans as well.

  70. Jeremy in Denver says:

Watchdog is simultaneously engaging in two pasttimes that Republican trolls engage on places like this: 1) The old one of trying to pass off selfishness as moral, and 2) Creating their own issues to attack and break down.

From abortion to taxes, the Republican trolls, both the kinds that get paid 10c a post to post their $#!+ on blogs like this one and the elected kinds from places where Limbaugh’s audience is strongest, not to mention the Head Troll Leader of the GOP, Limbaugh himself, the MO is the same. Take something they disagree with about the Democrat’s position, construct a faux argument against something 100 times worse, then begin howling and screaming about it, throwing out lies, half-truths, mis-directions, inuendo, and even more outright lies. Lying in debate is never a good thing (you tend to get hammered during fact checking), but the real essence of this strategy is a common logical fallacy. The idea is to create an argument so absurd and assinine that the audience recoils from its mere mention by exaggerating the opponents position, taking the position beyond the scope it actually occupies, or, the worst of all, outright lying about the goals of the opposition. Then you begin tearing down this fake argument, this straw man of an argument, which is much easier to tear down and, at least in your mind, has a much better chance of swaying the audience.

There are four ways of dealing with such an argument. Which one or ones chosen depends on the nature of the original argument and the nature of the straw man that was constructed by the debater in error. One is to attack the basis of the Straw Man and use it to reaffirm the original debater’s point. Such as: “Why would Liberals argue for reeducation camps for Conservatives and the total block of all Conservative outlets? Isn’t Limbaugh doing a good enough job at marginalizing the Conservative viewpoint all by himself?” Another is to restate the original point: “Limbaugh is suffering a 2 to 1 dis favorable to favorable reaction in this poll we just cited.” A third could be to question the straw man itself. “Which liberals are calling for reeducation camps and stifling all Conservative viewpoints?” The final one, which I favor, is calling the Straw Man argument out itself.

But we know why watchdog is here. Obvious Troll is Obvious.

I would also like to know how they calculate how many people listen to him. How would whomever doing the counting know how many people are sitting in their cars listening to Limbaugh or sitting in their house listening to him? I’m thinking they come up with these numbers by knowing an average listening audience for a particular radio market and then figure that all those people are listening to the show because it’s available on the station. They have absolutely no way to know how many people are really listening.

This bring so mind how Limbaugh and other conservative radio talkers love to say how much more popular they are than Air America Radio. Well, they could hardly not be when they are in 20 times the number of markets than Air America is in. When it’s a level playing field and these conservatives go head to head with Air America, then you can decide who is the most popular. Randi Rhodes frequently beat Limbaugh on their own home turf.

Perhaps you can find some posters on a message board who are liberal who say such things you will NEVER find lefties in the MEDIA saying such things. NEVER. Our equivalent of Coulter, Rush and the Weinerdog do not exist. THAT is the difference. Saying OUR pundits do the same thing would be an out and out LIE. Nice spewage of an age old Limborg talking point that hatespeech is someone that disagrees with a liberal. Dont you get embarassed being so brainwashed? It should humiliate you to let Rush do your thinking for you.
