Rep. Bachmann Claims To Have Taken No-Pork Pledge, But Actually Requested $3 Million In Earmarks In 2008

On Fox Business yesterday, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) joined the long parade of members of Congress who rail against earmarks while requesting their own. But Bachmann took her hypocrisy a step further, claiming that she has signed an anti-pork pledge:

CLAMAN: How about a no-pork bill? Will that ever be a reality?

BACHMANN: I think it is possible. I took a pledge in my own district. I have not taken earmarks in the last three years that I have been in Congress because the system is so corrupt. It’s possible to make that pledge.

Watch it:

In fact, according to Legistorm, Bachmann has requested 7 earmarks in Fiscal Year 2008 costing tax payers a total of $3,767,600. Some examples:

- $94,000 for Sheriffs Youth Program of MN
- $335,000 for Equipment Acquisition for Northland Medical Center
- $803,000 for Replacement Small Buses, St. Cloud Metro Bus

As MSNBC’s David Shuster noted, Bachmann indeed signed the Club for Growth’s ‘No Earmark’ pledge back in 2008. While she clearly broke this pledge, Bachmann’s name is curiously absent from the list of lawmakers making the same pledge for 2009.

A sexist comment here…how can a woman who is as physically attractive as this make so many men want to hurl because of her stupidity?

  10. pete says:

She’s not lying, in her mind.

You see, God and the Easter bunny invited her to a luau and, during the power point presentation, they explained that her projects aren’t really earmarks. They’re directives from the Almighty.

BTW, she may be the most insane member of Congress. And that says a LOT!

  11. Hoodathunk says:

And even worse, why does she have no clue?

  12. avchavis says:

The difference being that people (non-trolls) here on TP will bring the hammer down on lying and spineless democrats, instead of circling the wagons and defending the indefensible.

I think hatred of Reid, Pelosi, and Lieberman is pretty well established here, for example.

I’m really surprised you’re still here Simpleton. I thought our thorough thrashing of you last night on the Steele / Pro-choice thread would have driven you to rage so hard that you would have gotten your dumb wingnut theocrat wannabe rear-end banned by now. I’m impressed, really.

    - $335,000 for Equipment Acquisition for Northland Medical Center
    - $803,000 for Replacement Small Buses, St. Cloud Metro Bus

While it was certainly stupid of her to lie about not accepting earmarks, on the face of it, these do not sound like programs I might oppose if I were in Congress. But it’s not as though she herself would have the final word on whether or not her district got those funds. So saying she wouldn’t take them is not entirely honest.

  26. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    Like democrats never lie.

Once again, we have a troll who misses the point. It’s not about whether other Democratic members of Congress have ever lied, it’s about this particular Republican member of Congress, and she did lie. Lying about your record in Congress, no matter who does it, is wrong. To say that the other side does it too is not an excuse for doing it yourself. Did this troll grow up in a cave, or did he grow up in a loving household with parents who taught him right from wrong?

I live just a couple miles outside her district so, I’ll try to condense it for you.

She “represents” an oddly drawn district that includes “old money” suburbs and farm communities. The old money is greedy and the rural people are good hearted but not very sophisticated.

She received massive support from the RNC (until she went all McCarthy on Mathews) and has the unflinching support of the loudest, most radical, evangelicals in the state. Plus, inexplicably, the local press doesn’t see fit to report on her insanity (which I suspect is due to a fear of losing access).

I think that most of those who vote for her have never seen any bad press and don’t look past her “pro-life and Jesus” credentials. And that’s the sad, for the country, story of Crazy Shelly.

  55. alpuz3 says:

    Archie B Says:

yes! that’s how… She’s a good woman, who spends her free time stalking teh great gay menace.

And again, don’t misunderstand. I am not here bashing people who are homosexuals, who are lesbians, who are bisexual, who are transgendered. We need to have profound compassion for the people who are dealing with the very real issue of sexual dysfunction in their life, and sexual identity disorders. This is a very real issue. It’s not funny, it’s sad.

Take a good long look into these eyes, Archie…

Are they crazy like your mirror?

  56. katy says:

Apparently the stupid troll wouldn’t know a “good woman” if she bit his nose off.

Of course, he probably never heard about the time Crazy Shelly got caught, literally, hiding in the bushes to spy on a gay rights event. Then there’s the time she ran, screaming “KIDNAPPING”, when a known librul happened to follow her into a restroom.

No. She’s not a “good woman”. She’s a dangerous freak who needs psychiatric care. Which is doubly ironic because her Dear Hubby is a self proclaimed psychologist. Though I can’t imagine anyone seeking the care of a “doctor” who went to Regent University.

