unbelievable Says:

upright left Says: Of course you would guess that, but you’d be wrong. PRWORA ended the cycle of lifetime welfare. That was the goal of most conservatives who complained about welfare. Some people believe it’s inhumane to keep people perpetually dependent. ;)

Actually, you’re wrong. Again. Under Bill Clinton, due to how great things were for everyone, welfare went from 13 million recipients down to 5 million. Under Bush - the numbers went back up.

Conservative policy is the problem, not welfare.

Yeah, the Clinton presidency with Repub congress were some good years, including PRWORA. PRWORA reduced the chances for people to abuse welfare and make it a way of life for generation after generation. That was the conservative objection to welfare, not those who used it as temporary assistance as it was intended. That's why it's no longer as much of an issue. But, of course, your response was just a dodge as usual, wasn't it? ;)

From the Wonk Room and a RAND study on health care pay for performance:

A separate study on pay-for-performance schemes in the Annals of Family Medicine, found that doctors resented the intrusion of such plans on the doctor-patient relationship.

Ruth McDonald and Martin Roland of the University of Manchester in England conducted in-depth interviews with doctors in Britain and California, where pay-for-performance programs are being implemented.

In Britain, physicians said the emphasis on computer systems and data collection crowded out communication with patients. In the United States, physicians said they resented the structure of the audit and payment systems, which sometimes distorted the process of care.

From Gallup:
Americans' job approval rating of Congress is up an additional 8 points this month, after a 12-point increase last month, and now stands at 39% -- the most positive assessment of Congress since February 2005.

Heads up to all of the Democrats who want to block the Obama agenda. Obstructionism and the failure to address serious issues is what makes people hate Congress.
The American people want change, not the same old tired games on Capitol Hill. We expect that from the Republicans. Don't let the Blue Dogs and conservatives in the Democratic Party be the roadblock to change.

I don't really care that Bush is making a speech; I don't really care what he says.

What I really want to know is this: How big of a markdown in price did Bush give the MBA? Or, perhaps...did HE pay THEM to allow him to give a speech?

We stillhave a drug czar after 30 years of losing the war on drugs? Can't we just decriminalize it and move on? Sure save a lot of law enforcement lives, not to mention billions of dollars. We could just hang a Mission Accomplished banner in the office. I bet we could find on cheap on the internet.

No wonder we're in sure dire economic straights! Phil Graham pushed Das Capital Uber Alles deregulation, because Capitalists are good Christians and would only do right by their neighbors, and their neighbors wife. Greenspan would fail econ 101 and Charley Rangel can't figure out how to do his taxes. That the "best and the brightest" avoid working for the government sure is evident with these puds as an example.

Pelosi needs to keep her mouth shut about another 'stimulus package'.

First let's see the results of 'banks bailouts' of Bush, and the big money which is yet to be spent of Obama's huge first stimulus.

We cannot run our overnment on 'stimulus' spending.
Either we cut expenses...or increase revenues.

But Congress members of both parties are not feeling the crunch, they are getting in fact an automatic pay raise every year.
Pelosi has been a miserable Speaker, from start.

Florida needs to outlaw bestiality? With Jeb Bush as Gov?

But getting serious. Let me guess that if a man has sex with a beast, he goes to jail, but if he has sex with a prostitute she goes to jail. Yep, I was right, it must be Florida, I can't see how my logic is screwed....