As nearly as I can tell he specializes in “curing the gay”. My guess is that if either one of them wandered into a real psychiatric facility they would not be allowed to leave until they completed a course of treatment.

  60. Tallygirl says:

I still don’t understand the Republican concept of “good”. It seems to be centered around the self-professed “Christians” like George W. Bush or Sarah Palin or any other fundamentalist nut job who do neither a “good” job or a moral one.

We need to have profound compassion for the people who are dealing with the very real issue of sexual dysfunction in their life, and sexual identity disorders. This is a very real issue. It’s not funny, it’s sad.

Actually, that’s nothing new. From the time of court jesters, comedians can get away with speaking truth to power when others can’t.

The fact is that Stewart has nothing to lose. His show doesn’t depend on hostile parties showing up. In fact, they are the losers if they show any fear. The august members of the MSM, on the other hand, could find themselves in a bread line after one phone call.

In other words, citing dems to distract from Bachmann’s antics doesn’t make her or you look any smarter or morally superior; even morally equivalent…..just makes you look desperate as hell.

If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend “Manufacturing Consent.”

NPR listeners were second, getting all three questions right 44 percent of the time, followed by “Hardball” and “Hannity” viewers, at 43 percent and 42 percent, respectively.

    Also this: (that’s why I posted ‘next…’)

SURVEY: Daily Show/Colbert Viewers Most Knowledgable, Fox News Viewers Rank Lowest

A new study by the Pew Research Study shows that viewers of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report have the highest knowledge of national and international affairs, while Fox News viewers rank nearly dead last:

I don’t know that any conclusive scientific study could be conducted to produce a conclusive answer. Studies and polls are as close as anyone can get, short of observation of the choices conservatives and ‘liberals’ make and the density of the information offered.

If conservative programs are rife with inaccuracies, it stands to reason that the audience will be less informed than the opposition market.

Listening to both markets, it’s no contest to document the number of objectively assessed errors in conservative ‘news’ programs. It’s why O’Reillt will never have Media Matters on his show: Media Matters documents O’Reilly’s own lies.

Has anyone seen a single link for any of the claims this troll has made on this thread?

Sorry, Jane, but I missed the reference to “this thread.” To my knowledge, the little moron doesn’t post useful links on any thread.

    Hi Jane!

  107. Jane E. Schneider says:

Gummitch, I wanted to be specific in case he, since I couldn’t swear that he,or his alter egos, had never managed to provide a link on any thread.

Off to bed now, goodnight! (and it’s been a good day for the Zoo, hasn’t it?) ;)

  108. hanshiro says:

Add to the fact that, to my knowledge, not a single ‘troll’ has presented nor defended a single position with anything substantive; objective or otherwise.

Also, TP is by far less known for their banning practices than many a red state site. Substance does not get one banned, from what I’ve seen, but that does not hold true for opposition sites on red state blogs.

  109. Jane E. Schneider says:

Oops, poor editing, my bad. You know what I meant…

  110. dbadass says:

Jane, I was just going to start some shrimp scampi. Can’t you stay awake just a little longer?

  111. Jane E. Schneider says:

Hi, dbadass, I said goodnight to you already on the Beck thread. Starting to feel like the Waltons around here. ;)

    Okay, goodnight all.

  112. Jane E. Schneider says:

Can you stop by the office with it? It’s not far! (sigh) Thanks anyway, I really have to go to bed.

  113. dbadass says:

    Goodnight Jane.
I have to get this food put away and to bed myself as employment number one starts in a few hours and I have to do both again tomorrow. I’ll save you some of the scampi.
best to the other half as well

    159. republicans hate facts Says: I did find the Pew study to be too simplistic and fewer in the number of questions than I would have preferred for a more in depth analysis. But they were clear on the study and it’s methodology so it still holds some serious merit.

I agree with you, though, and prefer to have a more objective and clarified result. There are also studies by PEW that state nearly opposite results. Archie, like all trolls, demands others do the legwork on a dare, then denies the results or refuses to acknowledge a point; just moves on to make posters react and react, never reacting himself as republicans view reaction as weakness.

Their perceived ‘advantage’ is always to act and attack. Never react. It’s what lost them the elections.

    __________

Why do you hate capitalism, Archie?

Do you not realize that artists are, in fact, small businesses working in a trade that’s quite negatively impacted by an economic downturn?

Probably not, since you and all other conservatives have utter contempt for people who make anything other than derivatives and dividends.

Stopped in this morning to read last nights thread, and see there was a great Troll beating. The remains of the former troll known as Archie B were found in pieces all over the room. Its not known if it will ever be able to be put back together again. May it rest in peace.
